How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Since Christmas of this year.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: To exercise executive power, to take charge and to lead my fellow crewmembers to great efficiency!

Why did you come to Aurora?: In short, because Unbound Travels was experiencing technical difficulties for a few days, and this server hooked me in far better than it ever did.

Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is full immersion into an imaginary or semi-imaginary world, weaving from the provided point of view articulated stories that are simultaneously coherent and believable. The fine line between a good roleplayer and a bad roleplayer is a judgement I don't often feel comfortable making in concerns of others, but I strive to maintain my own credibility at all times.


What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The head of staff player is obligated to maintain their function vigilantly, to be a stalwart example of roleplaying, and to serve as an example to all in character subservient and unwhitelisted players.


What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: The OoC purpose of a head of staff is to utilize the extra power afforded to them to further the roleplay of others at any opportunity, so as to maximise the enjoyment of other partisans of roleplay.

Character name: Maximus Crane

Character age: 74

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):


Born into a moderately affluent family in Mendell City, Maximus Crane would've experienced some of the better things in life - not the best, by any stretch, but not the worst. However he was unfortunately born with a genetic defect that carried through his mother's genes, a deformity in the legs that caused partial dwarfism and extreme pain. His legs were thus removed as a child at the base of the thigh. As such, he has spent the majority of his life in a wheelchair. While disability by no means robs a person of enjoyment out of life, it seemed to have a despairing effect on Maximus, which hampered social development. However, his parents were not ones to idly sit by as their son devolved into a crippled loner, and so they actively put him on a track of education that advanced both his academics and social skills, and over the course of his adolescence he advanced to become a premiere student of his class.


Spending the rest of his early years in various universities developing his skills in terms of physics, he geared himself towards helping design engine patterns so humanity could move through the stars. He moved to the planet Luthien to do some work for NanoTrasen in this regards, and it was here where he heard the knews of the Skrell. Initially excited about this, he grew jealous of their intelligence, and was infuriated that they had solved the issue that he and many others had spent years trying to discover. How to travel; Bluespace Engines. Content however that the issue of the energy crisis was not resolved, he refocused his efforts on that, attempting to optimize the nuclear reactor by making it smaller and more portable. Unfortunately, as he was finalizing the designs on this, the element plasma was discovered. He was transferred off of Luthien to one of the mining stations in the Romanovich Cloud, where he helped the scientists research plasma. He was among the staff that discovered its bluespace properties and develop schematics for bluespace gates based off of the research. He was called back to Mendell City when his father died, but return to work soon after. He continued working with NanoTrasen in the Romanovich Cloud, researching plasma, when personal bluespace travel was discovered. Moving his designs to that area, he became a certified telescientist. Soon thereafter public disposition towards NanoTrasen began to plummet due to discontent with their acquisitions. He personally agreed with the sentiment that NanoTrasen was growing far too large far too rapidly, but kept to himself, afraid of losing his job. During the course of the economic recession, his mother was driven from Biesel for lobbying against seceding from the Alliance, and their financial stability was cut. Again, afraid that relations to anti-NanoTrasen people would impact poorly on his job, he rejected all ties with his mother. He was shortly transferred to the freshly constructed NMSS Odin, where he resides in to this day. His sub-assignment was telescientist on the NSS Aurora.


However, as a scientist he was introduced to many other vulgar, dangerous, and rude co-workers. Mocked for his disabilities and faced with near-disasters on a weekly basis, he transferred to the medical research department of virology, and then once again to the civilian department. Discontent with packing boxes, he sought to prove his analytical abilities to his utmost, so as to achieve advancement as soon as possible. On this day, September Twelfth, 2457, he applied for promotion to Head of Personnel.



What do you like about this character?: Maximus Crane is one of my very first characters, and I've always enjoyed playing him. His mindsets, mentalities and predispositions come easily to me, and if any character is going to develop I naturally favour him.


What do you dislike about this character?: His attitude sometimes make him the butt of derision, which sometimes affects me OoCly when it shouldn't this sometimes makes me sad, and so playing him can be difficult at times.


What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: His analytical behaviour makes him excellent for the position of head of personnel, although his crew relation skills are lacking he shows a dedication to most jobs assigned to him. At the very least he is a hard worker, at the very most a worker with unique dedication to his job.

Let's be honest, you're kind of a .9


Lord Fowl has shown time and time again that he is more than capable to roleplay entertaining/hilarious/frustrating or otherwise interesting characters. He displays a unique logical mindset and a different point of view during discussions (though whether it is for the intent to play devil's advocate is always in question, but who cares), and proves to be an entertaining conversationalist nevertheless.


I do believe, however, that a head of staff whitelist application was long delayed. I personally think he deserves this and can definitely make gameplay more fun with Crazy Crane.

