  1. Honestly, this resume looks superb for someone only wanting to contribute to a corner of Aurora's lore. It really is a testament to how humble the accomplished can become. As far as I know, Jackboot would make a fantastic Unathi lore deputy as I've personally interacted with at least one of his in the past and I think he was a rather unique character; not a stereotype but also didn't shameless buck lore like it didn't exist. It was contrary but with nuance with respect to lore limitations. With that in mind as well as my very limited knowledge of Aurora's going-ons, Jackboot really does seem to be a top candidate if what he's written in his application is to be believed to be as good as it suggests. +1
  2. Here's a spooky fact: Doom was the most installed software on computers in 1995, followed by Windows 95.
  3. I don't think that's a very good way of weapon control; inherently controlling guns by design is very restrictive and doesn't serve to solve a rampaging issue (being, scientists with guns.); this is a case of a rotten apple spoiling the bunch. Just, like, throw the apple out. I intend to eat those other apples. From what I've seen, ghetto guns are much more prominent than research guns. Ghetto guns aren't going to implement these firing pins because, well, they're ghetto. It also entirely defeats the purpose of ghetto guns; something you're able to throw together in lieu of a proper firearm for self defense. I mean I guess you could still pistol whip them, but I don't see why you wouldn't use a crowbar or spear for that. Otherwise, ghetto guns kind of need to be mechanically unrestrictive to serve their purpose. It's a very easily abusable design as is, yes, but forcing firing pins into them I don't believe is the way to go about it for both IC purposes and fundamental purposes. To wrap things up, it just seems like it's an inefficient and just a plain wrong way of going about things in terms of issues we face with people using weapons to break rules. For science, what the topic is intended for, not only is this an OOC issue but it's one that's well within the moderation/administration's view and control due to its low number as compared to many moons ago. Restricting gameplay for everybody now because someone somewhere "might" do thing is utterly silly in my opinion.
  4. When you make preparations for a project, it is generally a smart idea to take into consideration factors that will effect the outcome of the project and consider routes to take to overcome these factors rather than to dismiss it until you've decided whether to continue with the project or not. That's just bad planning.
  5. I read this thread. People are disagreeing in it! I am ready to also be disagreed with. Nikov raises an excellent point I think in regards to everybody starting at the beginning of the round. Just makes a barrier to the actual game. It's akin to the advertisements before a movie in a movie theater. Yes, it gives you a nice warning that the movie is about to start and you should get comfortable and ready for it to start but honestly, you should have fucking done that beforehand and paid attention to the time. If you're honestly not comfortable and at least SOMEWHAT prepared for the movie, what have you even been doing for the past half hour? Everyone's gotta wait through the advertisements for your slow, lazy ass because you literally could not prepare yourself to watch a movie you went out of your way and paid living, breathing money for and waited for half an hour to go see. This is a counterpoint to whoever gave that pros and cons list for people starting on Odin. I think at best, only late joiners should spawn at Odin because it is a legitimate design, as PumpkingSlice pointed out with lifeweb, but the lifeweb community is vastly different to Aurora's as well. The difference in community mentality I think definitely has some weight in determining outcomes of this. Overall I think Nanako is generally correct. Might be interesting for latejoiners but it's going to be an awful implementation if you decide not to work out the kinks using the logic of "it's how it's always been done" when it's literally never been relevant until now. also why are we arguing about lifeweb it was brought up as a point of reference where the implementation was successful centcom isn't going to have a deep railroad tunnel for you to accidentally fall off of and get stabbed by a hobo under that wasn't even brought up in Pump's point and is entirely irrelevant just saying
  6. I want the police chief outfit. That is all. Now onto the actually important topic - the old LOOC color, can we vote to have that back? It looks so much better than what we have now, just look at that LOOC in those screenshots.. Mm. Mm! Mm, mm.
  7. This thread has been inactive for over 2 months. I'm considering the complaint resolved. Locking and archiving.
  8. Alright, it's been 24 hours and nothing else has been added. I am considering this complaint resolved with the hopes of better understanding. Thread closed.
