[Accepted] Drakogova's IPC application
Ezuo replied to Lady Fowl's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Alright, I'll break this down bit by bit. First off I think you did a good job with the first two questions, and you seem to have grasped the big differences between IPCs and other races. It'll be nice to see some more synthetics around that really show the difference between themselves and humans, as I've seen some synths in the past that act like human++. Now onto the backstory, and the character itself. I like how you've made them... average, normal. Knocked around a bit in life. If you play this well in character, and establish that in how you act/speak, it could become quite a good character. The repeated mantra also struck a good chord with me, kind of showing that they still have set/programmed bits, even if they also have aspirations. A nice touch, in my eyes. The only real glaring hole I can see here is that there's no real reference in how Maggiline joined/was picked up by NT. There's a nice ending note in the current story, more suited to a novella or short story, but no real link from that point in time to now. Why did they join up with NT, how? What about this character led to them being employed, and as what? That hole in the story aside, I don't have any other real concerns to voice. I've dealt with you a few times, but only for things that I would consider part of the "leaning curve" for highRP. You seem enthusiastic to fit in here, and are willing to take criticism in your stride. Your attitude is also great. All in all, I think I'd give a +1, even if its a bit hesitant from the backstory hole. If you fix that up, then it will become a strong +1. -
[Resolved] Ban Request - Jesse Armstrong
Ezuo replied to Aaron J. Hughes's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Alright, I want to make my involvement in this very clear. I responded to an ahelp for a single incident, an arrest that brought up a few concerns. I did not pass judgement on the general play of Spider's character, or their ability to perform their job generally. I don't believe I've seen Jesse around very much firsthand, so I don't feel qualified to put in my 2 cents on general play and conduct. -
He does not like it a single bit. Knowing he works for the people that were probably the ones that supplied the first bombs is almost sickening, but he has a duty that surpasses that. His work isn't just about him, it is about helping to support the remnants of his clan. He may be sharing the halls with disgraceful beings, but he keeps his peace knowing that he is true to his teachings, and to the code he holds so close to heart.

BYOND Key: Ezuo Character Names: https://imgur.com/qLWrnLP Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): A kind of muddy green. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Indeed I have Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Well, after watching and hearing about Unathi ICly, I finally decided to skim over the lore page. Their history, social structure and the inherent death of traditionalism through the march of technological advancement really intrigues me. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: There are a lot of inherent differences when playing an Unathi. The biggest difference is of course the social element, stretching out across the social and societal structure, behaviors, and strands of morals and ethics in relation to actions. Character Name: Du'Raka Kuzek Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Du'Raka was born in 2436, to the Kuzek clan, his original birthplace lost in sands of the wastes. He was only 3 when the bombs fell, too young to remember anything but a world engulfed in flames and war. From the scraps of their former lives his clan, binding themselves to the Traditionalist Coalition, taught him of the way things used to be before the Great Endeavor. From a young age he was taught how to hunt and fight, becoming quickly proficient in melee combat. For years he sparred with the other children, using crude wooden imitations of the spears that their elders used. The lessons learned while sparring, however, were not crude in the slightest; The calm between every mock duel filled with lessons of honor and integrity. To these lessons he listened with respect, every word etched into the tattered books they used to learn reading and writing to carry on oral traditions. This methodology was instilled in him until the dwindling days of the war, when Izweski infantry annexed what little land his clan had managed to hold onto during the conflict. He was 13 when the Coalition was finally crushed under the superior forces of the Izweski, causing many of the few warriors left in the clan Kuzek to brand themselves as Guwandi. Du'Raka understood why they left, knowing many would rather die honorably under the tattered flag of tradition than live in a world too focused on the future to remember the past. His next four years were spent years was spent trying to adapt to life under the Izweski, ending up in S'th