  1. Hi. Just want to jump in feet-first and bloody my nose a bit in all this by saying: Are we absolutely sure that we want this person completely and utterly removed from the server? Personally, I see good points made on both sides here. Side 1 - Technokat can and does have some issues and has recieved an abnormal amount of warnings. vs Side 2 - Technokat didn't mean any harm and everyone posts stupid things. The fact is, this is a game in which a number of anonymous individuals come together to roleplay. The server is hosted, for free and without even donations, by a member of the staff. There are a set of rules to follow posted everywhere. The staff has given this individual many warnings. A number of members both like AND dislike this member in particular, apparently strongly enough that arguments break out over and over about this member. These are all facts. So. Can anyone suggest a course of action other than a ban? Or, if you really do believe in a ban, how about a solid justification of why any other path is not an option?
  2. Well, excuse me for not talking to a dead body and following SoP during ROUND END, I mean, what. Hi. I was that dead body/ling. I remember that situation. I was pulled out of cargo in a bodybag by an EMT/Doctor (Not 100% on the job title) and several others were around. As I was being dragged down the hall, I popped out and said something to the effect of "Uh..this is awkward." and the others nearby proceeded to freak out/question if I was really dead. You immediately set me to arrest and cuffed me and then dragged me to departures. No one in sec seemed to know what happened and you never followed up or told anyone else. It's not even in SOP, but cmon, an cop, anywhere in the world, would want answers to what just happen. The logical thought process would likely be that the person was only near-death and that the medical professional/computer reported it wrong, or that a miracle had happened, or even a mutation. The last thing anyone would immediately do is slap cuffs on them and drag them away. It was powergaming, you saw me rise up and instantly knew I was a ling and that was that. I hope this can clarify the situation in this regard.
  3. I..am very guilty of this and I'm sorry. I promise I'll work on it. I didn't even know it was a big deal, so I'm glad you said something!
  4. Just because the operatives didn't talk doesn't mean they didn't create RP. The point of nuke, in my opinion, is to create a violent and high-stress environment for the crew and for them to roleplay with that in mind. As long as the nukes don't gun down people who surrender without a word or make it so it's entirely about a kill-count, then everyone has options and the chance to roleplay. I'd like to also point out that the rules that we have don't define exactly how antags have to act. For example: The primary goal of antangonists is to CONTRIBUTE TO OTHERS' ENJOYMENT. Be creative when coming up with objectives, and try to do things which will be fun for others, not only yourself. Antags don't take the responsibility of others fun entirely on themselves. The rule clearly states CONTRIBUTE. As in, you should be trying to have fun with the round and they'll participate in that with you. As for objectives, we've had so many nuke rounds it's hard to be original, so some ideas may get recycled. It happens. Only resort to killing if it makes sense. Randomly killing someone because you’re a traitor will get you removed right quick. However, in certain situations, murder can serve as a tool, if none other applicable. If you’re uncertain, ask for guidance via adminhelps. You're a mercenary employed my a terrorist-like organization. Violence is the norm here and it makes sense they won't put up with people's shit the same as a traitor would have to. For them, it's about the job and the money and they simply have to not get caught. For other antags, things are more complicated as you generally have less resources (a ship of your own to leave on) and you're already in the system's database, thus it makes less sense to casually kill people. No ganking. While antags will sometimes kill, it is expected for you to provide interesting roleplay to your targets first, if your goal is assassination. Collateral damage is acceptable within reason, but this means you must use common sense, and avoid creating scenarios with a lot of potential for collateral (setting bombs in high-traffic areas, etc.) Antags will sometimes kill. That applies to all of them, although nukes more than most given they have little recourse for stealth and blending in. As for the interesting roleplay, notice it says "if your goal is assassination". It doesn't say always. If you're targeting people, then you should roleplay with those people. If your targeting an object and people are nearby who try to fight you or refuse to surrender, then that's kinda on them for being an idiot. These people are heavily armed mercenaries. Your an engineer/scientist/doctor/chef/whatever. Remember the footage of those guys in that mall in Africa that went around shooting up people? No regular civilians rushed at them. They all ran or hid. That's NORMAL. Trying to disarm a gunman is NOT normal, it's heroic. Don't get mad if you try to be a hero and fail. I think that's the biggest reason people take issue with nukes. Because they die. So what? It's not canon. Unless they stormed engineering and gunned you down when you surrendered, it's likely because you decided to be a hero/not listen. That's on you.
