Recommended Posts

Code: Select all

BYOND key:RTiger

Character names:Bethany Collins

How long have you been playing on Aurora?:2+ years

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?:With my character knowledge, I would probably be an asset to the entire department

Why did you come to Aurora?:I forget

Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?:Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:Assuming a particular character and playing out actions accordingly to that characters personality. It can be helpful to step out of reality for a while and try to see things in a different light.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:Organization and mentoring of players in a particular role.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Players with power should use that power responsibly. Your still not much different from anyone else and should remember to stay fair.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name:Bethany Collins

Character age:36

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Bethany is part of Aetherious Atmospherics and grew up on Abdomai. She has chosen to specialize in her field, becoming an expert in working with various gasses, which also translated well into working with newer designs of station power generation. That being said, she has fallen behind on specialized tasks involving complicated electronics. Having been subject to various hazards on the job, she has received some basic chemistry training to make the common cures to keep going, though still prefers to let medical handle it.

Bethany is quite friendly with nonhumans and even synthetics, and can sympathize with the Tajarans, having lived among them for years. Bethany likes to experiment at times with the engineering equipment to figure out both what is possible, and how to deal if something is terribly wrong. She tends to keep a level head, and prefers to keep the chaos under control.

What do you like about this character?:One of my first. My main was a Tajaran, but I can't be that here.

What do you dislike about this character?: Not the best at dealing with AI

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Experience between both sections of engineering and a wide range of scenarios. Having an even outlook, she views even the assistants as having some value

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: At times, I'm quiet. OOC I'm an introvert and tend to speak only if needed.

Alright, first off.

Organization and mentoring of players in a particular role.

This is not a paragraph. Can you elaborate with more detail?

Players with power should use that power responsibly. Your still not much different from anyone else and should remember to stay fair.

Again, not a paragraph.

As for your bio, it's worth noting that due to lore changes (Biesel law), characters can only be employed by one (mega) corporation at once. You either work for NanoTrasen, or Aether Atmospherics (which you misspelled).

Additionally, your bio doesn't say all that much about your character other than "she has training" and "works well with other employees/synths". Again, can you go into greater detail?

One of my first. My main was a Tajaran, but I can't be that here.

Again, this is quite short. More detail?

Not the best at dealing with AI

Once again, this is quite short. Can you elaborate on how they're not the best at dealing with AI?

Experience between both sections of engineering and a wide range of scenarios. Having an even outlook, she views even the assistants as having some value

This is short and not that informative. Having experience in both "sections" of engineering & scenarios isn't really enough for someone to be realistically promoted to a management position, nor is viewing everyone as equal.

At times, I'm quiet. OOC I'm an introvert and tend to speak only if needed.

This doesn't really answer the question. The question is asking about IC roleplay, not your OOC personality.

Now, my IC experiences with your character.

I have never gotten the impression you know what you're doing.

I barely trust you to do your job as an engineer, I have no faith in your ability to manage the department as a Chief.

Overall, -1.

Work on your application a bit and improve your performance and attitude in engineering.

I just tend to write short and to the point, but I'll try to elaborate...

Alright, first off.

The heads are supposed to be some of the most knowledgeable on the station, and though they may not be an expert in everything, they know more then enough to know the mechanics of the job in question. Assisting new players in learning their role, taking the lead when things go wrong and keeping assignments in order between those best fit to do them, which may be themselves.

Players with power should use that power responsibly. Your still not much different from anyone else and should remember to stay fair.

Again, not a paragraph.

Head or not, a player is still a player and heads are subject to a higher standard then average. A head is a leader, and should play the part above personal interests. You should be encouraging over degrading others in the game. Likewise, such an assignment is a measure of trust, which can easily be reversed. What I seek to do is help shape the engineers to be more capable over time.

Being a resident on Abdomai, Beth opinion of NT isn't entirely supportive. Despite this, she has been contracted out to the station, so she works for Aether directly. Beth is quite aware that most humans try to hold themselves higher then everyone else, but she does not entirely share this viewpoint. Everyone on station, regardless of job, is a tool to keep things running smoothly.

As for skill, Beth has been able to replace entire atmos systems and rebuild broken engines if needed. She knows all about the various properties of each of the gasses on the station, as well as all the ways to set up, manage, recover, and fix singulo, Supermatter, and various thermal engines.

As for other skills, she has learned basic first aid and chemistry in her free time. Beth is still far from a doctor and doesn't know complicated mixes you can do with chemistry, but generally its enough as long as someone isn't dying.

One of my first. My main was a Tajaran, but I can't be that here.

Again, this is quite short. More detail?

T'lir Enra. I once put in a whitelist for her, but never got much in the way of reply. Lorewise, the two are friends. I don't maintain many different characters these days, all of them just being some variant of Beth.

Not the best at dealing with AI

Once again, this is quite short. Can you elaborate on how they're not the best at dealing with AI?

With her focus on Atmos and Engines, Complex devices, robotics, AI, and electrical skill are rather low. Sure, she can build and fix the basic alarms, but generally not machines, borgs, computers, and tcomms. Beth can work with an AI, but she doesn't entirely see eye to eye with them.

I've done so on station several times before. Managing cascade engine failures, depressurization, and power issues, offering suggestions where I can, at times even ordering around the other engineers if there is no other person to keep things orderly. There is little about engineering which I don't know, and things I don't I learn quickly. Her balance of skill between atmosia, engines, and general knowledge of engineering is what I'm pressing here.

At times, I'm quiet. OOC I'm an introvert and tend to speak only if needed.

This doesn't really answer the question. The question is asking about IC roleplay, not your OOC personality.

Honestly, I don't hold opinions, and my characters are just extensions of that. As such, a LOT of my OOC flaws end up showing in all my characters. This includes being a heavy introvert. I don't judge or rate people, or say who is better then another, not even myself.

A... human resident of Adhomai? That sounds... unusual. Anyways, you still have to comply with Biesel law if you're working on the NSS Exodus, as it is located in Biesel space. Someone tried a character that was a representative of another company, and I recall the server staff telling them that it was a no-no; I doubt a contractor would be handled much differently.

Ah, probably my bad here, but I meant more detail in answering the question, not about your other character.

You still didn't quite answer the question. The question is asking you to rate the quality of your own roleplay, not describe it.

You've addressed the concerns I had with the other questions, although my in-game opinion still stands as-is.

Unusual, but not impossible given Nanotrasen occupied the place for so long. Again, I don't work for NT. Simply being a contractor doesn't mean I work for two corporations (People do so all the time in many industries), it just gives reason/authorization as to why I'm there.

I only have one character and intend to keep it that way. I like the flexibility that comes with being an engineer. I don't like to judge or rate things so I dislike security. I can manage some medical but OOC don't have the knowledge, and I have little interest in science. I like the character because personally I like the role.

Again, I tend not to rate. Still, my skill is fairly average if I can get around my natural inclusiveness.
