In addition I care very little for “anonymous statements on discord” posted here.
Private Discord conversations can easily be “produced” and with the names blurred out it is impossible to verify their accuracy.

Agreed. I am not innocent of speaking for others, but people should really be bringing this up on their own instead of having others speak for them. I think the issue lies with the fact that some people are worried there may be repercussions (social or administrative) for saying something, but that is not a conversation for this thread.

I also like to point out that we had a couple of extended minievents

A very good point to bring up, and I quite enjoyed those that I was present for! I do have to ask why some were done during rounds where antags were present and fairly active though, as I feel like that really detracted from the importance of your minievents/encounters.

Unsure how having a medical bay would help with killing more people. If anything, it saved more lifes.

It doesn't, you are missunderstanding my point here. The medbay was, in most cases, tacked onto the casino because the event was designed in a way that there would be non-stop violence. In no way did I say it would help kill people, I said that it was encouraging a TDM style of gameplay.

Already explained how it is not gank. We had two weeks worthy of escalation and murders before the crew was attacked.

Again, you missunderstand my point here. In no way do I disagree with you on the topic of forewarning, and I admittedly forgot to include that in my response. You gave ample warning to those attending that this was going to be a violent event, and I commend you for that. A number of deaths were caused by stupidity more than ganks. However, we could have 2 hours of build-up during a mercenary round, but would that excuse them suddenly attacking someone whom was uninvolved without any form of RP between the two parties. Trapping players and engaging in even minor dialogue would greatly improve the quality of the event and the RP.

The bayonet hand could be hurt by the rifle rounds. Like I explained, I had lost a lot of blood and had at least 60 of brain damage before I was caught by the fbi. Also take in consideration that this was a single enemy againt more than 40+ players.

You are correct, he could be hurt, and I never said he couldn't. I more am referring to the useage of:

Unsure why you are speaking in their behalf if their experiences were negative or not

I would prefer not to speak on their behalf, but if that point of view is completely discarded (not brought up) then we lose a valuable piece of information in regards to the event, my information is from my own experience when inside of medical during the event. If possible, I would like to get the thoughts of someone whom was playing medical at the time so we can better gauge what went on there. @Melariara I believe was there? As much as I do not want to drag people into this, I think it's important we see all sides of the topic at hand.

I could indeed be hurt by the crew.

    Refer to 2.

The crew was meant to be fighting vanguard natediists. From the wiki, which I wrote:

"Vanguard Natediism: an extreme form of Natediism that believes that the victory of Al’mariism is ultimately inevitable due to its superior design. However, this triumph is only possible through armed conflict. Vanguard Natediism seeks to accelerate this supposed historical progress via all available means; restarting the Adhomian war is its main goal. "

Thank you for clarifying! I wholely agree with you that I was in the wrong here, and for that I apologize.

You were not there. This would happen when the crew were breaking into the bunker. They knew that a bad guy was there. The people breaking there were also armed and had voidsuits. @DanseMacabre was there as far I remember.

This already seems to have been addressed by @jrphoenix303, but I'd be willing to continue discussing this topic in further detail. I was operating off my own knowledge, and with the information @DanseMacabre has provided us we can more accurately discuss it.

Once again, if you look at the context, everyone was joking about this.

I wholeheartedly understand your point, and I would like to believe these are always jokes. However, I struggle to see how this is a joke anymore as a number of your events and arcs have repeatedly lead to massive amounts of character death (Bad Moon Arcs for example, though from what I hear a lot of it was because of people playing stupid games and winning stupid prizes). Is it really a joke at this point or a denial of reality?

    37 minutes ago, Alberyk said:

The weapons were not false. They just had blanks because they were meant to be prizes in the casino vending machines. They could be loaded with live ammo that could be found anywhere. People did that. In fact, they could find plastique explosives in non locked places to break into a vault full of ammo.

This was more of a turn of phrase, more of a metaphorical statement that the weapons weren't dangerous in any capacity.

The weapons gave people the idea that they were safe despite being loaded with blanks, and with this idea that they could defend themselves (the vast majority of people did not have actually dangerous weapons, but a good chunk did) they tried to engage him and died for it. It feels as if it were a lure to encourage them to present themselves as easier targets beliving they could fight. However, fault also lies on the players whom hoarded ammo, did not mention the fact that the weapons were loaded with blanks, or those who simply did not even acknowledge the information.

  4. I feel I should contribute to this as I do have a few things to add in regards to Alberyk's OOC conduct and the event. However, allow me to preface with this: This is not an attack on Alberyk, it is a critique of the event and conduct present from an OOC standpoint.

To begin; the final event was not a story, even if it's intent was to tie all the previous events together in one overarching story, it failed to deliver in a few ways based off my (and others whom will remain anonymous for obvious reasons) experiences. One of the primary points I see brought up often is how this event gave off the "I want frags!" vibe with the way it played out. The event began with typical casino-bar RP amidst the 50 odd people attending, unusual incidents began to pop-up as sigils pertaining to Bayonet Hand were spotted in some of the outlying areas of the casio. This quickly lead to panic amidst those present as the possibility of a serial killer being present got out. The deaths of the event-staff was a welcome addition if you ask me, and the selective nature of the attacks were actually quite interesting to see play out from an OOC perspective. The lights going out was a nice touch which added to the "slasher movie" style of event that it had become at that point.

However, as the attacks began ramping up, issues really started to arise.

