  1. I have definitely read the entirety of the wiki - i know that the pilgrimage thing is no longer in play, and I'm aware of the many changes (for the better) you've made. I'll work on more back story for my second application, or for the sake of posterity, repost it here. Thank you for the feedback.
  2. Just a quick bump, there's been little review on this and it's been a few days. If I don't meet any of the qualifications I would definitely like to know now so I can rework whatever is in the app, but I have read all the lore and played a few rounds ingame. Of course, I do t play often enough to get many endorsements, but oh well . Bump!
  3. I've always had strong feeling on death and cloning. I believe that death is utterly necessary to make a good story. With cloning, however, the recently deceased are brought back to life at little to no cost other than 'oh, I'm a clone' which is thus ignored. However, this isn't a commentary on the need of cloning or its contribution to willy-nilly throwing away of one's character. I white liked tequila Joe's idea in that cloning machines shouldn't even be available to the station at first; it's an Outpost, not a frontier war fortress. The minigame sounds cool as well, if difficult to implement. Make it hard in whichever way is best or completely eliminate it; cloning is something that needs to go. It fosters a bad atmosphere and isn't very immersive, there's no way around that. As for those saying death shouldn't punish characters... Why not? Death is something to be avoided, real life and every other game included. Why should our game be different? Why do we need the constant coddling like we can't be asked to sit out a round and watch as a ghost for dying (fulfilling or not)? Just something to ponder on. Edit: on some more thoughts, people will complain surely: "but my character didn't have to die there, she's a Uber warrior Gene therapy super woman!!!" Obviously, this excuse doesn't hold up when presented to the staff, but the base remains. "My character should not die for x reasons and the antag was wrong for y z h reasons." Perhaps we should look at this from a more cynical standpoint? These people are complaining for dying in a video game, a high rp one at that I'd offer this advice to them: take care of your characters. Treat them like every round you could permadie, that the round won't end and you can retcon the mercenary shooting your face for charging him or the alien stabbing you in the stomach for trying to hit it with your fists. Beg for mercy. Avoid combat. Offer money or friends in exchange. Do what it takes to *survive* like every other animal, if not for good roleplay than to avoid having to watch the whole round as a ghost or be subjected to half an hour of tunnel vision and munted gameplay it overdone clone rp.
  4. Addition: It didn't include my preword, but I meant to say: Certainly! I'll just include the bits about the character, if you don't mind. I've read every little tidbit about the lore that the wiki has to offer, and of course came up with their main concept. I can't wait to finally be able to play them!
  5. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Although I have more inherent interest in the drone style play, the Unbound are unique in their own right. Being versatile, I can imagine several instances in which an Unbound may have to make decisions involving the life of others; how would it handle that? Would it carry on the mentality that it in itself is the most important, sacrificing those around it for the good of the many, like it would in its hive? How would it deal with coping the VR 'sickness', my own headcanon for VR-withdrawal? Interesting questions to pose that I'd love to answer ingame with deep and meaningful interactions with a character. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: As stated above, an Unbound is, for the most part, a self-thinking and independent being. Yet, it is subjected to absolute loyalty to their Hive, something that even in humanity is an alien premise. How a hive-minded individual would deal with such a thing is what I intent to touch on with both of my characters. Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Elatis Zo'ra Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Elatis stirred from his port, rubbing the back of its head, a dull throbbing present there. It knew when it desired the Paradise, but now was certainly not one of those times. Elatis had a creative ambition - it had heard some news circling the Network that they finally reached a planet, after so long. Dismissive at first, after constant self deliberation Elatis finally decided it was worth stirring himself out of the Paradise to make his own findings. When it awoke, however, it nearly instantly regretted it. The sad state of Titan Prime, the even sadder states of the refugee and slum camps that its kind were subjected to ... it, however, could not re-enter the Paradise