Sol Alliance Arms Contest

 

With the defection of a Sol Fleet, the rise of the Hegemony and the constant pirate/raider attacks, Sol Alliance has found itself threatened on all sides. The once large technological edge has seemingly been lost. As a result, the Sol Emergency Council (SEC) has decided to modernize Sol military and navy. They are looking for cheap, elegant and advanced solutions to existing problems, as well as anything out-of-the-box that will allow to reduce its expenses in manpower and credits. More efficient drives, ships, chemical weapons, prototype armor or simply better firearms, the scientists and analysts are open to any creative ideas and are willing to offer funding and information for their development and production.


Due to the nature of Sol's request, all accepted designs and their countermeasures are solely for Alliances use, and any attempt to subvert this prerequisite will result in a lawsuit.


Rules of the competition:

  • The things you can submit are limited only to the question if or not the Sol Alliance can use them in future war efforts.
  • The party submitting can be any sort of legal person, regardless of species, or size. Be it independent designer, scientist, a corporation or a small arms company. Daughter companies to corporations can still submit independently, but must keep in mind the following rule.
  • The party submitting cannot have arms, ship or technological exchange deals, or belong/have affiliations to any blacklisted faction or hostile faction. This includes: Pirates and raiders, Izweski Hegemony, Federation of Rimward Systems, Hephaestus Industries, blacklisted PMCs. Sol Alliance has only ever been good at two things. War and espionage. If the corporation breaks this rule, Sol is likely to know. A lawsuit will follow. By accepting the agreement upon having your idea/design accepted, you are obligating yourself not to work for the aforementioned factions for the duration defined by the contract.
  • You can submit as a company or corporation of your own make. You are allowed to create any company you like, as long as it's a minor or insignificant player on the galactic stage.
  • You do not see what others have submitted, all submissions are private, between Sol and the party in question. Any backroom deals (co-operations) you decide to make are up to you as a party and a player.
  • Artwork and multiple posts are allowed, even encouraged.

Description and history of research:

Our company has discovered and developed a special magnetic alloy designed to destroy and penetrate large variety of plasteel alloys. Composing of iron, tungsten and a plasma matrix, the alloy is capable of taking in extreme heat and producing a short duration micro-magnetic field. While small, the field has a specific structure that allows it to twist and burn any magnetic metal in the vicinity. As the mass of the metal grows, its stability lowers. Heat either gets improperly distributed or it concentrates at the core of the metal, causing an unpredictable reaction and sometimes even an explosion explosion, as well as shrapnel. As such, it has been deemed unsuitable for larger projectiles. We focused on creating ammunition for small arms. Further research showed that the reaction can draw plasma into it from surrounding alloys and environment, amplifying the reaction through an increased production of heat. As such, the effectiveness against problematic plasteel alloy is amplified as well.


During a prolonged period of work, we have produced the Plasmatic bullet. Relatively small in size, it can be fitted on a round of almost any caliber and fired with any means that do not exceed specific heat conversion to the bullet. Since the metal is inert and non-magnetic until extremely heated, it can also be fired using Gauss/Railgun weapon. The bullet itself will activate upon impact with most hard surfaces, producing a magnetic field that will twist the surface with spiral fields, creating an opening in the metal and allowing the tip of the bullet to pass. The tested depth of penetration for most widely used armor alloys is around 4.3 cm. For most plasteel alloys, it has shown an ability to penetrate up to 13.2 cm of alloy, an increase of 306 %. Due to the plasticity of organic bodies, the round has shown inability to activate on impact with muscle and flesh, but on impact with bones, such as a rib or a skull, has shown to either have it deflect or activate 15% of time. With Unathi, this chance is increased, due to increased bone hardness. Regardless, unless it activates, it functions as a regular bullet, still effective against unarmored personnel. Ceramic and kevlar armor has an increased effectiveness due to the weight of the bullet, but is still very likely to cause activation. The full effect of the reaction on organic body is still being tested, but preliminary results show that the field is capable of pulling iron out of blood cells and causing significant hemorrhage near the place of impact. The heat produced by the reaction is transformed into a magnetic force almost instantly and poses little threat of uncontrolled fire damage, but burn damage on organics is still significant if the depth of the armored metal is. The projected damage on activation with non-plastic synthetics has been rated nothing short of devastating.