  9. We've reviewed the conversation between you two, found HERE. A few things here. 1) There seemed to be a misunderstanding at two particular points regarding IPC's and skills. 2) DatBerry was not aggressive in any manner, he met force appropriately but did not do or say anything in an attempt to intimidate or deflect. 3) A potential note escalating to a warning is a judgment call, much like an officer either giving a warning or a ticket for some traffic violation - it does not seem this was done in malice, but given the circumstances it looked like a reasonable judgment to serve as a reminder for the future. Note that warnings primarily serve as reminders to the player. They're really only taken into account when making another judgment if it's something consistent over time.r On IPC's and Skills: Yes, there is a limit to how much an IPC can know at any one time. Yes, IPC's can 'job-hop' from round to round but on the condition they don't just retain all working knowledge of everything, ever. Overall, it seems DatBerry was being neither rude nor aggressive to you; at worst, putting his foot down when met with opposition that is in the wrong, as is appropriate. Do either of you have anything to add before the thread is closed?
  10. Again, here is not the place to argue about your interpretation of what HRP means. If you have a differing perception of HRP that is your prerogative, and not at anyone's fault. We'll look over the logs and review the conversation between you two.
  11. DatBerry did not base his judgment about the skillset around you joint-locking zombies. From what I recall he was investigating that at first, saw your skillset, and decided that it was too much. I'm fairly certain he conceded to the point that yes you are perfectly able to joint-lock zombies. But that was something that was put to rest upon a cursory investigation - A god skillset just won't do, it's far too much. Your joint-locking zombies had nothing to do with the warning and in fact isn't even alluded to in the warning you got. You're free to review your warning to cross reference this. As a reminder, complaint threads do not serve to argue about one's philosophy of perceived playstyles and should remain outside of this thread and even this subforum. Please take it to "Aurora isn't HRP" or literally anywhere else that isn't here because it is not relevant. It does not matter whether this is an HRP server, MRP server, LRP server, or even a NO RP server; if it's decided there are soft skill limits, then there are soft skill limits. Period. That being said, do you have any logs supplementing the claim that DatBerry was very aggressive toward you? If not, we are able to look into the logs.
  12. Alright, I've gone through the thread and bit of the threads that BygoneHero's linked. I'd like to make a few points here. The mod set to handle this ahelp set out to do their job - an ahelp was made, decided to handle it, saw another issue while investigating, and decided to handle that also. Your perception on HRP/MRP/LRP is yours alone, and a thread from the member of the community explaining their points of view on the subject does not make it objectively so. If you decide to agree with them, that is your prerogative. We can not make you think otherwise. A community-member-made thread on what IPC's are and are not capable of also do not count as precedent. Unless there is an official statement stating that your IPC can know literally everything, again, a community-member-made thread holds absolutely no precedence. On top of that, there are points made AGAINST knowing everything, that very thread countering your own arguments. With that out of the way, I witnessed what happened that round. Knowing more than the average joe might be reasonable for an IPC - however, that does not give them excuse to know everything you'd need to know on the station to do whatever you want. We've made points against this in the past for others who tried to do the same, stating that yes your character CAN hop from job to job - but not on the fly. Your IPC can download databases and information regarding other professional fields? That's a great concept and one I encourage as it separates man from machine but there are some things it doesn't seem you're taking into consideration regarding this concept. 1) How long does it take to download this information? 2) How much space does this vast amount of information take up? 3) How much available space does your IPC have to storage information? 4) How does your IPC balance what information to keep and to get rid of to maintain this integrity? And in fact, what information does your IPC decide to keep and get rid of to make space? Mind you, these aren't questions with definite answers. As someone suggested in the thread you linked, there is a balance with this special rule. You aren't as limited as humans but you aren't unlimited as well. This is something that DatBerry brought up with you, and reminded you of. He brought up information you may not have known to prevent further trouble in the future, and you had a decision to make - you opted to use your RP time to speak to the mod rather than carry on. You can not blame the mod for taking up your time, the only reason the discussion has carried on was because you decided to carry it on. I want to know, given this new information: this is an opportunity to elaborate a bit more in case I'm misunderstanding or alter your wording to fit the new informationr so it's easier for me to understand. What is it that DatBerry did wrong?
