DeathlySoul
BYOND key:DeathlySoul Character names:Serenity Neferet, SeREnE, Calm, Tranquility, Harten Tyopal, Valentina Abyssus, Clara Milan. How long have you been playing on Aurora?:Between 1-2 Months now? I don't have much of a memory for this sort of thing. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?:So I can play Heads? I thought that was the point? Why did you come to Aurora?:Short story shorter: Play with IRL friends, get banned, see other friend play, get unbanned, eventually play. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?:Yes I have, at some point. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:I think roleplaying a form of communal storytelling, no one has any more say than another (Unless you have a DM). It's not about winning or losing, it's about the story that is created on the fly, getting there together, and that everyone has fun along the way. RP on SS13 is no different, only it has a defined setting for people to roleplay under, a means to an ends. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:The OOC purpose of a head of staff in my eyes, is to turn their department into something new entirely, co-ordinating and delegating work while providing a helpful and friendly environment to their underlings, assisting them where they can not assist themselves, and providing as an integral face, communicating with the other Heads to co-ordinate station operations as a whole. Also paperwork, lots and lots of paperwork. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:Things I think white-listed players should aim towards is not abusing your position of power and ruining the fun of other players. Obviously not all heads are going to be the nicest of people, so it's more about being a realistic ass hole, than not an ass hole at all. Setting an example for Roleplay, and assisting newer players in learning not only how to play the game, but how to work within their department and also the fundamentals of role-playing. I'm not the most driven of individuals to really strive towards anything, but I can delightfully inform you that I have no intention of being unrealistically Ass-holey. I guess I can give those other things a go too. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name:Clara Milan Character age: 35 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):Clara was born on New Gibson, after her father, a mechanic, moved there and met her mother. Low income and the costs of raising a child meant life was always a struggle, but the family endured. Growing up Clara took an interest in her fathers little projects, mostly things brought back from his work. When she finally came of age, she lacked the finance to study for a degree. Still determined, she decided the practical tutoring of an intership suited her better. After four years hard and diligant work, and living an extremely minimalist lifestyle to save money, she was finally qualified to become an engineer. Since then, this minimalist mentality has prevailed, and despite now earning much more, her standard of living hasn't improved much. Now working on various repairs across the orbiting bodies in Tau Ceti, she continued to save up money, occasionally using her funds to start a part-time education course, to widen her skillset and liven up her boring life. Around the age of twenty-five, she was involved in a plasma fire accident resulting in the loss of her right arm. After recovering, her resolve was only strengthened. Ten years and a couple of promotions later, she has become a Chief Engineer Perhaps her minimalist lifestyle and work ethic appeals to NanoTrasen, or perhaps it's her hatred of insubbordination. Still, Clara is always cautious around plasma, just incase. What do you like about this character?:I like the fact i'm yet to actually play her, and i'm looking forward to the oppurtunity to, chief or not. Plus, being friendly doesn't exactly cost her anything. What do you dislike about this character?:I'm yet to work out all the details, aside from the pieces of backstory and a few core elements, she's more or less a blank slate. I'm sure i'll find something I regret later down the line. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff? (Please note that Head characters must be over 30, unless given special clearance):Yes. Why?: Capable worker with long history with the company. Strong loyalty to money. Capable leader? Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?:7/10 on a good day, more consistently a 5 or 6. Doesn't stop me from trying though. Extra notes:As a heads up, while i'm often forced to leave a round suddenly, I'll try my best to make sure such an event won't happen before choosing any Head position, and choosing a less vital role if I can not secure such a time frame. It's my full intention to play a few rounds as a regular station engineer first to refresh my memory and ease into it. Edited December 21, 2014 by Guest Link to comment
Dea Tacita
Considering that your character is working for N.T. simply to pay back a large quantity of currency that she owes them. I don't think she'd be allowed to take a Head of Staff position. People who get in debt are hardly reliable I really don't have a big problem with you as a player having a Head of staff, I'm just not sure Serenity would be a good choice for that. Link to comment
DeathlySoul
If it helps, the debt thing was LONG ago. Like when she was 18-20. She's long since worked off the debt, and realised her entire life is on-board the station, and she has practically nothing outside of that. Hence why she still works there (Plus the friends). Dea Tacita
Taken from a corporate perspective, it simply wouldn't be worth it when they can basically afford to hire anyone else. If you were once unreliable, you might as well still be. Link to comment
enkas
What bothers me, is that there's nothing in her backstory about her education. Hell science department ICly is supposed to be complicated, where great minds actually do science and take notes, rather than randomly stuffing things into the deconstructor to gain points. At best, her backstory skills are more suitable for an amateur engineer, or a very young roboticist. Hell, in real life, people don't hire engineers with no university education, so a research director, let alone a robotisit would be somewhat unlikely. Link to comment