The bullet itself is modular. It consists of the PFMA armor piercing lower part, and a custom tip. The piercing lower part has shown a habit to merge itself with the armor 83% of the time and stop upon impact .The tip, non-magnetic in nature, will be released from the bullet moments after the impact and will travel safely through the gap as it is formed. Once pass the armor, it will function as a regular bullet, causing damage equal to a small caliber bullet.


To fix this deficiency, we offer specialized tips that come included on the ammo. Our expertise on anesthetics has allowed us to develop extremely effective non-lethal means of incapacitating the target. Similar to tranquilizer darts, these poisons are guaranteed to paralyze most species that are receptive to nerve poisons in seconds. However, the universal type has shown to be less effective on Skrell and Unathi, so we offer specialized tips for all species except the newly discovered Vaurca and Dione. The poison can either be left to digestion, that should last an hour, depending on the species, or removed with an antidote.


To recap, in even less then ideal situations, our specialized ammo is capable of stopping even the largest Unathi raiders mid-charge dead in its track, as it will penetrate right through their breacher hardsuit and paralyze them in seconds. A most humane solution. If not, a magazine is capable of bringing down almost any threat and shred their armor into scrap.

Not necessarily intelligence, but the ability to siphon and transfer energy in an efficient manner, as well as detect threats to itself, and act accordingly. Sapience tests, however, have not yielded success. Inability to understand english, sign-language, or binary, even when transferred directly to hard-drive.

Description(s) and history of research:

Benven Interplanetary has been working on further advanced and additions to the line of Wrath defensive systems. Much like it’s predecessor, Damocles is based on high energy particle projection; using these particles to inflict significant damage at extreme range. Unlike the Wrath or Strike systems, however, recent advances of capacitor technology, pioneered by Benven Interplanetary, are utilised within the Damocles system to emit extremely focused electromagnetic pulses, along with particle beams of comparable strength to the Strike system. The extended range of these land-based devices make them extremely effective in an anti-aircraft and shuttle capacity; able to reliably impact on targets at ranges up to two hundred and twenty percent longer than conventional anti aircraft ballistics; due to the excessive speed of the pulse.

Such an advancement in this area of technology would provide an undeniable advantage to colonies or cities that are under aerial assault; such as through an Unathi raiding party.

However, this form of technology is notorious for it’s high energy consumption. We have rectified this weakness with the addition of two T701 power cells; which analysis and testing indicate are able to support ten minutes of continuous fire after being cut off from sufficient power supply.

These emplacements are measured as 10.02m per side, in a square design; with the turret itself resting four metres above the ground; with room for one operator, should the automatic targeting system malfunction.

Description(s) and history of research:

The VALWADD project represents our corporation's first foray into the world of munitions research and development. In creating this device, we have taken designs from multiple sources and significantly improved upon their reliability, safety, and destructive capability. Area denial munitions have been a staple of ground-based warfare ever since the First World War back on Earth, and have continually proved effective in deterring and routing enemy movements in nearly every ground-based conflict since. The VALWADD project is aimed at allowing area denial tactics and munitions to remain effective in the face of more advanced armor and shielding being deployed in combat.


With the VALWADD, we look to condense the roles and destructive capabilities of several different kinds of munitions into one device, that is able to adapt to any role required of it while in the field. We have made our devices capable of performing in anti-personnel, anti-materiel, and anti-armor roles, and they can be changed between these roles while in the field due to the microcomputers we have integrated into them, that can directly interface with standard wrist-mounted combat computers. The VALWADD has three detonation modes: Remote, Pressure, and Proximity. It can be cycled through these modes by allied forces, depending on the tactical needs of the moment. The devices possess an integrated IFF recognition system that links up with friendly combat computers and vehicle systems, which means that allied forces can safely maneuver through areas in which VALWADDs have been deployed, without fear of accidental detonations or mishaps. Once friendly forces are clear of the area, the VALWADD re-arms itself automatically. If a grid of VALWADDs is linked up to a central battlefield command system, then allied forces will be alerted when a device is detonated, or if enemy movement is detected.