  5. But that's the entire issue. Your character SHOULDN'T have those certain skills. Just because YOU know how, doesn't mean THEY should. How do you know Medbay or Engineering wouldn't want to be involved in those activities? 9 times out of 10 both of those departments have people sitting around twiddling there thumbs doing nothing productive. Everything you just said essentially sounds like "It would be a pain for ME if she couldn't do these things." As for what Tenenza said, he meant you shouldn't know every job in your department because that's just too much for a single person to know. It doesn't mean trade out a few internal departments for a few minor skills in several others.
  6. Well that's sorta my point, everything you just listed are extras in the sense that in any given emergency, you have all your own bases covered. The general rule is: Know your own department and a little of one extra. The engineers who can fix there own limbs would know engineering and a little of science, but that's it. Here you know Science, a little of engineering, a little of medical, and a little of supply. Chemistry, I'll admit, is iffy as it can fall under both science and medical just for the simple fact these is a small chem lab on the outpost. All I'm trying to say is, maybe Kate shouldn't know the little things like first aid/building walls? You could then do all the science (obviously, since your an RD) and the mining bit still. As for the weapons, that would be handled on a case-by-case. I don't believe you seek out antags really, but you would likely know how to fire weapons simply because you do test them regularly ICly.
  7. I would agree under normal and intelligent circumstances, but unfortunately I think time and again people have proven that those circumstances don't apply. They see a reply and forget what the post was about or whatever and still point and say "See? They did it. So why can't I? Unfair! Adminabuse!" ect ect. As for what prevents admins from doing that... see my previous remark, basically. People would then argue and argue about others getting away with things and what constitutes the ADMINS opinion of what is and is not acceptable the correct one and so on... so a blanket ban was put in place instead. Like now. You believe Gollee made a mistake and here we are discussing it. This rule I don't see an issue with but only because we unfortunately have a lot of newcomers who want to come and exploit whatever loopholes they can to troll and start big arguments. Everything you did, in my personal opinion, should be perfectly acceptable. Then again, if it was just people posting like you did with the intent you did, that rule wouldn't even exist.
  8. As the mod in the second ahelp, I did agree. The player was new and I remember even saying in TWO different ahelps that instead of essentially embarrassing the new player about small (1 year difference) age discrepancies and other small qualifications right from the jump, people should attempt to TEACH. I know when I first started out, I never even knew the occupational qualifications page existed because I didn't go to the AURORA Wiki and click the guides there, I simply never thought about it. Then one day, after putting in alot of time and even getting an IC promotion, I get called into a meeting about being a few years too young even though I had applicable college experience and work experience. It was humiliating and the fact is as Jeanette, I still get sass from command occasionally for her age. The person was talked to about the tantrum from one mod and then linked to the guide (after the second ahelp about the records) by another. They added in the relevant experience but there age was ONE year too young. As for the forum rules, this does seem a bit picky, but I can also see the whole avalanche effect happening. For example: On an IC complaint I put up one time, a player who was involved posted on it in an attempt to rebuttle. I can see other new players seeing non-staff posting and thinking it's okay as well, which is really the only real excuse for a blanket ban on this sort of thing, so people can't go "But so-and-so did it!".
  9. The easiest way, imo, to tell if you may or may not be powergaming is to simply ask yourself: Does my character rely on anyone? From your brief overview of her skills, seems like Kate doesn't really ever need to interact with anyone during a shift if she doesn't want to. You manage to basically cover Medical/Security/Science/Mining just then, plus your apparent ability to construct walls on your own adds an ability to block off breached areas, so engineering isn't NECESSARY for yah either. What's even left? As an IPC it's not like you need food/alcohol, so that's basically civilian jobs gone. Basically, who does Katelynn NEED? I wanna make it clear, I believe you're an excellent roleplayer, but I feel like you may be missing the point during character creation of adding flaws. What is something Kate REGULARLY needs from others? If you look around, all the other characters regularly need things from other departments/personnel in there department. Yet for Kate, it's more of a formality to ask others for things than an actual need.
