[Accepted] Chen's Head of Staff Whitelist!

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: Chen Yakumo

Character names: Chip Dawkins (Quartermaster), Sina (pAI), Plexi (Scientist), Talus (Android/IPC this is something that was made canon and I don't know if I'm retconning it yet, so I've avoided him entirely), Wind on a Midsummer Night (Scientist), Cyl (Surgeon), Alisa Ali (Pharmacist), Estrella Batten (Librarian)

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I don't really know EXACTLY how long it's been. I usually play religiously for a few weeks to a few months, and then vanish into the ether for an indeterminate amount of time.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: This is actually two reasons. One, I've had a lot of shifts lately where people just...seem very disorganized and chaotic. Doctors not using health analyzers. Scientists just kind of futzing about. I want to change that. Two...I've kind of gotten bored with doing one thing exclusively during a shift. I tend to play at night, when we have a skeleton crew of 9 people, with AIs not being likely, and other Heads of Staff being even LESS likely. Having the ability to do more than one thing with more access would make for a more functional round, and more rewarding to me as a player.

Why did you come to Aurora?: Because I love Space Station 13, but I love roleplaying and hate being ganked by people who see me, I'm their antag target, and then I'm out of the round.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yep. I plan on playing a CMO and possibly the RD. If you ever see me take Captain please execute me IRL.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is the act of donning a persona that is not entirely your own for enjoyment purposes. That is to say, I choose to not be Chen Yakumo the underpaid retail sales associate, but say, Christine Dawkins the Quartermaster. It's about living another life, for whatever purpose that may be. For me, it's because I enjoy immersing myself in lore and worlds that I could only dream of otherwise. For others, it's about becoming something more than what they are at that time in their life. Regardless of why, everyone who roleplays in a persistent setting like the Aurora is roleplaying to take part in a larger story, with lives that they could never even dream of living.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is to keep things flowing smoothly in their department, and then the station as a whole. They exist as mentors of their department, gurus of knowledge played by veteran players who know exactly what they're doing. On an OOC level, the Head of Staff is there to help the players under him that may not entirely understand their job or the lore, and may seek out help. They have the power to help people who need it, and shut down potential grief before it becomes a major issue, and failing that, fix the damage that was caused, without needing to resort to admins.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: The OOC responsibilities of a whitelisted player is similar to what I said above. Depending on the player's whitelist, their responsibility varies. A Dionaea whitelisted player who has no other whitelists would be responsible for making sure anyone who wants to know about Dionaea lore or physiology knows, as well as correcting minor lore mistakes that an uninformed player may make. If that same player had a whitelist for everything, they'd essentially be responsible for becoming a fountain of never ending knowledge, both on lore and on mechanics, for any who ask. I've personally asked several questions of such players in LOOC on mostly mechanical things.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

(Disclaimer: I haven't played this character here. I started playing SS13 on private servers hosted by my friends, and this was one of my first characters there, back when medbay was my fascination. We didn't have a large server population, so just about everyone played a Head of Staff. She eventually blossomed into a full-fledged character all her own. The reason I'm using her and not another one of my characters is because, frankly, none of my current characters are Head of Staff ready. Cyl is a contender for Chief Medical Officer, but she doesn't know shit about virology. It's not in her programming. Other than her, I really don't have anything.)

Character name: Pia Tierra

Character age: 44

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Pia was born on Biesel in April of 2414. As a child, she was always the one to make sure everyone around her was alright. Possessing an uncanny knack for knowing when something was wrong, as well as a limitless amount of passion, it was always her dream to become a doctor. Her family, though mainly farmers, were very supportive of her dreams. Graduating with high marks at the young age of sixteen, she immediately went to her best bet of realizing her dream: A nursing internship with Nanotrasen while she worked on getting her degree. It wasn't easy, and was in fact far harder than Pia originally thought it would be, but she pressed on. Over the course of the next eight years, she would eventually earn her doctorate and then her PhD in Biological Studies. Having achieved her dream of becoming a doctor, she realized she wanted more - and immediately began pursuing a second degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, with minor in Virology. Today, she works for Nanotrasen, her studies set aside, aiming every shift to be as helpful and kind to every patient that walks into her medbay doors as she was when she first started her studies.

What do you like about this character?: Pia has always had a special place in my heart. She has a calm demeanor, even in the face of extreme stress, and almost always tends to pull through in the medbay. Due to her natural kindness, she tends to garner respect from her coworkers and friends among the crew, which in turn leads to an easy-to-handle bedside manner. Every time I've played her, I've managed to pull through, even going so far as to save a member of the ERT after an explosion on another server. Since then my OOC skills have rusted a bit, but it was a very proud moment for me.

What do you dislike about this character?: Due to her kindness and always trying to take the best in people, she tends to be very forgiving, and fairly easy to be taken advantage of. Not to the point of handing out chloral hydrate to assistants, obviously, but that police brutality? Yeah that probably wasn't police brutality, it was definitely self-defense. Right? It's a bit annoying, but at this point I feel like if I took that away from her it'd soil part of her character. I might rework her a bit for the Aurora, given the more in-depth injury system ("There is no way your officers had to break his skull, right hand, and left leg, as well as rupture his lung to take him in.") but I dunno yet.

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: A Chief Medical Officer is required by the very position to be a exemplary doctor. Not just a doctor who gets their patients fixed up and sent back to work, but a doctor that treats their patients like *people*. An impeccable bedside manner can go a long way towards making surgeries and check ups go smoothly. On top of that, as a Head of Staff, she's required to manage her staff effectively and efficiently. Her natural kindness does her favors here, too, but she's also got a more firm side when a "please" and "thank you" isn't enough. When in a dire situation, such as a viral outbreak, she has what it takes to command the infected crew to quarantine, while keeping her doctors and chemists working in the surgery rooms and labs.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Not to toot my own horn, but I've been roleplaying for about fifteen years. WELL more than half my life. I'm well versed in all forms of RP, from the simple one line posts of Skype to the multiple paragraphs one sees in forums. My favorite is, to be honest, the type where I'm given all the time I want to be detailed, but it's still a live post-for-post RP. Something that you'd see in a 1-on-1 IRC channel, for example. I always strive to improve my roleplaying ability, so honestly I'd rate myself about a 6-8/10 on any given day.

Extra notes: Think everything's all filled out right. Sorry again for using a character for this whitelist that I haven't played on this server before. I've been striving to keep away from the whole "Do everything better than your Head of Staff" thing, since ultimately a Surgeon usually wouldn't be equally versed in Chemistry and Virology. Only my most versatile characters are capable of two jobs, due to this limiter I put on myself. As such, none of them are really qualified for a Head position. Why would Alisa be a CMO? She can do surgery and chemistry, but what the fuck is virology? Is it edible? Cyl isn't programmed with chemical or viral knowledge, so she's out of the running too. Plexi is good at the destructive analyzer and that is *it*. Chip is comfortable in the cargo bay, with her small team. So, new Head of Staff...so new transfer. Haha. Sorry :(

Well, overall, the app is very well written, i get the genneral feeling that you know what your talking about, and have the capacity to become a head of staff. I've only interacted with your QM, and that was regarding some rather Hostile crates in the warehouse. OOC wise, you seem like a nice person. i'll try and get more RP with your chars if i can.

jugding from the app, and my OOC encounters with you, i will support this. +1
