Krowstorm's Head of Staff Application

Posted (edited)

BYOND key: Krowstorm

Character names: Kane Benford, Atticus Hansworth, Kaium Salis, Mike Shaw, Jonathan Smith, a few other names in the past I cannot recall. Is it possible for a mod or admin to possibly pull some up and list them for me? Mainly Kane, though.

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I've played on and off throughout the past half-year to a year, but I've recently started playing a little more "full-time" in the last two weeks or so, and now I'm starting to play more than just a round a day if I have the time to manage it. A lot of this play-time was achieved on my other BYOND keys, Arcticfrenchie and Frenchchef, but since I used temporary e-mails I couldn't recover them and had to make a new one not long ago.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I'm eager to play a Head of Staff role as I believe it'll let me branch out into more commanding role-play, which I believe would be a change of pace and rather exciting to participate in. While I get to enjoy myself further and play a new set of roles, I'll also be able to try and improve the role-play quality of people around me that are being commanded, which maybe can lead to a really nice round-enviroment for the department that I'm in.

Why did you come to Aurora?: To role-play! I've been playing SS13 since about 2011 or so now, mostly on more action-paced servers such as Goon but as I have participated in role-playing in a lot of various games since about 2008, I decided to try out the role-playing community on SS13 and see how it would go. It turns out that I really enjoy it, and it's hooked me into playing a lot more now as it's a really great experience.

Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Absolutely, I've read head-to-toe on the guides of the three roles that I may be interested in playing.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Role-play is about playing and portraying a character that isn't your own in the best way you can, and you attempt to stay true to the character and act as they would, not as you would. It's similar to story-telling, but you only control one element of the story, but you still have a big part in participating and writing the story itself. This means you get to clash and bond with other personalities and characters that people have created, and it really creates a fascinating enviroment.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Heads of Staff are the ones that lead their department and strive to keep them in line so they can "do their duty", and it really varies from each department to department. You may be keeping the entire station safe, guiding a team of medical doctors to help keep people alive on the station, or you may be coordinating people to research different things aboard the station, which is the designated directive of the station in the first place. Besides keeping them in line, though, you also strive to make their experience and the experiences of the ones that interact with them a very pleasant and fun one.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: In a way, white-listed players should act as a high standard or a role-model that other players don't necessarily need to follow, but perhaps they can take tips or facts away from them that they can use to improve themselves and their role-play in the present or future. They also serve to help better the story-telling and quality and fun-factor of the role-play occurring on a round basis, which even better yet helps them serve as role-models to those around them.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Kane Benford

Character age: 53.

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):

A human male hailing from Mars, he found himself growing up planet-side not far from Olympia, where he grew into an impoverished family. He had a few run-in with the law in these younger years, and some-where along the line he found a role-model in one of the few local security officers. This man acted as his impromptu mentor, and he managed to learn a lot from him, as well as gaining the inspiration to later in his life to work as a security-officer for Nanotransen. With hard-work and dedication, he managed to earn his way into cadet-academy once he reached eighteen.

Dedication and hard-work got him through the academy, and he quickly branched out into minor work for Nanotransen aboard a few small transport shuttles before being transfered over to a medium-class freighter and research vessel that was studying clusters in a nearby sector. He took this job and worked hard at it to improve and become a better officer, finding peace with the idea that he was a good-guy and enforcing the law of the galaxy as he protected the ship. Years trickled by, and around 15-16 years of laborious and dull work, he began studying management on the side and completed a course that allowed him to work on a prison vessel as one of the wardens, where he learned the skills that would later become the core of his time as a warden for the Aurora.

The present is here at last, and he finds himself on the Aurora as security and occasionally as a warden, but in his time he has been working with courses on the side that may allow him to finally branch out into command, which seemingly is where his destiny lays.

What do you like about this character?: The age and loyalty factor makes a very interesting but weathered character that's seen a lot in the past, and an older age allows a different insight into the galaxy and the events that unfold onboard the Aurora. It also lets me work with a character that is quite loyal to the company that has paid him for the longest of times, but even he sometimes struggles with the guilt of seeing how atrocious the company can act in certain times.

What do you dislike about this character?: Loyalty! Sometimes over-bearing loyalty can be very strange and lead to some disdain by other people, but even then, loyalty is the core of a good officer. It leads to interesting role-play though, as loyalty and the evil acts of the corporation he works for definitely leads to some really interesting role-play that explores the conscious

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: The experience and loyalty to Nanotransen makes for a character that knows what he's doing, and makes for a character that is willing to lay down a lot of things, such as his health and time in order to make the company succeed. His experience also allows him the knowledge of how people think and how to react in a lot of different situations, which is important if he's to guide his department and possibly crew to success.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I firmly believe that it's around an 8, because I've got a lot of experience under my belt and I believe I handle a lot of situations pretty well, while balancing a bit of action into my role-play.

Extra notes: I made this a little bit earlier than I was intending too, but I see sometimes that head roles are vacant, and sometimes this is in bad times. An example was a previous nuclear round where suddenly, armed intruders stormed the bridge and had taken it over! The issue was that we had nobody able to access the bridge until the HoS happened to un-cyro, which was pretty scary to deal with, but we managed to overcome it and win the round. Thank you for reading.

Your app has the look, but does it have the touch? Well I don't know but others might. You can post a link to this app once per round in OOC chat.

I haven't really had the opportunity to roleplay with Kane, but this seems like a good app. +1 from me.

While I have only lurked on the forum until it suited my purposes, this was adequate reason to register. I have RP'd with Krowstorm on several of his/her characters, and this seems to me exactly like the sort of person who should have a whitelist for the senior positions. He/she knows how to hit the notes IC, and isn't too bad a person to talk to, either!

+1 from the silly newb

If I am correct, Kane helped Calhoun take care of Amnesty Lund (My IAA) after she was attacked twice in the same shift, fun to roleplay with and from what I've observed, competent. +1

I have roleplayed a few times with some of Krowstorm's characters. At first I wasn't sure about Mike Shaw but after a few more interactions, I would say that Krowstorm is a good enough RPer and will do a good job as a Head of Staff.

Kane Benford has been in multiple rounds with some of my characters. I don't think anything bad comes to mind when I think of Benford. Definitely could fit the role of a Command member.
