Arzion Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 Just that simple. Add EMP effects to loyalty implants. Considering how this suggestion post won't be long due to its simplicity, it just works like this : Captain has loyalty implant, he gets affected by EMP, loyalty implant switches loyalty to a different thing. Why not have the Captain switch his loyalty from mega-corporation Nanotrasen to the Bartender's pet, Pun Pun?
Skull132 Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 Don't they already simply melt in the brain when EMP-d? With a great message to the user?
Bokaza Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 From a mechanical point of view, once this happens, and it will happen often due to sec misfires, antag EMP or simply science fuckups, there is no way to fix it other than remove and implant a new one. A complex procedure to fix something that can be ohh very so easily an unavoidable accident. From a lore and logic point of view, it makes sense that implants are EMP-resistant, especially ones mentioned above. It would be too much of a health hazard if they were so badly designed enough to fail under such trivial circumstance. They shouldn't melt and fail like that. It could be fun, though, but only if it happens very rarely. Also, make synthetic hearts EMP immune. It's an idiotic oversight. Modern experimental synthetic heart designs aren't even electronic in nature, just mechanic.
Guest Complete Garbage Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 Don't they already simply melt in the brain when EMP-d? With a great message to the user? Nope. Been HoS on multiple occasions, been affected by ION/ EMP, and the LI was just fine. I assume Loyalty implants are EMP-protected to prevent accidental loyalty to station pets, but even if they weren't, all that would realistically happen to an EMP'd LI is that it would just stop working, and maybe cause just a little bit of brain damage.
Skull132 Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 I think having them melt/short circuit, with a user message of, "You feel your brain boiling up inside your skull!" would be the best. And obviously rendering it defunct after that.

EMPs aren't common. Further, in order to actually reap any major benefit from it, you'd need to be within the considerable blast radius of one.

The armory has a box of EMP grenades(diameter 14 tiles) and an ION rifle (diameter 3 tiles). Antags with EMP grenades(or very easy access to them,) traitors, Wizards, cultists(it's a rune, but same affect iirc,) mercs, heisters(1/3 chance of their random grenade being an EMP one iirc,) ninja. Heisters and mercs also get ION rifles, and EMP use is considerably likely in malf. The odds of an antag going after a Captain or HoS with and EMP will skyrocket if this is implemented, and additionally, Vira Taryk won't be able to wantonly throw around EMP grenades anymore. Love you, Delta.
Nikov Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Adopt the loyalty implant laws I previously proposed, then on an EMP, scramble their hierarchy or delete random lines.
