[Denied] ATLAS Storm Troop Detatchment

Type (e.g. Planet, Faction, System): Faction Addition

Founding/Settlement Date (if applicable): 2458 (possibly)

Region of Space: Sol

Controlled by (if not a faction): ATLAS

Other Snapshot information: well, tytos would have to discuss this to make it 100% official, since he created ATLAS. Basically, a paramilitary branch of ATLAS.

Long Description: The Sol National Union, had gained significant political power in Sol Aliance politics, especially during the last few years. After the crisis of 2457 in which ourea was ceded and a NanoTrasen ship was 'mysteriously' blown up, and with the president giving in to the hegemony, it was decided that a paramilitary wing must be added; although they failed to get into presidency and change the Alliance as they wished to, instead making a coalition with the more moderate GAIA. This has given ATLAS much power in Parliament and many seats in the senate. The need for this paramilitary wing was reinforced by the recent crisis in Biesel, with the UNITY 'terrorists' and Synthetic Liberation Front. Although the official Detatchment has not been made, the leaders of ATLAS agree that some sort of paramilitary wing must be made, whether it be in future years or recently. After the indigo crisis in which the SLF attacked the NSS Aurora, it was concretely set in stone. If such an installation as the NSS Aurora can be attacked, without Icarus detecting a thing, then it means that the synthetic terrorists are well equipped and trained; this also leads to another question. Is it time to create a Biesel National Union ?. The paranoia against IPCs is not misplaced, and hatred towards IPCs is prevelant in Biesel...is the time right ?

ATLAS is a foreign party in our setting because Tau Ceti is an independent system.

That aside,

If you wanted to start making a faction to impact the station and Biesel politics, and get people on-station involved while managing to be roleplay asslords without being self-antagonists, then you can just get your organization namedropped in the news or used in events in the future, like UNITY, the pro-synth organization now a key name in the synthetic arc.

I would be up for a Biesel ATLAS Party and Biesel Stormtrooper Wing that would impact Biesel and the station. but that would require news and possibly an event or so. Maybe an event where BNU (Biesel National Union/Biesel ATLAS) visit the station and advertise their political party ? something of that degree, perhaps. but, that requires ATLAS armbands which we don't have.

FYI Mendell City has at least two card carrying ATLAS party members on it's Council. One of them is a proper jackboot stopping one as well.

I'm going to deny this for a couple of reasons.

As mentioned above, ATLAS is a political party that shares a coalition with GAIA that jointly rules the Alliance.

This does not mean it is an opportunity for another Reich, however.

The current political climate surrounding the Alliance in politics is a rather tense and difficult subject to grasp in present company of other factions. Not many outsiders have nice things to say about the reputation of the Alliance, given its history of iron-handedness with its vassal colonies and cold attitude towards neighboring systems and their governments.

Paramilitary operations are generally monopolized by the inter-system private forces themselves. Primarily PMCs, which offer much more lucrative job security and insurance benefits upon consistent contracting with the organizations. Federal or political-founded PFs are nowhere to be seen outside of the Frontier nations, given the lack of PMC presence and active competition within the Frontier systems (excluding Eridani).

But when it comes down to it, the moment the Real Deal Private Military Dudes find out that ATLAS is attempting to form jackboot-stepping SS wannabes, the corporate combat veterans will start stepping and will roll over any semblance of a Storm Troop unit. Mostly because they paid attention in history class and would rather not have that sort of monster gain power again.

Practically speaking, the prospect of it is goofy. Its perceived reliability is goofy. They are unlikely to get anything done because the richer PMCs are already exploiting every lucrative contract opportunity already and their wealth will be spent in order to keep smaller up-and-comers down and kept from competing with the larger competition.

There's also the weakness of how a government cannot declare war on a PMC actively disrupting certain branches of operation (because it's not a hostile government, it's just a competing business no matter the perspective) and the only thing it can realistically do is attempt to indict high-level corporate seats to try and cost the company money and precious time.

I'm not of a mind to canonize this because it simply wouldn't work with how things are going.

Contact me if you have any concerns, I'll close this and move it. Consider it denied, but don't be discouraged, we are always open to new lore ideas and sometimes we need to weed out some ideas that don't fit well with the wholesale product, it's just part of the process.