The first major issue was the almost TDM style nature of this event. This event, on a fundamental level, seems as if it was created to encourage and incite a frag-fest. From the guns to the fully stocked medical bay, it was really feels like this was designed to have people killing one another. Bayonet Hand had a robust selection of highly lethal tools and an array of secluded areas for him to jump players utilizing weapons and armor that heavily out-classed the mostly unarmed crew. I personally, have no issue with that, my issue lies in the lack of roleplay involved because of this. Based off my experience, the majority of roleplay that Bayonet Hand afforded players was a tacky anti-xeno one liner followed by what could essentially be deemed a gank in almost every facet of the word. Any and all medically trained characters were near constantly glued to the medbay and forced to engage in two or so grueling hours of non-stop medical gameplay with little to no chance to roleplay. Those whom were simply sheltering nearby had little to work off of aside from two things: being scared and sitting around. Then we had those whom chose to venture out into the unknown and give chase to Bayonet Hand and rescue those trapped by him. This small selection of players were then thrusted into a game of hide-and-go-seek with Bayonet Hand for the duration of the round (these people seemed to have gotten the most RP out of this event whilst others recevied little to none).

Moving forward to issue two, space marine style antagonist. Just like the previous Skrell arc wherein the crew was faced with battling against insurmountable odds, we are faced with the same dillema here. Yes, Bayonet Hand dying early into the round would no doubt shatter the continuity of the story, and use of various hard to attain tools is not an issue. No, that does not warrant exessive use of things such as: a-healing, combat stimulants and high-grade medical drugs, firearms despite having a melee weapon that would break bones with one strike, so on and so forth. Before I am asked, no, I do not have any visual evidence of this as I was in round and was later informed by people whom were observing the event. Multiple witness reports stating that Bayonet Hand was instantly full healing when injured without any medication, I would suspect to remove the shrapnel and allow him to dive straight back into the fight. This made basically all damage done inconsequential. Medical scans showed him to have a slew of painkillers and healing medication, combat stimulants (this was noted in a previous non-event round that was orchestrated by Alb), and various other drugs running through his system when he was entering a fight. Bayonet Hand was designed to kill as many people as possible, and he did just that. I genuinely question how this drives any sort of story as it directly conflicts many of his supposed core beliefs, an example being his extensive use of human tools (flash, firearms [human based design SMGs from the PRA IIRC and a pistol], and combat stimulants, and most notably an EMP.) If he was a fervent xenophobe going on a rampage against those whom wronged him, then why did he make such extensive use of Non-Tajaran equipment?

Furthermore, the third issue, an event designed to collect frags. This one is a shorter one, but this event seemed designed to collect as many frags as possible from a player standpoint. So, allow me to state some evidence to back this up:

    Capture2.PNG.ce0f354c96562477eddd73281ce32d25.PNG

Alberyk planned to, without any chance to fight back, douse a large group (4-5 is what I've gauged from reports) in one of the most potent acids in the game. I would be remise if I did not question where the RP value of this interaction was? Note, this is not me arguing that all interactions have to hold significant RP value, nor does it mean that high risk high reward things should not take place during these events. However, this does not seem like it would have been conductive to any story other than "You challenged a serial killer and lost, big sad." Alongside this, let's come back to the topic of false firearms being provided to the crew. This seems like a rather obvious example of false-hope psychology. It was designed to provide the crew with the idea that they could fight Bayonet Hand, encouraging them to be brave and try to confront him in large groups with their supposedly loaded firearms. This lured them all into a trap wherein they were easily cut down by a completely unharmed Bayonet Hand. Overall, it really feels like this was intentional simply so Bayonet Hand could collect as many kills as possible.

Lastly, the OOC conduct. I will preface this with two things, as I expect it to come up, Alberyk did not metagrudge anyone. Secondly, this is going to be more heavily directed towards Alberyk, and I would be more than willing to further discuss both points of view. I may be wrong. With that said and done, I would like to refer us to some comments made in the SCC Personnel Terminal colloquially known as "The Relay"

    Capture1.PNG.c55c792517b6cd1b26173c68135cc4b7.PNG

    Capture3.PNG.60c9e6d27154104a9955f70a44f16551.PNG

    Capture4.PNG.36ac729a16d49441fa3bebf274bd63d9.PNG

These quotes are just a few examples of Alberyk's view on the topic of death during events. Yes, events can be violent, they can be entirely centered around violence. However, these sorts of comments show a genuine lack of interest in driving a story, as is the job of an antag and event host. These quotes show interest in one thing, bloodshed for the sake of bloodshed. Murder is a story when it is done well, mass murder feels more like death "just because". I feel like this really should not be the point of view that event hosts should be basing their events around. Repeatedly saying how one wished to permanently kill more characters for the sole purpose of "story" does not seem like the way event hosts should be going about their events.

I even killed characters from people that I have zero problems with and we joke around a lot.  About the deadchat stuff, these were nothing but jokes on a slasher-like event.

To cap this off, these don't seem like jokes when these supposed jokes always turn out to be a reality. E.g. Saying you are going to slap someone as a joke and then slapping them does not change the fact that you hurt someone, that's no longer a joke. However, I can see how this argument may be a bit far-fetched, and I personally don't mind joking about it in most cases.

  5. I'd like to pre-face this with a note, I love the addition of lore, but I really do have to voice my concerns in regards to Top of the World.

As unique as the idea is for us to have a floating city (which mind you, I have no issue with), I am deeply concerned with the complete 180 we're taking with how we handle lore in Biesel. Aurora has always been a more realistic and reasonable SCI-FI setting, and to suddenly impliment what is essentially Cloud City from Star Wars seems like a sudden change that I find nonsensical for the world we've created here. Especially in Biesel and for it to be over land instead of the ocean.

However, I can understand people may argue that "Oh, well doesn't Venus have flying cities?", but let's look at this from a scientific point of view. Venus' atmosphere is almost 100x times denser than Earth's, and the gravity is about 91% that of Earth's. If we look at Biesel, we are presented with an exponentially thinner Earth-like atmosphere and gravitational pull. It makes this floating city an almost nonsensical edition to the lore as we're really stretching the limits of our more realistic choice in SCI-FI. Alongside this, I feel it makes little sense to have the city located above a land-mass instead of the ocean due to the fact that it makes the area below uninhabitable. As quoted from the article,

"Powered by a Tesla engine of unprecedented scale, massive lightning strikes sometimes go awry and smash into the shores below, causing storms in nearby geological locations simply from the static electricity vented into the atmosphere."

