How long have you been playing on Aurora?: ~2 months

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I've invested lots of time in SS13 and generally find rounds to run smoother when there are heads of staff. A lot of RP opportunities are missed when heads are missing.

Why did you come to Aurora?: I like RP and I like how Aurora handles it.

Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes I have.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:

In one word, immersion. Roleplay is about taking on the role of your character as much as possible to create an immersive experience. I think a lot of people confuse roleplay as "What would I do in this situation in real life" instead of "What would MY CHARACTER do in this situation?" It's difficult to translate real world pain and fear in a game, but that is part of what roleplay is really about. People don't commit crimes because of the real-world consequences. In games, we typically lose the fear of the consequences because the consequences are minimal. Overcoming this dis-association is what roleplay is really about.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

I think the main OOC role of a Head of Staff is to keep the pace of the game going in an interesting manner. They're not there to be super heroes or dictators. So, if the balance of the game is depending on the HOS and Captain in a nuclear raid, it's partially their responsibility to keep the RP going in non-meta way. At the start of the round, the heads may be aware of the current gamemode due to the voting system. This is something that should NOT influence their decisions in game and still rely on communication between departments and staff to keep the game interesting.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

I think the biggest OOC responsibility of whitelisted players is to maintain stability. Without reiterating too much on my previous response, I think it's important to include all players to ensure a balanced and fair game. Having favorites and excluding individuals is NOT ideal. I also think it's their duty to mentor those (time permitting) that are new or are seeking help. Being part of a supportive community is what brings people back.

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):

I was born on Mars in 2425 and my father abandoned my mother and I shortly after. I believe it was due to the pressure it put on him of my mother's illness. She died when I was 7 and I was put in an orphanage shortly after. I joined the Sol Alliance marines at the age of 18 and worked my way to Master Sergeant over the next 14 years. During this time, I've had my share of battle and exploration. I've fought more battles during the lawless frontier defending a political party hundreds of thousands of miles away. I decided to retire recently after seeing a fellow marine go crazy from the stresses of space and kill an entire squad before being taken down. That was the final straw for me and I decided to take on a position with Nanotrasen. Due to my extensive military background, they promised me a position on a security team on a remote space station. We'll see if it they keep their promise. It seems the perfect setting for a quiet retirement...

I'm a fair built, tall man. Hair grooming is a nuisance so I simply shave it all of with the exception of my beard. Since I'm typically wearing a cap, not having hair makes my day much easier. People have told me I have authoritative mannerisms and look as if I'm always contemplating my next move carefully.

What do you like about this character?:

He's set up well for a position in security. Though his history isn't too defined to remember, it's simple enough to have lots of RP opportunity. His history reminds me of Bean from Ender's Shadow but his personality is more like Ender in that he's more militaristic in his genius.

What do you dislike about this character?:

His authoritative nature and bluntness tend to turn people away. He's not the most welcoming so forming relationships is difficult. And he's bald...

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?:

His background and experience with the military is well suited for a leadership position. He's been part of an organization long enough to know how to handle himself in any role, but not too smart for his own good.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?:

On a scale of 1-10, I'd give myself an 8. I feel the appropriate depth of RP is dependent on what's going at the time. If we're in the middle of searching the area for a possible intruder, it's hard for me to get engrossed in your character's lore and it's sometimes reflected. In all honesty, I also sometimes find it difficult to be immersed in less believable backgrounds. Though I do tend to go with the other person on their 104 year old ex-general of the military / CEO of Nanotrasen that has killed more aliens than there are aliens alive today, I still find it difficult to tie that into a believable and immersive scenario.

Hmm... I don't really know your roleplay ability as you always have a random character. Because of that I am not sure if I would be able to +1 or -1 you. I have a suggestion that may get your more support. I think you should just create a single character and put his name on your list so we have a character to judge your roleplay off of. But until I can see how well you can handle yourself, I am going to not give this application a vote.
