+1. This man is scary. He knows EXACTLY how to get people to get that Idris(tm) smile, colleague. Puts a HECK of a lot of effort into his emotes, almost scarily so and does it so masterfully. He's a freaking genius on this character and I'd love to see him around all the time.
-
+1 Have commanded with him for a few rounds. He always seems to be on the ball with his commanding. He knows what he's doing while babysitting all the engineers.

When are you on Aurora?:
Some days, all day. Other days, early morning for one and a bit rounds, then in the evening.
Experience
How long have you played SS13?:
Like, six months, maybe seven.
How long have you played on Aurora:
All but two weeks of above time.
How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?:
I like to think I know a lot about medicine and the medical department. I'm getting more confident at engineering (Love you Naledi), but I feel I could use some more departmental knowledge elsewhere, and I'm happy to learn to do those.
Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?:
Not at all.
Have you read through the criteria thread; https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=4198 - and believe that you mark off all the criteria?:
Yes, I believe so.
Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?:
No, for I am an innocent flower.
Personality
Why do you play SS13?:
I play SS13 because of the escapism it brings. Being able to put my mind into someone else, and do something I would never be able to do in real life, with a lot less effort is fun. The stupid shenanigans that happen as well are enjoyable and the environment is just generally run.
Why do you play on Aurora?:
I love roleplaying. I've been roleplaying in fantasy games for about half my life now, more, always in text based roleplaying. I was suggested this game by friends who no longer play, I believe, but I have kept to it and made new friends who I enjoy being around and spending time with.
What do moderators do?:
Help take care of the community and kick out the inevitable bad people that come along to ruin other peoples fun. Also babysit the admins when they need their hand held.
What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?:
Helping out the people that need it, looking in depth into issues that come up and knowing when to take a step back, should it be needed, for your/my own sanity. Also knowing when to apply the GRUMP and when not to.
Why do you want to be a moderator?:
Because I really enjoy helping people out, as best I can. I enjoy this server, I enjoy almost all the people on it and I don't want to see the server go to shit because of lack of people around to moderate it.
What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?:
I have experience in helper type roles before. I was a novice guide in one of my MUDs. I've been a moderator on a private WoW server and also a raid leader in current content in World of Warcraft (0/10 would not recommend). I am also going to be trained for supervisor/managerial duties at my own place of work within the next week.
How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?:
Sometimes it doesn't even phase me, other times I get really worked up by it (Like being CMO for instance.) I am trying to do better, and am happy to step away if it builds up too much.
Anything Else You Want to Add:
Don't hesitate to reach out if there are more questions that need asking, or clarification.

Are you able to expand on this question? Particularly in how they differ society-wise.
The fact that they can be passed around and around with a quick transaction. Not being treated nicely by a lot of people, constant racism towards others. Skrell in particular would see them with some scorn, because obviously artificial intelligence is a big thing for them. Being treated like an object by some, hurt, beaten and abused by some, but cared for and treated normally by others.
On 26/04/2020 at 10:40, niennab said:How old is Cautery? Additionally, Nanotrasen isn't in the industry of manufacturing of IPCs.
Cautery is four years old. As spoken about on discord, manufactured at Heph then programmed at Zeng Hu in joint effort.
On 26/04/2020 at 10:40, niennab said:What are Cautery's perspective on their existence or organic existence? From a concept perspective, is there a reason that you made them free over being owned?
Cautery is aware her existence isn't natural, and is aware that she's probably going to get some slack for her very presence from some (mainly skrell). But she has a job to do and goshdarnit she's going to do it. As for being owned, I guess I personally like the pseudo freedom, or maybe like the idea of someone going all Zoomyeyes on her.

AH ok!