  13. Tenenza's leaving, the entire reason I even applied to be a mod was to laugh when people confused us for each other. Imagine seeing Tainavaa or Tenenza then giggling at the idea that they're wrong, keeping a tally even! It was like a game of chess, only we didn't control the pieces nor was there any planning or playing involved. Just waiting for people to confuse our similar names and adding a tally mark. It was simple; it was satisfying. But with Tenenza leaving, there is no T Party and therefore no reason to even be a part of this staff anymore. cy@
  14. Not necessarily. I haven't made a final decision about what I want my Unathi to do or what their background consists of; it's just the general state of his home.
  15. BYOND Key: Tainavaa Character Names: Tina Kaekel, Anna Lee, True Lemming Synthetics Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Green with a sand tint Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always had a vision for Unathi; how I saw them, my own interpretation of their culture and philosophies and I always liked them in concept. Typically headstrong, valuing utility in a person and rather xenophobic. Sticking to their own, I think there's a lot of potential with psychological play within a character. I've had some interesting ideas concerning the Unathi religion, politics, and philosophies and how it would ultimately effect the Unathi. I thought it would be fun to express my interpretation of their psyche after sitting up in my bed one morning, taking a deep breath, looking around, and saying, "I'm a scalie now," in a flat but enlightened voice. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: I'm not going to lie, what I see in Unathi are what I think has been seen in humans before and even now. Religious tradition, culture, politics even; the only difference is a human behaving in this way with a similar psychological state and a military/religious culture would probably be seen as a snowflake - and therefore hated - and people would get angry for taking physical action against someone who wronged them. The most different thing I can see here from a human being is the superficial actions typically done in response to their emotions, and their preference for melee over ranged due to a perception of more honor in the act (Honor kill farmers, am I right?) though I've heard of people preferring melee over ranged in human culture for that exact reason. I dunno if that's a thing in history or a particular culture but I do know some neckbeards say that. Oh and they're carnivorous. Oh and also their bodies are structured differently. Referring back to my first statement saying "superficial actions" I do use 'superficial' with a purpose. It isn't uncommon for human beings to be emotionally distant or reserved and it isn't uncommon for their behaviors to reflect that. I suppose what difference there is is cultural: responsibility, discipline, tradition being core aspects; or entirely physical what with lizards not being humans and all. They're like a niche part of human's history of cultures. Which isn't bad. I like it a lot. It opens up those avenues of play. Mechanically however, I know that they're sensitive to cold and resistant to heat. Extensive exposure to cold causes them to shut down consciously. They hissssss in Engli- I mean Tau Ceti Basic. They have claws. Can eat monkeys like a champion. Probably something else. Character Name: Issan Silitar Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Issan is part of a small clan that practice Sk'akh that reside on the outskirts of Trizakael; a clan of healers normally seen as weak but thanks to the more liberal values humans (and apparently Skrell?) have instilled on the inhabitants of Ouere instead of being shunned by the other clans that are more able in a skirmish they've been more or less 'annexed' by a superior clan in the chain of command of Trizakael. Which clan, you ask? Open the set-up character screen on the server, set your species to Unathi, then click "Random name" 17 times. Look at the last name of your newly generated Unathi. That one. The clan is often sent refugees as a way to relieve pressure from themselves and probably don't think twice about it since the Silitar clan is seen as weak. As a result, their population swells and the Silitar home is becoming a slum. Issan is agitated at the weakness of his clan, choosing to focus on the livelihood of the living and letting an important pillar of the Unathi way crumble in the process. He opts to leave in pilgrimage for greener pastures, to make use of his life and without submitting himself so passively to such blatant disrespect. Though he'd never admit that truth. What do you like about this character? I like that he goes against the grain of his clan going against the grain to go WITH the grain of the whole of Unathi society. He wants to be respected among his own kind and he sees no possibility of that in his home, especially not when it deteriorates under the numbers of refugees invading his home. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Functional. Notes:
