BYOND Key: OneOneThreeEight

Character Names: Vira Taryk, Amelie Laurente, Jon Sallow, Mahmad Esmael

Species you are applying to play: Dionae

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Chartreuse. Oh, exempt. Darn.

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: Dionae are probably one of the few unappreciated species. Call me a hipster but I for one would like to get into the action that no one is bothering to get into, and that's to be an incredibly hardy plant-growth humanoid completely oblivious to most normal human concepts, able to take it slow when making or taking part in any decision. Some people would like to be the unstoppable force, but I would like to be the immovable stubborn fungal-plant-mass object that only cares for leisurely card games and mathematical ventures to hone its separate consciousness to near perfection when the time comes for the dionaea singularity to be formed.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: A single diona has the equivalent potential intelligence and sapience of a very clever mammal or of a lesser developed pre-pubescent human child. A dionae's potential intelligence surpasses that of human comparison and have a developed collective bodily consciousness that rivals most attempts at advanced artificial intelligence. Whereas the dionaea ranging from colossi formations to satellites possess a network of assembled consciousness to a scale unfathomable to any known record of existence. The dionaea's expansion is invasive and constantly expands by the day, and there are existing fears that the dionaea influence may grow to such an extent where its own massive singularity, completely skipping over any necessity for digital integration with biological functions as typically theorized is necessary for humanity's major evolutionary transition. This fact makes the dionaea race's expansion a very scary prospect as they can biologically live without technology and can sustain itself in the most hostile conditions, even going so far as hosting satellites in the midst of space, subsisting on starlight as their primary necessity to live. In spite of their weakness to darkness, however, dionae entities are functionally immortal. Though not entirely unkillable, their capability to split from their initial gestalt as a failsafe only for one of the nymphs to make The Great Escape to grow into another gestalt makes them incredibly hard to weed out. Pun intended.

Character Name: The Jack of Branches

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Email RE: tJoB Inquiries

"To understand what the entity known as The Jack of Branches is, we need to go back a few years back when the Company made the amazing but sadly short-lived choice to invest credits in in-house casino facilities to redistribute any wealth shared from the Company treasury as payment to our Most Loyal Employees for their hard work and service and have such currency gradually trickle back to its Wealthier Pool.

-

"Around the same time the Company's xenobotanical facilities were well at-large in terms of Overall Productivity and certainly bore their own Fruits. Pun intended. In particular, however, the xenobotanical facilities were interested in cultivating diona nymph nodes. In one particular facility known as the 'Bank', incidentally, this led to a bit of cross-over in projects given one of the Company Casino managerial staff was a xenobiologist and xenobotanical researcher heading their own funded project in cultivating a diona entities in being able to learn the specific nuances of gambling games, with the inherent mechanical focus on attempting to beat the odds of the house using mathematical analysis and weighing probability, risk and other important variables.

-

"One could imagine where this is going, but I shall Elaborate. The good professor... V, as she shall be known, was quite the eccentric. Not to mention quite the card player, a very good one, too. She has been evicted from multiple gambling establishments on Biesel, Mendell City in fact, for card counting. Suspected only, true, and she would never admit it, but not even she was permitted to gamble at the tables despite being one of the pit managers at the time. On the subject of 'JoB', however, such a thing did not exist in concept at the time. In fact, Professor V kept the company of four nymphs about her person when making the rounds of the casino she assisted in managing. For many months did they make the rounds on each of the floors, with the learned woman often whispering nonsensicals to her smaller rustling companions, leaning to listen to their rustling and whispering, and then moving on to the next tables to observe and comment to themselves quietly again.

-

"And then the absolutely insane happened.

-

"Professor V received permission to issue her nymph subjects license to try their... feelers, for lack of a better term, at the multitude of gambling sources at their disposal. The good professor issued each an affordable stipend to purchase their own chips and each of the nymphs, rightfully named "Branch of Diamonds", "Branch of Hearts", "Branch of Spades", and "Branch of Clubs", respectively to card suits. Quirky names, if anything, and if for nothing they were tacky and tawdry names. But befitting.

-

"Befitting in that within the next week, the establishment had to be permanently closed due to a seven hundred thousand credit deficit in the coffers of the casino. The Branches had Broken the Bank. The Company was more or less not pleased that one of their establishments became compromised due to the machinations of one of their own scientists jeopardizing one of many profitable gambling operations and sources of inherent income, but they nonetheless found the silver lining in the experiment results of the professor. Professor V was awarded a percentage of the not-so-small fortune that the Suit Branches had won for her, and the rest of the funds were returned to the Company at the professor's own whim and behest. Though the professor would later pursue other ventures in the Frontier relating to other newly found organisms and thus making use of the bestowed grant, the destiny of the Branches did not end there. The four nymphs would later merge into a single gestalt with the ambition of creating the perfect balanced card game that relied most on mechanical knowledge of the game rather than pure luck. To sustain its social position among other sentients, however, they would also pursue ventures in lesser pursuits such as bartending with the occasional propositioning of their tenants to a game of chance for low stakes of finance.

-

"And naturally, we would be amicable to further observation of this subject of interest in the event the Company ever wishes to relaunch the next Bank."

What do you like about this character? Though it entirely reeks of snowflake backstory, what appears like a gimmick running the character can often develop into situations with engaging interaction and enough depth to keep other individuals still engaged and invested with the aforementioned interaction. It is the small things that can bring greater meaning to roleplay.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

I find it surprising no one commented on this app considering Delta's long history on this server, so I guess someone has to.

The app shows a good understanding of the history and behavior of the species and is very creative. The backstory, though, while creative does not tell us much about their personality. I understand that's a minor issue considering it was raised on my own application. For delta's behavior, despite previous scheveningens I don't think they would abuse the whitelist and that they can be trusted with it. Their RP abilities are indeed in the 10/10 range.

The main thing I look out for on Diona applications is the ability to not be a fucking idiot with your ABSOLUTELY GODLIKE STRENGTH with which you are imbued. I know there's the whole "diona have weaknesses" thing but there's no arguing that they are unbelievably good. Of course there's the understanding of the lore which is equally important, but if someone messes up the lore people get their immersion broken for a few seconds. If someone messes up with their role, much like a head of staff, it can ruin rounds.

If you'd made this application a while ago, I would have given you a -1, just because back then (at least from my perspective) you had an incredibly... pragmatic approach to dealing with threats as security. More recently, you've shot me as a ninja with an ion weapon p. much immediately after I committed a hostile act (which you apologised for at the time, at least). Please don't take this as a personal attack, because it's not, this is quite literally just my experiences with you in security roles.

But, with that said, I love you. You have shown me that you can play very maturely and created/participated in some excellent situations. The game of russian roulette with your HoS, even though I died fucking instantly, was one of the moments that I've had the most fun with on Aurora. Your responses show you have absolutely no desire to play them like that, and you clearly understand that is one of the risks associated with the race.

+1. Sorry for the speel.
