The7thLain Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Hello everyone! Once again the time has come for us in the Human Lore Team to fill a vacancy in our ranks. We are quite excited to open up applications for a Deputy Writer position here and are excited to see what thoughts and ideas our candidates might apply with and how the greater Aurora community might perceive them. I have headed the human lore team for over five years at this point and I am very excited to help usher in this next chapter of what human lore on Aurorastation might look like. My deputy @NewOriginalSchwann and I both will be watching these applications with great interest and will offer feedback to the candidates after the community has been given some time to interact with their submissions. Before I show the questions that the application consists of, it would be prudent of me to express some of the Expectations and Standards that apply to a person in a human lore deputy writer position. They have been included in a spoilerised dropdown below. To our potential applicants, please be sure to thoroughly read and digest these before you apply. Spoiler As a human lore deputy writer, you must remain active in the lore team. This can take many forms which include writing forum articles, making approved additions to the wiki pages, participating in lore team discussions on the staff discord, or editing the works of your fellow writers on the Human Lore Team. If you, as a human lore deputy writer, do not do any of these things for three weeks at any time during your tenure of the writer slot, you will be asked to resign. There will be no warnings issued for inactivity and by accepting the position of deputy writer you also accept that you may be asked to resign for inactivity. I expect writers to be active and to keep track of themselves. If, however, there are short-term real life circumstances such as emergencies, deaths of loved ones, vacations, exam season, moving, or tough times at work which cause a deputy to be inactive, there will be exceptions made on a case-by-case basis. I do not want to appear heartless or cold to the plights of those who I work with; I went through law school while being the human lore maintainer and it is by the understanding and clemency of the wonderful people who I worked with then and continue to work with now that I was able to continue contributing as a writer during times when things got rough. I just want to make it clear to all applicants that we need people in the position who will participate and not occupy the slot while not contributing without good reason. As a human lore deputy writer, you must maintain a positive and friendly relationship with the community at large. This is not me saying that you need to be best friends with everyone. There may be certain people in the community that you do not get along with, even. What I am saying though is that you cannot let your personal conflicts with community members get in the way of what role you serve in the community as a deputy writer for the Human Lore Team. That is a friendly expert on human lore who can answer questions that the community may have or direct people to the appropriate lore resources, either on the wiki or the forums, so that they can better understand the ins and outs of human lore. Writing is a collaborative process on the Human Lore Team. Your ideas will be critiqued by myself, the other deputy, other deputies and writers from other teams, and from lore team management themselves so that we all may work together to create something great for our server's lore. In order to hold this position you must be able to accept and work with criticism that comes your way, even if it is of an idea that you are personally attached to or have put a lot of effort into creating or refining. If you cannot work well with others in the face of criticism of your creative ideas, including those ideas that you have a significant personal investment in, I would suggest that you do not apply for the position. Similarly, if you cannot offer criticism in a way that is not belligerent or passive aggressive, I would too suggest that you do not apply for the position. The priorities of the Human Lore Team and greater Aurora Lore Team Management change over time and often drift to new areas. At the present, the focus of Lore Team Management and by extension of the Human Lore Team is emphasising the phoron scarcity and the effects it might have on the setting as a whole. Naturally, we in the Human Lore Team are most concerned about writing the scarcity for human factions. As a newly appointed deputy writer, your primary focus will be discussing ideas about and coming up with ways to implement the impacts of the phoron scarcity across all human faction locations and factions. Because of this focus, we are not currently prioritising the addition of new locations, factions, or additions that are not in some way related to implementing the phoron scarcity to our existing locations. This is not to say that everything a new deputy writer will write has to be about the phoron scarcity, of course. All of our writers have side projects they can work on and we encourage them to do so. However, we do want to inform all applicants of the team’s current overarching priorities. When writing their applications we strongly encourage you to not consult anyone else, especially current or former members of the server’s lore team, on the contents of your answers to the questions posed by the application. We are interested in your ideas and perspectives, not those of your friends as we do not intend to appoint them as deputies too. We encourage our writers to keep on the pulse of the state of the game and play at least one round per week. Life can be very busy and this is not something that a deputy will be fired over if they do not keep up with it, sometimes life gets busy, the server's population lulls, or a player's time zone might make it hard for them to consistently play. However, we think that playing at least semi-consistently is something that helps with knowing where the community stands on the lore we write. We also would like to combat the impression that staff members do not play the game, even if I, myself, have been guilty of being part of this problem multiple times. Any candidate found to be using AI to write answers to the application questions, in whole or in part, will be rejected immediately. Similarly, any human lore deputy writer found to be using AI to write lore for the server will be dismissed on the spot. Using AI to apply or create work for a creative position like this is very dishonest and will make me think less of you as a person. We are humans writing lore for humans. If you believe that you can meet the expectations and comply with the standards listed above, then please feel free to apply. Rules for Commenters: Anyone can comment on the application, however those offering comments to the applicants must maintain good conduct and follow the server & forum’s rules. The same goes for applicants responding to those offering feedback on their applications. Brigading is strictly prohibited. Mass -1’s without any sort of substance or feedback of an applicant’s applications will not be tolerated and will result in moderation actions being taken. Applicants are free to comment on the applications of their fellow candidates and leave constructive feedback, however comments that are seen as unprofessional or comments that disparage one candidate in favour of the commenter’s own ideas or application are prohibited. Those candidates that comment in this manner will have their applications swiftly rejected. Format: Candidates must make their respective applications as new topic forum posts under the applications boards sections and clearly title them in a way that it would communicate to a reasonable Aurora forum browser that they are indeed applying for the Human Lore Deputy position. Along with this, applicants should clearly provide their BYOND Ckeys and how long they have been a member of the Aurorastation community at the top of their applications. Please also tag your post with the tags of "lore writer," and "human." When answering the questions asked in the application, please copy and paste the questions onto your application and then provide your answers to each question respectively. Application Questions: The application questions can be found below in a spoilerised drop-down. Spoiler Why are you applying for the position of human lore deputy writer? Why do you think that you would be good in the position? What is your favourite part of Human Lore and why? If you submitted something for canonisation that was indeed canonised you may not select that as the answer to this question. What do you believe are ways that the Human Lore Team could best implement the phoron scarcity to our various factions and locations throughout the setting that would reflect the gravity of the in-character situation without grossly compromising the out-of-character things that make each faction and location unique and compelling? What do you believe are the current strengths and weaknesses of human lore? Why? What would you do to improve upon the weaknesses? Please do not mention offworlders in your answer to this question. We know that they are a weak spot and that they require action and would prefer to hear perspectives that do not highlight this area of human lore. What are three projects (medium-to-large size additions, arcs, or reworks) that you would like to complete during your tenure as a Human Lore Deputy writer? Please do not mention new locations or factions in this answer. What is an idea for a future arc that you would like to have a part in writing and organising in the future? If you provided an arc(s) as part of your answer for question 3, you may expand on the ideas for that arc(s) here, or you may provide another idea. Have you ever been subject to any warnings, strikes, or bans from the Aurora moderation team? If so, how long ago were you and for what actions did you receive moderation action for? Answers for this question should include actions taken on the game server, discord servers, and forums. OPTIONAL: Do you have any miscellaneous comments or remarks for the Human Lore Team or the community? Time Parameters: These applications will be open for three weeks (2025/10/28 - 2025/11/18) so as to allow our prospective candidates enough time to get their ideas out there. While an applicant is free to post whenever they please within that time window, we encourage those interested in the position to apply early so that there can be more community participation and engagement on their posts. We want to inspire discussion and conversation with these applications and look forward to reading the interactions between the community and the applicants themselves.
