BYOND key: CommanderXor

Character names: Sean Richter, Edward Cane, Rosey Woods, Jackson Holiday, O.I.U-156, Romeo Patton, Ka'Akaix'Vizea C'thur, Ka'Akaix'Mizor C'thur, Ka'Akaix'Yava C'thur, Ka'Akaix'Tela C'thur, Tallow Winters, Talon, Jess Flandern, Chemzie, Hark,

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Late 2016, so nearly two years or so.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Because I always did enjoy playing command and helping push along the rounds either with antag involved ones or general events. Not to mention there is a massive lack of command members during the low-pop rounds I play on, thus I want to fix that.

Why did you come to Aurora?: I came to Aurora originally since it was a heavy roleplay server that had a consistent population during the various parts of the day and seemed to reach that perfect mix of action and roleplay.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: I have read over the qualifications needed for them.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is in its most basic roots taking on the role of a person, persons or object in a set environment. This may be real life, or something like Space Station 13. Often it is done for entertainment. Typically while roleplaying a person, you should have their personality and history set out, there should be a 'ruleset' of a sort that they abide by and live up to. This may be having exploitable information that can impact them, to possible species bias in interactions.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

In game, if taken from an in character viewpoint, they are hired to maintain cohesion over their department, and thus through extension the station. Each person is in charge of a set department and are there to keep it running like a well-oiled machine, hypothetically this would mean if all departments had one the station would run at peak efficiency. They are also there as a mouthpiece of sort for any orders relayed through the chain of command. OOCly, they're there to help guide along their departments, help antag interaction, and ultimately make the round more enjoyable for all parties when applicable. A fine balance between fun, and realism must be struck in such interactions.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

The OOC responsabilities of a whitelisted player is obviously more serious roleplay, they're expected to handle issues professionally instead of shirking it to go mess around. They're expected to help drive the round along, either antag-wise or in event-run rounds. They're expected to not instantly shut down everything, and instead help drive roleplay and a story with everyone, attempting to make the round something fun filled. To uphold such things, I would likely not attempt to shun every attempt at a gimmick, and I would try and look at things from a greater perspective than just 'winning the game' as per-say a Head of Security or such. I'd think about what others may experience in a round and such and attempt to make it fun for everyone.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Sean Richter

Character age: 41

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):

Sean Richter had for the most part grown up standard, showing a passion in the fields of history and old Sol/Earth culture. He was born as a Germanic-Irishman in Ireland. Having attended schooling until finishing Year 12, he set off to join the Sol's armed forces. He was deployed as a soldier in his home country for about eight years as he took up a combat engineering career pathway. He saw real action a few times from terrorists and insurrectionists a few times but escaped rather unscathed physically and mentally.

Following the several years he worked as a combat engineer, he was reassigned as apart of a Riot Control unit, for ten years he worked as it. Rarely being deployed to the relatively stable nature of Europe at the time. While apart of it he learned even further things, and put his skills from the armed forces to use. The mixture of his military and security work allowed him to seek out a contract with NanoTrasen as a security/officer brig warden. They originally started out a member of the ATLAS party while working, and quickly rose to become the head of the Biesel Storm Divison.

However, as they progressed through their service with NanoTrasen they started to realize things were not as it seemed and they started to get to know synthetic and alien alike. After much development on station they soon left the ATLAS party and denounced it, from there they started to get in to pro-synthetic and pro-alien policies, eventually getting to the point where he was on the other side of the political spectrum from where he started. Most of the time he spends assisting them as best as we can, often buying k'ois bars for the Vaurca crew and such.

What do you like about this character?: I enjoy Richter because to date he is my most developed and complex character, for nearly two years i've played with him and developed his personality. He started quite right-wing being a member of ATLAS and through many rounds he's slowly changed until he's pro-alien and such. This coupled with the various events he's run through gives him much value to myself, and I thoroughly carving out his story through more rounds and the likes. It's always fun to reflect back and see how he has changed, and what may have happened if he did something else or such.