without suitable knowledge and worth attained in the real world. As these thoughts rushed through its head, the interviewer spoke again: "Designation Elatis? I do believe I asked you a question." Elatis looked towards the interviewer, stirred from thought. It said, "Aeeh... Yesz, I do rekall such a quezshun ... yet my memoree is hawmed from lack of bee ooty." It clicked its mandibles once. "Please, repeat?" The Interviewer sighed. "What do you have to offer NanoTrasen and its associates in terms of skills and specialties. Your kind typically says, 'we are capable of learning anything you desire,' but I wish to know what *you* know." She offered a polite smile. After a brief period of introspection, Elatis replied: "Yaaess... Aeh do know a many thing about learn. I studies... tekno loogy, no?" It tilts its head. "Your lankuadge.. lacking of picture; let explain: I ... form thought, out aehve ... ima jaeh neshun. One may kall me, Schi eent ast, no?" The interviewer looked oddly towards Elatis, but nodded. "A scientist? Well, we are well aware of your species knack for electronics and computers, and bio-engineering. I'm sure we'll have an opening somewhere. Allow me to forward your application to corporate. Will you be working for credit or as an independent?" "Isz... independent, never kan troo lee be, but yaeees... that be I." What do you like about this character? Elatis is a scientist, one who thinks of things out of the box. Curious and gullible like a child, Elatis is fresh out of its VR paradise where it could ponder on the discoveries of its hive, create thought and share seminars with others of its kind. Finally exposed to the real world of science, it picked up a knack for it quickly... I can't wait to be able to express its world-devouring curiousity ingame. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Fairly good! A lot better than the last time I played. Notes: None!
  6. BYOND Key: Covert0ddity Character Names: Jericho Kaplan, Amanda Muris, Isilithai Uakis, Selvion Renworth, Daedalus. Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Some variation of brown and black. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I have! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Vaurca are my own little baby - I helped raise them to what they are now. At the time, it appeared to be a very rushed and doomed project due to my own ineptness and impatience, however, under the care of Jackboot and the lore team and without my pride-filled input, they have become something truly unique - something I'd love to be apart of. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, for one, a hive-like structure is something I've always desired to play out in a science-fiction standpoint. To act only for one's hive, to be truly belonging to someone or something else; it's a fascinating concept and one I'd love to explore more in-depth ingame. Character Name: Ka'Viax'Iortak Zo'ra Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs "It remembers." "It remembers being born. It remembers the pain, yet feels nothing towards itself." The man in the suit scratched at his chin, ogling the short, prawn-like being in front of it. The being, in kind, simply stared dumbly at the wall; with no sign of emotion. "A nearly perfect organism ... Hardy, diligent, passive, and damn hard to kill." The man chuckles to himself, knocking twice on the hardened head of the creature in front of him. "It's a pity they revert nearly all of them to mindlessness. I suppose they have their reasons." Turning to the other similar creature, addressing it: "This one will do. We'll employ it as a janitor." The other being nodded, simply walking from the room. The man turned back to the mindless creature, "You're doing a fine service. Earning credit for your hive with simply, hard work. A human quality, if ever there was one." He smiles at his self-made joke. "Your designation?" The creature stretched its mandibles, and without looking towards the suited man, spoke in very slow, nearly painfully so, Basic: "Bound knowned ... as ... Ka'...Viax'Iortak ... of ... Gloaree Hivhhee ... Zo'ra." The man smiles once more. "Oh yes, you'll do fine. We'll have you transferred to corporate within the week. And, please, do try to limit your speech. You're painful to talk to." What do you like about this character? Iortak is a drone! It doesn't have emotions, he doesn't want to please itself, and it sucks at talking. Why do I like it? Because even through all this this seemingly personality-lack, it has developed his own form of personality. I look forward to playing it on the station. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would give myself a favorable rating towards role-playing, and despite my long break from Aurora and SS13 in general, I've been roleplaying on other mediums and would say my skill has improved a large amount. Notes: None! I look forward to being able to play with ya'll as a bug, not just a human!