  10. Here's mine that I JUST brought back from the dead: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=the_northern_collective I had forgotten how long I had played this back in the day. My dream nation did really well for itself. Strong economy, strong military, environmentally stunning, but no political freedom. Although..why would they need political freedom? I'm obviously the best candidate. That's what the public loudspeakers tell everyone anyway.
  11. This is honestly a huge reason why I became a mod and head of staff. I'm at the point where I've done most of the things mechanics-wise I want to do and now it just feels good to help. My Captain/RD almost never denies anything unless it's obviously insane/unsafe. Assistant wants to explore space? Okay, I give them airlock access and hook them up with suits/beacons/tools and a jetpack and usually a science radio to report in when they can. The worst is how people treat assistants. As an engineer I was going to cryo and I ran into a friendly BALD assistant. Gave him my insulated gloves and went cryo. Guess what? He DIDN'T greytide. He genuinely tried helping out and was actually grateful for the help. Some people just want to know they're accepted where they are. If you tell them they're fucking up without trying to help at all, they'll like just get mad/sad and not want to play that role to avoid you. Tip: Don't outright tell people what to do if things are slow. Instead, ask them questions that lead them to finding the answer on there own if you can, as it helps them feel a bit accomplished even if they were being nudged in the right direction.
  12. Was talking to this guy in ahelps, trying to help him out, when Baka (Muffet) went over to let him out of a room. The guy says this. I was done.
  13. He can roleplay and understands the rules and expectations of the server. He doesn't escalate conflict unreasonably (which I've had first hand experience with) and the fact he doesn't play his character as a know-it-all in there department, to me, is actually a positive. ALOT of department heads are crap at certain areas of there department ICly and/or OOCly. Even in real life many corporate managers don't have knowledge in all areas under there perview. Personally, I think they've earned the chance to show us what they've got. We could definitely use more CMO's too.
  14. Reporting Personnel: Antoinette Locklear Rank of Reporting Personnel: Pharmacist Personnel Involved: Myself, Jaiden Halliwell, Jack Shephard, Calvin Miller, Connor O'Brian, Petra Kuzneatov Time of Incident: All shift Location of Incident: Medbay, N.S.S. Aurora Nature of Incident: [x]Workplace Hazard []Accident/Injury []Destruction of Property [x]Neglect of Duty []Harassment []Assault []Misconduct []Other __ (Place an x in the box that applies. If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: During the shift of September.30th.2457, Duty Officers came aboard in order to interview several individuals. One of those individuals was Doctor Jaiden Halliwell, the only qualified surgeon and regular physician on board at that time. About ten or twenty minutes into there interview, a patient arrives (Engineer Jack Shephard) with multiple fractures and several damaged internal organs. I do my best to patch him up based on the limited nursing training I have and call the doctor. He tells me to throw the patient into cryo and wait for him to finish the meeting. I explained the severity of the injuries and he says "You don't just leave a meeting with these guys." After argueing some more, he finally gets leave to come perform surgery. After which, he asks for Peridoxen, a drug designed to heal internal organs. A drug that other medical professionals I've asked say he shouldn't have needed at all. He even went so far as to stop and argue in surgery and then closed the shutters on myself and an officer. Like a child. Anyway, this was all reported to Internal Affairs Agent Petra Kuzneatov, who on the shuttle back to centcom informs me that the duty officers dismissed the complaint because they were there. His exact words to me were "Due to the DO's On the station, your complaint was exempted, Centcom orders." I find it highly unprofessional and highly unlikely that centcomm would dismiss such a complaint on a man who regularly is entrusted to save lives. The names of the duty officers who interviewed the doctor are Calvin Miller and Connor O'Brian. Did you report it to a Head of Staff or IAA? If so, who?: IAA Petra Kuzneatov Additional notes: If there actions are found to have been in error, I ask that I be informed simply so that I can make the original complaint against Doctor Jaiden Halliwell.
  15. Going to agree with 1138 here and say a person's attitude on the forum's is not necessarily an indicator of there roleplay ability or there ability to play a whitelisted species. Having said that, I have seen several of these character in-game and I have no negative memories of them at all. I don't think I've seen your Diona, but I have played under your AI multiple times and have worked with a few of those characters. You roleplay, keep things IC, and generally handle thing server-side pretty well, OOC conduct not withstanding. I endorse this app on the grounds that you know and follow the server-side rules and you RP well, I wish I'd of seen more of diona though.
