  1. I too abuse the emo hairstyles. More "over eye" styles could be nice. You're quickly becoming one of my favourite people. And yeah like I said before, this is something I'd be happy to whip up. Wouldn't be too hard, either. Just need the go ahead that it's actually a worthwhile project, first.
  2. Jack.
  3. I definitely believe in Loow's ability to play a convincing and interesting Skrell. Though I've only come back to roleplaying recently, he has been an absolute stand out player in both tact OOCly and roleplaying ability ICly. In regards to the former, he's always a pleasure to talk to about things and never really comes off as passive aggressive or otherwise standoffish as others have a way of doing. For the latter, I've had the pleasure of many interactions with his recently created IPC, "Jack"; which has shown that he absolutely understands how to create a deep, interesting character with real motivations and ideas rather than making a cardboard cut-out entirely based around a single idea. Jack is multidimensional, has reasonable flaws and otherwise simply represents a great example of a character being an actual person, rather than the personification of a single core idea that is never developed or explored. All in all, seeing how Loow tackles the task of playing an even less human entity would be pretty great. Aaaand that's my endorsement.
  4. I'd be happy to look into implementing this, so as to not bog down the main dev team. Entirely depends on whether or not this is actually accepted as a project or not, though.
  5. lmao you're being so confrontational and I'm trying to agree with you come on man Now I'd just like to suggest that you relax a little and stop being so srs about it because that's how toxic flame wars erupt ;:v
  6. My opinions are in no way representative of the rest of the staff or "da rulez" as such, but here's my outlook on it. 1. I believe that quality RP comes before mechanical prowess, easily. As a heavy RP server the mechanics should exist to server and further the roleplay storytelling experience, whether you're a security officer or a scientist. 2. In a perfect world, it'd universally play to make interesting and unpredictable drama; unfortunately most possess an innate desire to "win" 2a. Given their obvious advantages, security should probably more heavily scrutinized for ganking behaviour than antags, though neither should be able to get away with straight up ganking 3. Not sure I understand the question ;:v 4. Not as much as they do. The entire station is a whole lot more informal than it would realistically be allowed to be, and that just comes from the kind of people we are OOC. I believe more heads should smack down on all the informal language etc especially on general comms, but that's up to the players and would be pretty anti-fun in most people's eyes if actually enforced. 5. Yes, I'd say so. If they want to do anything and they aren't sure of it they can just ahelp it and do whatever they're told they're allowed to. Within reason, the staff isn't likely to hamper your efforts to get fired if you have decent enough reasoning and / or it fosters some interesting RP. Now while I largely agree with what you're getting it, your post does emit a pretty anti-sec vibe and a couple of the points you're asking for us to discuss come off as loaded questions, just a warning. But yeah, I like to foster the srs bsns type RPs that not everyone enjoys, so shrug. No formal sec with good intentions on the outside and subtle mean streaks that you never see, unfortunately. Just vulgar, vulgar mofos.