Alongside sounding like something out of a Steampunk/Advanced SCI-FI novel, why would Biesel's government suddenly be willing to sacrifice miles of territory for a private island that they themselves cannot even utilize to some extent (Assuming NT is exploiting Biesel enough to avoid taxation) and in turn destroys the local environment? Alongside this, the removal of Lakeside seems like a drastic change, as pre-existing characters resided there despite the lack of lore. Overall, I feel like this kind of change isn't in line with the lore that preceded it. It would be much more reasonable to have this city located somewhere such as the Eridani Corporate Federation instead of the Republic of Biesel. Or, alternatively, if we are dead-set on having it in Biesel, over the mountains East of the Peterdiezel Crater.image.png.feee8b5175815c15ecf8cd061f5c5ff4.png

The city will not only be located high above most other locations, but it will then have a prime view over the crater, only adding to the exclusive nature. One would have to climb the metaphorical "Corporate mountain" to reach the city above the mountains. To conclude this, I believe we need to either fully retcon the city or relocate it as I and many others struggle to see how this fits into the lore in it's current state.

1.) What do they think of K'lax, who are becoming an ever increasing site in both Hegemony Lands and the Wastes?

Great question! Nassa is generally neutral on the existance of the K'lax due ot her upbringing on Ouerea and relatively limited experience with them, there is a hint of bitterness about how non-Sinta are able to rise to the ranks they have while she's being denied the ability simply because she's a woman.

  7. BYOND Key: Kaizr

Character Names: Sahi Khazka, Mahara Stokov, Adriana Volvalaad, Rocket (Most played recently)

Species you are applying to play: Unathi

What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Dark-grey

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question.

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

For the longest time I wanted to apply for Unathi as my first whitelisted race, which is obviously not the case anymore considering I’m now whitelisted for Tajara and IPCs before I even considered writing this. The reason I wanted to apply for this race was ironically because of TG Station’s lizardfolk. I personally found the sprites adorable and the concept of literal space lizards being both amusing and unique, not to mention the hissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. Aurora’s Unathi lore essentially puts a story behind these underpaid and mistreated reptiles, something which I’ve always wanted since I discovered the concept of Unathi/Lizardfolk. So in all, I’m interested in not only furthering my skills as a roleplayer but also delving into the diverse and unique lore behind Unathi to create engaging and equally unique characters.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

Just like all other alien races, Unathi differ vastly from humans in almost every aspect of society. Unathi society revolves almost entirely around honor for one’s self and their clan, to openly disregard it is the ultimate malfeasance. Characters from the Hegemony can range vastly from a wealthy nobleman seeking to expand his clan's influence or make a name for himself, to a Aut’akh hero- I mean cultist hellbent on achieving a closer connection to the spirits through bio-mechanical enhancement. This type of honor-based society opens the door for a slew of interesting stories, characters, and roleplay opportunities that you would otherwise never see among the other races. Mechanically, Unathi are also vastly different from humans. Unlike humans, Unathi stand at heights ranging from 6’0 at the lowest to as tall as nearly 7’0, and they reflect this towering height through their natural constitution. They are naturally more resistant to pain, heat, and are able to sprint at uncanny speeds at the expense of poor endurance and somewhat sluggish movement when walking.

    Character Name: Nassa Zisk’as

Please provide a short backstory for this character

In a small lodging within the dockside slums of New Skalamar, Nassa Zisk'as hatched amidst the season of Versakh, or more specifically, April 2nd, 2440 GST. She was the youngest of two children in the family, second to her eldest brother. Her clan was nothing more than a poor merchant and supply guild, struggling after their sudden departure from Moghes mere weeks before the nuclear exchange. However, due to being but a mere child, the sheer magnitude of the situation on Moghes was beyond her. Thus, her younger life was similar to an ordinary Sinta woman living among a predominantly Sk'akh family and clan. From as early as she could care to remember, Nassa's mother worked hard to raise her as a devout follower of Sk'akh and the matriarch's code. All done in hopes that she would one day join the clan tradition of mercantilism as a guild woman. And, at the age of 5, she began primary schooling with the guild, adhering to their strict rules without question. However, despite this regimented and traditional upbringing, the young Sinta yearned to be more. The only outlet for this being her eldest brother Tz'kai, who at the time was nearing 15. He was initially skeptical about her behavior and dismissed it at first. Still, as time passed, he grew more supportive of her ideas of being something more.

So the years went by, the war on Moghes grew more and more desperate for the Coalition, and Nassa happily sought out a new purpose in her free time. Until finally, at the turn of 2448, she found it. For as long as she could remember, the Hegemony was always present despite being so distant, and being in a family that fought under the banner of the Hegemony only solidified their presence. Warriors of her clan and others quickly became something Nassa adored and actively sought out when time allowed. Her childish addiction to these stories of heroism and overcoming the 'evil traditionalists' only grew as she happily fed into the mountains of Izeweski propaganda that circulated the streets of New Skalamar. And quickly, this infatuation with the warriors of the Hegemony and the code they follow grew into aspiration. She wanted to become a warrior, a Kataphract, to bring honor to her clan and the Hegemony. This dream would remain a secret, the only person she trusted enough to tell being her brother. However, this aspiration was in stark contrast to her parent's and clan's wishes. Every day, she struggled to balance her dreams of being something more and the harsh reality of her situation. This festered over time, the only outlet for this growing frustration being her brother. He had taken the path of becoming a warrior of the clan...

    Spoiler

"Come oooooon! I promise I won't break it!"

Exclaimed Nassa, jumping up in a futile attempt to snatch a metal spear out of her brother's claws as he held it above her head.

     "Yes, you will. I'm not-"

Tz'kai said bluntly, almost immediately being cut off by his sister.

    "I won't! Just for a second! Pleeeeease!"

