Hackie Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Not with mods, with mods the game felt genuinely difficult, more alive. The game looked better and combat was more fun. In skyrim's case, I pumped in enough mods so it became a sort of, first person Dark Souls, that worked. Hits mattered, if you made a strike, you had to worry where you were trying to hit. Maybe you're a dexterous fighter, focusing on dodging and fast strikes rather than tanking hits with your shield (I had a mod with actual dodging). Or, are you ranged? The slow hard-hitting crossbowman, or the fast shooting hit and run archer. There was a plentiful amount of variety, and mods is what made Skyrim in great. Fallout New Vegas, I made it somewhat like Day Z rpg? I don't know how to compare it, but I made the combat very difficult with mods. Quote
Frances Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 There's some decent combat mods for both games. But while they can rebalance numbers, little can change the fact that the combat doesn't /feel/ right. Having guns/swords that kill in one hit can remedy that to an extent, but nothing in fallout was able to prevent me from feeling like I was shooting at putty monsters with a broken watergun most of the time. Hackie Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Not numbers, you just haven't looked hard enough. It's not all numbers, there are actual mods that add mechanics, like in Skyrim, dodging, with proper animations. There are mods that actually change mechanics, add mechanics and the like. I could show you some of those mods if you want. Quote

I could show you some of those mods if you want. I was actually planning on doing a new FNV playthrough sometime soon, so that'd be awesome. My main gripes are with the "feel" of the weapons, though. And it's not something I've seen a mod completely fix. You can get crosshairs for guns, and change sound effects, but truly reworking the combat would mean redoing all animations, animation timers, projectiles (for guns again), stagger animations, etc. It's a massive amount of work and I don't think any modder has undertaken it yet. (And yes, I love to complain about Bethesda games because I love them, to some degree. Even though they're deeply flawed as far as RPGs go.) Quote
Rusty Shackleford Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Frances, if you have gripes about the feeling of the weapons, get the Nexus Mod Launcher and download every single fucking one of Millenia's gun mods. They're the absolute fucking best. And get the ones that were also made by Naky or MTindle too as they work with Millenia on his stuff. Quote
Witt Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Incase there is a scrublord here, Steam is having a major Fallout sale till tomorrow and you should go buy them Quote
tuiee Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 http://www.twitch.tv/bethesda/v/6189973 I just had the biggest nerdgasm. The whole stream is worth watching, but if you just want Fallout, skip ahead. Don't watch the YouTube videos, as they're missing some massive bits of content. Also, (MAJOR SPOILER): POWER ARMOR WITH FUCKING JETPACKS HOLY SHIT. Quote