LetzShake
I think looking at a particular character for the whitelist rather than the RPer is a bit backwards. It's not just a whitelist for one character, so why does just that one character matter? Judge the player, not the character, and the player's solid. +1 Link to comment

I poInted that out, he has my tenative support, but simply not with that character Link to comment
Guest
Serenity has been a member of Science for a good few months now and we've had several IC conversations about them one day being promoted to RD (I'm also an RD rn). Franky, I think they'd do a good job. As much as they talk about being erratic in this application, they're actually very level headed and dependable. She's one of my top team members in the Science core and I generally depend on her to hold down her lab when she's around. She works well with others, responds immediately to others, knows how to delegate and I've never had a problem with her creating something terrible without clearance. Command and stress change everyone. Being RD here is different from being RD on other stations. I for one would like to see how they can handle it, and have a good feeling that they can. nanotoxin
My character Nick is usually in proximity of Serenity and I love this character. She's an amazing character and is good at whatever job she does. I think that she's a great leader in the robotics department with me and I think she'd be great at leading the entierty of the Research and Development department. And despite stealing a turtleneck everyround, she seems like she's a straight shooter. Although I am confused about one thing, I thought Serenity's back story was that she signed up for a program where her mind was repeatedly switched between an AI and back into a human body multiple times and that she constantly lost her memory, and they only things she was able to remember was whatever she had pinned up back in her apartment (which Nick was very hurt that he wasn't on). TLDR, Deathly's fantastic OOC and IC and I wouldn't hesistate to put him in the RD position. Link to comment
TishinaStalker
Along with that, I guess I don't really feel comfortable with a character like this as a head of staff. The last few times I've seen Serenity as a roboticist was with Karis Straughan, and it seemed like Serenity would cuss her out just for being there? It makes me have doubts on Serenity's capabilities as a head of staff because behavior like this in no way, shape or form cultivates an efficient or productive workplace. Link to comment

I've heard staff before say that the character used in the application, is only there to show that this player can actually develop a character and roleplay with them. Just because someones uses a character in their app, doesn't mean they are going to exclusively play that character when they get the whitelist, or they they're even going to use that player with their whitelist at all. Serenity is great character, she works hard. +1, not that they matter anymore. Link to comment
Dea Tacita
Like its been said. We have no problem -whatsoever- with Deathly being a player with Head of Staff characters. But Serenity (In our professional opinions) cannot be an RD, any other character is fine. All he's got to say is "I see what you're saying, even if I don't agree with it. I won't play her as RD" We can and do reserve the right to hold up a whitelist if we believe it will be used to use characters who wouldn't possibly make Head of Staff position as heads of staff. DeathlySoul
As much as my goal was to have Serenity as RD, I do still see your point. Corporations wouldn't even waste a moments thought at it, knowing full well they can hire plenty others who are more suited/capable of the job. On the bright side I've been meaning to making a new character for awhile now, perhaps they can fit the boots better. Would you like me to edit/add whatever I think of into the thread/topic thing?