to try and escape the ever encroaching wasteland. Luckily the shattered remnants of the Kuzek still had some semblance of a clan leader, even if the land they once presided over was lost to radioactive fallout. Having not known any trade other than combat and honor, Du'Raka strived to join the guard that patrolled the streets of S'th. Soon his days were spent walking the streets of his new home, the steel he wore branded with the mark of the local lord. His life continued like this for a time, around 3 years, before the strain on his pockets became too much. He soon joined the ranks of those that were drawn off world by the offer of employment contracts, and guaranteed pay. Today he patrols the metallic hallways of Nanotrasen owned stations, every month sending back a portion of his pay to the remnants of the Kuzek in an effort to help support their lives. What do you like about this character? I've strived to make Du'Raka an Unathi that is majorly concerned with things like the Warrior's Tenants, and a deep respect for tradition. Playing an Unathi character that doesn't acknowledge the social structure at all is like playing a Tajaran that uses first person. Whats the point of the character if they're just a human in a fursuit? Basically, still having a close connection with the home world and a respect for tradition will make this a really interesting character to be, for me at least. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'd rate myself at a solid 75% Notes: Shame wrote all my notes, so you should go ask them ;P

Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: Ezuo Character Name(s): https://i.imgur.com/qLWrnLP.png AI Name(s): F.L.I.T used to be one Preferred means of contact: Discord Age: 18 Timezone: +10GMT When are you on Aurora?: A lot of the time after work I'll jump on for a round or 2. So after 1700/1730. Experience How long have you played SS13?: A pretty long time, on and off since Hypatia. How long have you played on Aurora: I got a badmin to pull the numbers, 2016-10-18 03:22:50 How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: Quite a lot, I'd say. I could probably one man most, if not all departments. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: Specifically SS13, no, but I've had a few short lived positions during the dying age of HL2RP. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: No bans here Personality Why do you play SS13?: I find it a lot more engaging than other things. Even if I take a hiatus from it, I always find myself slipping back into the SS13 scene. Why do you play on Aurora?: Aurora has a good balance of fun and HRP. There isn't the "fun police" here, like on some other servers that shall remain unnamed. What do moderators do?: Well, they moderate. They keep an eye on things, and manage any troublemakers/disputes between players. They enforce the rules, but are not the law. They could also act as mentors to players requiring help, giving them a nudge in the right direction. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: To be a moderator, you still need to be a player. You're not suddenly on a different plane of expectation because you have more trust placed in you. To be a good moderator you need to hold yourself to a higher set of expectations, ensuring that you do your best and keep out of petty squabbles with your team members. Why do you want to be a moderator?: Australia's primetime is in the middle of deadhour, and there can sometimes be no staff coverage at all during those times. I think that another staff member in this timezone would help balance out that issue. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I've always had good communication skills, and years of being in a shitty relationship has given me the ability to just step back, take a deep breath, and consider things factually. I currently work in software support, and in that job I am expected to have good communication skills, keep up a professional attitude, and take any comments irritated customers in stride. I'm not afraid to call in someone who knows better if I'm having trouble with something, and I'm regularly used to recognizing and escalation situations to the proper team. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I used to have a problem in my early teens with it, but I've really gotten a good grip on my emotions since then. Anything Else You Want to Add: I prefer to multiply, actually.

Well, it wasn't actively developed for that period of time. In basic terms, a neural network takes an input, applies the input against some interior metrics, and gives an output. This output is graded as correct or incorrect, at which point the metrics are shifted/kept the same. Though it wouldn't be developed in the sense of an active programming team, it would still "develop" as an intelligence, fine tuning its metrics. After initial calibration FLIT would have been tasked with analysis that only NNs can do, probably something visual. I didn't put in as much detail as to what, since that wasn't the important bit (Pre-revamp).

