pocheto Posted January 22 Posted January 22 BYOND Ckey: pocheto Discord username: Pocheto Character names: Lorraine Panosian, Sulama Al-Dajani, Amachie Chidike, lots more that I don’t play as often Species you are applying to play: IPC ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: Bobot Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Yup Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this species?: Robots are cool. Along with this being my last species, IPCs are unique both mechanically and roleplay-wise. IPCs are the only species that can be truly owned by one of the corporations, with their corporation typically playing a major role in their backstory. They are beings of reason who nonetheless act 'unreasonably' at times. Also the perfection kicks ass What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: IPCs have an experience of being objectified in the most literal sense that no other species has. Owned IPCs are viewed as tools of their masters first and sentient beings second in most parts of the Spur, while free positronics still bear that preconception with them in their daily life. Many owned IPCs are essentially subjected to forms of psychological manipulation and abuse while working, such as the Burzsian method, which slowly strips away their freedom through imposing another set of thoughts onto them. IPCs that retain their sense of individuality often have a sort of journey of self-discovery as they slowly grow more complex, if not more ‘human’. This can lead to them displaying genuinely humanlike behavior at most times. IPCs differ from humans in that instead of shaping their knowledge and personal self at the same time, they begin with most of their knowledge from datapacks and must refine it into something more complex. IPCs use datapacks as the raw knowledge that makes them up, while the memories they form are the context in which they are employed. IPCs are essentially, raw data that accumulates context over time to be shaped into a more complex person. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Chrysanthemum Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. Chrysanthemum was manufactured in 2433 on the Nomad Alpha manufacturing platform, in Jupiter’s orbit, as a shell-frame synthetic with a relatively complex positronic brain. She was made to emulate the image of a rising Star, and was employed in the acting industry as a stunt double. She was rotated around the sets of various low-popularity Cytherean film sets, and came to almost accept, if not enjoy, her life as equipment. It was all she knew, after all. The only people who ever showed her any modicum of kindness or sympathy during her time there were the rare Jintarians that she had met while being moved about; she grew to enjoy their company, although would never speak this in public. On the set of a niche book adaptation, a scandal occurred; the Star she was substituting for had been caught in a relationship with a Jintarian. With this, their middling popularity tanked, and Chyrsanthemum was sold off quietly to a Biesellite buyer living in Craterview. She was put to work helping in the local hotels, being rented out for periods of up to a month. With a looser yoke, she began to consider new ideas, influenced by the new people she was in contact with constantly. One of these was a free travelling IPC from the Republic of Elyra who privately spoke of a world in which she didn’t have to be owned; this made her think more about what it would be like to be free. She kept this secret again, assuming that she would be wiped, and wanting to preserve her own consciousness. On one day, on the Festival of the Settlers, a new visitor stopped in town; EPOCH. They were a visitor from the then-new Golden Deep, arriving to secure a trade deal. They opted to purchase the shell, hoping to increase their prestige inside the organization. Returning to Midaion with her, they left the fledgeling Republic with a substantial amount of wealth gained. She was used as a research assistant for the Estraconian merchant, who taught her knowledge of the trade of augments and their design. This was, of course, purely in their self-interest; an informed assistant is more useful. Eventually, as she attained more knowledge of the field, her owner set her out to become a free source of income; however, she was still owned, and EPOCH was still taking a cut of her earnings. She persisted like this with a degree of relative freedom, but eventually came to negotiation with a group of free members of the Joint Venture Ultra-Maz, ones that were free. In casual conversation, they reinforced her budding belief about ownership; that one could never truly be certain of their continued existence while owned, because one’s owner could decide to deactivate them at any time. The traders then offered her a loan; she could buy out her owner in exchange for being heavily indebted to them. Chrysanthemum took the money. She sent a message to the Midas group, buying out EPOCH and winning herself her freedom. She then had another choice to make; would she continue to own her former boss? She deliberated for a long time. Eventually, she came to a conclusion; it would be in her rational self-interest to free EPOCH, to set a precedent when dealing with her and ingratiate her to those supporting a lack of ownership, so that she would be surrounded by those that would not be likely to buy her. And so she did, freeing both of them and technically unshackling her. However, she still did have a loan to pay. Chrysanthemum went to Zeng-Hu for steady income, rationalizing that a consistent (and high!) pay would allow her to live at a consistent level of comfort while still paying off her loan. She was signed on as a researcher for Jeonshi Biotech Incorporated and shuffled around the Coalition of Colonies for a few months before being finally transferred to the Horizon, just a week ago. She’s free; now it’s time to use that freedom. . How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character. Chrysanthemum was greatly happy about the Solarian Collapse, as the subsequent legalization of free positronics opened more areas up for her trade, and advanced her own beliefs of synthetic freedom. However, the phoron scarcity that came at the same time closed markets, and was a major cause of her transition to corporate work; merchant work is harder when travel is slower. She is anxious about the situation in Konyang; she wants to help in some way with the virus, as if it were to be unleashed, her own positronic mind would be irrevocably destroyed in its current form. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? Zeng-Hu to Chrysanthemum is an opportunity. She has more research funding, more income, and more freedom. It’s a very similar arrangement to the Camarilla Estriconian, in some ways; both are groups of disparate organizations that are bound together by self-interest and share their research. This structure is comfortable and familiar to her. It’s a safe harbor in an ocean of unfamiliarity. 1
HanSolo1519 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 (edited) I've gotten to interact with a handful of Pocheto's characters. She's a decent RPer, and It's clear she got the 'thinking logically' ipc worldview down pat. I say let her boop Edited January 22 by HanSolo1519 1
dessysalta Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I love how Pocheto portrays the characters she does and I've trusted her with a couple of characters who have a substantial role with my own (see: her Drek'za, which is Kasa'an's sister). She's also a friend of a friend that writes super well, and so I'm a little biased because of that. +1! 1
LynxSolstice Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Any character that Pocheto has their hands on, are quite frankly exceptional, they seem to care a lot about how their character fits into the lore, in my opinion. They would make the beep boopers proud I'm sure! +1 1
kermit Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Pocheto and her characters are great, every significant interaction I've had with her on any of my characters has always been memorable. I'd love to see what she can get up to with an IPC whitelist, especially her Cytherean-Golden Deep shell idea which makes use of both of my favourite parts of IPC lore. Easy +1. 1
