Mh, this was a concern. I've tried twice so far to ask Skull about whether having a blunted knife that's useless in combat would be okay, both times he disappeared as I asked. Kinda just threw this up because at least if he saw it he could shoot it down himself.

BYOND Key: GlamourChariot Character name: Shizuo Orihara Item name: Orihara's Balisong Why is your character carrying said item to work? He fancies himself a "cool guy", maintaining skills in far out of date areas such as hand to hand combat and use of bladed weaponry as a way to show off. Given his flare for the fancy, a balisong perfectly fits the bill as an item to display both his fighting prowess and thirst to represent how "badass" he is with unnecessary, though aesthetically pleasing, manoeuvres. Given his role as a bartender, having an item of interest to carry to work would enhance his ability to entertain those on break. Imagine having a drink fancifully served, only for the show to continue as you drink with the bartender flipping a stunt knife with a nearly unreal display of careless precision. The knife would, of course, be absolutely blunted and basically useless as a weapon. Weapons aren't allowed on station. Would prefer, if it did any damage when hitting someone, to deal brute damage so comically low that you'd be better off going bare handed. People wouldn't know this, though, and it could still be used for intimidation should it ever be necessary. This would promote RP by way of him only being capable of using it as a tool of fear rather than posing a real threat. Item function(s): Having the knife in your hand and clicking on it would flick it open, with stylish flavour text posted into chat and a faint clicking noise, much like how the Zippo Lighter works. Clicking on it again when it is open will close it, with flavour text and a noise. With but a flashy twirl of their fingers, [Name] flicks open the balisong. Without even looking, [Name] casually flicks the balisong closed. For the audible aspect I'd suggest reusing the noise for the telebaton. Item description: A small, black butterfly knife with comfortable handles and a mean looking blade. Perfect for dangerous towns where being stylish is just as important as being deadly. Item appearance: As described. Additional comments: Nada

So they can kill the de-pressurization before it kills them? Genius.

So under appreciated...