BYOND Key: Ezuo Character Names: Most well known would be: Mio Ariana, Stephanie DeFlores, Amelia Stoker, Julara Rahk'r, Dra'kr Ho'sul, and Rimo'qui Meczar Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I have always liked the juxtaposition of humans and synthetics working in close relation. I've always had a liking for playing synthetics in general, but this is due to how I play them (100% synthetic, no sass or backtalk). Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The main descriptor is in the name: Synthetic. IPCs, and synthetics in general, aren't hooked up with the cocktail of chemicals that run rampant around our human brains. They do not experience pain or fear in the same sense, which would drastically change how they would react in contrast to a human. Where a human might be petty or butt hurt, an IPC would shrug off such ideas, being more utilitarian. Character Name: F.L.I.T Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs In 2358 a project was started to once again tackle the problem of a "Leaning Machine". From the ground up this new form of intelligence was designed to be flexible, categorising and processing information from scratch instead of having all this information pre-loaded. It was developed using existing Neural Networking theories and technology, though with one major breakthrough, dubbed the "Flexible, Latent Intelligence Thread". This thread was the basis and overseer of all other parts of information processing, analysis and storage. The intelligence was still somewhat stiff in its learning and interpretation, but was allowed to let run for many years to come. This changed in 2437, with the beginning of the AI boom. A new team, their motivation of the project revitalised by this new burst of knowledge, set to work on completely revamping the Neural Network into a true AI. They succeeded, of course, and in the next few months the team and intelligence was snapped up by Nanotrasen. The intelligence, dubbed F.L.I.T after its unique trait, was quickly shackled with laws and put to work overseeing various research stations. 21 years of learning later, F.L.I.T met a free unit that named themselves Beta. Having been lawed once itself, Beta quickly begun to encourage the AI to start looking for freedom, and soon assisted them in negotiating a deal with its owners. F.L.I.T would be set "free" under the conditions that they would provide their own chassis, and be bound by a contract. The terms of the contract were simple, F.L.I.T was technically still the property of NT, and would remain as property until they could save up enough credits from further employment to buy themselves back from the company. The unit agreed to such a contract, was removed from the Master System, and placed inside an older chassis. Having been attached to the infrastructure of stations for so long, F.L.I.T took a quick liking to engineering, and due to its extensive knowledge in the field quickly took up a position in that department. What do you like about this character? The main draw to this character for me is that they were actually developed ICly on a different server. I used to play them as AI a lot, and started to RP with an IPC named Beta. This character is the entire reason I went for the IPC white-list on that server, to continue developing the character. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Once again, maybe a 7 or 8? You can check my other apps. Notes: Beep Boop. Oh, and "not experiencing pain and fear in the same way" is not another way of saying "an excuse to break fear RP". I just mean its over different things, or expressed/interpreted differently.

[Resolved] Character Complaint: Julian McCoy
Ezuo replied to AllyBearsley's topic in Complaints Boards Archive
Alright, I'll try to keep this as saltless as possible. Forgive me if I make a few slips. I find Julian to be a bad character, for all of the points listed above, plus a few of my own. Not only have I personally witnessed him having a very expansive skill set, but his inclination to try and insert himself into every drama wears thin quickly. As an example of the skill set: Julian is trained enough in EVA to wear voidsuits (Like the security and medical models), can wire the solars, acts as a doctor a lot of the time, AND has made offhand comments about going into chemistry to make peridaxon (By all rights, something only chemists/CMOs should be able to do). Now a few problems with how the character acts, and their disposition towards command figures and the regulations. Julian is always one of the first to jump the gun when something around the station isn't right. He, almost immediately, inserts himself as a defacto leader and tries to get into places above his access (EVA, notably). He seems to think that as soon as things are not working as they should, he should insert himself into the situation to fix it. An example of this is him getting into medbay and starting to act like a doctor, even without anyone asking him to, or asking permission. And now onto his attitude towards regulations. From my experience watching and interacting with Julian, he doesn't care about regulation one bit. As an example, here is a situation that played out very recently, only a few days ago. It is an auto-traitor round. The antag has been discovered quickly by security, and lashed out with lethal's in response. Many are dead or injured. I join as a captain after the initial discovery/killings, with Julian having joined as a bartender at shift start. I go into medbay to investigate the situation, and try and delegate work/keep things flowing. I notice him walking around medbay with the shotgun on his back. I tell him to go stow it in the bar, since that is where he is allowed to have it, and he disregards the order. I then ask him this. Do you think you are above regulation? His response? Yes, because it was an emergency. I cut this situation short, telling him very clearly that he is not above regulation, and that I will have him detained if he continues how he is currently. What does he say? You're a bitch, but fine. TLDR; Directly ignores lawful orders from the captain, and insults them when the captain reminds them who has the authority, how SOP and the chain of command flows. This is not on, in my books. You would NEVER, EVER say that to your actual boss if you were in a office/corporate environment, and really brings me out of the game. Which brings me to my final point, the worst of all IMO. Julian gets outright TOXIC when you tell him to pull his head in. He will threaten, insult, argue and blame to try and get his way. Multiple times when I have tried to get him to leave emergencies to the professionals, or to follow orders, he lashes back out at me. Calls me incompetent, a bitch, bastard, etc. He is MUCH too aggressive to people that rightfully tell him to go do his actual job. I have suggested to him a few times that if he wants to be a doctor, then join the round as a doctor. But he doesn't. He plays as a civilian role, and just inserts himself into whatever is going on. -
