Arzion Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 There should be a special server in the Telecommunications satellite that governs all announcements, including Central Command, AI, and more. If it is deactivated, the announcements will not be able to be made. However, due to the importance of announcements, any person who wants to sabotage the server must adminhelp first.

Since all of coms is in one central compartment, wouldn't anyone just wanting to bomb coms have to ahelp then? I wouldn't mind an announcement server, especially as someone who likes to fuck with com filters a lot, but I'm not sure of how announcement code works or if it would need to be reconstructed to route it through a server.
nicemoreoften Posted August 23, 2016 Posted August 23, 2016 However, due to the importance of announcements, any person who wants to sabotage the server must adminhelp first. Why are announcements more important than anything else? All OOC things are done through admin announcements, and I say just make it required to adminhelp before comms sabotage at all or to not make it adminhelp required to sabotage.
Nanako Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 I disagree with this, antags disabling comms is imo not fun. communication is the most fundamental part of RP, and killing it does nothing good for our roleplay atmosphere. This is one of the many reasons i dislike malf AI mode, disabling comms is something they do constantly. I'd like to see a console up there that allows more communication, not less. Like allowing anyone to send announcements without authentication so antags can make their demands to the crew
Shadow Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Its not fun, but its needed sometimes, to prevent people from saying "Ops at arrivals!!11!" or "AI rogue!!1!" About the suggestion, I have no strong feelings either way.
Chaznoodles Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Fax machine server to offline fax machines when? So those pesky "haha you're fake fax says so" players can be stopped and actual antag roleplay can commence.
Mofo1995 Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 Fax machine server to offline fax machines when? So those pesky "haha you're fake fax says so" players can be stopped and actual antag roleplay can commence. This would be really interesting, I like it. Most CC announcements are just automated notices to remind people of policy which is often forgotten. Plus, central command is already linked to the stations through telecomms by a relay and by the emergency bluespace relay. If you go into T-comms and destroy only the bluespace emergency relay, you'll screw over majority of heads of staff when you kick off your antag shenanigans because they LOVE to send emergency messages instead of faxes. All in all, disabling announcements would not be nearly as effective as one would think, since back at CC we can't just announce things Willy nilly to help the crew, it would largely just prevent the automated announcements about in-coming problems. So you might get fun things like stealth blobs and surprise meteors. Having something on T-comms to destroy station made announcements doesn't really make sense. Presumably there's a PA system all over the station which head of staff request consoles are hooked up to and make their announcements when using it, rather than relaying all the way to T-comms and back. A redeeming feature in a suggestion to this suggestion is allowing antags to falsify CC announcements. If there was someway for antagonists (other than malf) to do this, it could make for some very interesting gimmicks.
