UltraNumeron Posted July 11 Posted July 11 (edited) BYOND Ckey: UltraNumeron Discord username: UltraBigRat Character names: Jonathan Baum, HEVEX MK2-226, Osiris EXP-86, Homer Obasi and Osbert Heron Species you are applying to play: Skrell ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: Light Blue Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: I have read most of the major ones, and plan to keep reading Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this species?: Ever since i first joined the server they were the species that captivated me the most, and now that ive begun to see more of them being played, and started reading their lore ive become quite fascinated with them. As they seem to me as a very good mix of an interesting, exotic alien species with strange traits that don't seem too gimmicky, a rich but not overwhelming history and a unique system of government, while still being relatable enough to me that i feel i can play them confidently. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: I'd say the biggest difference in skrell come from their society and lifecycle, being very long-lived comparatively to humans and having higher standards they're expected to meet, along with having had more time to develop as a species with advanced technology, in which they have formed both a far more advanced civilization, and a stricter regime then other species. Which is further exemplified by their mass use of psionics to make a more homogenous worldview among their population. They do also of course have some biological features that make them different to play aswell, such as them being genderless, and expressing their emotions with headtail positions and gestures rather then facial expressions. Along with some other little details such as their different sense of humor or tidal cycles affecting their emotional state. Aswell as some more social things such as their complex approach to relationships and peaceful attitude. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Xian'Qul Janqii Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. (2 paragraphs minimum) Xian'Qul was a skrell with Xiaalt ancestry who was born on Qerr'Malic, successfully going through scuttle schooling, and being given a pretty average upbringing by their Qrii'Myaq and family, during which they developed an interest in the few other strange species on the moon, such as the Vaurca, Dionae and Humans. With their Quya having noticed this interest and during the coming-of-age ceremony gifted them a chip from a Vaurca's exoskeleton which they burnt before starting Reefgarden. During which they socialized and developed a curious and inquisitive personality, eventually moving up into a Depth College, and attaining two degrees, one in philosophy, and one in foreign cultures. Being out of college now and having a decent social credit score of 5.56, from living a pretty standard skrellian life, albeit one without too prestigious of a focus. And with this finding work in a relatively independent journalistic organization, focusing on interviewing other species and learning about their cultures and lives, eventually taking an opportunity to work as an independent journalist on the Horizon to interview the diverse crew there, and report on the various locations the ship goes to. How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character. (1 paragraph minimum) While of course the economic effects of these events were felt, to them they presented interesting journalistic opportunities and did not raise too much worry to them personally back when they lived in the Nralakk Federation, outside of casting doubt on human governments and making the periphery of the Federation seem dangerous, such as with the marauder attacks there. But overall managing to get through most of these events with a slightly higher workload, and a slightly less prosperous economy. Though now that they have begun to work on the Horizon and have gotten closer to the various events going on in the Orion Spur, they have begun to worry more about these threats. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? (1 paragraph minimum) Working independently as a freelance journalist they don't have too strong of an opinion on the megacorporations, believing them mostly to be an effective method for consolidating power and labor outside the Federation. However they do appreciate Zeng-Hu's attempts at forming positive relations with the Federation. Overall they are quite hopeful that the Nrallak Federation and the megacorporations will form good symbiotic relationships, and bolster each others economies. Edited July 15 by WhatsUpBrotendo
WhatsUpBrotendo Posted July 13 Posted July 13 Hi, thanks for applying. I have some questions about your character's background: What Federation political ideology does Qul follow? As a follow-up, which party do they support? How does Qul feel about the Federation as a whole? How does Qul feel about Skrell who were born outside of the Federation? Is Qul a Listener or a Receiver?

Qul supports the ideology of symbiosis, and the United Federation party. As it overall best fits their views on foreign relations. 2. They believe it to be a very efficient form of government, and one that for the most part is effective at upholding skrellian values, encouraging peoples growth and keeping the population highly educated. Overall they believe most social and economic problems can be solved with good political action, rather then needing the Federation itself to be radically changed. 3. Overall they find this to be a fascinating opportunity to learn more about how skrell develop in other cultures, while still having the freedom to join the rest of skrell society when they choose to do so. Overall finding it acceptable, and not viewing them in a negative light. 4. A receiver, as they for the most part they share most of the common ideas of skrellian society, without many ideas that stray from the consensus. They are slightly more open to entertaining foreign cultures then usual, however still do show most of their loyalty to Federation culture and society.
meep109 Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Some questions as well: 1. How old is Qul? 2. What faith does Qul follow? 3. What is Qul's favorite food?
Desven Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Hi, just want to chip in—as per the wiki, Vaurcae arrived in the Federation circa 2450, so your Skrell would likely be very young to be playable on station. Another important bit is that while Vaurcae can molt, this is rare, and it would be extremely hard for a Skrell to get their hands on a piece of Vaurca chitin. If it were lab material for xenoanatomy, sure, but for a coming of age ceremony where you can just burn it, I feel like this wouldn't really fly. If you want to incorporate Vaurcae in your story somehow, I recommend you check out Diulszi. Good luck.

Aye this was mostly intended as a small detail to symbolize an interest in alien cultures, and the timeline on vaurca arrival may have flown over my head slightly. It was also intended to really just be a very tiny chip or shaving, not anything resembling a large chunk. If it does not fit here it can very well be replaced with anything that shares the same symbolism however, such as a small chunk of Dionae biomass, or a human hair. Thanks for mentioning it! 3 hours ago, meep109 said: Some questions as well: 1. How old is Qul? 2. What faith does Qul follow? 3. What is Qul's favorite food? 1. Around 84, being a relatively young adult working for a not overly prestigious journal. 2. Qeblak, preferring its methodical calculations over Weishii's more spiritual focus. Finding Kir'gul and Suur'ka to be interesting ways of thought aswell, but ones too radical to be followed at this time. 3. Out of skrellian food they enjoy Neaera as a delicious dessert during important milestones or events. However overall their favorite food would be potatoes whether mashed or roasted, finding them to be a wonderful example of foreign food, and one with a rich history. And finding their softness quite good for skrellian gums.
WhatsUpBrotendo Posted July 15 Posted July 15 Sorry it's taken a little bit longer than usual to come to a decision. Timezones make discussing things internally and in a timely manner difficult. We've decided to deny this application based on the lack of depth in the backstory and answers given. I suggest reading through the wiki, asking questions on discord, and looking at previous applications to help with this. You may reapply in three days.
