Aetherscald Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Hello! My name is David but I go by Aetherscald, I am turning 20 in 8 days and this post is to introduce myself so that I can better ingratiate myself with the Aurora community. I'll start off with how I got into SS13. I first learned of this game via 8chan's /v/ board. They advertised their resident server known as "Hatestation" and after reading the starter's guide on the wiki for /tg/station I went ahead and took the plunge to understanding this game. I honestly remember very little from when I first played or what other servers I went on, but I do remember being very confused by the way things were different for every server due to different codes being used. Events I distinctly remember was being asked to play cards by a changeling and getting eaten, waiting 50000 years to get cloned while reading the wiki for more information, and my first attempt at being a Roboticist, while being aided by a janitor borg who kept giving me posters to hang up around my lab while I tried figuring out how to make an exosuit. From there it's just been me dipping my toes in other science related occupations and learning the ropes through trial and error. My first experience with RP was when I was about 13 and I was involved with a Bioshock roleplaying community on Deviantart where I peddled my own fanon of the underwater city of Rapture being rebuilt by splicers of different factions. After that sunk and I lost interest I got more involved with a Fallout roleplaying community on Facebook where I really honed my writing so to speak and made long lasting friends, despite interest falling and drama increasing in the community. Now i'm here and very interested to be a part of something a lot more interactive. My biggest flaw as a person is that i'm impulsive which is reflected in how I play my characters sometimes. For example, as of this writing, I am currently banned for blowing up the holodeck on impulse despite not being an antagonist, purely because I acted on the impulse of doing so for my own entertainment. While this may seem like i'm prone to shitty behavior, I promise that it's not a consistent thing that happens and you have nothing to worry about regarding whether or not i'm going to stab you in the eyes with a screwdriver "because I felt like it". If I wanted to do stuff like that regularly, i'd go on literally any other server where you're allowed to do that. I like this server's feel and community so I plan on keeping myself on the level with it's rules in the future. I strive to be creative and unique with my writing and characters while also remaining inspired. Generally if someone says "This character reminds me of...." then I feel like i'm not doing good enough. If someone goes out of their way to tell me that they really like what i'm doing with a character then I enterprise on that and try to flesh it out some more. Otherwise, I try to be as friendly as I can and meet people with similar interests. And this is the point of this post. My interests are watching films like Goodfellas, Rocky, The Wolf of Wall Street, Pacific Rim, etc. A wide range of music that I can't really narrow down to a specific genre as being my favorite. Reading anything dystopian or "close to reality, but not quite" books. And world building my own ideas as a hobby. My main communal hobbies are Magick: The Assembling, shooting the shit with my buddy in his garage while he fixes up motorcycles, inviting friends over so I can make them food and catch up, and dating once every three months. I leave to become a U.S Navy Culinary Specialist on the 28th of this month so i'll be inactive for a few months after that. So yeah! Feel free to ask questions or talk to me or whatever. I'm really chill about things and generally don't mind talking about anything. I can be crass about personal subjects though so if your dog died, i'm honestly the worst person to talk to about it. Conservatron Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 welcome! first just a few notes, our lore is very much homebrew, so please browse our wiki and see what is different. Additionally, we use Baystation as our codebase, not TG. While there are many similarities in terms of processes and mechanics, they are very different animals and you should be prepared for that. Aside from this, if you have any questions ask! If I'm in engineering (usually Conservan Xullie) I'm always willing to take new engineers under my wing and teach them all sorts of useful (and somewhat antaggy) things about the profession look forward to see you in game Quote

Tenenza Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 Heyo, and welcome to our community. First offly, by Magick:The Assembly, I'm going to assume you mean magic the gathering, and I'm going to ask you a very important question: What colour(s)/deck architype do you run primarily? Quote

Thanks for the welcome! You'd be right! If I have to slow myself down with colors I like to run Boros or Izzet but I got a major interest in trying out Simic. Otherwise my preferred type of deck is colorless EDH. Right now I run Daretti red artifact EDH because money constraints my dream Karn deck. Quote

I'd definitely be interested in learning your antaggy secrets (and also getting to set up singulo again because lately i've been on servers that only use supermatter and lemme tell ya that's a nightmare!) I however run mostly a monogreen eldrazi-but-not-really deck that's almost entirely singles, except for a few ramp cards and counterspells (mono-green counterspells, they never see it coming). Quote

Yeah I really find the "bounce for bigness" effect interesting, plus all the draw power you can get from it. Do you run that one green eldrazi card that spits out the little 0/1 tokens? I forget what it's called. Quote

Baka Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Welcome Aetherscald to Aurora. You seem like an interesting person. I was 13 as well when I started to roleplay. I hope you do well with being a culinary specialist in the Navy, and I hope to see you again when you come back. Cheers. :> Quote

Tenenza Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Na, I don't do the janky eldrazi-spawn deck type, I mostly use a few singles of the mid range eldrazi (which is to say, still huge, just not stupid expensive), and a playset of Not of This World, that one eldrazi counter spell, as well as hedron matrix, that one eldrazi equipment. Both fit really well into a heavy hitting mono green deck, even without the few eldrazi to back them up. Also, single of eldrazi conscription, because who doesn't love birds of paradise with annihilatior. Quote

Man if the green part of it is focused on ramp then I want to see how fast I can get Myr Battlesphere and Darksteel Forge out against it. Some green cards I can think of that you might like would be Yavimaya Hollow + Birthing Pod, Survival of the Fittest, or Fauna Shaman since those can fetch whatever creatures you want. Also quicksilver amulet is a must for any big creatures but you likely knew about that already. Quote
