Itelinee
BYOND Ckey: Itelinee Discord username: itelinee (I have not joined any aurora related discord servers) Character names: Barbarella Escobar (very old), Katarzyna Bukowska Species you are applying to play: Unathi ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: I am partial to middling green or hot red scales. Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this species?: Besides aesthetics, I think the lore poses some interesting questions and I would like to explore them in gameplay. Also I want to thump my tail on things. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: Firstly and most obviously, Unathi nonverbal communication greatly differs from our primate ways, so they have a license to be rather menacing in the way they emote. There is also the accent, of course. Secondly, the Unathi hold deeply entrenched spiritual beliefs, particularly tying into ancestor/spirit worship. Thirdly, many traditionalist Unathi are both clan-oriented and used to a strength-based hierarchy, which they may colour their experiences of modern human society. There is also Unathi gender identity, which is highly unconventional for humans. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Izekissha Huix'tha Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. Izekissha was hatched in 2 438 on the shores of the Riztizkzi Sea on the planet Ouerea to a community of largely fisher(men) during the advent of the Contact War on Moghes, and thus also of Skrell oversight and the planet's nascent republic. Thanks to the conditions of their upbringing, pro-democratic sentiment was deeply engrained in yet-young Izekissha. The following years of relative peace spent in menial labour and nursing. When the Izweski came back, they learned that in the face of pain, they are a coward. In the following months, they gained a position as a secretary in a Hephaesteus-owned wet shipyard where remained for a year, until leaving due to ambition and escalating tensions between Hephaestus and the workforce. Due to poor pay, they had little savings, and wanting for an education and yet loathing to become a burden on clan or family, they signed on with the still young Izweski Navy, gaining education and the training required to operate the life support aboard the Navy's Hephaeustus-produced auxiliary vessel. However, while life in the navy helped Izekissha keep their cool under pressure, it has also placed their direct and daily service of Izweski nobles. Neither could they develop comraderie with the Moghes Sinta, who did not subscribe to the much more permissive sect of the Ouerean Sk'ahk Church. In the early days of 2 565, upon the fulfilling of their contract with the Hegemony navy Izekissha looked coreward, to human space, in order to escape the raging famines. Being one of Ouerea, Izekissha was guaranteed Izweski Citizenship, and thus had little trouble obtaining a work vise and participating in external recruitment drives put out by Zavodskoi Interstellar, bouncing around between posts aboard civilian vessels until finally ending up aboard the state of the art ship SCCV Horizon. Living in human space, even to a Sinta familiar with alien conventions of gender, power, and relations with one another, is both a shock and a dream. After all: it finally provides a first-hand opportunity to witness the things of which the human colonists and coworkers in Tr'ha'rem told stories firsthand. Still, despite the familiarity with the language and the custom, actually existing within alien systems required confronting certain beliefs and either reinforcing or adapting them. In the case of Izekissha, their familiarity with meritocratic and democratic beliefs created little friction, but their identity as a Fisher and a follower of the Great Spirit remained. How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character. The navy's anti-piracy actions directed the enlisted Izekissha, who found themself aboard a supply ship. Although not directly in the line of fire, the stress of being involved in an ongoing conflict and the training associated with it has tempered some of Izekissha's stronger-than-usual self preservation instincts. The escalation of the Phoron scarcity crisis caught Izekissha at a bad time. The freshly emigrating Unathi found themself short of money and employment, as many of the ships they stepped foot on would end up ceasing operations due to the sharply rising costs. The opportunity to work abroad a ship such as the SCCV Horizon was, thus, a great opportunity for them. Although not directly impacted, the Haphestus takeover of the guilds back in their motherland is an outrageous event, and has stoked their dislike for the megacorporation to the point of mild mistrust for its employees. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? Were it not for the vulnerable position of an immigrant from a nation such as the Hegemony, Izekissha maybe would express their dissatisfaction with the methods of worker suppression. However, being less than brave and not wanting to compromise any of their newly found quality of life (unstable as it may be), they are happy to uphold the status quo. After all, it could be worse. They could be Hephaestus. Link to comment
Captain Gecko
Hey there! Three questions so far: 1) What would be Izekissha's opinion of Unathi from non-Hegemonic backgrounds, if they have any? Pirates (of individual fleets if they differ on the fleet/allegiances), Foreigners (Mictlan, Biesel, etc.), Dominians... 2) How did Izekissha react/what is their opinion of the Hegemony's current practice of hiring cooperative pirate crews and fleets to assist in dealing with the pirate threat, notably with the arrival of Iska's Adventurers? 3) Is Izekissha a guy or a girl, sex-wise? I get that they're a fisherman as far as gender goes, I'm just curious about the physical side. It's not really an important question, I'm just curious! Link to comment
Aticius
I will freely admit that I am far from unbiased when I give my little +1 to this whitelist application, as I have known Itelinee for a *long* time. While i'm quite happy to see her apply, I think it's important that it not be accepted lightly; even if I know she's got the RP chops and the interest for it. To keep up with the battery of questions, though, I will add my own. Given that Izekissha is an Ouerean, they have a more prominent and underlined opinion of both the Hegemony and Nobility, specifically. How has Ouerea's history impacted their view on both Nobility and the Hegemonic caste system as a whole? Link to comment
Itelinee
Hey there. Thanks for the prompt response. 1) I think that they would be neutral, if not outright sympathetic: particularly towards first generation immigrants with whom they have the most in common. It might be a different matter with Dominion Unathi, due to their history as pirates. However, not having any experience coming up against them, I would probably say that their mistrust can be negotiated down with time or a show of goodwill. (it feels so weird to give such a neutral response in an application, no?) 2) I think I ended up giving a bit of an answer to this already, but to expand on it: I think that Izekissha would be disapproving, but would also be entirely unsurprised. After all, they believe it is just like the Hegemony to employ unpredictable, bloodthirsty goons in its ranks, due to Izweski previously employing soldiers during the Months of Blood and also their later use of K'lax soldiers. 3) They will be female, set either to female or neuter pronouns on the sheet, but most likely any pronouns will be fine. How has Ouerea's history impacted their view on both Nobility and the Hegemonic caste system as a whole? Yes, being a hatched and raised Ouerean does greatly paint Izekissha's view of the Hegemonic ruling class. Firstly: the first contact they had with nobility was the dismantling of the Ouerean citizen-led government and the confrontations that followed. Secondly, their time spent onboard Hegemony ships would further reinforce their dislike, given the great stratification and general mistrust onboard them. In foreign territory, this might lead to Izekissha snubbing any obvious nobility in the unlikely circumstance that they would find themselves on equal rank. Their source of restraint in this case would be born largely out of fear of deportation, should the noble pull some strings. Link to comment
