Lucychan42
BYOND Key: Crazytoast42 Character Names: Aerianna Blackthorne Species you are applying to play: Tajara What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Ivory/Wheat Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yep~ http://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=Tajara Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: For starters, I'm quite interested in playing a race other than a human. I'm interested in just the raw fact and possibility that the experience will be different on some level simply from the fact of having both a different native language as well as various racial traits, stereotypes, and behaviors. From my understanding, the Tajara are seen as untrusted by many due to their history with warfare and terrorism. I'd be interested in having certain characters be untrustworthy or even passively afraid of my character. But not just for the racism or the racial differences. I feel it would be an entirely different history to get into. I've observed the Tajara and they all have their own quirks and interests and it's interesting to see how each different one interacts on a day to day basis. I feel it would be fun to contribute positively to this and have another factor and example of how Tajarans are. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: They speak their own language, Siik'Maas, they have a unique anatomy that has pros and cons, including claws for unarmed attacks, the inability to wear hard suits not specially tailored to their anatomy as well as shoes and gloves at all, better sight in darkness, resistance to cold but vulnerable to heat, and they're also penalized to not be able to take a position of captain. They all speak in third person, as well, and generally will only speak in first person with someone they deeply trust, such as a best friend or lover. Their culture is one of a fierce loyalty to people they respect or grow close to. Friendships are strong bonds that are seldom broken unless in dire situations, and their hardships against the nobility of their world makes them gritty and able to rise against oppression that would otherwise tear down on them. Character Name: Ta'Elaru Rosaria Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Ta'Elaru was her birthname, sired by Ja'kara and Masse'na on her home world of Adhomai. While there are those among her species who believe her upbringing to be unfortunate, she wholesomely is thankful to have been born under the rule of the People's Republic. She believed in it as the new hope for her race and the persistent growth of her homeworld. Most of her life was spent training her skills in the pursuit of engineering certification and technologies. She began at an early age of sixteen to begin delving into the trade of engineering and machinery. She started as an apprentice for an engineer, slowly working her way though the field and delving into formal studies of machinery and technology, working as a technician and dreaming of moving all the way to station mechanics, not finding any desire or love for civil engineering. As the years went by, she grew more worried about the state of her homeworld. The unrest, the rebellions, the civil war, it wouldn't be any place for her to be able to grow, to flourish. That only reinforced her desire to live among the stars, knowing that her life would be better had jumping from station to station, job to job until she found her calling. Once she reached the age of twenty, she began internships with Nanotrasen, seeking to be employed among their ranks as a station engineer. Her work was quick, she learned fast on the job, and her agile and small nature was useful for a multitude of engineering scenarios. Among those she worked with, she earned various nicknames, her favorite being "Ferret". This bizarre friendly racism soon becoming a tune she enjoyed as she worked among so many other races and personalities. No longer was she sheltered in her world of fear or strict manners; now, she was among a plethora of personalities and reactions that blended together in a wonderful, interesting way. Soon, after years of jumping along and finding new jobs, her qualifications met with seven years of aptitude in the field. She certainly performed as if she had, as well, shaving off a good two years of work and dedication that would have been devoted if she had not otherwise passed and succeeded as she had done. She was no prodigy or expert, but she met expectations and provided her knowledge in a way that was universally accepted as a benefit to her employers and coworkers. Soon, with her citizenship at Nanotrasen secured, her work credentials, and general approval, she set off again, seeking a permanent position at a station, eager to please even more exciting faces and to make her mark. Thoughts of home drifted through her mind, but never once was she deterred from her goal, loyal, perhaps even stubborn, but also talented. What do you like about this character? I'm most excited for being able to play a character that's so vastly unique from Aerianna that I'll truly be able to delve into a new personality. If I had just made another medic, it would've likely blended into the same routines. With Ta'Elaru, I can distance myself from regularity and routine and create a different pattern for me to follow, with discovering new things to do and performing new tasks, as well as playing out a character who responds not only to new situations, but in new ways. As well, I'm most excited to play her to try and establish a new sort of general concept. Aerianna can get emotional quickly and reacts to situations in a very persistent way, not straying once she's concluded she has a solution to her distress. What I'm excited for with Ta'Elaru is to go a different route. Perhaps her persistence will be similar so that she may tend to her duties, but perhaps she will listen to others or be more prone to escaping or avoiding a situation outright rather than amending it. I'm excited for a chance to do something, well, new~ How would you rate your role-playing ability? Rather high. I've been roleplaying for the better part of a decade now over a multitude of mediums and I have experience with playing a variety of characters in a variety of settings. With this new character, I'm hoping and desiring that I can devote a time and love into her that will allow her to blossom into another unique personality. An issue I've always had is a character not being strong enough or desirable enough to make them unique, and I always drift to my main loves. With Ta'Elaru, I hope to create another break from that pattern. Link to comment
Nikov
I find it heartening to see a whitelist application that focuses on creating a character unique from a normal human for purely behavioral reasons, and on creating a character that breaks totally with the standard of the player's prior character. I think it bodes well to see roleplaying an alien for the sake of creating new characters and exploring different personalities and cultures, rather than mechanical advantages. That aside, I don't want to see another damned Tajii wandering around Engineering, getting her tail stuck in airlocks, getting her hair goddamn everywhere, and generally being a complete furry waste of time. The last Tajii I worked with damn near punctured my suit with those claws. And she'll ruin gloves! Besides, this is a man's job. Its bad enough they're letting human women run around the reactor room getting irradiated for a case of the funny-looking-children's. But hell Nanotrasen can't resist shaving a few dollars off an Engineer's pay scale... Link to comment
Arvak Morekborn
Having only been here for a few days, Crazytoast has already impressed me with their role-playing ability. I feel genuine reactions and behaviours put into the interactions I've had with their character, and every moment of interaction with them thus far has been a pleasure. I would 100% support this whitelist, especially after seeing the general dedication Crazytoast has to role play, along with their ability to make it a pleasant experience. Link to comment

But hell Nanotrasen can't resist shaving a few dollars off an Engineer's pay scale... Heh. Trust me, I've spent the past two days just tearing through the guides for engineering, from Atmos Tech, to setting up the supermatter, to construction, and even advanced construction. Amusingly, it's as much studying as I would do for a class. My brain hurts a little but I can safely say I could do a lot of engineering stuff and understand my racial disadvantage that she'll probably be a burnt kitty if she tried to set up or amend wiring. But she'd be perfect for Atmos, Supermatter (so long as she doesn't need the mag boots), and any non-electrical projects. Perhaps she could wear a soft suit constantly to prevent her hair from getting everywhere. I assume most of the response is an IC joke anyways, but I felt like assuring engineering folk I've done my homework Link to comment
Nikov
It is an IC joke. I'd be happy to train you. Link to comment
Nanako
Hiii I hope you'll still play aerianna sometime, i really like having you around medical. i don't think i've gotten along with anyone so quickly before I have an engineering character and it'd be fun to play with you there, too. I'd rate my engineering knowledge somewhere around journeyman now, but maybe its enough to help. i specialise more in electrics though An atmospherics specialist would be interesting, there's not many of those around. You might also like to know that engineering is pretty light on the paperwork. There's plenty they should be doing, but most chief engineers honestly don't give a damn and won't bother with it unless forced to. Definite +1 from me Link to comment
