[Accepted] Kihatomay's IPC Whitelist Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: Kihatomay

Character Names: James Praxton

Species you are applying to play: IPCs

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Exempt

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

I have a fascination with consciousness and how one perceives others. Because of that, I want to try to blend in with the human populace as much as possible as one of the human-like IPCs, and try my best to maintain a relative ignorance in the crew as to what I really am. When I interact I will emulate normal behavior with odd quirks in it that bring one to question my character's true nature. Despite not feeling pain, it will try to behave as though it feels it. The same goes for emotions, however due to being an IPC, morality, and efficiency, will become muddled.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

IPCs do not feel pain, and are essentially AI's put into a frame that can be operated akin to a humanoid being. The lack of true emotions and pain, gives them a unique place as a 'race' among the many employed by NT. With this in mind, you have to understand that you cannot react irrationally to a situation, despite the context. After all.. you're just a robot.. right?

Character Name: Aleks Martin

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Aleks Martin, Product ID A.M, is a state-of-the-art integration experiment by HI to see how biological beings would react upon realization their co-worker is infact, not 'alive'. They have set directives to not reveal the true nature of Aleks, and facilitate blending in with the organic crew as best virtually possible. Having gone through several tests, all with outstanding results on civilians, it is decided it is time for him to enter the work-force in stride. Aleks is stationed now on Aurora, programmed with the knowledge of all the things one would need in this setting, making him capable of filling any role necessary during a shift to facilitate productivity and obtain data on how he integrates with the crew's biological members.

With this IPC's development an entirely new forefront on perspective of sentience and consciousness will be accessible, but how will others react?

What do you like about this character?

The concept around Aleks' peers not knowing what he really is interests me greatly and I hope that I will get to expand upon this if I am accepted, allowing for growth and changes based on how rounds go. I most like the fact that I will get to see others react to the mystery around the character, and I look forward to seeing how things unfold.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'm not that bad. But there is always room for improvement, for everyone.

Before I even begin with the actual meat of my feedback, I must inform you that IPCs (shells included, their existence is the main reason all IPCs are tagged) are tagged with a very visible device to mark them as synthetics. It bears their name, classification, serial number, whatever else. Basically, it cannot really be disguised. It can, however, be removed IC through an operation. It can also be replaced if you are found without one.

While I like the idea of a shell who is intended to be a perfect mimicry of humanity, as I have not really seen this done before, I am left curious. Do you understand the purpose of the IPC in general? Their place in society? Their strife? If you played a baseline IPC, would you understand that it may be unacceptable for it to act as human as a shell?

Yeah. That's what I would enjoy about it, having the objective of maintaining a human persona alongside other goals every round would allow for a very dynamic character. The Shell is supposed to be an experiment by HI, if people who became the IPC's friends found out, would they turn the IPC in to be retagged, or would they consider it still a human and try to help it stay icognito? It allows for not only a fun way of playing a crewmember for me, but other players will be met with choices that could define a round.

Before I process this application any further, I must inform you that while, yes, you decide what is canon for your character, it is distasteful to do so at a very high rate so that your character ends up fucking about way more than they should but you don't consider it canon so your character's record remains officially clean. I won't really inquire into how much fucking about you actually do in-character, but I must ask that if you're going to do a lot of it, you must not be picky. Our rules on decision of canon applies mainly to deaths, traumatic events, major injuries... something that would seriously affect the character's life. Are you capable of using this ability to its intended level and/or frequency?

I +1 this.

I have done this before, just to see how well I could stay hidden. Being very creepy. But this basically means, you cant get hurt. If a doctor sees you he will want to help you.

Doctor walks up to me with analyzer, "Oh.. your not human, I can't help you, go to a roboticist." But then if you do that, you'd have to do it all in secret and roboticists will only know your a robot.. and doctors will find out.

As I said, I +1 this because I've tried. I hope this is accepted, I wish to see how amazing you can do.

If it has to be removed by someone during the round, I'll have to get in with a roboticist or someone with the capability to do so. Now, I'd PREFER to have gotten on board through illegal means without my tag, A.K.A, HI pays NT to allow them to place this experimental unit on Aurora. If that's not alright with you, I'm fine with having my initial goal be removing the tag. Perhaps a malfunction purposely caused by H.I. You know, causing the unit to literally believe it is human by all means. HOWEVER, as I said, I'd prefer the experiment with consent from NT route.

NanoTrasen would be willfully violating federal law by doing such, and while this may not actually be the biggest issue for them, it would create a disaster for public relations. I think you're just going to have to find a way to have it subtly removed.

Application accepted.