There was yet another brief pause, the only sound being the gentle howl of the wind and the distant sounds of a city in motion.

"If I let you, will you stop complaining about it?"

The younger Sinta nodded vigorously, still jumping up in an attempt to snag the weapon from him, which she eventually did as he lowered it down to her. Then, with an ecstatic cheer of excitement, she immediately stumbled back a few steps in a failed attempt to hold the spear upright.

"Would you- Spirits.. Be careful, you idiot!"

Tz'kai exclaimed, almost immediately stepping forward and snatching the weapon to steady it.

"If you are gonna hold it, you are going to hold it right. Like this."

Using a free hand, he reached down, grabbed her arm, and repositioned it to the upper section of the spear to balance out the weight. Nassa watched him with curiosity in her eyes.

    "There."

Yet another pause overtook the pair for a few moments before Nassa barked out a laugh happily.

"See! I told you I can do it- Oh! Oh! Can I hit something with it!?"

Her eyes widened as she looked up to her brother as if pleading with him to let her STAB SOMETHING.

    "I..."

Tz'kai lowered himself down to eye level with her for a moment, almost crouching down to do so.

"Fine. But, I'm showing you how to do it properly; if you break it, I'm going to throw you out a window."

Nassa cheered, childishly thumping their tail against the ground as she almost immediately dropped the spear in her excitement, only being stopped by Tz'kai. This was going to take a while...

Over time, Tz'kai realized how disillusioned Nassa was with her aspirations, and he began to doubt her. Still, naively she continued to press him to help her achieve them. Finally, he reluctantly did so, and even he saw promise in her despite the obvious shortcomings and limitations. Nonetheless, she continued to practice throughout her younger years behind the backs of her parents with the help of Tz'kai. In her eyes, he assumed a role model status, someone she knew would support her endeavors and aspired to be like. But, when the war ended in 2449, and the clan warriors slowly began to flock to their new home, the reality of war quickly became apparent. They were far from the glorified stories of heroism and hardship she was used to, seeing the extent of the injuries many had sustained and the bodies of the dead returning home. Nassa was reluctant to let such a thing discourage her; however, the spirits of her slain clanmates were looking down upon the next generation of warriors to uphold their legacy and honor -- and by Sk'akh, she would do it.

With this realization, Nassa began to understand the true purpose she wanted to become a warrior. Not only to prove herself capable but to bring honor to the warriors before her who laid down their lives. Subsequently, through the next few years, she overzealously devoted herself to continuing her practices up until adulthood with the aid of her brother. However, in this zeal, her parents took note of the behavior and sought to shut it out entirely. Nassa found herself subject to harsh punishments, and it weighed heavily on her at times. But like a true warrior, she wouldn't lie to them despite the unending shaming and disapproval from her parents. Upon reaching the age of 16, she devoted herself to upholding a warrior's honor code, with only her brother even aware of it, failing to dissuade her from it. This happened only a few months before the Hegemony's forceful annexation of Ouerea and the destruction of its democracy. For her, the return of the Hegemony was something she had longed for, bringing her this much closer to being able to her dreams. However, it was then that reality caught up with her again. Having long since aged out of the childish idea of being accepted as a warrior within the clan without first proving herself, she yearned for the chance to do it again. These interim years after becoming an adult tested her will. However, she was hardly willing to let go of her hopes and dreams so quickly. Until the end of 2461, she found herself working under the clan's banner as an assistant to one of the guildsmen, much to her own dismay. Just like the years before, she wanted to be something more. The monotony of her situation finally being shut away by the rebellions that overtook much of Ouerea.

This was her chance, as the clan warriors rallied to be sent off once more in the name of the Lord-Regent to protect New Skalamar from the surrounding rebels. Nassa's will was only strengthened by the recently elected High-Kataphract Saa H'zala. Finally, after years of waiting, she stepped forward and asked to join the warrior's ranks on their march to protect New Skalamar... And in doing so, she was given a harsh reminder as to her place in the clan...

    Spoiler

Moments after Nassa had stepped before the clan leader, asking to join the ranks of the warriors, they all erupted into a ferocious bout of jeers and 'laughter.' However, this only enraged the Sinta, quickly allowing temper to get the better of her.

"Well- Then I will prove it, step forward and face me!"

She exclaimed, the laughter going silent for a moment as the men looked on in disgust and anger at the sudden outburst.

"We would never sully ourselves by dueling a woman, your kin speaks highly of you, but you are both misguided. The answer is no, I would never defy tradition for someone the likes of you. Now run along."

If one was to go through all the stages of grief in a few seconds, it was her. It took every ounce of will to hold in yet another outburst of rage, simply responding with a defeat.

    "As... You wish."

The clan leader in front of her nodded, looking down at the young woman with a scowl.

"Good. I expected better of you than to put on this charade. Now leave."

Angered and defeated, the Sinta stood there for a moment, staring back at him in silence.

    "Now."

With one final nod, Nassa turned away...

For the longest time, she was disillusioned with the reality of Unathite society. Even in realizing the truth behind the matter, she denied it until that very moment. Years of her effort had been cast aside without anything to show for it. For years she had held out hope that if she had even the slightest chance to prove her worth that they would maybe accept her. This harsh reminder is what finally drove the final nail in the coffin, leaving her crushed. Though her actions were hardly considered heinous enough to Guwan the woman, her family and clanmates viewed her as a source of shame. Ultimately, the only person who still supported her was Tz'kai. Still, even he was struggling to see any chance at redemption. The option of her position as a guild woman was also crushed due to her foolish outburst, relegating her once more to the laborer's work.

A dissatisfied and defeated Sinta worked away moving boxes and tending to menial tasks, a shell of her former self for a year. Then, with no other options, not even that of a Guwandi, she set her sights out on the stars above. Though it took a year for her to build up the willpower to do so, she eventually sought something to start her on her own journey. Just like a Kataphract hopeful, she set her sights on Tau Ceti after the invasion, the prospect of Biesel being a new horizon and another chance to prove herself capable in her own quest. Much to her parent's surprise, she sought out some way to get off Ouerea, eventually settling for NanoTrasen's offer to fly her to Tau Ceti in exchange for work. Much like her ancestors, she couldn't give up, and thus she felt her decision was guided by them. While both disappointed in her for failing them and deciding to leave, her parents expressed that if the ancestors were indeed in support of her decision, perhaps she could return to them one day and gain their favor.

What do you like about this character?

Admittedly I did my best not to get bingo on the "Steryotypical Female Warrior Sinta" card and I ended up doing it anyways. However, I still think the concept of someone still hopelessly clinging on to their childhood dreams to the point of it eventually all catching up to them is an interesting concept to work with. I did my best to represent :B:inta lore through their backstory and the difficulties of a woman living in a society where gender determines who you are. Much like Tajara and how one's ethnic background often is a determining factor in where you are on the social heirarchy.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

After picking up my Tajara whitelist, I think I can confidently place myself at around an 8.5/10.

Notes: Whole thing was a BIT rushed if I'm being honest, I just wanted get it over with and stop slacking. I'm still out here trying to make a female Sinta who wants to be a warrior without fitting into the steryotype. 😔

  8. Some more diversity (and possibly the removal of some) in sprites for the stationbounds is certainly an idea that I can get behind as a former stationbound main. Eitherway, love the sprite and WYVERN deserves the shiny gween +1. The only issue is how exactly it'd be implemented, I'm no coder but I have no clue if a person can be given a custom sprite for their stationbound?

  9. Despite not holding a Unathi whitelist while simultaniously wanting one and not wanting one, I'm going to leave a +1 for Clem eitherway. Yukio, and Scout are both unique characters in both design and personality, so I have no doubt this Sinta will be just as interesting. Clem is a skilled and capable roleplayer who has shown time and time again that they are capable of respecting the lore while bringing something new and refreshing to the table.

I had that stance for the longest time. The medical reform that clarified all the roles was a compromise from this secret radical stance of mine.

Agreed. I also think it would be beneficial due to the fact that the roles are oftentimes used interchangeably which honstley makes no sense. Open heart surgery isn't something you'll see your every-day direct care physician handling on a daily basis. However, that is ultimately a thing for a different thread. While changing the rules around who can do what is off the table, merging the roles seems like a much easier way of going about it.

  11. Can't agree more with this, as much as I hate to harp on it, the previous event was a prime example of railroading. Space-marines, security completely helpless, every single response team ever-so-convinientlely busy with something to the point that handling a hostage situation is "not as important" and so on. The crew were given the idea that their actions had influence but that was a falsehood, and majority of command and security players were put in a "get PK'd by the death squad or get PK'd for mutiny" situation. There was no wiggle room for crew involvement and the narrative of "haha gib phoron or die xd" was rammed down the crews throats, it was more akin to watching a movie than an event. The pre-determined nature of canon events has never gone well and is generally not very fun, and everytime the crew makes a move to change something it frequently ends in bloodshed.

It was a bad situation from the start that got a lot worse as time went on, however, I wouldn't say that it was made any worse by my involvement, or that my behavior warrants inclusion in this complaint.

You alongside the Baseline were for the most part innocent if the information that I've collected from those killed is correct, which evidence points towards that being the case.

An ERT had to be called, and engineering had to use an emitter to blow up the blast doors.

To add to this, the situation was at a point where the only personnel capable of enforcing basic station regulations was people with prior experience ICly or volunteers alongside the TCFL. By the looks of it there was little to no effort put into RP by the merchants and more specifically the shell (Thaine was their surname if I remember correctly) as they, without warning, immediately activated the turrets on a lightly armed and peaceful security team. I myself had to even volunteer to help search, move, and guard the prisoners as a visiting merchant character (Rocket), I genuinely question whether a mini-event of this type should ever require non-security crew to take up arms and form a militia simply to ensure station security.

Lastly, in relation to what Scheveningen said, I think we all can agree that the mercenary assault rifle (7.62) is a ludicrous weapon to equip them with as against standard security armor it only takes a short burst in full-auto to crit the target into a dying state.

  14. I had the pleasure of working alongside their HOP just today as my CMO Mahara Stokov earlier today, and I think they are a great fit for command. Though I feel the way they addressed the engineers that round came off as a bit callous for a member of command, but the situation was tense so I can't judge. Alongside this, my various other interactions with characters such as Locke and Stefan have only been positive. Last, but not least, their trial ends at the same time as mine so... Command trial buddies! A surfire +1, even if it doesn't mean much coming from me!

I can get being critical of Security for their handling of things, especially when playing medical. Your character being an IPC First Responder is further reasoning - however, this is where I need to ask: is this is a legitimate character trait of Darwin's or truly an OOC bias? Security and Medical already have plenty of issues attempting to work together at times, and I am deeply concerned over the fact that you aim to play a CMO with this question still up in the air. I do not want to endorse someone that may or may not make Security players distrust us even slightly more.

The eccentric behavior of Darwin when it comes to security is a trait that I entirely keep to him and him only, as a humanitarian his primary goal is ensuring situations resolve peacefully with minimal damage for all parties involved. It has been something I've kept localized to him and him only. I have no intention to carry that kind of personality over to any other characters and never will, especially as a member of command. The CMOs job isn't to critique or prod the security team for their handling of situations, but to ensure effective communication between security and medical staff and retaining a healthy inter-departmental work relationship. And, of course, to run their own department.

On another, less important note, I also recall a specific incident regarding Darwin and my Psychiatrist character (Gentle Wind) that happened somewhat recently, I think. As usual, my character was talking at length with a patient in their office - a pretty sensitive interaction, also rather usual - with their office shades up. At the time, I believe they and Darwin were the only medical staff, but no immediate danger was present. Darwin promptly rushed up to the Psychiatry Ward, and kept knocking on the windows till it was opened up. Even before my character could get a word in about to complain, Darwin had promptly told them they were not as present on comms as they would've liked, then rushed off to do something else. This had disrupted an important, intense RP scene that both me and the other player were engaged in. This is, yet again, another situation where I struggle to understand whether or not it's just Darwin being the way they are, or you not understanding and respecting certain simple etiquettes of role-play and collaborative writing. You and other readers of this thread may think this is petty and unimportant, but when my character's job as a Psychiatrist relies on these key moments, I think a bit more consideration should be expected.
Especially as someone aiming to be Head of Staff, and CMO, no less.

A completely valid point to bring up! I do have to apologize for Darwin's intrusive actions at the time, however, the reason he was so adament about checking on Gentle Wind was due to a few factors. The primary one being the radio silence for just shy of an hour, at the time when he first called upon your psychiatrist they were showing up as in the psych office alone. I recall at least 2 more attempts to communicate with around 15 minutes spacing and yielding no results. So, before going to knock on the window, after checking sensors (When I play Darwin I always have sensors open on his PDA since it seems like something a synthetic first responder would probably do due to their ability to multitask) and only seeing the afformentioned psychiatrist in the office, he went to make sure everything was alright.

Nonetheless, thank you for bringing it up and I entirely understand your point of view on this situation, and I accept the blame for it! I just found it proper to explain Darwin's own reasoning for walking up to the psychiatrist's office, as it appeared they were entirely alone in their office. I'll do my best to use this feedback to refine certain aspects of Darwin's character and to improve as a roleplayer as a whole!

Your IPC paramedic backchats and snipes at security in the middle of ongoing tense IC events, which honestly struck me as a little odd. I was informed it didn't actually break any rules, but it still raises a question for me whether that's an accurate depiction of the paramedic character you want to play or whether it's OOC thoughts on the scenario shining through. I'll leave my deeper thoughts on the character to one side and focus mainly on that issue, because it left a negative impression as a whole that only compounds my general view.

I can understand your point of view on this topic, I oftentimes try to keep Darwin at least in visual contact with both parties during tense situations just for a matter of ensuring that I know who's injured and who isn't. Though I do recall bringing a few instances of taking jabs at security for a myriad of reasons, whether it be treating prisoners poorly, or watching them handle a situation extremely poorly from an analytical and statistical standpoint. But, I can see where you are coming from on this. However, I have to ask that you elaborate on the issues as I can't fix an issue I'm unaware of. Or, pen a player/character complaint so that we can more thoroughly discuss the topics in a suitable environment.

    1 hour ago, Omicega said:

The second issue is the one I wish I'd documented more. I'm not gonna break it down into excruciating detail, but I know that on a burglar round yesterday where you were effectively cornered by security you dipped into LOOC to explain that you didn't have much time left/had to go soon (I forget the exact wording) in the middle of being told to surrender/disarm et cetera, then used the break in IC interaction to abruptly jaunt through into an adjacent room and start going gamer mode with every bit of weaponry you had. I know for a fact you stuck around until the end of the round, too, because you never dropped off the Who list and you called the crew transfer complete with some OOC chatter as the shuttle docked, so the question that was always in the back of my mind is why exactly we had the LOOC break at all, and whether it was for any purpose other than to momentarily hit a pause button so you could take up the round again on your own terms to collect frags.

This was by far one of my worst antag plays and I have no issue stating that, I fucked up, badly. I will keep the explanation brief to explain my side of the story, and you may take it however you please. My partner had to leave abruptly at the beginning of the round, severely limiting my options as an antag as we had already devoted to a hostile gimmick and I was geared for that specific gimmick. Alongside this, I missread my own schedule and didn't realize I had to leave at around so soon but I felt it would be rude to start something with security and then so suddenly end it. The chatter in LOOC, while I understand how it can be viewed as an attempt to powergame and garner a more favorable situation, was not my intention. I wholeheartedly understand the position you are coming from on this topic and I accept that it was a fault on my part, but I can assure you I have no interest in wanton violence against other players nor powergaming and did my best to wait a period of time before stepping into the surgical theater. As for the last section of your comment, the reason I had to leave was for an Arma III event, so I opted to keep the game open and offer security my best ability to continue RP despite being divided between two things. Once I found a chance to finally step away from the afformentioned event I did go around to forward my apologies for the poor conduct to security members, alongside personally messaging those who I had killed so early in the round (Elenadurak Ismatovna & Allison Wilson) and apologize for what was no doubt horrendous antag play. However, if you feel this still needs to go punished, then I implore you once more to write up a player complaint so we can further discuss it. Alternatively, you can also DM me (Kaizr#1111 or Kaizr on the AuroraStation Discord ) on discord and I would be more than willing to work towards fixing the issues.

I hope you can understand why I have some concerns here about how the approach to gameplay you're conveying to me in recent rounds might not translate to command play that's enjoyable for other people one way or another, considering that by and large I view those roles as being responsible for the enjoyment of the station/playerbase as a whole, not just the individual's own experience.

I entirely understand, and I hope that I can address any issues to ensure that I can provide a fun and engaging character and command presence for those on-station.

  17. BYOND key: Kaizr

Character names: Sahi Khazka, Valeria Stroh, Adriana Volvalaad, Rocket, IAC-Darwin (What I’ve been playing the most recently)

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Somewhere around 8 months.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: For the longest time I have aspired to be a head of staff on a HRP server. This is because I believe it provides a unique experience that cannot be found in other servers where it is time locked instead of whitelist locked.

Why did you come to Aurora?: After a few months long hiatus from Baystation and a TG off-shoot that is no longer with us, I found Aurora and thought it to be a place that I wanted to hang around. Now I’m helplessly addicted to it!

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes.

Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?: I got a note for forgetting to ask for the traitor role to be removed and joking about just buying a hypospray and vibing in the ahelp.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:

Roleplay, by definition, is to act out and perform the part of someone you aren’t. And, I hold true to that definition. Roleplaying allows someone to take a step into an alternative reality or situation, separating themselves from themself and react as someone else would. This someone else being a unique character of their own creation. Everything about the character is unique to that character, and only the person who created them can truly fill in the role of that character. Roleplay should be about having fun and engaging in unique and otherwise unusual situations; a mostly stress-free way to essentially live in another world through the eyes of someone they are not.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

From an OOC standpoint, someone who is a head of staff is an example of a trustworthy and experienced player that people can seek out for help when it comes to a slew of issues whether it be game mechanics or even for help joining the command team. While on the contrary, ingame, a head of staff is a leadership position. They are tasked with ensuring their own department runs smoothly alongside the station, and that crew needs are accommodated to ensure that the shift goes smoothly. And, lastly, if the need arises a head of staff is the final authority on many disciplinary decisions should the situation demand.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

As I stated above, a command whitelisted player is someone other players, new or old, can look to for guidance and assistance. Whether it be a new player who needs a helping hand learning the game, or a long time player simply looking for help. Henceforth, a whitelisted player should do their best to uphold these values of generosity and willingness to help when they can and to a reasonable degree.

Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau Ceti and how it affected your character and their career?

To put it simply, greatly. For Mahara, being a Tajara, and more specifically one in a command position within Nanotrasen; the invasion was a little more than jarring. Now, living in the shadow of the conflict, she is being forced to take on the situation head on despite being so close to being left in the hands of an insane Solarian admiral. Whether it will go well dealing with the growing tensions back home and Biesel in a hard position, is up for debates.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted?

Head of Security, Chief Medical Officer

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.

Mahara Stokov, Female Njarir Tajara - Chief Medical Officer

How would you rate your own roleplaying?:

Depending on the time and day, it varies from 8-9 on a 1-10 scale.

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action?

    Yes.

Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles?

I’ve read them each a few times, especially those that I plan to play.

    Extra notes:

    :catjam:

  18. +1 from meeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Due to one of my characters being their general care physician I am quite happy to see that Kathira might finally be able to walk without a cane and that my character's efforts to find them a solution for their injured leg will yield some results.

    Just some small questions:

How does Sahi sees the other two tajaran factions: the pra and the dpra?

In regards to faith, did she pick one or is still undecided about it?

About her political beliefs, which school of thought of royalism Sahi would support?

Of course! Always happy to answer questions!

In regards to Sahi's views on the PRA, she holds the government in contempt. She views their intrusive and authoritarian style of government as a brutal reminder of the old kingdoms and how they treated non-nobility. On the topic of the DPRA, while viewing them as a lesser of two evils compared to the PRA from a governmental standpoint, their brutal and unethical military tactics are the primary reason she dislikes them.

When it comes to faith, she found herself gravitating towards the Ma'ta'ke Pantheon but is yet to decide whether religion is something for her. For the time being she is more than satisfied studying the various faiths the Tajaran people follow from a third-party standpoint.

Lastly, Sahi has always saw herself as a supporter of populist royalism. This is due to her upbringing as a rural commoner within the former borders of the Kingdom of Kaltir. Much like other commoners, they all hoped for representation within the government in the future.

If you need more info I would be more than happy to provide!

  20. BYOND Key: Kaizr

Character Names: Salitia Mary, Valeria, IAC-Darwin, Vu Diem Hoa (Only characters I actively play at the moment, I have plenty of older ones that I felt weren’t worth mentioning.)

Species you are applying to play: Tajara

What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Silvery-White

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes

Please provide well-articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question.

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

For many reasons, I felt that the Tajara would be a good step in expanding my role-playing abilities as the history of Tajara is deeply rooted in every character. Unique political and socioeconomic backgrounds offer a robust selection of options for a player to choose from and plenty of information to allow for deep and meaningful character interactions. For a long time, I was planning to apply for Unathi, but friends of mine who play Tajara piqued my interest in the lore. Despite my initial fears of applying, I have found the lore wikis informative and easy to grasp, making the backstory writing process easy and entertaining. By applying for this whitelist, I hope that I will be able to expand my horizons in terms of future roleplay and further my narrative writing skills through that.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

Mechanically, the Tajaran species boasts many nuances and differences between humans. While supporting one of the fastest run speeds out of all races, they also can see in the dark unassisted. Of course, not all of the differences are good. The average Tajara is much weaker due to their lithe, thin build (circa Zhan-Khazan Tajara). From a roleplay perspective, Tajara differs significantly from humanity. The Tajaran people come from a planet that has been engulfed in war and conflict for nearly 60 years, tens of millions dying in the brutal conflicts. Adhomai has gone from a united world under the banner of the Peoples Republic of Adhomai after the first revolution, only to be engulfed in another decade of war a few years later during the second.

Adhomai’s unique backstory opens up a slew of intricate character arcs and personalities for those playing Tajara, from jaded veterans of the conflicts to the many civilians displaced by the brutal fighting. As a Tajaran player, it is expected that you incorporate Adhomai’s troubled past of noble rule and war into the character in addition to the politics of the cold war. Politics also play a heavy role in Tajaran culture and subsequently the roleplay based on it. Despite being lightyears away, Tajara across the galaxy are still faced with the harsh reality of Adhomian politics.

    Character Name: Sahi Khazka

Please provide a short backstory for this character

    Spoiler

    "Sahi Khazka... Correct?"

Asked the besuited, cinnamon furred Tajara as they shuffled through a stack of papers, lightly tapping them against the desk.

"Please, take a seat. He will be with them in a moment."

Sahi nodded, the silvery-white M'sai quietly setting her bag on the ground before sitting down in the rickety wooden chair.

"Oh- And confirm this information for him while they have a moment."

He placed a single slip of paper on the table, sliding it towards Sahi before returning to shuffling through a pile of manilla folders. Sahi nodded once more, carefully leaning forward and skimming through the document.