Basic Information Byond Account: GlamourChariot Character Name(s): Alysa Mills, Zinaida Langford AI Name(s): N/A Skype: [information scrubbed] Age: 19 Timezone: UTC +10 (Australia) When are you on Aurora?: Mixed bag of times, often in the afternoon, all night and in the morning throughout the week. Been playing less often in the last week due to moving around a lot, but major life commitments have passed and I will be returning to play very frequently resuming this weekend. Experience How long have you played SS13?: 3 Weeks-ish How long have you played on Aurora: The same amount of time How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: Able to play fluidly, understand all of the general concepts of the game and can play in all departments with varying capacity, though addmitedly due to not having played the game as long as some I won't be as capable, though it shouldn't be an issue as I'm a very quick learner and always eager to take on criticisms to improve myself and remove any ignorance or false information that may be shown. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: No, though I do have admin experience for various other servers for games such as CSS and Gmod, among others, if that counts for anything. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: N/A Personality Why do you play SS13?: I play SS13 as a SciFi based setting for roleplaying the interpersonal interactions between characters in a unique though frequently familiar workplace. SciFi has always been a genre that I've adored, as many others do, and developing relationships and being able to observe the interactions between characters from sometimes vastly different places --even those that are alien-- in a setting as normal as "some research station a giant corperation owns" is an concept interesting in and of itself. With the lore (admittedly needing work, though the lore team is making a valiant effort to iron it out), the various factions and opposing companies can be worked into the characters backstories and weaved into changing who they are and their motivations in the world; with a little more fleshing out there could be some truly interesting stories to be told. Actual gameplay factors into choosing to play SS13, as well. Admittedly clunky, it is still robust and offers a myriad of options and customisability that few games can offer while still promoting a proper roleplay environment. This is why I play SS13. Why do you play on Aurora?: Simply put, Aurora is the only station I've seen that actually takes roleplay seriously. Other servers stick to a vague semblance of roleplay in not letting you randomly kill people for no reason, but outside of that chaos reigns supreme. Aurora is one of the few and possibly only servers that allows you to actually sit down with a character, do your job and have meaningful progression with their personality and relationships without having to worry about a clown space lubing you out an airlock and shooting you in the ass with a laser rifle as you drift into the vast nether beyond. What do moderators do?: Moderators exist to ensure a fun, smooth and griefer free experience for the general folk of the server. They exist to iron out issues and enforce the rules of a server, helping those in need and pulling trouble makers aside to have a talk and deal out any punishments that may be necessary. As a moderator, you are expected to assist your fellow moderators and administrator staff members with issues that arise so that an enjoyable experience can be maintained throughout rounds, keeping a cool head, being as impartial as possible and trying to be as just and fair as possible in any situations that may require use of powers outside of talking things through. You are effectively a positive role model for those of the server to look up to, with some minor powers attached to allow you to assist the server staff in maintaining the desired experience for those who play. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: As was covered earlier, being a moderator means being a role model for others to look up to. If they see your different coloured text in chat and you're breaking the rules through insulting others or otherwise being a nuisance, you are more than likely unfit to be a moderator. You should be someone that is willing to, at times, give up opportunities to play for yourself in order to assist other members of the server with issues that may have arisen, whether through words or action. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I wish to be a moderator because, well.. I enjoy helping people. Nobody likes someone that comes along and ruins others fun, and I am no exception. I believe myself capable, and absolutely willing, to sit out entire rounds if it means I can ensure a fun, rule abiding round free of griefers for the rest of the station to enjoy. The reason for this is as stated before, Aurora is simply the best server, at least by my opinion. I would adore the chance to assist in ensuring a good experience for all those that visit. Promoting a healthy, toxicity free community that thrives for as long as it is capable, so people may no longer fear high player counts. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: The qualities that I believe make up a good moderator. I can remain calm even while being actively berated by numerous sources, calmly defusing situations with words alone as necessary. I have in fact, in the past, had someone who came to me in a pure hateful rage screaming death threats and the like. I merely spoke to them at length about the situation and allowed them to speak their opinion, worked it out with words and we are friends to this day. As mentioned earlier, I also love helping people. It gives me a drive and eagerness to bring positivity that allows me to continue working at an issue until it is solved, giving up anything for myself that may get in the way of said issue. As moderators should put the server's health before their own leisure when available, this is a good outlook to have. I believe good moderators are impartial, free of bias when dealing with issues. As an example, just because you dislike somebody and you get told they did something wrong, you shouldn't ever immediately ban them or think they actually did said thing without any actual evidence. I possess this trait, easily able to detach myself from a situation to hear all sides of the arguments and consider the best course of action logically. I also refuse to believe anything without solid evidence for the case, and as such would never punish somebody without any clear evidence of their foul doings. I am excellent at providing constructive criticism, when necessary. I can accurately point out issues or design flaws in areas that I am well versed in (such as character design) while also giving constructive arguments and giving advice on how to improve on said flaws. There's a fine line between constructive and destructive, which is often mixed up. Some also struggle to actually help, even when able to pick up on flaws. Finally, I am able to accept if I mess up. One of the worst things people do when given a position of power is expect that they are above anyone, and I don't believe that is ever the case. You'll never learn if you don't accept your mistakes, and I willingly accept and will try to improve on any mistakes or falsifications I partake in. As a side note, I also get along with a lot of the current staff, so that could be added as a bonus. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: Exceedingly well. If someone were to attempt to "troll" me, per se, I'd not only pick up on it very quickly, I would also calmly attempt to defuse the situation with a voice of reason and attempt to negotiate as well as possible. If that doesn't work after some time, they're simply refusing to cooperate and will be dealt with as is necessary. I am of the belief that adding any negativity to the world just continues the cycle of dumb, negative stuff that makes it so bad in the first place. Even if someone has done something that could be considered unforgivable to me, I make a point of not disliking them. I don't believe it's ever fair to "hate" someone, or to purposely bring any harm. Call it idealistic, but people are only bad in the first place if they've got a reason to be. I make a point of not giving them a reason. Anything Else You Want to Add: I'm aware it may not be likely I be accepted, as all are given official judgement in the end, but I thought I'd take a stab to get the chance to do what I can to better the server and fill in any positions that may now be vacated. Thanks for taking the time to read this application guyysss. Signed, :v

This is literally what I said when it was brought up before they were created. Yaaaaaaaaaaay

Well there's your problem then.

To be honest this is how everyone would do it, in a perfect world. So yeah, pretty much this. Pretty sure this is more about what you'd give as a general description for your characters though, and in that case, answer is pending.

[Accepted]Kingmatt9's Unathi Whitelist
GlamourChariot replied to kingmatt9's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
I'm not going to +1 or -1 because I've not seen you enough to judge and it just wouldn't be fair, but from your application I'd be leaning towards a -1. "Tragic backstories", as it were, are incredibly overdone in the teenage-male saturated world of the internet. The mention of seducing people and always having characters be "Tall, strong and intelligent" implies creating "hero" or "snowflake" characters, which are boring, done far too often and make you look like you just want attention or to go on an escapist fantasy of being some special amazing person; "seducing" also being something that people do too often for the sake of satisfying their raging teenaged hormones or whatever other reason usually outside of "I wanted to play a womanizing character" or something that actually makes sense within a roleplaying context. They can be done well, don't get me wrong, and people can have miserable / tragic lives. The issue is more not understanding the inherent issues that come along with that kind of life and doing it "just because" rather than having an actual drive and wanting it to be a developed part of their character that is a solid part of who they are. Now this isn't all bad, I guess, but when it all comes together the application is pretty unconvincing when viewed without any other evidence of how suitable you'd be for acceptance. PS: Tajaran and Skrell being harder to RP is absolutely false and kind of a silly thing to say, different races are suited to different people and no one race is "harder" to play, per se. Just what I have to say, take what you want from it. -

Ok Edit because this should probably have more to it than two letters: New nickname of Far "Edgy Master XxX" cry11 -
Why would a race of angry dog-bat people that just want blood and sacrifice work there? Some things we'll never know.

Fun fact: All of my characters suck

Gotta agree with this. There are already too many modes that degenerate into ganking because people can't be trusted.