The thick casing of the device is not actually a single piece of material, but rather tens of thousands of extremely tiny needles woven together (refer to attached image). These micro-needles are composed of a lightweight Plasma alloy that are superheated and propelled outward when the device is detonated. The primary explosive charge is a thermite-based liquid-state compound composite that we have dubbed CX-14. It is an extremely potent high explosive mixture, which by itself is capable of melting through Class 2 conventional armor plating. However, when it is used to superheat and propel the Plasma alloy micro-needles, its destructive potential is increased tenfold.


Tests show that the superheated Plasma alloy micro-needles are capable of penetrating Class 7 conventional armor plating, as well as GEN-12 reactive plating, and every single form of personal body armor in circulation. Tests have also shown that the detonation can overload combat energy shields of strengths up to 5 Renwicks, rendering personal energy shields utterly useless, and severely weakening the defenses of ultra-heavy combat vehicles.


With regards to defeating energy shields, we are currently developing another version of the VALWADD, the VALWASD (Variable Application Lightweight Anti-Shield Device) which employs tungsten micro-needles coated with Teranium. Preliminary tests show that while the Teranium-tungsten devices have significantly reduced penetrating power, they are still capable of punching through Class 4 conventional armor plating, and GEN-8 reactive plating, as well as still defeating all personal body armor in circulation. The main feature of the Teranium coated micro-needles, is that they have shown to be capable of completely overloading combat energy shields of up to 12 Renwicks, far greater a value than can be safely installed on even ultra-heavy ground combat vehicles. The Teranium-tungsten micro-needles have also been found to possess the added property of exploding violently after dispelling an energy shield, fulfilling a secondary anti-personnel role.


As we are still technically in the prototype stage of the VALWADD's development, there remain some challenges to overcome. As it stands, the production of a Plasma alloy VALWADD costs 3600% more than the production of conventional area denial munitions, and the Teranium VALWASD prototype has proven to be 7500% more expensive than a conventional counterpart. However, we are actively working to reduce production costs, and we hope that with additional resources, we could expedite the process, while ensuring that quality and safety are not sacrificed.

Title: Synthetically Induced Vaurca Corp Frenzy Equipment

Research on the 'VDC' (Current Working Name) antenna-harness, specially designed by Dr. Wahlquist and Roboticist [REDACTED] was created in a bid to make an experimental corp of Vaurca enhanced with a synthetic pheromone compound via the Vaurca's sensitive and responsive antenna to induce a mass, continuous frenzy that effectively make any squadron of unbound or bound Vaurca respond at the chemical layer of the newly-found, highly advanced pheromone and engage in response with a berserk-like state of mind, disregarding who or what they fight in a bid to erradicate whatever and whoever they see regardless of circumstance. This project was first inspired by the centuries old observation of Earth-bred common ants. These ants, when crushed and killed would release a pheromone that would effectively cause a frenzy of an entire colony to retaliate to the threat at hand. This was the basis for the experiments we thus carried out on top-level Vaurca prisoners scheduled for execution in accordance to The Gibson planetary law. In conjunction with the New Gibson government, the funding and construction of the i104-WL0 pheromone, and the i104-harness then went underway. Primary research on the i104-WL0 pheromone for the forced chemical reaction was conducted by Tjaden Wahlquist, while the design and implementation of the harness was blueprinted, and the prototype built by head roboticist [REDACTED].


The i104-WL0 had then finished production and experimenting commenced. The pheromone would be heavily condensed and liquidized into a small canister no larger than around four inches long (10.6 cm) and one inch wide (2.54 cm). The condensed, liquidized pheromone in pressurized canister even of this small a size has been proven to last effectively for the lifespan of any VDC unit it was applied to. The reason being that even in trace amounts, when the pheromone is applied via the i104-harness it will still be picked up at a neurological level by the Vaurca in which case it still educes the rage-like frenzy intended. It is speculated most VDC units will die in battle before their canister becomes even 1/4th empty, due to the care-free nature induced that would invoke a corpsman for this Vaurcan squad to ignore all cover and wounds and attack until he is physically unable. The pheromone naturally induces numbness to the Vaurca's senses, dulling all pain while in this rage state. Regardless of pain numbing, it is highly speculated that the units involved would likely ignore the pain.