BYOND Key: Melariara
Character Names: Adelina Valdemar, CMO/Surgeon
Zapper, Cyborg
Naledi Ahmehlo, Engineering Apprentice
Nyoom, pAI.Species you are applying to play: IPC
What color do you plan on making your first alien character: IPC's exempt (Lowkey some sort of orange though, with orange screen)
Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes.
Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question.
Why do you wish to play this specific race:
Honestly was inspired by seeing Scalpel and Hemostat in a round together recently. They were doing LESS THAN ETHICAL things and was like, hey, that's pretty cool. Then Soultheif, one of the players behind one of them, brought up a list of things about all the others and I genuinely liked the idea for one so much I spent the entire freaking night thinking about it, so here we are.Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:
Having different emotions, or lack there of, will be an interesting take on being human. Having different things to worry about also, such as EVA suits and cooling packs (holy crap that was a pain when controlling the remote robot in the bunker). It'll also be nice to know all of that. Walking calmly as well and not being able to run without burning up horribly will be interesting as a baseline, but the EXTREME SPEED of a Zeng Hu Mobility will be hilarious. Going into robotics when getting injured as well will be a super big thing as well, and will probably be a hard habit to break, also not being put to sleep and having a fun conversation.Character Name: Cautery
Please provide a short backstory for this character.Cautery is an four year old baseline created for the purpose of chemistry. Shortly after her creation, there was a fire in the science department where she was made, which spread quickly and suddenly, and as a result her positronic was exposed to extreme heat which caused her to develop a fascination with fire. Her actions in her first few months caused her to undergo almost non routine maintenance due to constantly setting things on fire. Since then, the urge only pops up under extremely stressful circumstances, or if there is a fire of some sort around her.
Originally created by NT for basic chemist duties, she was shoved around, station to ship, ship to station, fitting in as needed, given only a few days off at a time. During those few days off, she would attempt to gain temporary jobs around whatever civilization was closest, fulfilling duties needed of a chemist or pharmacist, attempting to gain extra cash. All her funds were funnelled towards buying her own freedom, which she has successfully achieved very recently. Now that she has her freedom, she's bartering her skills off, still taking odd jobs on the side, but not really caring as much about the morality? Happy to make thermite (obviously) for the right price.
Her screen has a candle, campfire or bonfire on her display (and now I want to make a custom IPC screen for it but I'm so bad at life).
What do you like about this character?
I love the idea that she's calm and collected, just sitting around, making chems then someone asking her to make something, screen lifting so slightly, delicate fingers stopping on whatever they're doing, and her just giving the attitude of, "You want me, to make that?" The thought of being an IPC that just doesn't take shit from anyone is a fun thought, but being calm as she does it (Until fire is involved, IE, when she gets traitor or something.)
How would you rate your role-playing ability?
I hope its good, but I'm a baddy and judge myself at a six or seven.
Notes: I need to shank Stryker.

He kidnapped my family and is holding them at knifepoint if I dont +1 this app.
Please let them go now Shadow...?
I kid. Genuine +1 for reals. Good roleplayer, depth and range across all characters.
He's a big bully sometimes

Hep is amazing at roleplaying her characters. The diversity she portrays with them all is incredible and I've seen her in iHOS a few times and every time she's been calm, collected and controlling of any situation brought forward. Her as a research director would be amazing, and I hope to see her as captain at some point in the future. +1

Hep is a wonderful person to be a around and is very good at different forms of roleplay.
I love the idea of Brick and he sounds like he could be either really cute, or really cool. Or both. I love him.

1). A security officer barges into medical on code red with their laser rifle out, yelling about a ninja being in the surgery wing. What do you do?
Gently remind the officer that we don't know they're ninjas. Is the man in the black suit aggressive? If yes, tell medical to evacuate the area then allow the (hopefully more than one) security officer through.
Quote2). How do you intend to deal with departmental security as a CMO?
I actually quite like the direct link to security. I feel like we should be able to learn about problem children aboard the station more because of it and its nice knowing we have someone there to protect us.
Quote3). It's a very hectic round of vampire. You're getting lots of patients, almost all of which are missing 30-40% of their blood. There simply isn't enough O- blood to go around, but you are fairly well staffed. You have two biochemists, two nurses, one surgeon, a paramedic, and a resident. Your surgeon is an IPC, as is one biochemist. Luckily for you, Valeriya Samsara a quartermaster is active and communicating with you. With all this in mind, how do you solve this issue? Remember that you are a member of command and can delegate.
Get the biochemists to roll out iron, copper and sulphur pills and distribute them as needed if people come in with below 85% blood loss. Get someone, maybe one of the nurses, to order more bloodbags from cargo. Use Dex Plus and Alkysine to keep the brains as healthy as possible. Surgery on the brains if needed.
Quote4). How would you handle a surgeon joining that clearly has no idea what he is doing as a player?
I would try to guide them in a sense but also gently remind them that its probably not the best idea to dive right into surgery as a new player and it would be recommended that they start as a resident or intern to learn. If they are still insistent and do surgeries without people knowing, well, AHELP I guess.
Quote5). How do you think you will resolve fights between departmental members, such as dueling paramedics or surgeons?
Remind them that if there are injured, we need to focus on that first and foremost. Get both sides of the story, try to delegate and find a common ground then try to sort it out from there.

