Ron Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Now, before you go all crazy, I suggest a trial run of this be done for like a week or so to see how it goes. I suggest cloning be removed or nerfed because there isn't a real sense of danger when "Oh, well I can just be cloned :D" or "The hostage can be cloned" though the latter has been addressed and has gotten better. Also, we have a 30 minute respawn timer, so it's not like "oh fuck Im out of the round forever now.". I feel that if cloning was removed people would be a lot more careful with their characters and it would be a bit more realistic.

ICly, cloning is pretty expensive, and antags can just threaten to behead or debrain their hostage to prevent cloning. Also, cloning is supposed to be fucking traumatic, and anyone saying 'lol lets jump into a situation that's basically just kms becos cloning exists yay!' should be reported to the administration or have a complaint levied against them.

PRove that they said that... You can't. Anyone can come up with dumb reasons to do something and get away it again and again. Also you can reattach heads and put brains in again. There is legit no reason for security to not rush in to a hostage situation if they can outgun the antags

Also, if someone is repeatedly getting away with shit for no good reason, again, make a player complaint. That shit shouldn't be happening.

No one is dumb enough (i'd hope) to admit to it in chat
Guest Complete Garbage Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 -SNIP- sorry that flew over your head, prove they thought that. No one is dumb enough (i'd hope) to admit to it in chat Wheather or not someone thinks something is irrelevant. If they're actually doing shit like jumping into situations with no apparent reasoning, then log it, preferably with screenshots to accompany, and ahelp or open a complaint.

Cloning has no effect because it only lasts 1 round because most people don't make it cannon. Which this is where the nerf part comes in. I say after 30 or so minutes of death, you can't be cloned anymore.

I say after 30 or so minutes of death, you can't be cloned anymore. Most of the time, IC deaths aren't character-canon because they're the direct result of antagonist actions. At any rate, would there be an IC explaination as to why bodies can't be cloned after 30 minutes? Genes don't expire, and unless stored in an open, hot, humid rainforest, there's no way the brain would start to rot that quickly. Imo, cloning is fine how it is, but I'd like to see what other people would think.
Guest Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 We had this discussion before. I do want to say, any resemblance of "the hostage can be cloned who cares" situations that have been cited since the inception of the first debate on this topic, have usually been without sufficient citation to really be considered an issue. Which basically just means that people are overblowing this as an existent problem and not considering that sometimes security has its issues together and can fathomably charge into hostage situations if they have a mapped out plan set in stages and priorities. Also, the "decapitate to deny cloning attempts in addition to stuffing the guy's head down a disposal unit to be crushed/spaced" is a really bad way to play, but, again, I don't see many people doing it because of how awful it is in terms of sportsmanship and practice. If anything, I see decapitations or headgoring as a result of heavy weapon overuse or an attempt by the antagonist to freak people out. Also, assuming people are out to make others suffer on the server rather than just attempting to have a good time themselves is really an unforgiving viewpoint towards other people. Come on, people aren't that bad.

I think it's a matter of minutes, in fact. So there's your IC explanation for not being able to clone past a certain point.
Guest Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 Mostly in reference to the OP, not you Complete Trash Disposal Unit.
Dreamix Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 "oh no dying is unfun" Assuming that the atmosphere of death and fragility of life is not generating any RP's. And first, brain rotting is kinda meh. If you're dead for 30 minutes, you probably wouldn't be cloned anyway. That, or you have already been cloned right after security got their valids. And second, AFAIK brain, and other organs (for transplantation, harvested from people) become unusable after some time if they're outside of a stasis bag or a fridge crate. Wouldn't hurt to add this to dead bodies.
Bedshaped Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 There are some good reasons to remove cloning, but you'd have to nerf bombs first or makes breaches harder to do; I think they're what kill people en masse the most. Probably phoron fires too. Removing cloning from the lore would lead to continuity problems. I don't think the good reasons to remove cloning outweigh the good reasons to keep it though.