  7. This is the reason everyone hates nuke and some hate any antag round in general. If the antags and sec could trust each other to actually RP it out instead of trying to be robustlords at each other on sight things would be a lot more interesting. ;:v
  8. Mr. Carton I'm glad both your own and Mr. Saakaht's assertions that it's childish to wish to uphold the high integrity and maturity expected of NanoTrasen employees have been made, as it underlines the very issue that this report wishes to resolve, albeit on a much narrower scale. As you appear to be wildly missing the point in your defence of one who fails to uphold even the most basic standards that have been set by your employer, I will now outline the exact issues that indicate Rathel is not fit for duty. Firstly, her own immature and constant harassment of other staff. This is not acceptable, whether she were completely inept in her other duties or vice versa. Standards are set for a reason, and security officers are expected to be a shining example for all others to follow. They are the protection, they are the idols, they should embody all of the rules they are there to uphold. Rathel has failed once and again to be an idol in the most simple area of standards, respect. Respect for the workplace, respect for the other workers and respect for the company we all work under. Yes, the insults are immature and mean absolutely nothing; however that does not by any means excuse the fact that she is still making them and still failing in her duties. Secondly, despite numerous chances to improve after punishments, she has completely ignored that her behaviour is troublesome and continued to act just as abrasively as she previously had. This is an extremely notable character flaw, in that her lack of respect for her workplace and co-workers carries over to culminate in a lack of respect for NanoTrasen itself. She does not care for improving her behaviour, however simple it would be to just hold her tongue when necessary and act in a calm and professional manner as is expected. You have the nerve to call this report childish for wishing to uphold NanoTrasen's standards while simultaneously lacking the comprehension to see the real issues, do you? Beyond making passive aggressive remarks that completely ignore the issues presented in order to insult me in a round-about manner, all you have accomplished is highlighting the rampant lack of professionalism that appears to be prevalent among a disturbing number employees aboard this station. After all, you are the one sitting there defending someone that is a part of your clique like a child in school lying to get one's friend out of trouble; while I aim to uphold the standards that should be expected of proud NanoTrasen employees. If you wish to play out a fantasy as an odd-ball cop that dances around the line between by the book and vigilante, perhaps you'd be better suited to work planet-side in the slums. If you wish to partake in the honour of working for a professional, well run company however; I'd suggest you step back and take a look at what yourself compared to what is expected of NanoTrasen employees. I appreciate your time. Regards, Z. Langford
  9. Mr. Saakaht You possess an unfortunately high measure of patience, it is quite remarkable indeed. And while your attempt to excuse one person's ill behavior with the unfortunate circumstance that others have gotten away with it in the past is quite disturbing, I can quite respect your commitment to defending someone you likely have zero connection to outside of the workplace. Though I may be mistaken, I have not once witnessed these "insane" workers you claim we possess, and assuming they do exist, I question the sanity of whoever gave them clearance. As for violent, the most I've seen is a blatant disregard for professionalism that an unfortunate amount of the crew seem to have. For clarity. I never once described Rathel as a psychopath, rather, used a metaphorical psychopath as an analogue for the example I wished to set; much the same as your doctor / patient sentiment. Speaking of which, no, it isn't like that at all. Someone this disruptive in the workplace, someone in a position that's supposed to set a positive example no less, is not a patient that needs curing so much as a blight that needs curing. Her "Bicaridine" should be a reality check; if she can't improve her behavior then she simply isn't welcome aboard a NanoTrasen station. Now, while I can ignore the obvious contradictions you've made about her needing therapy but yet not being disturbed and simply having a childish, jaded mentality; your assertion that she understands corporate regulations better than most is absolutely laughable given her complete inability to simply hold her tongue. I have, admittedly, never seen her work in the field however. Due to this, I will withhold judgement on her abilities as an officer in general, though work skills should not justify an inability to follow some of the most simple guidelines that are set for security personnel. I may be wrong in having such a harsh stance, but with how many chances she has had to improve her work ethic it is more than tiring to see the total lack of improvement she shows. I doubt without being demoted until further notice with mandatory therapy sessions she will see any permanent improvement in attitude, though I would be delighted to be proven wrong. Thank you for the time you've put into replying to this report. Regards, Z. Langford
  10. Mr. Saakhat While I appreciate the sentiment, the fact that Jade has had to be reprimanded so many times and has yet to show any improvement, even slightly, implies she is simply not fit for duty. As you noted yourself, temporary demotions have done absolutely nothing to even marginally nudge her in a better direction, so perhaps a permanent one may be more desirable. An individual this toxic should not be welcome in any workplace, especially not one that relies on the trust of the entire rest of the crew to act as guardians from undesirables. Whether her actions are justifiable by some form of prior trauma or not are irrelevant, we do not hire psychopaths simply because they have a reason for being highly mentally unstable, do we? Keeping someone this violent - especially in the position she holds - should never have even occurred in the first place. However, if Rathel were to be temporarily suspended from her position as a security officer while on therapy until she has shown she is capable of acting in a respectable manner consistently and without fault, then perhaps your suggestion may work. Either way, her current actions are a disgrace to both her co-workers and the fine reputation NanoTrasen has built for itself. Regards, Z. Langford