BYOND key: Melariara
Character names:
- Adelina Valdemar, Surgeon
- Zapper, Cyborg
- Viva Carrington, Security Officer
- Arielle Matson, Shaft MinerHow long have you been playing on Aurora?: Like, four to five months.
Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?:
I've been given iCMO a few times and I think I can handle the responsibility. Also, I tend to play during the "dead hour" when there are rarely, if any, heads of staff so it'd be nice to fill the niche if/when it's needed.
Why did you come to Aurora?:
A few friends had tried to get me into SS13 for ages, and I eventually gave in and started playing on Yogstation. I loved it, tried out on AUstation (which was nice as an Australian for the ping), then one of my friends mentioned Aurora. I've played a lot of MUDs (Multi User Dungeons) for about fifteen years, so the roleplay was something I was craving and I got it, and I've hung around since then.
Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Many times. I have them bookmarked in case I need anything and will probably have them open while I play.
Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? I have been spoken to a few times, but no administrative actions has been taken as far as I am aware.
Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.
Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:
Roleplay is a way of building a character. You discover who they are, what they like and dislike and it may be something completely different to what you as a person know and believe. In doing so, you can broaden your imagination to a variety of different things and thoughts, such as "What if this character disliked X" or "What if they really liked fish, where I didn't in real life?"
What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:
OOC Purpose is to continue the storyline of any antagonist while also attempting to keep their department, station and crew safe. IE, by acting as though you have no idea what a changeling is and why they're coming back to life, or why the blood is going missing and so on. Also to generally help people, as below.
What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:
To be a mentor to new people to the server and to their roles. To not be judgmental when someone makes a new character to learn something new, and help them. Ask if they need help in LOOC, escalate it higher if I am unsure, or point out the wikipedia pages, if needed and hope they are up to date. Be a beacon for them to work for as well, be a leader and help push forward stories.
Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career?
The recent Jargon events have definitely left a mark on Adelina. She knows of the Federation, and what they did, but she's still under the impression that "not all Skrell are bad and want to tag people." After having to do the surgery on Froskur, she's been pretty shaken up but driving forward, hoping to keep helping people. The recent Tajaran things have her a little weary, someone has died in her care because of it but got to keep going forward. Also, she has been called a terrorist by a few co-workers, and that has left a sour taste in her mouth. As for her career, it feels as though it has been boosted, almost, by the results of the warbling; she has been given iCMO a couple of times, and, so far, has yet to hear anything bad.
What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Chief Medical Officer. Been considering Captain but honestly, probably not.
Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Zoe Rojek, Chief Medical Officer for the trial. If the application is accepted, Adelina Valdemar will be my CMO (maybe). How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 7/10, maybe.
Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes, of course.
Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yeesss... Again, I have a lot of pages open while I play!
Extra notes: Notice me Nathan Sloan.

Bear is a fun person to be around and very responsible. The answers to their interview are also very satisfying to read. +1!

I genuinely enjoy BRAINOS' hypospray a lot. Very futuristic looking and still gives you a good vibe of "Oh hey that's Zeng Hu"

Overview of the Incident: Earlyish in the shift, the mechatronic engineer came to medical to give us a translator box which we thought was pretty cool. Later on, we would find out one was delivered to the bar as well.We later played a game amongst ourselves: Two truths, one lie. We were under the impression that no one else was around so of course, some personal information was revealed.
During this, TEDU, the borg, was giving us things. He ended up bringing up piece of paper with voice logs of our entire game printed on them. Naturally, the box was disabled the moment we found out and dismantled, poked around and prodded at by Neith Mekesatis who discovered the original translator and a subspace transmitter disguised as a power cell.
Unfortunately, at some point during all of this, the Mechatronic Engineer went SSD and was later stored.
Submitted Evidence:
The Translator, turned off and slightly dismantled.
The internals on the device.
How many pages we found of our conversation. Please note more pages are available but due to the contents, I am uncomfortable displaying them right here. ((More pages are available, DM me on discord if they are needed!))
The complaint form, signed by everyone involved.
Did you report it to a Head of Staff or a superior? If so, who? If not, why?: Nathan Sloan, Captain, was informed of it the moment he awoke from cryo.
Actions taken: Nathan Sloan, Captain, promoted myself to iCMO to fill the appropriate paperwork.
Additional Notes: -
You can kill yourself by donating blood. I mean, I don't think that's fine at all. You drain too much blood, you immediately start getting brain damage.

Riu's Painted Welding Mask
in Denied Apps
Posted
+1ing this considering I've always seen Riu with a wielding mask and it makes sense, considering he's an Unathi and all. Also liking the red at the bottom, like its his mask he wears WHILE in engineering.