Tests conducted in specialized fighting enclosures between prisoners has concluded the expected results; Vaurca inflicted with the i104-WL0 pheromone will not attack other members of their own hive, as their frenzy seems to act in a colony mentality. This means all future squadrons of the Vaurcan Death Corps will be comprised entirely of members from the same hive as to avoid all instances of friendly fire and ensure max efficiency.


Tests have concluded that this extremely potent pheromone can even override hive-commands in most bound Vaurca, as the chemical intensity of i04-WL0 proves too strong. This leaves the application of these types of squads to be used in, and be most effective in the most dire of circumstances where as the enemy is overrunning a position, an entire station or ship has been taken over by the enemy and the VDC must be sent in as they would be the only ones to accept the mortality rates of taking back the area, or activated as a defense measure should an entire fleet fall to the enemy. In the wrong hands this pheromone is useless, however without the i104-harness, as the harness enhances the pheromone by running it through a specially designed cycle that ensures maximum potency. Without this enhancer, tests have concluded that the pheromone can cause irritability in Vaurca that soon waivers with time.


Effectively, the i104-harnesses can be remotely activated and deactivated by a device controlled by a superior, a Vaurca leader of the same hive that will NOT be induced with the pheromone. It will be this squad leader's responsibility to remotely turn off the VDC units once their mission is complete, as to ensure they can re-board their mother ship and prepare for transfer.


Side-effects from pro-longed use of the I104-WL0 only appear in unbound Vaurca of a hive. These side-effects include minor mental instabilities, reduced reflexes and senses while not using i104-WL0 (Resuming use of the pheromone re-enhances such abilities.) and emotional numbness. Many unbound prisoners subjected to experiments have been reported to have some mood swings and general apathy, seemingly half-way reverting back to a bound state some how, but genetically being unable to achieve it. Bound on the other hand experience none of these side-effects, and only minor acute reflex problems have been reported when off of the pheromone.


The ethics of using such a method of combat regarding the forced frenzy and rage of the Vaurca wearing the i104-Harness has been questioned heavily by critics. These questions of ethics are put at bay in the way the compound is administered. The primary user of these helmets are Vaurca set for execution, much like those that were first experimented on prior. It is in this way we give them another chance at life, and ensure it is through their own volition and decision that they wish to sign the correct paperwork and go through the required training to become apart of the VDC. This same method has been tried and true in many a war fought for centuries, giving prisoners of war (Or in this case, just prisoners set for execution.) A chance to redeem themselves for what they have done through the valor of the corps. Above all else they are tested for mental competency. Most people on death row have the mental competency to join such a corp, with a slight error of margin of about 2% showing no remorse for what crimes they might have committed or not understanding why they are set for execution for the crimes they have committed, these inmates are deemed non-eligible for recruitment into the Vaurca Death Corps. Besides recruitment through criminal volunteers, regular Vaurca volunteers are also accepted and permitted if they are, much like the prisoners, deemed mentally fit to do so. The ethical misunderstandings of these inventions leading to the Corp have made the designer of the i104-harness, Roboticist [REDACTED] take their name off of this project, while still actively working on it.


In recapping:

The i104-WL0 Pheromone in conjunction with the i104-Harness induces a total frenzy-like state of Vaurca that can be harnessed by the forming of a Vaurca Death Corps to be used in last-ditch and emergency take-no-prisoner efforts to eradicate the enemy by enabling the remotely-controlled furiosity and frenzy of a squadron of same-hive Vaurca, ensuring many victories in 'any-means-necessary' situations.

Description: Item #201 is a programmable nano-mechanical entity capable of self-proliferation, self-assembly/organization, environmental adaptability, and intellectual ascension via stage-by-stage swarm coalescence. All Item #201 units possess an Artificial Neural Network-swarm based intelligence that can be programmed to follow a series or set of tasks via an exclusively designed short-range coding monitor. The default size of an Alpha-Stage (AS) unit is 10 nms in length. The cylindrical exoskeleton of an AS unit is composed of a metalloid compound that deflects harmful electromagnetic radiation, protecting the condensed carbon-nanotube circuits—in which compose the entirety of the central processor—from EMP oriented attacks. Atop the exoskeleton is an icosahedral “head” encasing several other components of an AS unit: Power distribution systems, nanoscopic subspace transmitter/receiver (communications array), and an adjustable kill switch for security/safety precautions. Protruding from the base of the exoskeleton are several pico-manipulators purposed for the replication and coalescence of separate units with the addition of flexible mobility.



