Arbiter_Ambrose Posted February 15 Posted February 15 (edited) Ckey/BYOND Username: Arbiter_Ambrose Discord Name: master_ambrose Position Being Applied For: Deputy Past Experiences/Knowledge: I have written some poems, small proses, but not much else, I hope that I can expand that portfolio in future even if not accepted. Examples of Past Work: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1xegIv9GnS1aP2iMps7602oDZaIbMkocvJdXd7HctkOc/edit?tab=t.0 I do not have access to the anything else sadly in terms of writing, https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/21525 this was majorly helped by thegreywolf so it is more of their PR, but I still did do some of the code in this. (list of pull requests you made to the Aurora repository or other relevant work) Additional Comments: I know this is specifically based on the application gabby did, and this is because it is a bit of a old application, I have refurbished it up to my current beliefs and skills and hope that it gives a good insight into me and I made sure it fufills the categories given for the current requests. 1. What other skills related to lore development do you have, besides writing, if any? Various skills that I thought may be useful to mention would be basic photo-editing, knowledge of mapping to a degree, although at this time of writing I have not completed anything aside from a minor addition to the ti’rakqi smuggler with a lot of help from thegreywolf but I have several things in the work and am always learning. 2. Choose any Dionae background besides Moghresian, Hieroaetherian, or Voidtamer, and write a 2-paragraph summary of some cultural additions that you believe would improve the writing as a character building resource. Right, I am going to be hopping about for this but I think that covering multiple concepts would be good since I have a few basic ideas for two cultures, I think it would be really good to get a better idea of how other species are interacting with Voidic Dionae and most particularly in that regard harming them. In the Modern era, Voidic dionae have found themselves more and more inhibited by other species with the most prominent being humanity, ships crashing into them, the gas emissions from ships shifting migration spots, and the metals and alloys created by Voidic dionae being hunted for. While the chance a single ship crashes into a gestalt even of Cetus size is low, when many ships in a unregulated system pass through the chance is greatly increased given sensors can struggle to detect gestalts drifting through space as the skrell first discovered themselves. Some Voidic dionae have taken to trailing ships for the exhausted gases that they spew from their thrusters, despite being slower than the ship themselves, this has found some success as the motion of the gas transfers to them, although in a opposite direction meaning it requires some precise considerations from the gestalt, this is not only a benefit to dionae however given stray thruster burns can sometimes knock them dramatically off path hindering long established plans to meet up with a fellow gestalt sometimes even centuries or eons in the making. However while dionae have also been assisted by these circumstances occasionally, not all harm to a gestalt is accidental, many voidic gestalts create special alloys and find rare metals that can assist them in spearing carp swarms for sustenance, where stellar radiation is thin (like the lemurian sea?) or providing a sort of shield from space dust that would otherwise injure or irritate a gestalt moving through it and various other reasons, this has become a great interest to mercenaries and miners, such behaviours has been seen in Xelp III with a Echion’s death at the hands of miners to seek the wealth inside their gestalt, though at the time they were viewed as a weed. Some have even found a living hunting Trirerne across the spur given most Echion are protected by system defense forces, scientific research teams or surveillance drones and satellites, and this comes with much profit as even the biomass of the gestalt has become a luxury among some elites, dominian nobles are known to enjoy roasted nymphs at specific expensive functions, though they require treatment to remove lethal reagents. Gestalts have adapted to this, albeit very slow given the nature of the voidsong network, learning the markings of infamous hunting vessels, moving their drift to avoid previously popular routes and decentralise, sometimes even grouping up to provide a more difficult assault on the ‘caravan’, and governments of the spur have acknowledged the illegality of the hunting, though some more than others. 3. Do you have any thoughts regarding Xrim or Nralakk-integrated Dionae? What direction would you take with them? I think they are a interesting concept regarding xrim and have alot to be used for, being one of the most intraspecific conflict for dionae, though hierotheria has it’s own though now much smaller in a way, not to mention being less directly violent and more neglect, I think the history is a bit confusing in some extents as it doesn’t make sense to me how the enlightened advanced farther than the scorned with their ruthless advancement, however I understand it is partially a choice to make the culture work and also possible since their industrialism doesn’t inherently equal more superior technology and other than that I would like to see perhaps a bit more expansions in culture, which can be seen above, maybe some additions to their war history to push the harshness of it and elaborate on how the scorned got integrated so easily, I like the origin and think that if it was to get some further conflict between the scorned and enlightened current day, well more than it has already that would be neat. Regarding purely Nralakk-integrated Dionae, I think they are cool, much like xrim dionae but they lack the same.. Lore about them and they don’t really feel prominent in the Nralakk lore from what I have seen, which isn’t a issue but I would like it if they were explored more, perhaps exploring the political field and perhaps more on how they have adapted to their replacement from generally being the labourer species, though they obviously have many other purposes in the federation it was a core aspect of their time, I don’t think what we have right now needs much more than a small expansion though. 