Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:Roleplay is a way for people to be who they want to be. They can be who they wish they were, or just figure out what it'd be like to live in someone elses shoes for a day. It's a way for people to expireience things that they couldn't in their life, to expireience and go to magnificent places and do amazing things. It's a way to meet people, be connected to others. It's living a different life.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I think the OOC purpose of a Head is to keep your department in check. To make sure all the new players and assistants in your department get to know the department and it's workings.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I think the responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to demonstrate what a person who follows the rules would be. To help the new players that join the server and to be help fuel role play.

Character name:Nick Straughan

Character age: 31

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Nick was born on mars to a cold heartless bitch of a mother, and a father whom he knows nothing about, other than that he was executed on the day Nick was born. His mother raised Nick on a farm, so he had been working with machines his entire life. Tractors, quads, everything of the sort. One day, Nick was driving his tractor along, plowing the fields, when the scorching sun had over heated the tractor and caused a massive explosion, almost killing Nick.

Nick was rushed to the hospital with burns everywhere and limbs blown to peices. Nick was in an induced coma for 5 years. While asleep, the doctors had done everything they could to save him, and proceeded. Other than the fact that the majority of his body is was now mechanical. When he awoke, there was a terrible blinding light, and it pained Nick terribly. His body was rejecting the mechanical eyes they had implanted. They were extremely sensitive to light. Nick had found some sun glasses lying around that seemed to dull they pain. Once he got home, he quickly began tinkering with his new robotics limbs. Upgrading them, repairing them, replacing them. He had homeschooled himself on everything robotics, so that when it came time to take a test to get into a uni course, he was accepted immediately. He met a girl there, dated her for a year and married her at the age of 19. While in his final year of schooling his mother passed away, and with no home to go back to, he turned to a job aboard the NSS Aurora. Aboard the Aurora, Nick worked along side hise wife, and friends. His friends taught him everything he could learn about the Research department, encouraging him and motivating him to become RD at some point.

What do you like about this character?: I like how this character is motivated and determined to come out of his little roots upbringing, and become the head researcher on the shuttle. I feel like this character has unlimited potential and would be able to lead great countries

What do you dislike about this character?:The fact he laerned everything on his own, sometimes makes him think that he's better than other people, so he sometimes comes across as an ass. He also learns things fairly fast, but if he isn't able to, then he gets fairly upset.

Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff? (Please note that Head characters must be over 30, unless given special clearance):Yes I do.

Why?: Because I think that he would be a good leader and a great teacher to those who truely need it.

I don't know why more people aren't posting on this. So far as I've seen all the way over in medical, Nano has specifically gone out of his way every shift to either practice what skills he knows or find someone to teach him. His characters are different and exciting without being snow flakes. He knows his stuff and I'd consider him for RD.

I've seen you in action enough to believe that you are, OOCly, a cool dude and will make a pretty good RD.

But, I would be lying to say that I'm not concerned with your choice of character for the position. It's possible you got approval for it in the relevant rounds, but there was a pretty long string of rounds I was in with Axel where you self-experimented yourself into a Hulk pretty much every single time I saw you.

I will say in fairness to you that I don't recall you being one of the serious jerks with Hulk, but if you get to do the RD thing I would ask you to cut back on this sort of thing and discourage other people from self-experimentation too.

I'm going to say yes to being OOC whitelisted, but no to the character becoming RD. Axel's experience is too narrow, I've only ever seen him in genetics. Additionally, a leadership position requires the character to be self-confident enough to effectively guide and manage those under him without issue.

What bothers me most about your application is the character. I mean, it seems like you intend for this character to self experiment as a Research Director, and I'm going to have to say that from a business standpoint this is a big no. Self experimenting is highly dangerous, especially when dealing with your genetic code. From a real life standpoint, messing with your genetic code isn't as simple as injecting yourself with genes, becoming a superhero, and holy shit this is awesome! It would, for starters, be very unstable because if even the slightest thing goes wrong with your genetic coding, then you will be suffering the consequences for it. As such, a Geneticist that self-experiments would not be given the chance to become a head of staff because their mental and physical health would seriously come into consideration.

Not to mention that it sets a terrible example to other Geneticists, telling them "Hey, my boss self experiments and he got promoted. I should try the same." And Nanotrasen would not want this mentality spreading around when Geneticists have other, safer ways to experiment genetic coding without signing a waiver to self experiment (it's called protohumans and RP).

I've had to deal with Axel Dezember three different times as a head, either to get him to fill out the paperwork, stop self experimenting, or stop hulking himself. (As HoP, RD, and CMO respectively.) Really, that just isn't a good type of character you want as a head.