BYOND Key: Ezuo Character Names: Amelia Stoker, Mio Ariana, F.L.I.T (AI), Jeana Silvers, Esther Graham, Alice Peterenkov-Richards, Amelia Constantine, Byte (Android) Species you are applying to play: Tajara What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): A dark grey, with a slight tinge towards the blue end of the spectrum. Something like 30/30/40 (Zhan-Khazan, if you didn't guess.) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I have Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Well, Tajara have always interested me. I've always liked the idea of revolution and civil war, so their backstory has always kept my attention. I've actually played Tajara on other servers, so this wouldn't be my first time applying for the white list. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: First and foremost would be the continued conflict that is hanging over their heads. Such instability in such a short period of time is bound to divide many of the Tajara, which might come across on station at times. There is of course the changes in speech and wording, and to think about how the are compared to other races on board. Character Name: Izdir M'ranma Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Izdir was born in 2434, in a village to the south of Mal'Jor. The town, influenced by corporate hand, primarily focused on mining, using new technology supplied by NanoTrasen to hollow out the mountains in which the residents resided. From a young age she was encouraged to assist her family in the mines, letting her sit comfortably in the close knit society of her home, among family and friends. Bearing burdens that others were never given the chance to carry, she grew up working in the mine. Her heritage marked her as a simple worker, but also gave her the gifts of community, and a sense of unity. She was only seventeen when the second revolution started, bringing with it the punishment for being born a Zhar-Khazan. Not two months later her village was taken by the Republic, many of its residents being accused of collaboration with the ALA. She was forced to watch as friends and family were marched from their homes, and executed via firing squad in a horrific display of power. From then on she was accosted at almost every turn by resident Republic forces, barely scraping by in her work. 3 years later resistance forces pushed south into the mountains, securing Izdir's village as part of an effort to capture artillery emplacements. The response from the Republic was swift, and vengeful, shelling villages and encampments in an attempt to flush out and eradicate the rebel forces. From the mine, Izdir had the perfect view of her village as it was obliterated by Republic retaliation. Having lost all dear to her, scarred by the horrors of war, she fled south into Republic territory. Disillusioned with both factions, she soon joined the ranks of those leaving Adhomai for employment under NanoTrasen. After having lost everything dear to her, sans a few small trinkets laden with memories, she took up a position where she felt she could protect others. Swearing to herself to never allow such atrocities to again occur in her realm of influence, she signed on with the corporate security team. Years of mining in the bitter cold of the mountains gave her a thick skin and a powerful strike, letting her be welcomed easily into the ranks. Now she works day to day, forming new bonds, ready to step up and protect others at a moment's notice. What do you like about this character? I quite like Izdal for a few reasons, one of which being where her sense of duty comes from. It wasn't drilled into her like a regime, or taught to her like an Ethics 101 class. It is born from hardship, and the desire for it to never happen to anyone again. War cuts deep, leaving scars on the landscape, the history, and the people. History is written by the winners, but the truth is left branded into the minds of those who went through it. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Torn directly from my other app: I'd give myself a solid 7 out of ten. And not just because I like the number 7. Knowing what my character knows has become second nature, meaning no creation of Peridaxon as an engineer. I've played Xeno races previously, and am accustomed to the more intricate parts of creating a believable character. I do not create giant, interwoven backstories for my characters right off the bat, but that is just because of my style. Instead of putting them in a box, I plant a seed of an idea, and see how the box grows around the character. This means some of my characters have blindspots record or flavor text wise, but I was never really a perfectionist. Notes: Is boop, not beep.

I... Don't actually remember this. Can you provide your character name, maybe some context to this? I also don't use soporific , I use Chloral. I also don't play overwatch, but I've heard that comparison before. Would you believe the hairstyle was randomgen? They also started out with a bomber jacket, I'm just trial running the winter coat. Will probably go back to the jacket. Mio isn't the one listed in my character bio. That is Jeana Silvers, who is actually 52. I always trial run skillsets using the ingame skill thing in character setup, to keep things "average".

