[Denied] Nivalis664's CMO Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: Chevron664

Character names: Nivalis Adeptus, Thadeous Nighthawk (haven't played him here really), Catalina Adeptus, Theon Adeptus

How long have you been playing on Aurora?:

Aurora, a couple weeks. I played several months on Hypatia years ago. Played as several Heads particularly with Thadeous Nighthawk as HoS and with another as CMO.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?:

I wish to be a Head whitelist because I feel as if I'm a capable player and I've noticed an obvious lack of CMO's and their very much so needed leadership. With the other departments almost always quickly covered, i don't feel the need to work with them, but i have familiar with all for them still.

Why did you come to Aurora?:

Hypatia ceased to exist and since I've exited the military I have enough free time to SS13 agian.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?:

Yes, as stated above CMO as well as any other head is more of a leadership position, not superdoctor or supercop.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:

Personally, Roleplay is an escape from a rather dull reality. It shouldn't be dull as in just reading subtitles, but full of the subtle sighs and mannerisms of life. With medical this is important, because its usually the same people you run with round to round, and you need to know whether your surgeon is capable of handling the fast pace of surgery where your nurses and medical doctors can play their place. Medical is a glorious compartmentalized department, which, with the proper leadership could be one of the most glorious machines in all of Aurora.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

Honestly I don't understand the difference between the OOC and IC differences. If the CMO notices a surgeon that is incompetent, it is both an OOC and IC issue, and it is the duty of the CMO to recognize such situations. In OOC situations, the CMO is in an excellent position to spot such deficiencies, and with proper role play every situation can be handled properly IC. With other heads it works mostly in the same way. Head of personnel is suited to deal with the various procedure with getting a lot of the bureaucratic mess sorted out. Security is for reigning members under them. Heads are not the "super" version of their department. They are just there to make sure that there is someone with proper seniority to lead things in the proper direction.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

I feel like I've blended these two questions together. To continue though, I feel like an example is a decent enough. I'll even rat myself out, when I first joined a medical position on Aurora, it had been a long time. I did my old routines from 5 years ago from Hypatia. I got my gear and proceeded to wait for patients. In game I was told by a doctor proper procedure, like not wearing my mask and gloves until dealing directly with a patient. This is the point I realized my home with Aurora, I was glad that I was actually called out properly on my sub-par RP.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Theon Adeptus

Character age: 36

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):

Theon is somewhat of a prodigal son of the family. Soon as he was able he caught ship off of Sol and, as almost any human with an interest in medical sciences, enrolled with the Lunar University of Medical Science. After a few years of undergraduate studies the scholarships started to run thin and he was approached by the recruiters of Nanotrasen. He listened to the pitches and signed a contract almost immediately. Now on Nanotrasen bill he continued his education unhindered. Taking a few years here and there to work directly with the NSS Aurora and gain valuable insight into medical applications from his early days as a simple nurse to internships with Chemistry and Surgery.

To Theon, Medical was all there was. His life had been absorbed into Nanotrasen's corporate web and he was very much influenced by their constant oversight. After going back to college for his second run, He acquired his doctorate and set right to repaying his debts to Nanotrasen. Even though most despised this sort of debt bondage, Theon rejoiced, while he was paying his debts and wasn't making the money he hoped, he was still employed, and was always setting his eyes further in.

One thing that always caught his eye was the empty office tucked in the back corners of medical. That door... Chief Medical Officer... it was so rarely used, and medbay suffered. The powerful and brilliant doctors of Aurora ran about, tending to this and that, but the very real lack of command in this organized caos showed its head in several occasions. Hostile attacks often took the lives of his fellow medbay staff, and it was always another head's responsibility to protect them. He knew Medical needed that head, that voice in the dark, to make Aurora's Medical department truely shine. He worked as hard as he could, continuing his duties, pausing in the halls occasionally to glance at that silent office.

What do you like about this character?:

Theon always looks to help, he's also not out there to prove he's the best. If there is a doctor who can handle a situation better, he has no problem handing off a patient. He's not there to be the superdoctor to cure the station, but he's there to help Medical shine as the department that everyone can trust. Not just the place to show up when you zapped your mits.

What do you dislike about this character?:

Personally, I hate modern pharmaceuticals companies... Nanotrasen would be no exception, Catalina embodies this perception and its a good thing I can't play both characters at once. Catalina would ceaselessly harass him for his abandonment of their family. To her and myself, he's just another cog in Corporate greed.

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?:

He's worked tirelessly to meet the standards thrown before him by Nanotransen and has the proper mindset for the position. He's not there to be the superdoctor to save the station, but the head of medical to give voice to his coworkers elbow deep in gibs.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?:

Overall I'm about a 7/10. I'm not the massively detailed RPer as what I've seen on the station sometimes, but at the same time my experience dictates that there is always a proper way to RP a situation and I've seen far too much OOC that could easily be IC. Back on Hypatia I learned this and came up with SRS, Surrogate Reality Syndrome. It was a IC way to deal with the OOC issue. It was outlined as a rare condition in which the patient does not believe that he or she is in reality, but rather in a pseudo-reality the physical and social rules of which do not match-up with their perceived truths. Basically it explains the Grey-shirt: "lol opps wrong button." It's much akin to SSD, which explains the sudden "sleep" of characters that leave the game.

Extra notes:

First of all, thanks if you've made it this far. I understand that I am relatively new to Aurora but I hope that this can be overlooked with my time I spent with the similarly hardcore RP server Hypatia. Any questions at all, please feel free to ask me.

Also! I think it would be an absolutely outstanding idea to have a board type discussion with NT's reps reviewing my application in character!

I also was under the misunderstanding that you applied for individual heads, but I am primarily interested in CMO for now. As stated though, I'm familiar with the other roles, and understand the responsibilities associated with each.

Edited, but as for the other heads, I haven't been seeing them empty as much, that's primarily why I went with CMO. But much of the general responsibilities is the same. More leadership, not superdoctor/supercop. Being CMO or HoS isn't that your necessarily god tier, just good enough to get everything blamed on you.
