Cirukcaller Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 BYOND Key: Cirukcaller Total Ban Length: Three days. It was recently applied. Banning staff member's Key: Oneonethreeight. Reason of Ban:I was banned for generating attack logs while in the escape shuttle, after an announcement to sit tight and not generate attack logs was given out. Reason for Appeal: I understand why I was banned- I know the reason behind it, but I was never given a chance to explain my situation. The light blue of the announcement didn't give my eye the reflex to see it while I was handling a very rowdy trio of prisoners. I was staring at the game itself; at the cheeki assistant who shoved his way into the escape shuttle's brigging section, unbuckling my prisoner, while the one beside me tried to unhandcuff himself and cry havok every time I flashed him to stop. Not only did I not see the message, I was preventing three prisoners from escaping. When I was questioned by the admin, he just asked me if "was that really necessary" which completely threw me off guard. Stun prisoners for them not to escape? Yes, I believe so- after that, he informed that they were buckled to a chair (that they were seconds from breaking free from) and that they had nowhere to go (Even though their point wasn't to go anywhere, it was to free his fellow cuffed and buckled prisoners to try and escape) while also telling me to use flash- I asked him if flash didn't generate combat logs, as I truly don't know these things, and received no answer. After that, he placed the three days ban. The note of the ban is this; Reason: EoR grief despite the global announcement warning, unnecessarily stunbatonning someone buckled and cuffed to a seat in the shuttle brig.. Not only is he implying that I'm a griefer with some sort of malicious intent, he also refused to sit down and conversate with me in a reasonable fashion before taking me out of the server for three days after coming down from a busy weekend. Its not the sort of response I'd expect- I didn't disrespect him at any given time, and only showed befuddlement at his statements since I legitimately didn't understand where he was coming from, on account of the announcement. I also tried to reach a consensus with the admin in question prior to getting the ban appeal going, see spoiler for such; To no avail. So, as I said there, here's the ban appeal. Sorry for the trouble.
Scheveningen Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 OK hi. I'll tell you why I took issue with specifically your case (as you were really the only person causing logs on the shuttle sans the greytider REALLY wanting to break their cuffs.) So you were dealing with a prisoner who was attempting to unbuckle themselves from a chair in the shuttle brig. They were spamming it to the point where you obviously wanted to step in and immediately stop them from the process of unbuckling themselves. However. The level of force that was used to step up in stopping the person from unbuckling was unnecessary. You had the choice of: 1. Unbuckle-rebuckle to interrupt the process. 2. Flash to stun them and interrupt the process. 3. P-spray to, again, stun and interrupt the process. 4. ignore it since the unbuckle takes two whole minutes. Plus unhandcuffing requires him to stay still for another 2 minutes and it only takes 2 mins to get to CentComm. But you kinda batonned the dude while he was still bucklecuffed which was unnecessary. The first three methods of takedown as security whilst on the shuttle are absolutely fine to use to keep order as the shuttle is inbound to CentComm, and even stunbatonning is acceptable provided you need it to detain someone in the first place. Batonning someone who was already bucklecuffed... I assume you know what I'm getting at. If you can, in your own words, explain why I took issue with this with the above information I'd be more than happy to have the ban lifted immediately. Staff decisions may be final but we have forums to undo that.
Cirukcaller Posted March 6, 2017 Author Posted March 6, 2017 Well, I thought it was pretty obvious why I assumed you took issue- you had just given an announcement that I didn't abide to, almost immediately after breaking the query of said announcement and putting combat logs in your chat despite specifically asking me not to. I specified that in the ban appeal, I understand why I was banned, only thing I wanted was communion to explain my reasoning. I don't want to be tagged a griefer; I don't want to have notes on my account that'll portray me like a jackass to any further interactions with admins that have to pull up my file and essentially say, "Well, this one's another griefer. Sticky ban." You understand what I mean? I'm sorry I didn't see the message. I had also used my flash, several times in fact, and I was afraid it'd burn out, that's why I switched to the baton. I didn't think about my pepper spray at the time because it was in my webbing- And, one thing I'd like to note, handcuffing and unbuckling only takes two minutes, its not four minutes in two minutes each action. Now, for some reason, resisting out of the two seems to happen right away, as the two actions themselves pop up immediately.
Scheveningen Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 EOR grief is an old term we never had the time to correctly rephrase but it simply just means "generating combat logs on the shuttle when it is unnecessary", and in this case, that's really just all it was. It encompasses mostly cases in which people just hit others for no reason but in the case we had, there was an actual reason attached to batonning that greyshirt. Which I understand, but when the EOR warning goes out during the near-end of the round we don't want to waste time in keeping the round delayed and thus we don't usually talk to people prior to banning them for EOR combat. You not seeing the announcement was not something any of us could help, it was unfortunate that you did not but I understand why you didn't due to the chaotic nature of the round ongoing. And relax. Notes are nothing, honestly. We (as staff) are the only individuals that can see them and we never show them to other people without very good reason. You shouldn't care if staff think you're a jackass or not because it is still business as usual to us. Whether we think you're a jackass does not go into consideration of staff-player dealings, behavior and actions stemming from jackassery does. I'm well aware you're not a run-of-the-mill griefer because you actually took the time to make a sincere appeal and I've played with you on other games before and know you're a serious fellow. I'll naturally ask to have this lifted. I do apologize for the inconvenience it brought you, the immediate EOR ban may have felt unfair but it's just our procedure in doing things, I know very well what it is like.

How else do I stop them? PM: OneOneThreeEight/(Vira Taryk)->Cirukcaller/(Jarod Dvorsky): They are buckled to a seat. They are not going anywhere and you have a flash. You were warned and we don't make exceptions. PM: Cirukcaller/(Jarod Dvorsky)->OneOneThreeEight/(Vira Taryk): Do flashes not count as well as combat logs? ADMIN: oneonethreeeight has banned cirukcaller. Reason: EoR grief despite the global announcement warning, unnecessarily stunbatonning someone buckled and cuffed to a seat in the shuttle brig. This will be removed in 4320 minutes. Appeal accepted, ban's been lifted, locking and archiving the thread.
