  3. Without clicking that I'm gonna guess it's the Game Theory episode, and it is an interesting watch if that's the case. As for Aurora, the overwhelming majority are stereotypical lipstick lesbians played by teenaged / low twenties men who are afraid of RPing a proper relationship and would rather obscure a relationship behind a (not so subtle) fetish. Not a very convincing case.

  5. I can't give you a fix, but I can confirm you aren't the only one suffering this issue. Don't worry, you've done nothing wrong unless there's a message giving you a reason for being banned rather than just "Connection Failed."

  7. Given the nature of what caused my disappearance I didn't know I'd be gone so long and didn't want to make a big deal about not being around like some people seem to feel the need to, but you aren't wrong, I definitely should have at least mentioned it to someone higher up in the staff; I don't mind admitting that.
  8. Basic Information Byond Account: GlamourChariot Character Name(s): Alysa Mills, Zinaida Langford AI Name(s): N/A Preferred means of contact: Skype Age: 19 Timezone: UTC +10, Australia When are you on Aurora?: As before my lengthy absence, I will be around mostly during the dead hours of the server as well as throughout the day as my free time permits. Experience How long have you played SS13?: A year and a bit How long have you played on Aurora: Also a year and a bit How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: A fair amount. Capable of playing just about any mechanically demanding job on the station, including all of science and engineering. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: I have moderated on Aurora for about a year before my demotion due to inactivity. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: N/A Personality Why do you play SS13?: I enjoy the stories that are created and shared by the community, learning the quirks of characters and developing relationships with them as I strive to usher my characters as close to being real people as is possible. The science fiction setting, the aliens, and all of the goofy extras the game has packed in really give it a charm that not even dead serious RP can kill. Why do you play on Aurora?: I began SS13 on Aurora and haven't played on any other server since I started, it is what introduced me to a roleplaying medium I adore and I've had no reason to leave thus far. I've met a lot of great people on this server, and while it's had its ups and down I still want nothing more than to assist in furthering the well being of the community and the server as a whole. What do moderators do?: Moderators exist to deal with griefers, new players needing help and just about anything else requiring enough power to police without holding the ability to completely change the rules of the server. Their duty is to protect the civil roleplaying environment expected of the server, dealing with troublesome individuals as needed while striving to appear as role models for the regular denizens. Enforce rules, help those in need. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: As a moderator you should be willing and able to forgo your own roleplaying experience to ensure that of the rest of the server is kept to a standard that maintains the entertainment value of the game for those playing it. This means talking to people causing issues in OOC, helping new players that don't understand why beating someone over the head with a toolbox is wrong, and helping old players that don't understand why beating someone over the head with a toolbox is wrong. Why do you want to be a moderator?: Having moderated on the Aurora for around a year I've noticed that I far more enjoy watching from the sidelines while keeping the environment clear of any unneeded toxicity, dealing with griefers and talking to other staff about issues on the server are effectively what I came to enjoy the game for even more so than the aforementioned enjoyable roleplaying. In the end, I just really enjoy helping people, and as a moderator it is your duty to help people. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I am calm, refuse to make assumptions without ample proof, always try to get every side of the story and am quite open minded. On more than one occasion I have thought myself stalwart on an opinion only to be given more information, taking it into account and moving my stance as necessary. I feel my drive to help others assists my dedication to the job, and I often dealt with individuals causing trouble that other staff felt iffy about touching in my previous time as a moderator. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: With ease. I find it quite easy to keep a calm head and think logically in situations even where I am bombarded with insults and negativity, trying to find the best possible solution to a problem without taking to heart whatever the situation may be. I still hold true to my belief that if you respond to negativity with more negativity, the cycle will only go on. I always aim to break that cycle. Anything Else You Want to Add: With love, ;:v
  9. Nothing. I am literally perfect at roleplaying. As for those things others do that earn my ire whether reasonable or not, well...