  11. BYOND Key: GlamourChariot Character Names: Zinaida Langford, Alysa Mills, Alex Swan How long have you been playing on Aurora: ~6 months Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Pinkish-orange, one of them hot water folk. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Indubitably. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Skrell are an interesting race given the fact that they're basically just humans if they evolved underwater rather than on land. Due to this, they can act in an entirely human manner, though due to cultural differences it isn't how one would act if they weren't stuck working in a human-run environment. This gives the unique opportunity for a little playing on the "uncanny valley" effect, being a Skrell trying their hardest to live up to their prideful nature and assume the identity of an almost pseudo-human entity, trying desperately to prove that they can and will fit in despite the difference in species and culture. As an aside to this, not many people tend to play on the fact that while the Skrell and humans are allies, that doesn't necessarily mean all members of either side adore each other. I would specifically like to take advantage of this, playing a Skrell trying as hard as possible to fit into a culture that they were not raised into while simultaneously having a latent distrust for that same group they so wish to be accepted into, bringing some conflict and potential tension to the table. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The subtly different biological structure of Skrell includes such things as webbed hands and feet, tentacle-like faux hair and a complete lack of teeth, among others. This allows for some playing with the expectations of human characters. While a human may see tilting one's head as an inquisitive lean, a specific tilt could warp the vocal emittance of a Skrell just slightly enough to convey an entirely different context to what they're trying to get across, something that would absolutely fly over the head of a human despite carrying a lot of meaning to other Skrell. There are also the more obvious factors, such as the "emotionless" black eyes, potential for some truly strange eating habits should one forget their company, anth thability tha thpeak thlurred warbles. Character Name: Vaslus Mil'Gluch Vaslus was always the thoughtful type, even by normal Skrell standards; though "thoughtful" may not be entirely correct phrasing. Having discovered, with enough pressure involved, a particular species of plant would erupt in a violent implosion; a young Vaslus set their sights on figuring out the kinds of things that make the universe work the ways it does. With a special interest in volatile chemicals and anomalous materials, the young Skrell applied for and completed a string of gruelling courses, culminating in a PhD in the field of Plasma Research; among several less impressive degrees. In the following decade, the offbeat Skrellian remained at the University as a teacher in the fields of her expertise, simultaneously working towards further education in a small variety of associated areas. Eventually, having grown tired of the stagnating learning environment a sterile facility of teaching could offer, a more mature Vaslus decided it was time to enter the serious workforce, outside of the confines and safety of a stale University. With a yearning to experiment with deadly and unknown entities, the human-run corporation of NanoTrasen caught her attention, their unlimited bravado and crude displays of plasma market and research dominance acting as a glowing beacon that called out to be handled and researched by a Skrellian professional. With a plethora of small achievements already under her belt, Vaslus was hired almost immediately, and so began on the surreal experience of life aboard a human run research station. What do you like about this character? Well, I don't like to give too much away about my characters without having people actually interact with them, but still. Vaslus is Skrell, through and through. She grew up amongst her people, learned among her people and didn't so much catch a glimpse of other races outside of research materials and the odd news cast. Due to this, she'll be less of a "humanized" Skrell, and more of an alien being among the crew. She'll try her hardest to fit in, but due to the various anti-xeno groups attacking Skrell establishments being most of what she knows of note and the horror stories of the brutal Unathi and primitive Tajarans, her perceptions of the other races will be slightly warped and she'll approach near everyone with a subtle caution. She's smart, probably both smarter than she realises despite her pride telling her she's smarter than she is, given the constant internal doubts that arise upon the dawning of a new idea or fact brought to light that turns a previous assumption or hypothesis into folly. All in all, she's a mature and respectable Skrell, has a subtle speciest streak, thinks quick and very obtusely. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 10/10, BestRP. Notes:
  12. I am absolutely in favor of this, the on foreseeable issue in my eyes is actually finding someone/a team dedicated enough to consistently work on it without, you know, randomly throwing in the towel two news stories in because they can't be bothered. This would add a lot of accented flavour to the universe without slamming tiny lore details down the general populaces' collective throats, while adding to the possibilities of RP where characters with different political leanings may react very differently to some of the news, or simply use it as a background topic for a conversation that otherwise wouldn't have taken place. 10/10
  13. Reporting Personnel: Zinaida Langford Rank of Reporting Personnel: Assistant Personnel Involved: Jade Rathel - Security Officer Time of Incident: Always. Location of Incident: Station wide. Nature of Incident: []Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property [x]Neglect of Duty [x]Harassment []Assault [x]Misconduct []Other Overview of the Incident: The Officer in question is needlessly and constantly hostile to any and all parties, offering such immature and unnecessary insults as "moron" and "shitter" on a regular basis. One need only be in the vicinity of her, no interaction required, to witness her wonderfully blatant displays of harassment on a regular basis. Not even the general communication channels are safe, as the slightest comment, regardless of whether in her direction or not, will incite a rage induced flurry of insults and curses at a moment's notice. This behaviour is absolutely unbecoming of an esteemed Officer of NanoTrasen security, let alone any employee of the company. The security force exists to serve, not to act as antagonistic parties in pointless inflammatory actions. How someone this violently unstable was allowed through screening is beyond me, how they've remained in employment an even greater mystery. Did you report it to a Head of Staff or IAA? If so, who?: No. Additional notes: The sheer consistent frequency of this behaviour is appalling, even ignoring the severity of the insults and threats flung around.
