Zundy
BYOND Key: Zundy Character Names: Andrew Grimes, Mellis Laurenzi, Ella Smith, Pholle Damistraad and Vidisal Konovkaa. Species you are applying to play:Unathi. What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Orange-brown. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Ohhh yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Originally I wanted to play an IPC commissioned to work on Moghes after the Contact War (I spoke to kekers a while ago about it) but whilst at work listening to "Ion Storm" from the C&C Tiberium Sun soundtrack I imagined two Unathi scientists looking over a desolated Unathi city during an Ion Storm caused by particles of radioactive heavy elements in the clouds and thought about what they would feel (hell, what I would feel) as they digested what had once been and what now was thanks to the Contact War. This character was born from that. I've always liked the 'Unathi twist' as a species, it sort of reminds me of the Imperium of Man from Warhammer 40k; a world of largely uneducated, spiritual peasants living amongst desolate landscapes (of their own ignorant making) and advanced technology along with all the culture clashes that entails. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: A difficult question as the lore allows for humans to be played in pretty much whatever way you so wish. I'd simply say that the Unathi require a more informed approach with the actual 'set in stone' lore taking a much more active influence in the how a player should direct their character in action and in detail, that is to say how a character should act in game and what the characters background and traits should be. In the case of Unathi specifically, a more spiritual, honour based character interaction with an eye for the lore expectations. Character Name: Iskanz Sal'Dans Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs I'm hoping this will be an ok "simplistic" approach to an otherwise wall-o-text. H-here i go. --- "I was trying to get a reading on my analyzer as the Ion Storm rocked the skies and he told me to stop. "Look" he said, "just look." So buried in my device was I that he had to grasp the crest of my helm and thrust my head up. I can tell you there a few times in my life that I have felt such emotion as I did then, watching lighting lash the ruined spires of the Bronze Spirit Cathedral(Th'akh) and the razor sand scour the desert that was once a market place. What I thought where rocky hills in the glaring Ion flashes were now derelict homesteads, the valley in the centre of the desert now showed it's true form, that of an atomic crater. We were looking over the ruins of a city. Sa'drath he said as we watched. The Flower City. I remember going there as a boy with my father to purchase lumber for the clan as it was in the centre of a temperate forest. It was one of the first cities taken in the exchange, which meant none of the citizens would have made it to safety. It was city of graves. Our shared dishonour as a species stared back at me accusingly, and I rattled like a child, we all did. Imagine that, Warrior Priests mourning like welps on the brown sands. I don't feel any dishonour in that. If there was ever a time to grieve, to feel guilt, that was the time. The spirits of that place watch over me even now." - Excerpt from Iskanz Sal'Dans Open Blog, Translated into Sol-Common. Iskanz Sal'Dans (born 2412) was raised as a boy into the Sk'akh priesthood under The Warrior alongside many sons of the clan. His clan (Sal'Dans*) was allied to the Izweski Hegemony during the contact wars and lost its original holdings to fallout from the atomic exchange. After the war Iskanz, along with his priest mentor joined in the various reclamation projects into the wasteland. The projects were started to act as both a recovery exercise to retrieve lost objects of value (art, tech etc) from the wates and also research and gauge resources and time required to recover the actual lands themselves. Both tasks were depressing failures with whole cultures of lore lost and the land itself beyond any conventional means of saving in any useful amount of time. It was during this time he both took up the philosophy of Zzann** and lost is mentor to wasteland creatures. As a Unathi "academic" he is pushing for a removal of "alien cultural elements and technologies" whilst pushing for a resurgence of Unathi born technology. He has chosen to work as a scientist with Nanostrasen to further his own goals regarding this. Iskanz Sal'Dans actually keeps an academic "blog" which he updates with his own thoughts, feelings and ideas regularly. Iskanz is married with a clutch of children and grandchildren. He is 46 years old. *Clan Sal'Dans is based in an Mansion within Baandr. The clan used to own an estate and a few holdings (town of Zzash'ka) in what is now the Eastern Wasteland. The Mansion was granted to them by high ranking Izweski Clan Lords as a gift for service in the Contact War. Most first born sons have moved away from life as Warriors (though they still train) and into commerce as the clan itself is poor, second sons and beyond still live the classic warrior Unathi lifestyle. It currently survives on war bounties gathered by the clansmen during the Contact War and that of course is rapidly dwindling. The clan is respected (it's clansmen fought valiantly during the Contact Wars) but is known to be a shadow (asset wise and levy wise) of its former self. The clan still has a de jure claim to its former holdings however the land