So, in game we have an entire job and guide set up to diseases and study and working on cures for them. But I hope the lore team will not beat me too hard for asking. But what diseases still exist in our lore? I know that's vague but, considering the amount of time has passed in terms of history. I would think that some if not many human diseases and infections would die off, simply be smothered by modern science and die off. I simply wish to know, what diseases WOULD there still be? What microbial invaders would still plague the inhabitants of space. And I don't mean just humans. As was the case in Orson Welles rather interesting take on humans interacting with beings from another planet, disease and bacteria can be tricky to deal with when you're not the same species. So, let me simplify and put my question into the sky for the lore team to peck and ask at. 1) What diseases remain in the universe. 2) Of these, what are actually a threat and could cause panic if left unattended? 3) Are there outbreaks and diseases that have varying effects on other species? Human v. Alien and vice versa. Now of course this is for later use in IC documents and information, I do not wish to go on a crusade to revamp diseases in game. I simply wish to have this as information of the world outside of Aurora Station. But still in the Aurora Universe. Thank you.

We Should Have a Talk of the Current State of Aurora
nbielinski replied to Hartburry's topic in General
Upon reading this, I find myself totally disgusted. At myself and my actions to Hartburry. But allow me to place this into context. While on one hand we have Drat, a rather lovable character that Stefan sees a more friendly version of Roy Wyatt. And after many rounds of working with Drat, has grown to like the company of the Tajaran, even going as far as to call him a personal friend. Now, on the matter of the round, this new character that you created. While perhaps experienced, was someone Stefan had never seen or interacted with. And I think Nightmare can attest to this. And when this new character started to make a fool of himself. Well, imagine it this way. If Drat and Stefan are working in atmospherics, and suddenly a new person comes in, throwing pipes around and acting a fool. I feel you and I would have the same reaction to him, negative. So, I hope you are able to see my point of view. It was not because I had never seen the name, it was not because the character was bald, and it most certainly was not because he was a "new character" but it was because this character, this random person that has never established himself in any way among the crew of the Aurora, most specifically to the engineering department. Arrives and begins to act as I said, like a fool. I would like to take a moment to apologize though, recently I believe many of the rounds and individuals within them have begun to anger me and as I recall at that moment I was rather angry at something ICly, so you can imagine how a character reacts to a negative person in a negative situation. I do not commend my actions and this is not a plea to see that Hartburry is wrong, indeed if all new players are treated like this its a very big problem. I simply want Hartburry to realize my point of view in this. Drat is a peer that Stefan can relate to and even like. The new character though, seemed to be trying to take the place of Drat, minus the fur, and emulate his actions without even introducing himself to the engineering department. It is like attempting to use a AAA battery in a 9-Volt slot. The two do not add up, as the new character had failed to gain any admiration from engineering what so ever. And I expect if a player were to join now and begin to waste fire extinguishers, drink on the job, and make a fool of himself, he would be treated the same. I am also not saying that somehow you gain seniority by being around. But Drat had time to slowly grind in who he was. This new character, was not as much slowly grinding in as he was chainsawing in his mannerisms. Again, I apologize to hartburry for any misdeeds. And hope he remains with atmosia onward. -
I somewhat did not expect such a clear and concise response, thank you carver and Dea. While some areas of the game mode seem to be, well, not thought out. At least I know now that it is not indeed just, "Here's the game mode, now go fuck about." So I thank you both. -Hugs and Kisses from Nibbles.

