ShadowedEnvy Posted May 10 Posted May 10 BYOND Ckey: ShadowedEnvy Discord username: x9atyce9fe Character names: Kathryn Poddar, Nirai Shevchenko, ISAIAh Species you are applying to play: Dionae ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: Medium brown Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this species?: I'd love to be able to play a species that doesn't think like humans do - and dionae especially have a wide variety of mindtypes that can give characters more variety in motivation. Their long potential lives also mean that characters can have a much wider variety of experience than other species. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: Every gestalt is a collective, and every action has to make sense through the logic of its particular mindtype, which can vary substantially depending on the type. A human, for example, would never need to pause to consider the desires of another personality within them - Or at least not one that gets hired on the Horizon. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Bright Thoughts Die In Darkness Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon: Bright Thoughts were 'born' from the destruction of the Rueltab Titan. Their first coherent memories come from the aftermath its destruction, knowing little beyond a deep sense of loss and guilt for what the Titan had done. One nymph in particular (hereafter 'lost nymph') lost so many connections it could not remember anything, even itself, and gained a deep fear of forgetting so much again, which would later greatly influence the development of the gestalt. Bright Thoughts would spend the next couple of decades (until 2399) sorting through Solarian garbage, learning as much from the scraps as they could. Most of the gestalt enjoyed the process of learning and felt it was right to serve the Solarians, but the lost nymph's obsessive fear of forgetting pushed Bright Thoughts to seek better conditions. To this end, the gestalt would attempt to ingratiate themselves with the Solarians, with another nymph taking on the skill of socializing through both experience and genetic assimilation where possible. After managing a combination of paying off their debt and convincing the Solarians their debt was paid off, Bright Thoughts joined other dionae on Biesel in the Eternal Gardens. There, they would take part in the early days of centralized Eternal religion, debating the nature of existence and the lessons to be learned from the Titan's destruction. Through these debates, both among other gestalts and within Bright Thoughts themselves, they would join the Iron Eternal faith, believing that genetic memory is transient, but outside records may provide a more enduring memory of the past. In their quest to provide such records, while also 'paying back' those they felt they had harmed as the Titan, they would spend the next nearly six decades (2405-2460) working with the support of the Eternal Temple as a journalist in the Eternal Gardens and eventually around Biesel, even off-planet. Decades of increasingly successful integration in human and greater spur society, however, could not keep at bay the lost nymph's worsening obsessive fears of another loss of the magnitude of Rueltab, especially after the Solarian invasion in 2459. After decades of saving , Bright Thoughts would consider themselves secure enough to strike out into the greater spur, to record and leave records as far and wide as possible. How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character?: The invasion of Biesel and dictatorship of Frost in 2459 greatly accelerated Bright Thoughts' departure from the planet. Subsequent worries include phoron scarcity potentially slowing the spread of knowledge, and disasters like the one on Konyang destroying it entirely. The SCCV Horizon's current mission to the Lemurian Sea specifically interests Bright Thoughts: There may be lost knowledge there, and they want to be there to ensure nothing is forgotten if so. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for?: Bright Thoughts do not work for a megacorporation; However, they would not ideologically opposed to it, if only they would not be forced to record untruths or suppress records of the truth for the sake of an employer. Currently, they work for a minor Biesellite news outlet - The Mendell Examiner - looking for early coverage of any potential discoveries in the Lemurian Sea. Bright Thoughts considers it only a necessary evil to restrict any knowledge gained to their employer in exchange for the funds to travel and spread knowledge, so long as they may freely report on it after the period of exclusivity. Other Notes: Mindtype is a mix of Competence Choir, Tyrannical Tune, and Scholarly Song: The lost nymph specializes in interfacing with technology, specifically for the purpose of writing down or otherwise recording knowledge, but its constant obsessive thoughts have slowly molded the rest of the collective to accept its desires as their own when it decides they are not acting 'correctly'. 1
Arbiter_Ambrose Posted Friday at 16:48 Posted Friday at 16:48 Hello, I had a few questions regarding your application, I hope you will not mind! What is Bright Thought's opinion on the young fledgling republic of biesel? How do they feel about the political climate? You note that Bright Thoughts worked from 2405 to 2460 within the eternal gardens and the eternal temple, but it was not founded yet, how do the other sects of the Eternal feel to the gestalt? How does Bright Thoughts feel about the Xrimic dionae in the federation and their conflict? Admonition of Temporal Transgressions is a Rueltab Survivour and current Champion of The Primal Echoes of The Void Before Time, how does Bright Thoughts feel about them and their views? Feel free to contact us if you need clarification on these questions.