is currently irradiated sandy wastes so won't be reclaimed anytime soon. **Sassan is a modern school of Unathi philosophy as practiced by Sassanites. It's the belief that Unathi technology is the purest form of technology (for the Unathi) and that technological progression was booming before contact with other alien species in which it became corrupted and feared. Sassanites believe that the Unathi must turn their backs on "unwholesome alien practices" and turn inwards to usher in a new golden age of Unathi progress. Controversially, though they abhor what they call "Abominable Intelligence" (purely synthetic life such as positronic brains and free synthetics etc), they believe there is a place in Unathi society for Unathi created augmentics and androids which harness Unathi brains. In the case of augments they believe if it were not for the insidious touch of alien hands the Unathi would already use these technologies themselves and indeed, are foolish to condemn their best warriors to live as cripples when their limbs could easily be replaced by sacred, Unathi creations. Regarding androids, they believe the criminal and the Guwan may find a way in which to redeem themselves by offering their lives up to work as servants for Sinta'Unathi. What do you like about this character? Like say, a man who lived through the end of Imperial Japan, I enjoy the fact that he's a person who has lived through almost three worlds; an almost idyllic pre-alien contact Unathi world as a boy where as far as he's concerned everything was sunshine and rainbows, through a war which shook the very foundations on what it means to be a Unathi and into a new, frightening yet hopeful era in which the stars and a whole wealth of opportunities are now open to the Unathi. I wanted to mix things up a bit with a Unathi scientist but also throw in a bit of controversy to get my teeth stuck into as a player. I've gone for the ex-warrior priest angle for two reasons. Number one is to build a bit of respect for the character which would allow him to hold the controversial views he does and not be immediately dismissed as a degenerate fool (at least not by all) and two, because in my mind, a world such as Moghes where literal shamanistic practices still take place and people get dragged away for what can only be described as "witch craft", it would make sense for the priest class to be the scholars, academics and scientists. This in itself was inspired by the Christian monks of the dark ages who could get away with being scientists purely because they had the church backing them up. I can imagine having tonnes of fun with this character with his racist old warrior vibe, juxtaposed with his academic pro-synth yet anti-synth vibe and I can almost taste the various roleplay scenarios he'll drag others into. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7/10. I believe I know my stuff in general what with GM'ing various PnP games and online servers but there's always room for continual improvement. I tend to like to watch others play and then take what I like from them and tailor it to my own style. Most of the guys and gals on this server are 10/10 role-players to be honest so give me lots of ideas to play with. Notes: I educated-ly guessed names so if I dun goofed please feel free to throw me under a bus. If you want to reach me directly then forum PMs or discord PMs will get me. Fire and Glory
The story seems fairly solid and I quite like the character, not to mention it's not particularly offending to my sense of belief, I can believe that a Unathi could end up like this, for the most part. The fact that he's working for NT rattles odd, though, generally if you want to further genuine Unathi technology you wouldn't go on a human station doing human research for humans, unless he was planning on sharing his own findings back home which I believe NT might have problems with, along with the Tau-Ceti loyalty pledge harassing with fines unless it was signed, which'd be its own set of problems. I, , hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and service to any foreign leader, state, or star system, of whom or which I have before been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Biesel. I take this oath without reservation and with all conviction. That's pretty heavy if you are sincere. I don't have heavy experience with Zundy himself but I believe he has the commitment to play a race, and would look forward to seeing Sal'dans on the station. The names are fine except for Zzann which sounds like a fuckin' Vaurca thing Link to comment
Zundy
The joining NT is a means to an end. It wasn't a slapdash decision on Sal'Dans's part but a calculated necessity. He can't carry out research into the fields he desires as they are all but banned on Moghes, something he sees as very backward and very 'traditionalist'. He didn't wade through the ashes of innocent Unathi women and children as well as spill the blood of his brothers just so the Unathi could revert to anti-technological barbarism (his opinion). In a nutshell, he doesn't have access to the data or the labs (lots of it banned) that he requires on Moghes and he believes he can only inspire real change if he can bring a tangible discovery/product to the table. If that means having to suffer the alien then fine, so be it. The oath is a bitter pill to swallow but a necessary evil (Sal'Dans believes) in the battle for the souls of the Unathi people. Philosophies name has been changed to protect the innocent. Link to comment