  7. To go even further: I'm a bad egg. I realize this. I hurt a lot of people in my time here with my dishonesty and deceit, and I won't attempt to hide it anymore. I feel horrible about what I've done, now, and at the time I would often question myself on why I did what I did, which I never truly found the answer for. I get that I can never, truly, be trusted with what I had been trusted before due to my own actions, and not that of others. I had a tendency to blame others for a lot of things that I did, and I will not do that now. It was my own insecurities, my own childish thinking that made me think that the server was a playground and the inhabitants were mine to do with my own whimsy, (As I believe skull put it rather correctly a long time ago.) It was sick, disturbing, and if I could, I never would have showed myself again. But I don't want to be that cowardly. I want to come back, show myself, and say, "Hey, everyone. This is what I've got. That okay with you?" And earn back the trust of the people I've hurt, earn back the days of headaches and deceit and digging, and painful arguments that I, directly or indirectly caused. I want it to all to be better, but that takes time. I want it to be clear that if the case is that I am unbanned, I am cooperative and expect heavy restrictions and monitoring from the moderators and admins.
  8. I see. I'm not even sure where to begin apologizing. I likely never can nor will be able to make amends for all that I did. The last appeal wasn't a lie, but I felt that I came into it feeling brash and deserving and I simply, didn't. I did a whole lot of things wrong, and even if I am a special case when it comes to punishment, have deserved my time away from the server and the people who play it. I am open and completely cooperative with whatever restrictions Skull and the rest of the admin team wants to place on me, if I am unbanned. If you want to discuss some things in private, Josh, I am open to a PM. I'd like to apologize to you personally. As for everything he talked about... I'm not sure where this puts me. Since I've had such an effect on the server and the people inhabiting it, I feel that perhaps I shouldn't have returned in the first place, for the last appeal or this one. I never, truly, realized that I had such a stigma about me. If the admins decide to decline this appeal, I will not make a fuss about it. But I would like to point out that the community has, from what I've read, changed quite a bit. And I still love the people here, the community that the server has fostered over two years. There's nothing like it, and I still want to be apart of it, even as just a player.
  9. That sounds perfectly reasonable to me. Thank you.
  10. That story seems 100% correct to me. (Except that the two players were, specifically NOT ERP'ing, and that I accused them of doing it. The way you put that made me glean that they where, I'd like to make it clear that they weren't and that it was me being an absolute douchebag.) As to touch on the chucklefuckery in the notes that Tishina added, that was exactly what it was. The details as to why exactly I did them are unclear, but based on the notes I'd say there were done out of spite towards everything going and and also chucklefuckery. I don't even recall the thing about Clucky, which goes to show how petty it was. And arming the rev as the captain is also something that escapes me - I'd go on to say that it was a bad move on my part and also likely an action committed out of spite? Either way it definitely deserved a restriction of some kind.
  11. Also, to comment on even my last appeal, I seemed passive aggressive and assuming of the people considering my appeal and those critiquing me. I hope I do not come across that way this time.
  12. I don't intend to throw blame around for any of the decisions that came about due to my actions. I feel that the moderators, even if they handled it in a slightly immature way, were expressing their opinions and how strong they felt about them on me. If you feel that it was the best decision at the time, then that is what you should have chosen. Since you did, I even respect you more for it. Overall, I am disappointed with myself that I'd get under enough people's skin that they would leave their responsibilities behind for simply letting someone back into the server.
  13. I'd disagree that I haven't betrayed the trust of the administration team and key people on the server, but I feel that, given the amount of time passed, it may be best to let sleeping dogs lie.
  14. Interesting. Well, I've got a lot of time on my hands and am only in one other ttrpg thing on roll20 so if you need players, let me know. Is there a GM?