Lord Fowl has shown time and time again that he is more than capable to roleplay entertaining/hilarious/frustrating or otherwise interesting characters. He displays a unique logical mindset and a different point of view during discussions (though whether it is for the intent to play devil's advocate is always in question, but who cares), and proves to be an entertaining conversationalist nevertheless.


I do believe, however, that a head of staff whitelist application was long delayed. I personally think he deserves this and can definitely make gameplay more fun with Crazy Crane.

Whitelisted players have a responsibility to create enjoyable rp environments. Saying no for the sake of no is not creating a fun and friendly environment for the staff under you. I’ve never had a pleasant experience rping with any of lords characters. He is constantly hateful and likes to push people around in any way he can. OOC he trolls most of his time without a care of how it affects other people. He will simply continue this behavior as a head; only as a head he will have the power to shut down entire departments because he can. I can’t support this app.

I don't want to turn this post into another one of our arguments (Which I think to be long behind us), but I do feel the need to defend myself, so I will reply once to each of your points.

-Whitelisted players DO have a responsibility to create enjoyable RP environments, but that doesn't mean they have to pander to everyone. In adversity enjoyment can still be found, if you can play your cards right. An OoC statement that simplifies the actions I would take into a single parenthetical remark does not do justice to the IC actions I would take.

-I've never really roleplayed with any of your characters, except between Travis Davis and Maximus Crane (Funnily enough), I will agree that those two characters did have some contention, but in my mind its entirely IC.

-I am not constantly hateful. I like to play both sides of the social spectrum. Many of my characters are ridiculously nice (At least from my OoC perspective), and contrary to your opinion I do not like pushing people around. It discomforts me greatly.

-I find the idea that "OOC he trolls most of his time" is a gross exaggeration. I will admit that I do have a spotted record, but I like to think my trolling days are long behind myself, and were mostly a result of becoming acclimated to SS13 roleplay.


Now, I'm not sure what the procedure for posting on head whitelists are, but as I said I felt the need to defend myself. I would rather not this develop into a drawn out argument. I find your quote to be moderately out of context, although as I said before I wrote it as a pretty severe simplification of my IC action anyways, so perhaps I am partly to blame for the light you put it in. If a case study on how I would react to various genetics issues ICly is something you would like to try, I am open to the idea.

I don’t want this to drag out and most of this is experiences from my charaters that I have with yours (we’ve had a lot more than crane and travis). I already said my primary thoughts however one thing I will point out. Letting someone do their job is /not/ pandering to everyone. If you don’t understand the difference between pandering to peoples random requests and letting someone do their job in relative comfort so they can enjoy the round then surely you don’t meet the qualifications for whitelist.

Sometimes it just happens that you are the person that is excluded. If I satisfied everyone ICly it would first be impossible, and second be pandering. There will come times where as a head of staff you must say no. I would love for everyone to have happy fun times from the get-go, but sometimes everyone will need to put work into having happy fun times. That is roleplay. An person intends for something, adversity is introduced, the person overcomes or succumbs to the adversity, and hopefully in the case of the latter they at least had fun in their fall. If it was a person intends for something, and then gets that something everytime, it wouldn't be that fun.


Since your complaint is clearly specifically about genetics, I will clarify my point.

ICly (Which is in this case a reflection of my OoC ideals, although not all IC decisions are), I do not see why geneticists need to take their powers out of the research department to develop their research. That is IC reasoning settled (Which is all I would need for a regular character, but for Heads its a bit different). Now we have to look at the OoC reasonings. OoCly, it would be EASY for me to just sign the damned form. However, I maintain the opinion that adversity is the principle part of roleplay and the enjoyment derived from it. If I were to sign off on the form, then the geneticist's round might proceed like this. He works to get all of his powers, does so fairly quickly, walks around with his powers and messes with some stuff, shows off his powers to his friends, maybe give powers to another person. The shift ends and he goes home." Notice that in that example I cut out all possible adversities. Its all happy fun times, right? Well, no, to me it sounds rather boring, especially if it is repeated every shift. I am sure that each shift has different adversities plugged into that cycle, which could very well result in entirely different outcomes. In this case, the adversity is applied at the very beginning. Just because it is early does not mean it is insurmountable. This also assumes that I am all of the executive power of all the heads condensed. In my opinion, Heads of Staff should keep in constant communication about their decisions.


Finally, I will state my overarching ideal on the matter; Heads of Staff have an obligation to make the round fun for players. Making it fun for players does not mean assenting to every decision a player makes. Disagreeing is just as valuable, if not more, than agreeing. Adversity is integral to roleplay, because roleplay requires conflict of some sort on some level. Sometimes it is better to say no, because saying 'no' introduces new paths not explored previously when you said 'yes'.


Now, I think I've made my opinion on this matter clearly enough, and if anyone else has questions about it I am open for discussion. As to you Furry, I accept your -1, and do not take it personally.