  14. Let me make this clear, since everybody seems to be ignoring my previous post: Nikolai has already been talked to about the IC connotations of acting in the manner he did as Rai. If you're coming here to bash him about thinking he tried to end the round early, don't. If you're coming here to bash him about Rai's actions being unacceptable, don't. If you people can't have a civil discussion about the event with open minds, don't post here. The whole drawing lines in the sand and throwing stones at each other over the things the other party did wrong needs to stop.
  15. Nailed it. Other than that, it's more just an issue of Rai's IC incapability to act in a suitable manner for one in a command position, which has already been dealt with.
  16. Will not post my opinion here, but some extra information to quell all of the assumptions people are making in this thread: 1. Nik claims to have done everything IC, and accepts any judgement that may be done in respects to his characters and their abilities to be heads 2. He decided to fake the Singularity after CC denied his request for help, despite being told it was denied because he didn't use the proper format; later stating it was because "the format is dumb" 3. He had planned to fake the Singularity BEFORE the bomb attacks, as a means to get everyone off station due to fears and a lack of help from CC, the reason for which is stated above 4. He was very clear that he did NOT do it in an attempt to circumvent the vote that failed, but rather for the reasons outlined above Also, a friendly reminder to keep things civil. This topic can and will be closed if it devolves into bashing, circular arguments or otherwise ceases to have any real value. That is all.
  17. It's not just the flavour text, it's the entire character. Just put things into perspective for you real quick, your character: Is effectively a cyborg commando Is apparently a scientific experiment, passing "security tests" in almost zero time due to "severe synthetic alteration" Was allowed into the NT security force because she talked to some people that she shouldn't have even been able to contact in the first place, especially with zero credentials Has extremely subjective flavour text, implying that the character is absolutely flawless like some kind of supermodel even despite prior mentioned experiments and severe synthetic alteration Has joke flavour text saying "no foot fetishists here" and implying that everybody is looking at her supposed perfect ass And finally, acts in a truly ridiculous action movie hero manner of calm, edgy extreme badassness; as I personally witnessed in a few rounds. The majority of other, much more realistic characters: Are normal biological beings, maybe with a prosthetic or two if they have been previously injured Had to go through schools and institutions and received appropriate training to be hired Had to legitimately pass any NT entry procedures with a full background check along with the prior mentioned schooling Generally (though not always, and it is a real issue) display a reasonable flavour text giving a general, objective description of the character without sounding like they're trying to describe their perfect waifu material Act in a reasonably realistic manner, maybe with a few adrenaline induced moments of overt strength and in general not being an edgy near emotionless husk Now, redaction of information isn't necessarily a bad thing. It is, however, if there are nearly as many redactions as there are other words in the paragraphs. If NanoTrasen needed to censor that much of the records, they wouldn't exist in the first place; nor would the character's place on the station. The issues with this character are deep seated and honestly you'd need to scrap the whole thing if you wanted to take any suggestions legitimately to heart. Whether you do or not is up to you, though I highly suggest you read up on what a Mary Sue is and why your character is a blaring example of such. In fan fiction, a Mary Sue or, in case of a male character, Gary Stu or Marty Stu is an idealized character, often but not necessarily an author insert and/or wish-fulfilment. -- The negative connotation comes from this "wish-fulfilment" implication: the "Mary Sue" is judged as a poorly developed character, too perfect and lacking in realism to be interesting. And no, having a "character flaw" of having a dark, edgy and mysterious past of being a scientific experiment does not save you from being a Mary Sue, it only adds to it. Look, if you want to play a character like this look into dabbling in some Cyberpunk 2020 or Shadowrun. The Aurora is not the place for Mary Sue / Snowflake wish fulfilment.