So a question, that I've not found answered on the wiki about Mutiny. As it seems the game mode slowly becomes more and more an extended RP rev round, I have more and more questions that continue to burn and cause me distress as I attempt to unravel them. Now here are just a few. 1) Are the directives sent to Captains FROM Nanotransent? Because it seems to not really be explained. 2) Why does it seem that every mutiny round, that the head of security becomes the Captain's dog and all of security just falls in line? -2a) Does the HoS's loyalty implant require him to? -2b) Then why do the other officers simply join aboard with this? I assume they're not brainwashed. 3) Are the other directives such as the epidemic and such going to be implemented or have I simply missed them? 4) Do the orders for these directives grant amnesty to the ones following orders? In some rounds I've seen orders to simply kill crew on sight be issued, and no one seems to consider that they will be fired after returning home. 5) In the directives, is the one supposed to follow them threatened at all? Is there any consequence given if the Captain fails these challenges? -5a) If not, then why is there such a force to kill off everyone that seems to be peacefully going against the captain? Is it for fear of being punsihed? Or just..meta? Of course these are just a few questions I've noticed, now while I read through the bay wiki on mutiny, it was very non-specific. Sort of like, "Here is how the round is supposed to go. Now commit to entropy." Of course I do wholeheartedly like Mutiny, it could be an interesting round if it didn't seem so much like rev. Allow me to give an example. On almost every mutiny round I have seen. The Captain becomes Hitler, the HoS becomes Heinrich Himmler and the entire security team becomes the Waffen SS. And I make no joke here. I was witness to a Captain saying, "Summary Executions to all" in a room full of civilians that were convicted of perhaps being against the Captain. And the sec team seemed to agree to this. Simply put, I'd like to understand if this is indeed a new game mode, or simply an extension of Rev RP. Thanks a ton for any constructive answers. I'm just, a bit confused about the whole thing.

Community hostility, especially towards new players
nbielinski replied to Doomberg's topic in General
I hate to get into debate, but I feel I should play devils advocate here and give an example. New guy in engineering, never seen the character before. Promises me, atmospheric tech willing to get the engine up, that he has done singularity engines a thousand times Dude goes into the area, and is killed by an electrified door. Gets back from medical like, "Okay round two. Let me get the tanks set" I already got the tanks Its too late, he's filled engineering with plasma. He says sorry, then dies. Five minutes later, another engineer dies because of this. Is it really so bad to feel at least a little concerned of new people, if this happens. And quite a lot might I say? Like newbie sec officers promising they've used the gas chamber a hundred times, and filling the room with N20? Not saying that its alright to blandly say, "Fuck you" to every bald and new person, but I feel that saying people are bad or metagaming for fear of new people, is somewhat foolish. -
SierraKomood's IPC Application

+1 A rather acceptable roleplayer who has shown on many occasions to show not only an astounding ability to play as other characters of varying species, but also to reflect a real would image of a human being into RP. Totes good character m8 -
Annie Santanda is stabbing Stefan in the chest. Again. Kay Lee is saying "..." a lot again. Conservan Xullie is smoking while filling up the collectors. Again. Hakra Drat is wearing that damn blue hat again. Roy Wyatt is causing social civil war in engineering. Again. Nysa-Novias Cygnus is being all absent and shit. Again. Sukri Tal'at-Sajjad is having smexy times in the atmospherics office again. Ziva Mo'Taki is telling someone she's going to snap their neck for breaking a light. Again. Nasir Ha'kim is off getting himself arrested again. Oliver Stefan is trying to bail Nasir out and unfuck the situation, oh and getting ignored. Again. ((Did I do it right?))

Might as well throw my proverbial self at the band wagon: Nbielinski (Nibbles) Oliver Stefan - Freak with the gas mask, somewhat friendly, mostly helpful individual. Thats all you really need to know. Trust me, when you see the mask, you know its Stefan.
-
+1 a fairly good roleplayer with a passion for in character playing, he knows his way around engineering and has managed to show proficiency in most cases where such knowledge is required. All in all a fair individual when it comes to the thought of being a head

The image actually is something I would agree on wearing, thank you Susan. I love the look of it as well as the name of the .png..."stupidassmask.png" None the less it looks on par to what I would imagine.

