Fyni Posted September 3 Posted September 3 BYOND Ckey: Fyni Discord username: Fyni Character names: Currently: Z.I. Circe Rhea Volvalaad Hazel #S-H8.11 Elizabeth Joyce Polyhymnia Species you are applying to play: Vaurca ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: (RGB 13, 66, 27) – Vetju Bulwark Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Yes Why do you wish to play this species?: At first I wasn’t a huge fan of vaurca. The weird bug thing never really appealed to me as something I’d like to play. However, as I talked to vaurca fans and played alongside them, roleplayed with them and a bunch of quite interesting concepts I have really come around to them. The long history they had before contact, and them been somewhat of a “fallen” civilization is also very appealing to me. The blend of VR and biological uniqueness creates a real unique race, perhaps the most unique amongst Aurora’s roster. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: So much is decided for them before they hatch. Emotionally, their loyalty to brood and hive is mandated biologically. Physically, they are suited for a specific task. However, despite this each vaurca can develop their own individual quirks within these limitations set for them. Additionally, there are a lot of ways to communicate and roleplay directly in game. From hivenet, which allows distant communication with more than just words, to pheromones to use of biological appendages unique to them (while lacking the ones we might use as humans). ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Ra’Akaix’Urkk K’lax Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. Ra’Akaix’Urkk K’lax hatched only two years ago in 2465 as part of Vetju’s brood on the planet Tret. Surrogate breeders “imaged” Urkk to be part of Queen Vetju’s continued use of the new Bulwark caste to continue her work on the planet’s northern pole. Intended to “mine” the outer hull of the grounded Hiveship Kloz’xera, where the bulwark’s natural resistance to radiation and high pressure would protect it from potential danger. Urkk spent several time dilated VR years in Klo’vtak, gaining happiness in it’s dangerous physical labour, and then learning in Fee’kpel, the Terrestrial Fabricator, one of it’s subrealms. As a player there, it experienced the wonders which it’s labours could create and the practical joy of hands-on activity. Upon reaching maturity, Urkk went to work in the environment it was hatched for. The outer hull of the Kloz’xera proved just as dangerous as expected, but their physical traits as a Type E allowed it to walk under Uueoa-Esa’s intense radiation and withstand the extreme temperatures and pressure. It found all the happiness it expected in this work, developing a quirk towards patterns and repetition in the design of the ancient Hiveship, weathered even by its millennia long voyage and extreme end. This quirk had it’s roots in the partial technical training it had received during it’s time in VR, an expression of finding order amongst chaos just as Urkk had built a ship in Fee’kpel from the jumble of virtual rocks beneath it’s feet. In 2467, as part of a deal with Hephaestus Industries, Urkk and several other bulwarks of the same hive cell were sent to work as miners under Hephaestus’ banner in highly hazardous enviroments. Urkk ended up on the SCCV Horizon, coming aboard during the ship’s stint above Burzsia in that same year. How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character. The War in Heaven broke out in earnest shortly after Urkk reached maturity. While Queen Vetju was not directly involved, Urkk could not help but be exposed to this outbreak of hostilities. Each warrior voided in this conflict is not just a terrible fate but one less warrior of Hive K’lax, and Urkk believes is strength in numbers and unity, seeing Queen Zkaii as an aggressor weakening the Hive as a whole. Add in the Mudki rebellion on nearby Moghes, and the raid on Burzsia which it learned of during its transit to the Horizon, Urkk believes more and more that K’lax needs to remain strong and united even if the Spur cannot, for the Lii’dra menace still lurks. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? Urkk had a “crash course” in VR alongside the others in it’s hivecell on what to expect as it’s trajectory took it off Tret and into the wider spur, ensuring they would at least fit alongside the multicultural crew of the Horizon. Hephaestus’ corporate culture, at least what little of it Urkk has been exposed to, has suited its outlook. “The anvil on which the world is shaped” is a slogan which Urkk believes could be applied to Queen Vetju and her shaping and maintenance of ancient technology. It sees working for Hephaestus as enriching its brood through other, indirect means while doing the same work, and has sought to continue its odd fascinations on the many planets of the Spur and Expanse. It shows great loyalty to Hephaestus managers and executives, though of course there remains a greater loyalty to brood and hive. 3
Carver Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Hi, thank you for your application! It's looking solid, but we have a few additional questions for you. What are Urkk's thoughts on the recently reinstated Court of Queens? What does it think of the Unathi, as well as the greater Izweski Hegemony? How does it feel about working for the SCC, and how does it view the other species of the Spur as a whole?

Recent is an intresting word, given it happened over two years before Urkk's hatching which was also two years ago. However, it has mixed feelings about the Court of Queens. It aligns with it's sense that there should be unity amongst the hives in their new homes, but Queen Vetju, Urkk's own Queen, still remains no part of it, and there is a sense of unease in Urkk's hivecell over Zo'ra ambition - though of late the urgency of this has been pushed aside by the War in Heaven. Urkk's opnion on Unathi and the Hegemony aligns with Queen Vetju, and in fact goes a little further. While it believes the vassalization of the Hive was essential at the time, it believes Hive K'lax is able to grow stronger independently in a way that the Hegemony restricts. Urkk has not had the oppertunity to work or interact with sinta, but has negatively linked them with the Hegemony. It's work with the SCC is a chance to advance the goals of Vetju and the K'lax as a whole. It would find joy in any work after it's time in VR, but always does so believing in a greater plan and goal. It remains excited to meet all the species which it has not had chance to meet ever before. It most strongely holds a resentment towards the Unathi, believes humanity to be oppertunistic, greedy and short sighted, learning of their own recent wars, and the Skrell to be arrogant. These perseptions of species derives mostly from it's knowledge of it's own and other hives, and how that have faired since their arrival in the Spur, combined with Vetju's belief that her own brood and Hive K'lax at least are been stunted by their "allies" and can only prosper alone. The joined theme between these three answers is Urkk's desire for Vaurca independence from whichever nation and species has "adopted" them, be it the K'lax and the Hegemony, C'thur and the Federation or Zo'ra and the Republic, and in this independence prosperity built from the wreckage of the relics of Sedantis, their own technology - all very much inline with Queen Vetju.
