  1. I honestly thought Araa was already whitelisted as CMO they do a good job as it. They definitely deserve a shot to play it properly.
  2. Hey there sorry for the delay. I talked with you on the discord a little about the problems with this app. Namely the mentioning of interacting with many hives and the history of violence. I'm looking forward to reading your revisions you said you would do and sorry for the delayed response.
  3. This document was integral to the initial revert changes I have made, but thanks for the suggestions included in it. As for the VR in game I'm unsure there is any real way to include it outside of the Unbound talking about it and role playing the absence of it.
  4. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated and have given me some good ideas for where I want to take the lore in the upcoming weeks. I have updated the Wiki page with a preliminary revert (and some additions) and will be using this thread for advice and helpful ideas like yours Diggey for where to take them in the future. Thank you for taking the time to write so much and let me know what it is you're looking for in this species.
  5. I've mostly reverted the Vaurca lore to pre-chev with some of the quality of life additions chevs lore added and some minor additions throughout. Will be updating this further throughout the coming weeks. https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Vaurca
  6. Hey everyone, I'm the new Vaurca Loredev and I am looking for some opinions on what interests all of you about Vaurca. Now I will be reverting most of the current lore back to LordFowl's last update ( https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php?title=Vaurca&oldid=5354 ) and expanding from there. I have some ideas of where I want to go which can be found in my Loredev application ( https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=8891 ) however I am keen to hear what the community wants. So, here are some questions I'd love to hear from both Vaurca players and those just interested in Vaurca: What draws you towards playing Vaurca? What do you like and what do you dislike about the current lore? What changes would you make if you were in my position? Thanks! Any feedback will be greatly helpful.
  7. Truthfully Ive only seen two other Vaurca characters and both were also Bound (I play a bound Vaurca). I think Id like to poll the playerbase on what would interest them in the unbound as to be honest a lot of the warrior poet stuff from the current lore for Unbound needs to go.
  8. For the Vaurca in Tau Ceti I want to really emphasise the stress they're under as poor, unemployed refugees in a system that only barely tolerates them. While I think obviously back in Sol things would be much worse for the Vaurca I also believe that their status as terrifying slumming refugees taking up human resources in Tau Ceti to be a source of derision from their hosts. Firstly I think some depth about the various Zo'ra broods in district 9 of Mendell City could be expanded, while traditionally a hive would work well together the fact that these broods have so little at their disposal would bring up tensions between broods themselves leading to squabbling and even fighting between the impoverished factions. This could lead to interesting situations of what would be the equivalent of "gang fights" or such other conflicts within the Vaurca district that would spill out into human areas furthering the mistrust of Vaurca in the eyes of other species. For the Zo'ra brood on New Gibson I like the idea of them having more bound vaurca than the other Vaurca broods (whose bound population wouldve been culled a fair amount) due to the planet being an industrial powerhouse for Tau Ceti, as such these free workers would be common and utilised in exchange for the unbound getting to stay there which I believe to have New Gibson settlements be a lot nicer than those on Biesel and the disdain towards Vaurca there be lessened in comparison. I think the K'lax should remain closely tied with the Unathi who host them with the unbound adapting more to Unathi culture as well as the bound being more responsive to orders given from Unathi than Humans. I'd also like to ramp up the tension between K'lax and Zo'ra with unbound generally greatly disliking those from another hive and the bound refusing to listen to orders from Vaurca of another hive. I'd imagine the K'lax would be more rare in Tau Ceti than Zo'ra so unbound K'lax would probably be eager to prove theyre more valuable over their more prevalent Zo'ra cousins. As for attitude I do like the idea that the K'lax remain more spiritual than the Zo'ra who seem more pragmatic but I'd want to reduce the importance of it. (please no mamaz milk stuff) As for Lii'dra I kinda like them as they are, as a mystery boogeyman that the Zo'ra and K'lax Vaurca are afraid of but dont really speak of. Just the idea that these creepy bugmen have another variation that scares the shit out of them gives a sense of impending dread which I think is ideal.
  9. I've never seen it enforced against me. Every time I thought some IC action would occur and it hasn't yet, clearly those who play sec just dont care.
  10. As a Vaurca player I am sick of Security flashing me when many other forms of stun or apprehension are available. A security officer should know and be trained not to flash a Vaurca and blind them. Ive been flashed when handcuffed multiple times, Ive been flashed into blindness for looking at an officer for too long. Ive been flashed when coming willingly. There needs to be rules against this because no amount of IC interaction makes a difference and it still consistently happens. Obviously if I was a direct violent threat it wouldnt bother me getting flashed but it never is they just flash Vaurca to blindness either because they dont care or they dont know that it blinds vaurca in which case they shouldnt be allowed to handle a flash.
  11. Because I genuinely want to do it, there's no harm in putting my name forward even if the chances aren't likely.
  12. It's a very fair concern and one I definitely understand. Truthfully given this circumstance I never held any true esteem in this application but mostly wanted it to be known te interest was out there, whether to help however I can or to be known for the future that I care about the state of at least the Vaurca lore. I imagine if I got the position and ten got in trouble again I'd have to leave the position immediately which seems obvious and fair. If people don't trust me or don't believe I'm up for the task that's fair and i understand why but personally I wouldn't apply Igbo I didn't think I could do it.