Item #201's stage-by-stage ascension, learning protocols, and replication procedures are operated under an ANN merged with complex fractal and swarm-intelligence oriented algorithms. In adhering to the previous information, #201 units assemble themselves into instances that fundamentally aid in the completion of the assigned task(s) while producing the highest caliber of anatomical efficiency for the current surrounding environment. After the assigned task(s) have been completed, #201 will deactivate itself regardless of location or situation state. Fundamental Safety Protocols (FSP) prevent units from being activate until assigned a set task(s). The FSP also forces a unit to deactivate should its kill switch be tampered with or remotely triggered, disallows modifications to assigned task(s) and will deactivate any newly created instance possessing a set task(s) that differs from the original. In addition, all Post-AS units are named after the corresponding letter in the Greek Alphabet—the limit being Omega (unless stated otherwise).


history of research:

Item #201 is the byproduct of an attempt at fabricating a fully controllable synthetic duplicate of the dionaea species. To elaborate, their ability to gestalt into a superior being surpassing the physiological and intellectual limitations of the previous form was an ideal prospect for the construction of adaptable Von-neumann satellites. The project was a half-success; A synthetic diona was created, but could not be controlled for the diona had learned how to ‘lock’ its central processing center while bypassing core task commands. In response, we developed a simple-in-design synthetic viron which rendered the diona immobile. This viron, later renamed as Item #201, retains the same desired principles of dionaea biology (gestalt body and intellect) while exhibiting no base set instincts other than to replicate, via suitable organic or metallic materials, ascend in ken and anatomy, and above all, to complete the task(s) programmed within its CP.

Description and history of research:

The first of our recent foray into military and security weaponry, the "Chem-thrower" as our researchers have named it, is the very pinnacle of chemical based hand-held weaponry. After extensive research, beginning in 2442, we have improved and rebuilt the design to be as compact as possible while not sacrificing any of it's amazing pneumatic power. The main power of the weapon comes from it's chemicals, which are interchangeable with whatever a soldier may have on hand. Tests show that with the adjustable pilot light in place, the chem-thrower can still function well as a flame thrower with fuel ranging from Acetylene , to welder fuel, to even plasma gas. The Chem thrower has 2 intakes for gas. One is a small container mounted on the top of the chem thrower with a fitting to screw into. A secondary fitting is designed to have hose attached to it with the tank positioned onto the user's back. Both fittings use adjustable pressure screws so that the user is able to adjust how much of the chemical he wishes to use. Able to propel liquids up to 20 feet, the Chem-thrower is best used for propelling acidic/corrosive material, lit flammable material, and is recommended to be used on armoured targets without proper anti-armour chemical compounds.


Another useful part of the chem thrower is the intended chemical itself. A highly corrosive chemical compound dubbed FK-165. Named so by our leading scientist in the research division, James Skullard, it was designed in mind for usage on armour and structural plasteel plating. In field tests, it was able to melt through a steel wall with the time of 4 minutes, 37 seconds. In the second round of tests, it was used on armour commonly found through-out the galaxy. Codename SHAMASH: Security Heterochromatic Assault Machine, Advanced Series H

Type: Ranged laser combat weapon

Specs: A modular weapon, the SHAMASH is designed with four main objectives: to have a weapon WHERE, WHEN, WHAT and HOW units want it. It's function is actually very simple - because more powerful laser diodes are expensive and energy hungry, several (three on the SHAMASH; extendable in rails of 4) weaker laser diodes work together, focused by a constantly-dynamic array of lenses to produce anything from a small, automatic pistol to a laser rifle so powerful it will ignite steel. You heard us - not melt. Ignite*.

-WHERE: It's basic form-factor is a pistol - however the NERGAL system allows to easily transport extra systems and a method to mount them on the weapon, making for an extremely portable weapon.