4. Our primary factions as of now are The Eternal, The Voidtamer Confluence, and Hieroaetheria. What are your thoughts on them as of now, and how could you see them progress? Regarding The Eternal as a faction, I think that it could use some work as at the moment it simply does not really appeal to the average player in my opinion, while I enjoy the way it has been implemented it kind of lacks any substance to latch onto beyond that, and I think it would be nice to expand on the identity as a religion and lifestyle in some way, I am not quite sure how I would work towards this and make the faction more appealing in both ways but I hope to collaborate with the team to achieve that, it definitely has foundations for alot more expansion in that way like the eternal gardens in biesel, or iron eternal in the narrows, this isn’t to say I dislike the faction, I really like it as a concept and want to see it go in a direction that highlights the difference from the other religions species have while making it interesting to explore and play and I personally thing simplemaroon has posited a few good ideas on that end. As for the Voidtamer Confluence, my opinion is mixed, I like the faction and how it expands voidic dionae, it definitely has alot of connections like to the rueltab tragedy and I initally disliked the history page for being a bit difficult to read out but after a recent reread, I think the poetic nature is well balanced with readability. I think we could perhaps work with the ever-modernising galaxy clashing with the faction? Perhaps the ever-expanding piracy problem of the spur could be affecting them or maybe something else, I hesitate to say anything internal since they seem quite tight knit and the kind of group that would mainly have external issues, but I could see it working, I definitely have to agree with simple maroon’s prior stance on some of their capacities and connecting what makes their methods either more advanced or different from other factions like hierotheria would be good. New Hierotheria is very fun, I like it, it is very organised like a diona and gives you a few ideas on the ends of consortium and even still on the states left on the wayside, while I miss them, I think it is a fair choice to make as it was really disorganised in terms of focus and the new compact is much more clearly defined for me. Maybe we could see the other nations slowly opened up to the outside world and maybe we could get some more articles out about how operations is going around the Titan’s Rapture System and it’s vicinity. 5. What is your availability? I am very available, I only have at current 3 days of college in the middle of the week, with 4 free days, something I quite enjoy, obviously sometimes I am going to a family member’s house, or something similar to that maybe a walk even but those are atleast for me sparse, to clarify as a editted comment, I am in BST as a timezone though I have irregular hours compared to the average of that timezone. 6. What would I like to contribute to the team personally? Well, I really, really, like ships, but I don’t really think diona lore needs all that much of that, maybe some ruin refurbishments however, I want to mainly contribute articles or additions to already existing pages since I personally feel I do best when I have a clear goal and a basis to work on, and articles while a bit different from what I just said could be similar to that, and additions are likewise. Maybe a few more famous dionae so they can get some sorts of idols outside of just skrellian kind, like celebrity kind of idols. I also want to collaborate with what I have mentioned here to hopefully made the areas mentioned better, I think diona lore has alot going for it and I know I have somewhat been negative, but I love alot of the lore and I just want to highlight areas for improvement. Boggle08 Posted Saturday at 03:07 Posted Saturday at 03:07 (edited) Hey, thanks for applying. Looking over the post opening up deputy applications, I made that way back in September of last year. Things have changed drastically; I'm going to have to update that with new questions. For this application, I have a mix of curated and general questions: 1. How creatively flexible are you as a writer? Due to time constraints, Dionae lore is ran very top heavy. You will often be asked to help create drafts or execute directives from the lore writer. The NBT2 itself is an inter-team collaboration project that shifts constantly. 2. The Phoron Scarcity is a special interest of the LTA. All factions in the spur are in some way dependent on the material, and Dionae lore is no exception. As an example exercise, pick any faction that isn't the Voidtamers, Hieroaetheria, or the Viridis, and write a concise elevator pitch for a logistical need/desire for phoron, for the chosen faction. 3. Character retention is of course a priority of the team as well. You've touched on your application a desire to improve the cultural elements of Dionae lore, as well as introduce elements that improve end-user character creation/handleability. Could you go into more detail of what you'd have in mind? Edited Saturday at 03:11 by Boggle08 1

