Alicia Jewel Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 (edited) BYOND Key: Alicia Jewel Character Names: Maria Pendergraft, Julia Davis, Isabella Broomhall, Patricia Stoddard, Lucy Johnson, B.E.B.E. How long have you been playing on Aurora: At least three weeks now Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Light blue Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well-articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Whenever I get the chance to create a non-human character in any game, I take it since, well, humans are boring. Skrell in particular hold my interest for a few reasons. First of all, their society is highly focused on intellectual pursuits, and I love playing intellectual characters. Second, playing a character who cannot express emotions very clearly but still has them is a challenge that I’m looking forward to tackling. Third, the Skrell’s biology means that they will stay calm and rational instead of panicking when frightened or in danger, which will help fight against the usual chaos of the station and also serve as another challenge. Finally, you can thank Dr. Cranken from Viewtiful Joe 2 for sparking my obsession with squid people. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The biggest difference between a human and a Skrell is how a Skrell biologically reacts to a dangerous or frightening situation. As previously mentioned, it is also physically difficult for a Skrell to express emotion to a non-Skrell, which will make for some interesting roleplay situations. Their culture is also different from the Humans’ in that it is focused on intellectual pursuits and has a near-reverence for the Dionaea. Finally, they are set apart from Humans (and most other in-game species) by being predominately asexual. Why does this species in particular hold your interest? As previously explained, Skrell hold my interest because their society is an intellectual one, and playing them will be a fun challenge due to their difficulty expressing emotions to non-Skrell and their biological propensity to staying calm. I also want to play a Skrell to give them a bit more love on the server since I've rarely seen any. Character Name: Luta Yut Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Luta was born on Aliose to a geneticist father and a cellular biologist mother. When she was a child, her parents both took jobs with NanoTrasen, and the family moved to Mendell City on Biesel. Luta’s new environment fascinated her: she was surrounded by species she’d never seen before, some of whom she eventually learned to speak with, and the sentient species around her had totally different cultures from what she had been raised with. To this day, she still believes that Skrellian culture is superior, but she has a healthy fascination with the cultures of other species, and she has subconsciously adapted aspects of those cultures over the years. Her fascination with other species, both sentient and non-sentient, led her to take up studying xenobiology. After receiving her doctorate, she was employed by NanoTrasen and began working on a small research station. She worked there for nearly two years before becoming fed up with its sub-par working conditions and the cruel ways its live test subjects were treated. She reported the station, applied for transfer to the NSS Aurora, and never looked back. What do you like about this character? Luta’s intellectual mind allows her to work effectively as a xenobiologist, and her respect for nearly all living creatures allows her to perform that work without causing undue harm to her test subjects. She is generally calm, even in stressful situations, and she is compassionate and open-minded due her background despite having difficulties expressing those traits. Her belief in the superiority of Skrellian culture does subconsciously affect how she interacts with members of other species, but she does not actively think that Humans are greedy, Tajara are primitive and childlike, etc. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I’ve been roleplaying for at least ten years now and usually make complex characters who react realistically to situations around them. (If my character gets shot in the arm, for instance, she’s going to react to that even if the game doesn’t force her to, not continue forward like a robot… unless she is a robot, of course.) I’m also an avid writer and have done very well in college-level writing courses. For those reasons, I tend to rate my roleplaying ability very highly unless I’m tired or just not in the mood to put in a lot of effort, but I usually don’t even bother roleplaying if I’m in one of those moods. Notes: The name given above is totally open to change since I’m not entirely sure how to create a name for a character who doesn’t have teeth or an articulate tongue. hivefleetchicken Posted December 21, 2014 Posted December 21, 2014 Even though I've only roleplayed with one of Alicia's characters, I must say I was very impressed. Top kek-quality RP here. I'd say she's definitely able to take on an alien species. +1 From me.
Jboy2000000 Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 Ive done a fair lot of RPing with Alicia as Julia, and she does a good job and RPing, and actually doing her work, not only that, but the fact someone actually wants to play a Skrell and not an Unathi for once, thats a big plus for me to. To my knowledge, no matter how unlikely it is, theres only three Skrell players here. So, the fact that shes a good RPer, and willing to play one of the least used species on the server, is a huge plus from me.
Guest Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Most of the RP I've done with their characters was executed well so I can only say that Alicia is a top notch RP-er. I just hope that Luta Yut doesn't turn out to be some promiscuous snowflake.
Alicia Jewel Posted January 1, 2015 Author Posted January 1, 2015 I just hope that Luta Yut doesn't turn out to be some promiscuous snowflake. Is that just a general statement, or are you basing that off of something either in the app or that I've done in-game?
Covert0ddity Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Although I have never actually RP'd with Alicia before, I've observed them, as I do to everyone else because I'm a creepy stalker. Fro mwhat I've seen, their characters are well-rounded and the player in question is definitely deserving of at least one alien whitelist. No more, though. Unless it's Vaurca. Then it's okay. +1
Tablespoon Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 A Skrellian that actually think's it superior to humans? Now I have to make a character have a grudge against (potentially) 'high and mighty' Skrell. Approved.