  11. I don't support this application at all. I don't believe anyone that isn't in current, full time employment should have anything ERT related. If you're just a random volunteer in reserves or someone that doesn't even work for them at the time, I don't believe you should have any ERT related items. As well as this, full time employment on-station as a job as important as Engineer or especially even Chief Engineer isn't something I'd agree with ever allowing to ALSO be part of the ERT. However, this is solely my opinion and not one I'd imagine would be entirely popular with those that wish to play this kind of character.
  12. Absolutely not. If you ever want to do something you believe may be questionable, ahelp it. A lot of the time if you have an interesting and reasonable idea the staff will absolutely allow and even encourage such behavior, where applicable.
  13. Absolutely zero promises, but I'm pretty sure we've spoken about doing this briefly quite recently.
  14. While I'm sure the apology is appreciated by anyone affected, I still feel like everyone is making way too big a deal of everything. All the "BAH IM LEAVING" and "IM SO SORRY" and whatever else srs bsns drama people are doing is kinda unnecessary and just feeds the idea of the community going to shit when it really isn't. If all you do is prowl the forums, sure, there's some toxicity and pettiness that needs weeding out, and the staff are sorting it out in a meeting in a day, but some people seem to be acting like it's the end of days. While it's something that is a real issue, when it comes down to it we're all just people that share a hobby we like. None of this drama actually matters and you can absolutely just play the game ignoring the forums and you'd be none the wiser. We're sorting out the issue because the forum is an important outlet for the community and I'd expect the staff care about preserving an enjoyable atmosphere throughout all aspects of it, not because it'd be the end of the world if we didn't. I dunno, just my 2 cents.

  16. I have brown belts in Karate and Jujutsu, though I only still attend the latter. Kinda sad I've never actually been able to use it outside of sparring, though. Would be interested to see how much it'd affect the outcome of a fight compared to someone lacking training.
  17. Thing is, racism exists to this day and people don't get fired for it. You just have to be more subtle than constantly asserting your hate for species X verbally, because that's not really how racism works unless you're an extremist. You gotta have a little faith in people that they understand the nuances you're playing if you want to do something like this, or all you end up with is a bad joke character that's nothing but a caricature of a concept; in this case being "that guy that hates xenos".

  19. Issue being that's only like 20% of making the sound. A gunshot is literally about 0.1 of a second of your mic peaking and that's it, and then you have to make that sound "good". Those first two, those are real guns being fired at a range. They sounded a LOT worse before tweaking. @1138 + anyone else that wants to help out If you have files (even low quality ones) that represent the kind of sound you'd like me to aim for, shoot them my way. What I put up are just a starting point, an example. Let me know what kind of thing you guys want and I'll see what I can do. Keep in mind that in game the sounds are compressed in a way that takes the "edge" off them, and they aren't quite as startling as they seem.
  20. Ouch dude, got a much more positive response from the people on TS. Could you perhaps be a little more constructive and go in depth, though? I can't really fix anything if all I have to work with is "0/10 hated them."
  21. As for weapons, I've made a few examples for the fine people of Aurora to peruse and give feedback for. Gunshot (Revolver): Current || Updated SMG: Current || Updated Laser: Current || Updated Laser Cannon: Current || Updated As a general rule of thumb, I tried to stay as close as possible to the "theme" of the original, while giving each updated sound some more nuance and quality.
  22. I actually brought up creating some new unique sounds for the server before, and apparently it's something that people want. So, I may create a few sounds to test the waters, and if the community likes them enough I'll look at seeing if they may be included in a future update. Aside from weapon sounds, are there any kinds of things people particularly want some new sounds for?
  23. Perhaps it would be a positive addition if I explain exactly what happened, as you seem to have very negative view of the staff from the unfortunate circumstances that have taken place, and to be quite frank you're telling it from a "damn those horrid admins and moderators for doing their jobs" perspective and talking about all the 'bad' things that were said while entirely ignoring everything else in order to feed your own negative impressions. So, to clarify. You were asked whether or not you knew how atmospherics worked, and you replied that have a lot of experience with it. Had you told us you didn't know how it worked or were new, you would have been cut some more slack as it's only normal for players new to the game to struggle to understand their wrong doings. We do not ban people for things they simply don't understand, we aren't "anti new player"; however, you specifically stated that you knew what you were doing and therefore took punishments as required. Yes, you ARE lucky to have not been permanently banned. Given your self declared experience with atmospherics the fact that you were pumping lethal gasses through the piping is a red alert for all staff that atmospheric grief is taking place. You have been given the benefit of the doubt, however, and I specifically suggested to you myself that if you were to appeal the jobban that could have been a permanent ban, it would likely be accepted. In closing, I'd ask nothing more than for you to give the staff a little more credit than you may at this time. I understand being banned isn't fun, nor is receiving a black mark on your history for something you may or may not have intended to do. We can't just allow people to go around messing with atmospherics and getting away with it, however, as the potential for a single person to ruin entire rounds for everyone else whether they intend to or not simply isn't a risk we're capable of taking. I support this appeal, even as the one who applied the ban, and I hope this experience shows the severity of not keeping a close eye on one's work in atmospherics.
