IAmCrystalClear
BYOND Key: IAmCrystalClear Character Names: Annie Rose, BUD, Flower Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Affirmative Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Quite frankly, I find "detached" characters easiest to play. To me, this means I enjoy playing my station-bound, BUD, as he tries to befriend those on the station between his synthetic understanding of organic culture and whilst still attempting to follow his laws to the best of his ability. Since joining the server back in December, I have always wanted to be an IPC and recently took to the station-bound role to teach myself the "synth" play-style. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: IPCs are a form of AI, meaning they often have to-the-point mentalities and a flawed understanding of many emotions. However, IPCs are extremely varied, often built to perfectly fill their role. This leads to great variance between them. In short, they could be a detached security robot, designed only to patrol and execute the law, or a almost near-perfect mimic of a human psychologist, counselling those in need. Another thing to note with playing an IPC is their numerous mechanical (pun intended) differences. For example, compared to most races requiring the typical elements to survive (oxygen, food, pressure, etc) IPC characters, dependant on type (Shell, G2, Baseline, etc), do not necessarily need these. Character Name: BUD(DY) Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Currently, BUDDY is an android station-bound to laws. He is most commonly found mining, performing science, or assisting security. He was created approximately two years ago, before being redeployed to Aurora as his primary station. BUD is perhaps most notable for his large, bulky appearance, his 8-bit smiling face and his signature "Greetings, I am BUD, your new best friend!". BUD was initially created as a morale provider and assistance unit to stations in need, and was pre-programmed to attempt to befriend as many people as possible. On Aurora, BUD typically starts a shift by mining, attempting to assist the science crew and raise their morale. Shortly after moving to Aurora Station, BUD began to take notice of other synthetic life, finding a desire within himself to become an IPC and experience freedom. He then met David Hawthorne, who agreed that once approved by NT, would perform the "upgrade" from the station-bound body that he currently has to that of an IPC. What do you like about this character? Like my more well-known character, Annie, BUD comes naturally to me. His flawed view of the station's inhabitants mixed with the desire to befriend all those he can makes for an interesting role-play every time, and I am hoping the creation of an IPC version of his character will lead to more great roleplay in the future. How would you rate your role-playing ability? This is a hard question, honestly; I've been role-playing for as long as I can remember, and have learnt a lot since I started. However I am still trying to learn everything about SS13 and sometimes I struggle to keep up with the pace of the game. I'd like to imagine I'm above average, but I wouldn't prize myself as one of the best and constantly look to improve. Notes: Please leave feedback. I am here to learn! EDIT: Updated "Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human" to mention a few mechanic-based things. EDIT 2: Updated backstory, hopefully this is better! K0NFL1QT
+1. Have played with BUD and Annie and they're good, fun or in-depth characters. I reckon CrystalClear understands synthetics and could play a good IPC. Link to comment
calion12
I'm not going to sugar-coat this; the backstory itself is incredibly lackluster, tells us virtually nothing about the character or what it means to be an IPC or why we should care that this one does. As for your characters, Annie seems blatantly incompetent and frankly unfit to be a detective. As for your others, I wouldn't know. I think, from reading this and past experiences with your characters that this app needs to be re-written to at least tell us more about this character and take some time to get used to acting accordingly if you want to take the "detached" route. Sorry. Link to comment
CakeIsOssim
Seconded. Backstory is very vague and feels handwavey. A little more effort in the way of qualifying your character will be required. Link to comment

Tequilajoe
CC has proven themselves a filthy synth sympathizer degenerate robot fucker big fan of synthetics and the lore behind them in the way that they play, and I see nothing wrong with this application. They're RP is solid, and I'd like to see them join the robot fun +1 Link to comment
