calion12
BYOND Key: Calion12 Character Names: Vieniamin Sokolov, Fideal Al'Majoree, Vaelin Nirana'Lelac Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Deep red Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I like the idea of playing as part of an entire race that carry themselves with head held high and valuing honour, often even above their own lives as is the case with guwandi. I also quite like the idea of one individual race taking two different paths due to their history, Moghes being very rooted in their culture with Ouerea showcasing the effect of diversity that comes with being integrated with the most technologically advanced race and the ever-diverse humanity. A species steeped in culture, and being very new to to the whole interstellar community I think it'd open a lot of opportunity for role-play, either wanting to learn about other cultures or teaching the values of their own culture (if they are so inclined). On a much less important note, I just enjoy playing reptilian races in vidya gaems. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Mainly their culture, naturally. While, yes, humans can obviusly highly value their honour, only unathi have based their entire society on their honour. Hell, even when admitting guilt, they display their most vulnerable part (fleshy neck) and accept their punishment. Obviously that'd be a little redundant for humans considering they're fleshy all over but you get my point. Perhaps this is just me (being britbong, I like seeing my own histories in anything I can) but I see the unathi culture somewhat as medieval England, women treated as property, honour being held in high esteem and, of course, kings. Character Name: Eskiael Tzenek Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Hatched in 2440, Ezikael never had the pleasure of knowing a pre-bombed world. having the fortune of being brought into a fairly well-off clan with his family being fairly high-ranking within the community, Ezikael was able to be well-trained in the martial arts, claw and blade, with his elder brother often serving as his combination mentor and sparing partner. Being born strangely small and never quite growing out of it, he faced some lashings of the tongue with the occasional full-body checking. Being taught the virtues of honour by the females of the clan, he had already decided he wanted to become a soldier, before even attending primary education. He was never an exemplar of the academic arts that being said, his family's wealth did afford him a certain edge, he managed to get above-average grades in most every subject. That was his life for a long time; receive morning training from his brother, attend schooling, come back to more training. Sometimes he would follow his brother on hunts, marvel as he moves with his huntsmen to take down local fauna of all kind. Once, he even joined in, staring down terrifying beasts then coordinating with your fellow clansmen to take it down. Exhilarating. To his surprise, he was the one who made the kill although, on reflection years later, his brother and his friends probably allowed him that kill. Thankfully their clan's relative isolation allowed them some small amount of refuge from the constant raids and with the wastes a safe distance to not be a problem within the immediate future, they only had to worry about small excursions by incredibly desperate clans and the occasional wild animal. All in all, it was about as easy a life as a rural unathi could have. But it couldn't stay this way forever. As he neared age to join the military, he came back to see his home in flames, every member able to fight up in arms. He had seen raids before, even fought in a few when times got desperate but this, this wasn't one of those. There was no honour, the enemy firing on anyone they saw with ballistics, energy guns even grenade launchers. With a mix of fear and anger, he raced towards the closest enemy, picking up the blade of a fallen clansman. The hostile opened fire, not having the time to think out an elaborate strategy. Overcome with blind rage at this point, Esikael swing the blade as hard as he could, burying it deep in the chest of the gunman. Satisfied, he moved onto the next but there were none. There was one, a tajara, dragging his crippled brother onto a drop pod. As soon as it had started, it was over. The fires were doused, the wounded, helped. The local shaman was a dictionary of names by the time all the lost had been accounted for. The clan stabilised, in time. Ezikael missed his brother dearly. He refused to have his name added to the deceased. While the clan recovered, he recieved the blessing of the leader to look for his lost brother. While the clan had been financially crippled, hit family still had enough wealth to afford a shuttle off-world. He spent over a year travelling before winding up with no money left. For the first time in his life, he had to earn what he wanted. He wound up taking a contract from a human company, named Nano-Transen. Hopefully he can save up enough to find his brother and take him home. What do you like about this character? To be honest, I like that he isn't some god, perfect at everything. He's not the brightest and he knows it, he's not the strongest and he knows it. While his family's wealth greatly helped, he had to find alternatives himself, he had to find counter-measures and offsets by himself. I also quite like the potential for RP when he lands station-side and has to acclimatise to working with others he's not familiar with. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 7or8/10. I think I'm competent at playing alien characters, bringing across their individual culture but I also make unique characters, characters that don't fit the stereotypical "MUH HONOUR" unathi or "GRRR, WAR" catbeast. But hey, I'm probably massively biased. Notes: Yes, I know I only just applied for skrell but y'know. My spelling of honour throughout may become an irritant, sorry. Also don't worry about me shoehorning in an excuse to hate cat-beasts, I didn't mean it that way, just wanted to add a bit more detail on that scene. Link to comment
MattAtlas
Calion's a great roleplayer. He's better than many people at it, and that tells a lot. His IC conduct is pretty good, since he doesn't break character and his characters are all fun to interact with, they have different backstories and there's a very clear personality divide between all of them, which speaks well of his ability to make characters. He also plays some of my favourite characters on the station, which tells a lot to me. I can't judge much on the backstory itself, but reading over it, I don't think I see any outstanding issue. I'm giving this app a +1, good luck. Link to comment
VisVirific
From my observations about Vieniamin Sokolov and somewhat brief interactions with Fideal Al'Majoree, Calion seems to have a good grasp in characterization and keeping each character different with their personalities and behavior, and even though brief, the interactions felt pretty distinct for Al'Majoree. I think the backstory is interesting, too. Eskiael's drive to find his brother could be interesting to see mentioned/roleplayed it out with others, and I am curious how you'd roleplay a character with such a stigma to the race you usually play as. Even if I myself won't get to interact much with Eskiael, I'd definitely observe him through his day. Going for a 1+. Link to comment
Guest Marlon Phoenix
Hello! Sorry for the delay. You have an interesting character concept and you show a clear undertanding of the unathi lore and what it means to be Unathi, on top of positive feedback. I'll be happy to accept this application!