  18. I liked Reach a lot more than other people seem to. 4 was straight garbo, though. It would have maybe been redeemable if literally all the new Spartans weren't god awful. Multiplayer was hilariously bad/easy, even more get sniper -> win game than Halo 2, and I actually thought Halo 2 was the best one, lmao.
  19. Apparently both me and my lack of characters are shit at surviving Fancy that (I actually have 4 characters, but the question is; who are they?)
  20. I wasn't going to post in this thread, but I believe this is probably the most important take away from it thus far. Pay attention, people.
  21. BYOND Key: GlamourChariot Character name: Zinaida Langford Item name: Emergency Response Team duty jacket Why is your character carrying said item to work? She's an ERT engineer, she wears it because it's her duty jacket and always has it on her. Item function(s): Same as the normal one Item description: Same as the normal one (Except maybe it's got a marker on the left saying 'Tpr Langford') Item appearance: Same as the normal one Additional comments: The jacket does not add any armour at all. It is basically a normal jacket with pockets. It can hold weapons but Zinaida almost never gets a weapon unless she is on duty working as ERT or protection detail, and they are viable when examined Totally not stolen from Scope's application, Zinaida and Fai work together okay what do you expect
  22. Alright, I'm not gonna have a go at anyone in particular, but I'd like to state that it seems like things are very much heading in the direction of an Us vs Them argument, with Jamini getting dogpiled on by those that disagree with him. At risk of sounding a little too controlling, I'd like for people to not reply anymore unless they're adding a new idea or complication or otherwise bringing a different opinion to the matter, so as to avoid going in a circular argument of reiteration between two sides that ends in the thread being locked. Sound good?
  23. What people thought would happen on Bay: 1. Officers will think before going into a conflict 2. Violent conflict will lessen 3. People will stop being shitlers and breaking minor regs, because they might get shot 4. Security would talk things out over using a gun 5. Things will improve overall What actually happened: 1. Officers used them just like tasers. Experienced, good officers. Sending tons of people to medical for breaking minor regulations. 2. Antagonists became SIGNIFICANTLY more violent, as they were fully aware that security would need to lethal them and that they'd get shot if caught. The amount of outright murders went through the roof. 3. The randoms being shits were still shits. 4. Medical was FLOODED with broken bones and stuck-in bullets. Literally flooded. 5. Security became even MORE hated, as they tended to use said non-lethal gun to resolve fights. 6. Antagonists who were caught were more often than not outright killed. Sometimes by accident. 7. It was reverted after about five rounds of testing. Don't get me wrong, I was tentatively in support of this idea on bay too. What I saw was THE EXACT OPPOSITE of what people thought would happen, happening. It doesn't work. LtL ballistics were a horrible, universal failure there. I do not see in any way how things will be BETTER here with them. At all. Alright, thanks. Adds a lot more to the discussion than your prior posts. Appreciated.
  24. Okay, I held off on saying something when you made your second post, but stop. Seriously, please. If you would like to make an informative post explaining exactly your gripes and extrapolating on your opinion, then that's fine. But if you're just going to sit there shitting on the thread every 5 minutes, I'd like to ask that you withhold further responses because your opinion is already known. If a trial is run and fails, it will not be mentioned again. You are unnecessarily spamming at this point. Sorry if this sounds stern, I just don't want this thread becoming yet another derailed shitstorm. Thank you in advance for understanding.
  25. A rare picture of all of my characters, as known by everyone on the server