  15. I did some more reading on it, and it looks pretty good. Is it more ttrpg or just a forum thing done between people?
  16. BYOND Key: Covert0ddity Total Ban Length: Permanent. Banning staff member's Key: General admin consensus, applied by Skull132 and Dea Tacita. Reason of Ban: A not-so-long story of me being an idiot. The full story is known by most members of the admin team of olde, but in basics: I used to be an admin here, I abused my privilege and duty as an administrator for about three months until someone called me out, when I acted out and blamed a close friend for something he did not do. Reason for Appeal: Hey guys. It's been another long while, huh? Well, I'm posting another appeal (It's been about six months, probably less, since my last time?) and although I would not blame the administration team for denying this appeal, I would appreciate, at the very least, the musings of it. I, unlike last time, do not justify anything that I did in my head. I know that it was a horrible act on my part, and the specifics honestly bring me to shame. But I do have the honor to attempt to reconcile my actions. I understand that key members of the administrator team would not want to see me in any position that I could possibly abuse, be it lore writer or manager of whitelists or what have you, so I'll ask none of that be granted. I'm perfectly fine with just starting with a clean slate, being able to play as a player and make a new name for myself. I do not want any of my previous whitelists, (Command or species) granted back unless I specifically apply for them. Nor do I want to have any official involvement with the Vaurca, unless the current managers (Lord Fowl) or the lore headmin wants to consult me on anything. I do not want to call upon any of my previous friends here to defend me or what have you, I want this to be a purely professional appeal. In my playtime on Aurora in the past, I do not believe I was a negative impact on the actual roleplay; I believe I contributed to it, however small-ways. I want to be able to do that again, and to interact with the new members of the community and be apart of something again. I've migrated through at least seven communities since I have been banned here and... nothing is quite the same. Be it the nostalgia, the lore, or the people who play here, on this specific server, but I find nothing compares. I would really do a lot to be here again. Thank you for reading this and considering my appeal. I look forward to your responses.
  17. I'm not really sure what the level of difference is now, because I'm not even permitted so much the grace as to observe the server. However, back when I was around, I felt that balance was key. Sitting in an office isn't fun, and if you have shortages, I think it's fine to fill in. Heads are just a [certain specialization of a department] + leadership skills + trust with valuable information + higher paycheck. In Science's case, I'm not exactly the most fluent. I main Sec/Com(Cap/HoP) and prefer those roles, RD's should act completely different than I would play or expect a HoS to act. With Security in mind, I would only really ever move out of the brig if I was requested or there was an issue I needed to see to. Or, if Sec wasn't communicating with me, I would watch myself. Otherwise, I coordinate, I ensure paperwork is being filed, etc. Well, I mean, I didn't do that then but if I'm ever unbanned I plan to do that. I've perfecting my Security skills on other servers.
  18. Out There is a wonderful little game, and has quite an amazing soundtrack. I often listen to HL2's soundtrack, music from the band Juno Reactor, Powerglove, Judge Bitch (Hot plates is damn good), Perturbator, (insert 80's style darksynth here.)
  19. The thing with heads of staff is that their duties are, or at least to a degree, skewed. They are not supposed to be God's of their department. They should be expected to know a little about most of the department so they may assist when needed, but their primary duty? Direction. Coordination. Making sure the people who are specialized in their fields are doing their job and doing it right. And, of course, training the new guys. Most research directors I saw just took it as a 'I'm just an uberscientist with my access ayyyy' instead of sitting in their office, writing discoveries, directing their scientists and making them fill out proper paperwork when needed, etc.
  20. Police in real life go through much more training and experience than I'm sure we expect from players of a 2d spess game. Generally a Bachelors (for some) is required/preferred in any given law enforcement agency. Or, military experience can count for that. And after those are met, a BMT-like police academy is attended for time, and THEN they are eligible for even being interviewed by specific agencies. Now, considering this is a game and most people playing it have little to no experience in the graces of law, we cannot realistically imprint the know-how and experience that some of us seem to want, and expect, from real officers here. Wwwwe can, however, put more people under the eyes of their peers. If someone's regularly shit, then we impose secban. I'm not sure how it is now, but when I was an admin I was (and other admins) were less inclined to deal out jobbans for whatever reason, being they knew the player they were banning personally or that they felt that banning someone from specific job would be less useful than a general ban or something - I don't really remember. Alternatively, a very light 3-4 question sec whitelist with someone active handling them so it doesn't take a month for someone to be processed through the works.
  21. Hyposprays are versatile injection tools. They've been largely outdone by autinjectors, imo, but still have their uses. They can hold up to 30-50units, iirc, and inject instantly through all clothing and hardsuits. they look like little injection guns.
  22. I'd actually rather getting in sooner than later, but ah. Ban issues. It's alright though, I understand that things take time.
  23. Not exactly back yet, but bluh. Working on it.
  24. Yes, they're originally designed to be able to edit their color but I'm not sure the .dmi work that goes into it. I'm no coder or spriter.
  25. Oki doke, then. I'll sit tight. Thank you all for considering me, at the very least, and not just immediately dismissing me.
