Guest
Simply because another discussion addressed the point regarding the "all caps rage" phenomena as improper in terms of a grammatical standpoint. Even though using all caps for sentences sticks out better and garners more attention, it is actually seriously annoying, to the credit of Skull. So, instead, for those that actually use punctuation and grammar properly, I suggest that we embolden full sentences said via the say function (embolden should also work for radio comms) provided an exclamation mark is placed at the end. It catches attention just the same as all caps but it's much more clear it's intended to be "visually louder" in described audio than a simple "Hey, need help" would make. Yes, or yes? Say why. Mofo1995
So, essentially, just the same as it is in Lifeweb. I like the idea of this, and it might lead to more roleplay of: "Shut up! Quit yelling on comms!" A good way to make exclamations both more effective, and to make people rethink what exactly they want to exclaim. Link to comment
Guest
Indeed, for example, if you come across a situation where you're egging on a fight but you don't want to broadcast to everyone around you in an embarassing way, you'd go: Phoebe Essel says, "Fuck his ass, Fraser." rather than Phoebe Essel yells, "Fuck his ass, Fraser!" because otherwise that's embarassing as hell Link to comment
Nanako
No, definitely not, this is even worse in the opposite direction. It's a good idea to have some way to say things in bold, but not with the exclamation mark. We don't use the exclamation mark to shout Link to comment
DatBerry
Have it make text bold when you use two or more then Link to comment
Nanako
Have it make text bold when you use two or more then Doing anything based on exclamation marks is arbitrary and problematic. You're not going to find a quantity or arrangement of them that makes everyone happy. IT will cause some people to shout when they only meant to emphasize emotion, and it will cause some people to not shout when they wanted to. Here's a better idea, give the player direct and explicit control over when they want to shout; http://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6027 Link to comment

Asking people to exercise a basic understanding of the English language might be too much, I totally understand. If you are exclaiming or shouting, you are raising your voice to get the point across. In literature, you literally use a "!" in order to tell the reader that a certain sentence has more volume or depth than the sentences that are followed with a ".". Link to comment