ShadowedEnvy Posted yesterday at 17:58 Author Posted yesterday at 17:58 (edited) What is Bright Thought's opinion on the young fledgling republic of biesel? How do they feel about the political climate?: The lost nymph's obsessions have not honed in on a specific conclusion regarding Biesel's independence, leaving the gestalt significantly less single-minded than on other topics. Bright Thoughts mostly support the Republic, reasoning that improved rights for synthetics and non-humans will lead to less suffering and pain, as well as luring in more people with new experiences to safely spread their knowledge which could otherwise be lost. Other parts of the gestalt, however, believe more strongly that independence and the conflicts it has led to destroy more knowledge than is created, and fear still further violence. Another point of contention is the guilt the gestalt feels from the Titan: The nymphs more supportive of Biesel tend to consider the actions of the Titan to have been a crime against humanity as a whole, while those less supportive consider the victims to be more specifically Solarians. The social nymph, leaning towards the Republic and having the backing of the majority of the gestalt, is generally free to speak on the matter without interference given the indifference of the lost nymph. Regarding the Republic's current political climate, Bright Thoughts express uncertainty - though more single-mindedly, under the influence of the lost nymph. The ceasefire in Mictlan brought an end to the violence there and the protests on Biesel, but the plans of the current president are uncertain. Hopefully, Torvald will use his power for good (i.e. preserving knowledge), but Bright Thoughts have seen before the damage someone with too much power can do on Biesel. It is better to watch from a safe distance, just in case. You note that Bright Thoughts worked from 2405 to 2460 within the eternal gardens and the eternal temple, but it was not founded yet, how do the other sects of the Eternal feel to the gestalt?: Bright Thoughts is deeply, deeply convinced that all knowledge is lost upon death, and that the natural forms of the dionae are not sufficient to save it all - It could even be said that the gestalt's core identity was formed around this, or perhaps warped by it. Indeed, the name they have chosen - Bright Thoughts Die In Darkness - is not a warning or a fear, but an absolutely certain statement about the nature of the universe: One already experienced by the gestalt. Thus, while not strictly opposed to the Ichor or Orthodox Eternal, anyone who is unwilling to have their experiences recorded for posterity is considered 'unsaved', and their knowledge will not survive to become a part of the Eternal. Bright Thoughts are competent enough at this point in time, however, not to alienate the other sects with overzealousness, and would not waste effort attempting to convert those already set in their ways. How does Bright Thoughts feel about the Xrimic dionae in the federation and their conflict?: Bright Thoughts is somewhat more aligned with the Enlightened, but disappointed with both: The Scorned for their blind adulation of Glorsh, and the Enlightened for (what they consider) compromising their beliefs by caving to pressure from the Federation. From their experience, a superintelligence is not necessarily infallible, but also synthetics are not universally destructive either, and can even be useful 'tools' (both literally and as fellow people) in the preservation of knowledge. They hope further peace can be found in the future, allowing more effort to be expended on building the Eternal rather than fighting over how. Admonition of Temporal Transgressions is a Rueltab Survivour and current Champion of The Primal Echoes of The Void Before Time, how does Bright Thoughts feel about them and their views?: Bright Thoughts could not disagree more with Admonition: To them, the destruction of the Rueltab Titan already proved that genetic mastery and natural skills or knowledge will always wither and die, no matter the effort put in to save them. Admonition is nothing more than a deluded fool - but ideally, their knowledge should still be recorded before it is inevitably lost forever. Edited yesterday at 19:20 by ShadowedEnvy 1
