Evandorf Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 Apologies if this is already done in some way, but I verified with Coalf before posting this and he says that the secret mode odds are always the same. I think that most people who vote secret do so because they either prefer to not know the antag going into the round or because they do not have a preference at the time. Altering the odds for a particular mode in secret based on the votes it received will better reflect the wishes of the current players. This would only be a small, but noticeable increase in percentage chance. This would not remove other restrictions such as player count. This would mean that those rounds where crossfire or extended loses to secret by just a few votes or even during a tie, would give the people voting for those modes a better chance for the option they want while still preserving the possibility of others and the element of surprise that secret provides. It would also break up some of the monopoly that secret has, encouraging other options which historically get only a handful of votes (vamp, wizard, malf) by using the votes to increase mode probability. There would be fewer votes for secret and a more even distribution of real votes that match the players' wishes.
Arrow768 Posted April 17, 2018 Posted April 17, 2018 "Most people who vote secret do so because they either prefer to not know the antag going into the round or because they do not have a preference at the time." That is not correct most of the time. What usually happens is that people vote secret because they want to prevent the other mode from happening. Sometimes you can notices that where at the start of the vote the individual votes are more distributed and towards the ends the votes generally go towards two options. The only voting change that would solve that is removing secret, never showing the vote result unless its extended and basing the probability for a gamemode on the individual votes a specific gamemode received. So we basically have secret with a dynamic probability. But since that has been suggested and is already being discused in a policy suggestion I am voting for dismissal here. Edit: fixed a error in the last part
Korinra Posted April 18, 2018 Posted April 18, 2018 I hate to contradict you, but I vote Secret specifically because I don't want to know the game type. Sometimes I'll vote for other game types if they seem fun for the moment. I don't vote Secret maliciously like you imply "most" people do, and I'd like to hear from other people who vote Secret most often to see if I'm the rare minority you imply that I am.