  13. Ckey/BYOND Username: rabbittabbit Position Being Applied For Vaurca Loredev Past Experiences/Knowledge: None relevant to SS13. If you were chosen for Lore Developer, what would your plans be for Vaurca? -Development of Vaurca settlements within Biesel space -Development of Human reaction to Vaurca Presence, particularly those from Sol -Clarification of differences between Bound and Unbound Vaurca as well as the personalities of each. -Establish clear differences between the different Hives and develop inter-hive relationships Would you embark on major or minor rewrites of Vaurca lore? If yes, why is your rewrite worth it? I think the most important first step is to revert the to old Vaurca lore, Pre Chev. Most people seem unhappy with the new Vaurca lore and having read through the old lore I also agree that it is much better and much more fitting how Vaurca are portrayed and seen by others. From here I think incremental changes and developments adding onto the good base that old lore is. I also think it is important to survey and discuss what Vaurca players themselves want and also those who have shown interest in Vaurca. As loredev it's important to gauge what the community wants from a species and to incorporate that into the lore rather than write for your own desires. I'd also like to say that I am very new to this community and don't expect any real chance of this app being the winning one, however from playing my Vaurca character I've grown quite attached to the species and would love to see it fleshed out in a way that is understood and well liked by the playerbase. Whether I get to do this myself or see someone else do it it doesn't matter to me but at the very least I'd like to show my interest for Vaurca lore and the betterment of it.
  14. As a Vaurca player Canon's plans are everything I want for Vaurca lore and more plus he has sizeable experience and confidence of the playerbase. +1
  15. I'm just worried my bound Vaurca orderly type wont fit as this new "medical resident" role
  16. I'm aware of the recent name change from Nursing Intern to Medical Resident and I understand the reasoning but I'd like it if there was an Alternate title with less responsibility such as Orderly. I know orderlies usually refer to assistants who help in medbay but a dedicated option to have them be an orderly with medical access would be great especially for my Bound Vaurca character who isn't really mentally present enough to ever be a full doctor.
  17. I've been waiting on the Loredev to respond to my Bound Vaurca app for 5 days now but reading through the new and old lore respectively I realise that reverting would not change my App at all and also that the old lore seems to just make more sense. Its not as longwinded as new lore but the new lore just seems less thematically unified and more "lets make bug hippies"
  18. Ive tried to send this message twice before and it seems not to be going through. Everything is good, I'd like to drop the complaint. I believe this matter to be sorted.
  19. Reading your comment I see your side of it and while I'm happy to accept your side of the second incident a second well advice your reasoning for the first I am still frustrated that you dragged me from the medbay despite the medborg and the doctor telling you my treatments wasn't done and I could easily die Igbo taken back to the brig. This feels reckless and like you were putting My life on the line to get back to other aspects of your job.
  20. BYOND Key: rabbittabbit Game ID: bP3-cn05 and the round previous to it Player Byond Key: Unsure, character name was Vieniamin Sokolov Staff involved: datberry, SirCatnip Reason for complaint: I was Randy McKinner this round. Vieniamin Sokolov over two seperate rounds (with me playing as two separate characters) showed gross incompetence and negligence as Warden and is clearly not fit for the role. First time I was an arrested cult member in the brig for attempted murder, which I was guilty for. However I had some mystery infection that was ravishing my body and I was getting worse by the minute. I was taken to the medbay after begging Vieniamin Sokolov for minutes. The doctors worked on me for a short time but Vieniamin Sokolov decided he didnt want to wait guarding me anymore and despite both the doctor and the medical borg who were working on me saying I could die if I was removed and they were not finished Vieniamin Sokolov dragged me back to the brig and through me into a cell without medical help. I didnt receive further medical attention until later in the round when I begged a different officer for help and they forced the warden to get me help. I was Brick Ratcliff this round. The second round I was (at the time, I later asked to be removed from the round due to this incident) a Loyalist talking to the chaplain about Nanotrasen. She got spooked which is fine and ran out of her office trapping me in. Regardless of me running and angle or not I was imprisoned illegally as I made no attempt to hurt her. This is kidnapping/false imprisonment and a crime. The officer who arrived gave the details to the warden who decided I was guilty of slander for calling the Chaplain who imprisoned me a traitor, which since I was imprisoned by her isn't an unfair thing to say. The warden Vieniamin Sokolov refused to listen to my side of things and said whatever I said was a lie. No investigation or pretense of listening to me was ever done. At which point I was brigged. Later on the round went to shit anyway as I converted some people to loyalist then suggested we kill someone and was immediately arrested by the people I converted. But that isnt really related to Vieniamin Sokolov Did you attempt to adminhelp the issue at the time? If so, what was the known action taken by administration/moderation? Yes I did, both times I was told curtly to "solve it ICly" despite Vieniamin Sokolov's actions being negligent, lazy and barely qualifying as roleplaying.