Really? I thought I discussed this with an admin in game, though that might have been someone else. In essence its a gas mask frame, created to keep the wearer from the view of the public, now that would be it if the deformity was just that, a physical deformity. But the situation warrants an extending on the style of the mask. Instead of simply a regular gas mask housing that filters contaminants and allows the user to pump fresh oxygen or plasma from a tank, it manages to (I'm doing a bit of research and think work on this part) to aid in Stefan's breathing as his respiratory system is, well, lacking. As for a reference, well I actually have something I based the idea off of. If you recall, during the first world war, many wounded veterans came home with facial disfigurations...a horrifying amount, an Ungodly amount of men who had faces that were rather gruesome. That is where a man by the name of Francis Derwent Wood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Derwent_Wood) came into play, he thought up the rather ingenious idea to give soldiers back their lives without requiring them to go under the scalpel for extended periods. His plan was to make masks for soldiers by molding their faces and producing them from tin to hide the rather horrific scars and battle wounds that pot marked their faces. Skip forward a few hundred years and you have Stefan, a rather poor atmospheric tech who has very little in terms of money but requires surgery to make his face look anywhere near as handsome as it used to. Now why would anyone in corporate want to have to constantly have their crew members look at a horribly disfigured techie that is supposed to be keeping them breathing? Even with half a mask you have to look what looks like a mirror of 25 year old man thrown to the floor and put back together with scars. So in simplicity, its difficult to explain it without the "like a gas mask but..." argument seeing as how a sprite and lore restrictions can limit the imagination. But I have done my best, any more questions I can try and answer but let it be known I work weekends and still attend classes. So be prepared for a short pause in between answers. Thanks. -Nibbles.

I will attempt to sound the least bit dickish as I can here. But as stated before its full face lacerations and scars that have left a rather hefty toll on the whole, "face looking normal" thing, but if it is really the will of the spriting artists to go in the "Ulysses" direction, I can adapt the character to fit the bill.

Head Whitelist Application: OneOneThreeEight
nbielinski replied to a topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
You sir, are fairly good at RP but more importantly you seem to have your mind in the right set to play as a head. +1 -
I think carrying around a United States Flag from 2077 in SS13, speaking in rhythmic verse, and attempting to beat mail men to death with flag poles would constitute a time line break, I'm still looking for more of the gas mask approach to the system. It would help in keeping unsightly scars or wounds from the public eye while also keeping my character from vomiting up his lungs.
-
Yea, when the mask starts to break or act up I reccomend folks imagine Darth Vader's wounded breathing as a substitute to descriptions. Thanks!
-
Well Stefan is a special case, I would think that a breath mask could be modified, but seeing as how Stefan has severe scaring to his face and other extremities, full body covering is usually preferred. Thanks Sammac!

BYOND Key: Nbielinski Character name: Oliver Stefan Item name: Modified Gas Mask Why is your character carrying said item to work? This gas mask is configured to help the wearer in breathing, an Stefan, having a rather dangerous wound both internal and external, he requires help in breathing. So this mask supports his only working lung, also shielding his face from the outside. Item function(s): Purely aesthetic, it has the ability to be modified to the users needs, Stefan requires a small motor/vacuum in his mask that forces air into his lung and allows C02 to escape through the same area. It also functions as a sturdy covering for the face, with a stronger metal composition and a thick, reflective face plate. Item description: This odd looking gas mask is quite clearly not of Nanotransent Origin as it sports a black metal polish, as well as a reflective face plate that mirrors the view of the mask itself. This particular mask appears to "breathe" with the user, hissing when they exhale, and whining softly as they inhale. Item appearance: *I've yet to download Dream maker so I cant sprite it yet, but in the end, a re-written gas mask would be fine for me, I mean its just about the description and the name, nothing else really needs changing* Additional comments: If you want to know the back story for the mask, read here: http://auroraserver.freeforums.net/thread/1633/stefans-requiem Otherwise I'm not asking for much, just a fixed up gas mask, if possible. If I get dream maker working soon on my new laptop, maybe I can sprite up something, but for now its just about the description.