-WHEN: New to the SHAMASH, a new type of teranium-alloy power cell gives the weapon extended life, no matter what configuration it finds itself on. And instead of these pesky integrated power cells, they are small and handy enough to be swapped in and out - just like a ballistic weapon!


-WHAT: As mentioned, the basic SHAMASH weapon is a pistol. However, for field operations - the NERGAL system allows for theoretically infinite expansion of the weapon - to an SMG format, to a rifle-sized weapon, to beyond. No more choosing!


-HOW: In addition to this, the SHAMASH system is designed to be used with inter-exchangeable modules, such as laser emitters of various frequencies and different focus lens arrays (including corundum and magnetic lenses). Because there is no better weapon, for a situation, than a weapon built for the situation. The SHAMASH itself features high customization potential - with a means for the soldiers to easily program which emitters fire when, and saving up to three configurations - so that if they need to, their machinegun can easily transition to a high-power rifle.


CODENAME NERGAL: Natural Extension Rail, General Attachment Latch

An essential companion to the SHAMASH, the NERGAL system is a simple, recursive frame that attaches either directly to the SHAMASH or to another NERGAL. The "rear" of the frame is equipped to attach any compatible stock, and the frame itself is capable of supporting up to four laser diodes and one automated focus array. So that you can construct your own rainbow of death*.

CODENAME SIN: Standard Interface, Neural

We know. Aiming is hard. Iron-sights can only do so much, and sensor suites are expensive. This is why Sharps-Maxim Military Initiatives present the SIN implant. Implanted in the same location as any other implant, it tracks the motion of the eye and sends target data to the SHAMASH, allowing it to perform adjustements of the focus to guarantee* that the weapon will hit. A deluxe model, with helmet included, adds a visual feedback layer that is precise enough to allow shooting without even aiming**!

CODENAME ISHTAR: Isochromatic Specialized Hafnium Trans-Amorphic Resonator Array


The ISHTAR is the pinnacle of focus technology. Glass melts. Corundum may evaporate. Diamond is not optically ideal. Magnetic fields take away power from the shot. The ISHTAR answers all of this. Using high-accuracy hafnium elements, the laser of your diodes can be focused to the required specifications with no concerns for heat, optics quirks or power requirements. Furthermore, it completely ignores the frequency - by carefully calibrating itself, it synchronizes the light from any diode - which means that any color is now equivalent, and that different wavelengths can be resonated in a way to maximize transfer of energy at the target.


CODENAME NABU: N-Gon Advanced Ballistics Upgrade

The simplest module, the NABU module is a module that can be inserted instead of the primary laser diode (which is aligned with the axis of fire, and at the base at the weapon). Extending it with it's barrels (which replace the focus arrays), it allows firing existing .38 ballistic cartridges with it, boosting it's power as it ablates part of the bullet with the laser diodes, reaching speeds that can penetrate any thickness of armor*.


Disclaimer: While Sharps-Maxim Military Initiatives can attest to NABU increasing bullet speeds by up to 120%, it does not attest in any way to any increase in penetrative power or in any capability of damaging armor in any way different than a normal .38 cartridge fired from the relevant barrel length would.


CODENAME TIAMAT: Triple-Interface Advanced Module - Augmented Tracking

A most valuable tool, the TIAMAT computer is an addon to the SHAMASH which comes with a sensor suite and a computer that synchronizes with the SIN in order to tag-and-track enemies even when not directly invisible, in order to give a firing solution to your men as soon as physically possible.



History

Starting with the XLWP (eXperimental Laser Weapon Prototype), a laser pistol designed to be built from the ground up, research was done into how to simplify the customization procedure without compromise for the potential. And so, after three years, the Advanced Series A saw the day. A clunky device, however - it saw several iterations, each one fixing minor issues with the product until the Series H came about - at which point the product was considered ready for the market, with a brand new power cell composition to bolster it's already impressive capabilities. The NERGAL was designed shortly thereafter, due the the glad disappointment that the basic design did not entice attention enough for other companies to design a bigger-format weapon of the same type.


Later on, due to unrelated research projects, the SIN, ISHTAR, NABU and TIAMAT were added to the repertoire with the blessings of the Kalashnikov Laboratory Division.