  21. Can someone please, please update the revolutionary game mode wiki to actually include information about the Loyalist side of it. I'm a new player here and this server works entirely differently than any Ive played on before. I just played a round as a head loyalist with no information but the opening "You are loyal to NT, you are an antag" message at the start. Due to this I played it as a standard team antag, unaware of anything other than the opening message and as such ended up spending most of the round in prison for telling the loyalists I converted to kill someone I believed wanted to work against the station/be a traitor. This made no sense to me and ahelping it only lead to Alberyk and Aboshehab being brisk with me and linking the Revolutionary wiki which doesnt help me understand the Loyalist side to it at all. While, although they were being difficult and treating me like I was arguing about something, I /think/ I understand the Loyalist side to it now information should be put up somewhere easy and readable so such mistakes dont happen in the future. I also dont think the opening "you are an antag" message should be there as its clear antag behaviour isnt really allowed as a Loyalist.
  22. BYOND Key: RabbitTabbit Character Names: Patton Mcloskey, Randy McKinner Species you are applying to play: Bound Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Default Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: A bound Vaurca is very much like a robot, follows orders and is very sterile with its responses. However unlike a something that is programmed to be logical and more or less perfect, a bound Vaurca is flawed. It can get confused, it communicates poorly but in the end it will still try to follow the orders given to it to the best of its ability. Where a borg or an IPC or what have you may take some initiative or communicate properly with whomever it reports to a Vaurca may not be smart enough to do so to the same ability. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: They're very different from a human, little sense of self, little ambition or initiative. Follows orders but is bad at comprehension. Poor communication. As well as the physical differences and needing for Phoron refreshment. Character Name: Ka'Viax'Ika'te Zo'ra Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Before coming into the possession of Nanotrasen this Vaurca slave was found in the service of a group of particularly rowdy Unbound Zo'ra Vagabonds. While they had convinced the hive they were intending to learn about the intricacies of human culture, art and spoken word they spent a good portion of the time simply working for humans and blowing their money on so called important human experiences. Whatever they may have been Ika'te didn't know as he was often left behind. Predominantly the Vagabonds used Ika'te for heavy lifting and for patching them back up when they inevitably hurt themselves trying out something new and exciting, he was very much a slave who they looked down upon. They even gave him the name Ika'te, replacing his previous Tzata, literally meaning idiot as he was prone to misunderstanding orders or not carrying them out in the intended manner. Ika'te, being very literal and distractable would always listen only to the last person who spoke to him, much to the chagrin and sometimes entertainment of his captors. Eventually, the Vagabond masters bit off more than they could chew and while visiting Biesel ended up getting in a physical altercation with a group of Nanotrasen officials. Facing punishment, likely harsher than usual based on general human disdain for Vaurca in general, the group managed to bribe their way out of the situation with a large sum of credits and transfer of Ika'te into Nanotrasen service. Now Ika'te has found assignment to the NSS Aurora, often as assisstants to various departments (Lab Assisstant, Engineering Assisstant, Medical Orderly) or if they can find no better use for him merely a Janitor, as he is one incapable of complaining about undesirable jobs. What do you like about this character? He's very inhuman, he's sterile and robotic and just does what he's told. However he's also stupid, can't communicate well in Tau Ceti Basic and will only listen to the last person to give him orders (obviously ignoring things that encourage him to be violent or risk injury). He is one that will get the job done, but only after doing the wrong job twice until what is wanted of him is properly explained. As an assisstant he would also be insistent to receive a job, rather than sit and wait for orders he would request them... even if he then misunderstands. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Poor-Medium. I can hold conversations and stick to my character but obviously Ive made mistakes and had issues with believability and self antagging. Notes: I don't know where to find these.
  23. Don't intend to be a pest or to beat a dead horse but I assume this appeal is denied?
  24. This is very helpful advice, thank you. After this incident I've gotten a lot of advice regarding what I did wrong. Admittedly I'm not good at understanding what is and isn't HRP and a lot of my initial advice was vague and from people who have been doing this for years but something like this (and some advice I got elsewhere) is really helping me understand. I feel at least part of my issue was wildly changing my character between rounds while always needing to be the centre of attention, I'm used to during slow rounds or extended to performing minor greytide to have reason to interact/argue with security. I see now this isnt the type of place for that and the idea of "play a character as if you were actually just hired on an expensive and far off space station" was lost on me. Theres a lot of things that still don't quite click or seem arbitrary to me at this stage but even I can clearly see that breaking into chemistry because nobody was there within 2-3 minutes isnt the way to go, especially somewhere where 2-3 hour rounds isn't unusual. Im very used to 20-40 minute rounds where if you want to do anything other than survive antag it needs to be done immediately. This is again me failing to adjust and take things slow. I'm trying to learn and fit in here, I've had some amazing positive RP experiences here already, mostly from those that are more experienced but it's been fun. I should accept that as a "realistic" work environment not everything is quick and handy, sec will have flaws and be slow to respond sometimes and people will do stuff thats interesting for a rounds plot without breaking shit like I was. I'm sorry for shitting up your server.