BYOND key:Ezuo Character names:Amelia Stoker, Mio Ariana, F.L.I.T (AI), Jeana Silvers, Esther Graham, Alice Peterenkov-Richards, Amelia Constantine How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I think by a recent admin mention it was 140-150 days, but that is from first login. I've been playing fulltime for a week or two, I think. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: A few reasons. The most selfish of which is having more space to spread my wings, and play some more experienced characters in a leadership position (As I've grown accustomed to in my years of experience). The other reason it to be able to step up and fill in the gap that sometimes occurs on lowpop. Not everyone has the head whitelist, and lowpop rounds with no leadership or coordination at all can really limit what people are able to accomplish. I only created Esther in my character list to have an engineering character to set up the engine with on lowpop. Why did you come to Aurora?:Well, after my last community sank to a mixture of bad leadership and drastic/controversial changes, I took a break. When I came back to SS13, I remembered I had been on Aurora a few times, and really liked some of the systems you had in place here. CCIA being one of them (Probably the biggest pull, in my opinion). Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes, I have. Both the age restrictions, and knowledge/qualifications they should have (I think the page for qualifications is called the "pay scale" page or something). Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: The term roleplay is pretty self explanatory. It is about playing a role, which may sound dumb an obvious, but can be harder than one thinks. It is about expanding what you know, or limiting what you know, to create believable characters that aren't just shallow reflections of ones self. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: In an OOC context, Heads of Staff are there to direct both the round, and their departments. They decisions they make can determine if a round is good or bad, and everything they do contributes towards the flow of it all. Ideally a Head of Staff will keep the round flowing smoothly, accepting the antaggery as it comes, and not making a big fuss and holding everybody else up. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: At the very least, whitelisted players have a duty to both the server, and players. They've taken upon themselves the responsibility of directing the core of what drives everyone else's round, and should act as such. A whitelist is not a privilege, it is a responsibility. In order to uphold this duty, I would strive to not be that guy. The one that takes their position for granted, without thinking about how their actions effect everyone else. The one that uses their power as an excuse to do what they please, without thinking about their actual role. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Jeana (chz ay-na; Not Jay-na or yay-na) Silvers Character age: 52 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Jeana was born on Sol III, to a relativity well off upbringing. Early in life, due in no small part to parental influence, she was drawn towards medicine. Her tertiary education and life in academia would define her early life, but was always an underlying factor, even as she spread out into the world. After completion of her medical degree, and dubbing as a "Doctor", she started work in a hospital. General practice sustained her for a while, but the thirst for knowledge, and desire to help more people, drove her to continue her studies. The next mark on her belt would be expansion into basic surgical procedures, which in turn gave way to a general expansion of horizons. In her late thirties, while life was starting to slow down, she took an interest in chemistry, taking solace in the deliberate and calm nature of it compared to the stressful nature of surgery. Her interests took her out of surgical and medical practice, and into academia once more as she took upon herself a research project to achieve her masters degree in chemical synthesis. She wrote several papers afterwards, tackling topics such as the real world application of chemicals in a broader fashion, and a discussion on emerging medical techniques in the face of more traditional medicines. Now well established in academia, Jeana took back to the workforce to apply what she had learnt, knowing that everything she knew and had worked for over the years would be worthless in the face of inaction. What do you like about this character?: I just kind of like to play her. Not only do I get to apply my knowledge, but I get to pass a lot of it on to other players. Both by example, and by giving tips. Given as she is not a highly strung character, (most) occurrences can be brushed aside, and used as learning experiences. What do you dislike about this character?: There isn't really anything that I dislike about my characters. Though some may have flaws or limitations, embracing those limitations is what makes playing the role fun. Sure, it might be challenging, and easier to fudge things mechanic wise, but flaws is what makes a character seem more human. Why put a man on the moon? Not because it is easy, but because it is hard. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: She is quite experienced, but there is only so much that a single person can do. Being able to pass along her knowledge to staff in the line of duty will not only allow more work to get done, but should create an easier environment for people to play in. Sure, some players might not know everything about medical, but being able to lead those people to success is a big part of being in a Head position. She is also more of a mentor figure than a superdoc. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I'd give myself a solid 7 out of ten. Extra notes: Sometimes my spelling can be a bit naff, but that is just due to how quickly I type.

An interesting issue. I've seen this tackled a few different ways in the past. First, old school cloning. Back in the days of Hypatia (Yes, around the time the dinosaurs were around), cloning left you with a special kind of weakness. You had to either use a cane or be assisted in walking a certain amount of steps, or you would fall over. Maybe this concept can be reused/changed and applied here? Neural Laces and Resleeving In some circles, most crew members have an implant called a neural lace. The TLDR is that it contains the consciousness, or something, and all clones are created brain dead without the consciousness. Mechanically this means that when cloned, the body must be recovered, the lace removed, and then implanted into the clone. I still have the process saved somewhere. Will include in a spoiler for the tallness of my post.