What do you dislike about this character?: I guess what I dislike about Richter is his more rigid behavior as of recently. He spends most of his time reflecting back on errors made throughout his stay on both the Exodus and the Aurora, and what drove him to this. While not a flaw in itself, it does mean he can be a pain to plan out at times. What would Richter do, compared to his old self and the likes. It adds another lay at least to the roleplay even if it is something I dislike at times having to adapt to such situations.

What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: I believe that Richter would make a good member of Command because he has spent much of his time working within a team, mainly the Internal Security Department. He has been in command in the past but his contract at the time expired and he has to resign it again. So he has proven he was worthy, both working as a interim Head of Security and a fully-fledged one later on. I think along with that fact, his currently personality would be a great contrast to the current members of Command present on the server, given the current anti-Vaurcae atmosphere in the server, compared to his pro-Vaurcae opinion, it would make for a good situation.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I say my roleplay abilities are currently average. I started roleplay with a Garry's Mod gamemode known as Clockwork Half Life 2 Roleplay, specifically the GRIDHIVE server. I thoroughly enjoyed how the server was something different from what I used to. From there, I started getting into actual story-driven roleplay and played on many other servers like Lemonpunch, Shockcore Gaming and such. From there I got into SS13's HRP scene through finding it on the hub, I started with Baystation and then moved to Aurorastation after some time. For the past two years I've been playing on here trying to improve my roleplay abilities.

Richter becoming a HoS might get me back into Security. I love this character, and Xor's got some good RP behind Sean. Xor himself is well suited for a Command role.

I'd +1 this.

Richter is not allowed to be a command member, due to the fact that they've undergone far too many changes. To be specific, they went from officer, to warden, to head of security, to officer, to chemist, to officer and now to a command staff position again. These are far too many changes and edits, so many that it would be unbelievable for your character to end up in a command position again. This behaviour of constantly changing your character and using the same one for command staff again also doesn't show us that you've changed since your last whitelist strip or that you're capable of changing.

Edit this application with another character.

I'm a little worried about your ability to play a head of security as Sean Richter, but that seems to be out of the question per Datamatt.

Often when you play security you take small slights and turn them into formal security issues. For example, whenever my characters have made a rude remark towards Sean, Sean immediately halts and attempts to persuade the security channel that my character needs to be immediately arrested.

You seem to believe that I'm metagrudging you or you have a longstanding dislike of my character Jawdat. As a Command member you have a lot of potential to really go after players that you feel slighted you. How do you feel you can satisfy my concerns that you would use your Command powers to punish characters or players that you feel deserve it?

Richter was an Officer/Warden, then became a command member. The previous strip was from an OOC situation, thus the IC reasoning being his contract finally expiring and having him head off for a few months before resigning a contract for internal security again. The security to chemist thing was due to an OOC agreement given high-ping ruined security rounds, afterwards I was told it wouldn't be allowed and told to revert him to security again. A majority of the changes have been due to OOC issues that have since been fixed. Does this reasoning sort this issue out at all?

I don't have any sort of issue with you OOCly, the only thing being IC dislike between Richter and Jawdat, we haven't quarrelled on other characters at all as far as I am aware.

The main thing preventing Richter from going off at people like that and 'use your command powers to punish character or players that you feel deserve it' would be a mixture of common sense, and obviously the loyalty implant. When he was an officer/warden he always sort of looked out for himself, still doing his duties on the side, but when he's been command he has always carried out his duties/loyalties first. Arresting someone for making a rude remark at him would probably be a waste of resources and bad publicity unless it was severe enough to warrant the slander charges.

Unfortunately not. Richter cannot be a command member as it is, you are still required to edit the application with another character.

Don't really have any other characters that I could apply for Command to beyond Richter, so I'd need to make an entire new character and play them around to get them known. So just go ahead and decline/remove the application or whatever.

You do not need a known character, a new one that you made just for this application is fine. Are you sure you want this application retracted?

Currently, my only other main characters would be Vaurca which are barred from command in general and IPCs. I'll think of what I can do over the day and see if I can't make a new one.

Right, so, I think I've got a character idea nailed down but I'll need to flesh out the backstory a bit. For the time being can you close this application so I can post a new one later on once I've got it ready?

Alright.

Application retracted, then.