Could you go into more detail of what you'd have in mind? Yes, apologises if utilising the older application was a poor choice, it still had alot of things I agreed with, thank you for the questions, I am happy to answer them! 1A. I would say I am capable of conforming to such a structure though I have not had a direct experience in that way as a writer, there have been times in my life where I must tolerate not getting my way or going half way on things, I also think having to execute a task with parameters is actually something that I can do fairly well and look forward to, so I feel with the elaboration you have given I am out of ten a 7 in how flexible I am, I think while it is not the initial structure I anticipated, I think it will be more conductive to productivity for me. 2A. In the HPS Narrows, HI-KEEPER has been slowly coming to life and integrated in systems, unfortunately in order to properly repair them, new and expensive additions of phoron-based processing were needed from Hephaestus Industries. 3A. Well, I think in terms of what I think is the kind of improvement I have in mind, the new liberty cluster page has three aspects which combine with it's host lore (Tau Ceti System and Biesel as a whole) to make a good in my mind atleast whitelist character as a example of culture that is neat, it is very easy to understand what the page is trying to convey even for those who may need more elaboration with some stuff and it is laid out in a neat and easily read way. It also allows room for alot of different avenues simply by combining all of the different factors that biesel as a origin allows giving players many ways to go in how they create a character while still defining kind of how the origin is supposed to be, and that is pretty easy to see. And in my opinion pretty importantly, alot of the stuff mentioned can very easily be done or displayed in game, while we do not have windchimes or a hoodie with increase storage, you can pretty easily demonstrate certain traits of the culture like the patriotism of a loyalist or the maverick independent streak, aswell as use flavour-text or customised items. Applying my thought process of these aspects from the liberty cluster page to the eternal which I mentioned prior, I would lay out some of the eternal's philosophy in a way that makes it easy to understand how you are supposed to represent it in game, as a example while the orthodox eternal mentions sermons and debates, there is not particularly that much to actually debate about as all the different eternalite beliefs have no grounds to claim which is right, or why exactly they believe all of this (in a fashion that makes a bit more sense) and how you can demonstrate that in a round, I think just a few phrases shared between the sects and the faith as a whole, perhaps integrated into the current prayer songs, aswell as acts like how the trinary faith has could help given the diona culture's nonverbal communication methods being a factor. I think I would start by first adding quotes as those can serve as very clear demonstrations of things and other species pages have them, aswell as adding a bit more explanation on how they came to these thought processes and giving a bit more of a religious feel or zeroing in more completely on what it has now, because while it is a religion it feels more a philosophy with religion tacked on which is good because it makes it unique but it is bad because it is trying to be both in a unclear way for the reader and it makes itself rather difficult for players to use from my experience, given it is a religion it does not particularly need to have that many avenues as the liberty cluster primarily because it is something you place onto a already existing character, and I think it does it fairly well already. I hope the length of this is not a problem, I considered on it for a fair while and settled on this, I hope using a example from a already existing page I like and applying the concepts I have picked from it to the eternal has demonstrated what kind of ideas I have in mind. Boggle08 Posted yesterday at 01:54 Posted yesterday at 01:54 Two last questions for you: 1. What are your favorite factions right now? What would you be most excited to work with? 2. If Dionae lore's creative direction was yours alone, with no directives from the LTA to fulfil, how would Dionae lore change?
Arbiter_Ambrose Posted yesterday at 14:06 Author Posted yesterday at 14:06 (edited) A1. It is a quite a difficult choice, I have rather close affection to both voidic dionae, the Underhive, and Xrim, but if I had to pick one I would be most excited to help working on? It would probably be Xrim given it shows some of diona's more negative regions and what they are willing to do when differences are unreconcilable, a more direct oppression that is on a wider scale than the narrows, and a history that can be explored regarding that allowing a fairly large wealth of ideas. Also them worshipping glorsh is just somewhat humorous on first thought, not to imply that is my only thought about it, though that is more of a eternal subject, which I also have interest in but not as much as the above. A2. Hm, while I do not think I currently have the creative direction capacity to fulfil such a role if I am frank, perhaps it in future could improve, diona lore probably would go further into voidic dionae though I enjoy the current direction of industrialism so, it would possibly stay fairly same if I understand the current direction. I think I would also look to focus on cultural cues for all the different factions as the narrows with it's different phrases for some things is nice but not as obtrusive as Eridani's, though I am thinking more so in a non-verbal communication sense, since that has been rather interesting to me. I would maybe establish a few COC gestalt groups, however they would probably not be a major each gets their own page thing, just something to establish diona presence in the region connected to the planets rather than the star map region, given skrell and unathi have a similar problem of not a established group or two, even if this would slightly step on the toes of Voidtamer Confluence, I feel it would be helpful as a resource for COC dionae that don't want to be part of that but still want a basis. I hope these answers are satisfactory! Edited yesterday at 14:07 by Arbiter_Ambrose Clarification that I did not think glorsh is just funny