    Khazka, Sahi

    Sex: Female

    Height: 162cm

    Weight: 51kg

    Ethnic Background: M’sai

    Date of Birth: 09.11.2443 (DD/MM/YYYY)

Place of Birth: Bar'jar Regional Clinic, Bar'jar, New Kingdom of Adhomai

    “Looks correct to her.”

She continued to skim the paper for a minute, eventually finding herself lost in the wall of legal information, medical records, and close relatives.

"Good. If he is reading this correctly, they are looking for an entry-level job but are unaware of what is best, correct?"

Despite his rather stoic attitude, he spoke with remarkable eloquence—his impassive gaze showing that he was less than happy to be talking to a commoner. However, Sahi ignored the offputting demeanor of the Njarir, putting on her best smile and speaking up.

    "She is, yes."

There was a short pause as she contemplated what to say, nervously flicking her ears.

"She... Hopes to start a career in academia one day."

The Njarir nodded along, trying and failing to look interested in what the M’sai had to say.

"He sees. However, he cannot gauge what would be best without more information. Can she tell him a bit about herself? Interests... Hobbies... Relevant skills, things such as that."

Sahi's ears perked up as he spoke, his question seeming to spark her curiosity.

"Well... To explain that, she may have to go back a fair bit. She is a linguist."

The Tajara on the other side of the desk tilted his head, nodding slowly.

"So they are multi-lingual? He cannot say he has met many people that study linguistics."

He paused for a moment, rubbing his muzzle in thought.

"He will allow his curiosity to get the better of him here. Why linguistics over more relevant fields?"

Sahi gave a small smile before speaking up.

"Well... It all started a long time ago..."

Sahi Khazka was born an only child in the wake of the first revolution on November 9th, 2443, to a loving M’sai family living in a small fishing village a mere 10 kilometers north of Bar’jar. At the time, the sheer destruction that the 11-year conflict wrought still weighing heavily on the Tajaran people. Despite her family’s efforts to remain away from the fallout of the war, Adhomai was under the iron rule of the newly formed People’s Republic of Adhomai. Despite her family living in relative poverty compared to the average Tajara, the first few years of her life, she was blissfully unaware of the reality of the Hadiist regime, far too young to understand it.

Much of her childhood was spent in homeschooling by her mother while her father worked. Her father was a former cartographer from Bar’jar, turned fisherman, while her mother lived a far more modest life as a barmaid in Kaltir. Despite her parents both following the Ma'ta'ke Pantheon they opted not to push the religion onto her, deciding that letting her choose would be the best option. They met in the final years of the first revolution only a few months before the fall of The Kingdom of Kaltir at the age of 19 and 18, respectively. After a few months of careful consideration, her parents agreed to move out of the city. This mixture of urban and rural culture introduced her to a wide array of nuances and differences between the two, sparking what would eventually form her love for culturalism and linguistics.

Unfortunately, this barrier between childhood innocence and reality was shattered when she was only 7 with the advent of the second revolution. The sight and sound of warships leaving Bar’jar interspersed with the distant clatter of gunfire and thunderous booms of artillery became an everyday occurrence. All of this owing to the sheer intensity of the fighting happening not too far from home. Not even a month later, a group of sharply dressed men donning military garb entered the town, requesting one physically able male from every household. At first, Sahi was unaware of their intention, simply ushered into another room by her parents. This sudden action left her confused and worried for what felt like hours, but in reality, it was only 15 minutes…

    Spoiler

    “One… Two… Three… One… Two… Three… One… Two-”

Waiting... A child’s worst nightmare. Sahi was ushered into the small family room by her mother some fifteen minutes ago, but it felt like an hour had passed for her. The idle tick-tock of an old clock on the wall being the only thing to break the droning silence. To occupy herself, she opted to simply lie there, counting along with every tick of the clock.

Sahi’s counting was interrupted by the sound of the door slowly opening, causing her ears to perk up as she sat up from the uncomfortable wooden chair. After a few moments, her father stepped through the door and closed it behind him.

    “Papa!”

Sahi exclaimed, shooting up from the chair, quickly running over towards her father and embracing him, eliciting a chuckle from the rugged M’sai.

“Sahi, it has only been a few minutes, and you already miss me?”

She held onto the embrace for a few moments longer, only stopping as her father pulled back, kneeling to meet her at eye level.

    “It felt like ages!”

She saw him roll his eyes. However, the smile on his face fading as he looked down to the ground.

    “Well… I am glad to see you too… But…”

An eerie silence overtook the room as he stopped, prompting Sahi to tilt her head slightly.

    “But what?”

    Her father sighed.

“I… I came to tell you that I will have to go away for some time.”

Sahi frowned, seeming more confused than distraught at his statement.

    “Where are you going?”

There was a brief pause between the two.

“I cannot lie to you… South, to join the new army.”

That eerie silence once more enveloped the room. For Sahi, it felt as if the world around her had halted, the idle ticking of the clock growing quieter.

“W-Why do you have to go? You might get hurt!”

She was doing her utmost best to hold back her emotions, taking a few shaky breaths.

“The army needs me. To fight the Republic.”

Sahi blinked rapidly, trying to hold back tears to no avail, the feeling of a single tear rolling down her muzzle.

    “But… B-But you can’t leave… We need you… Don’t go…”

Her father sighed, seeming somewhat disheartened by her reaction. After taking a moment to collect himself, he spoke up once more, speaking in a soft voice.

“I know, but I need to. The king needs everyone who can fight. I’m… I’m sorry little one…”

He reached forward, hugging Sahi once more, something she swiftly returned. She couldn’t hold back any longer, letting the floodgates open as tears stream down her face as she held onto her father.

    “Please… Don’t go…”

The quiet sobbing echoed through the room, her father eventually releasing her without a word.

    “I must… But I’ll be back soon.”

He stood up, taking a slow breath in and letting it out, putting on a false smile as he looked into her eyes.

    “I promise.”

Her father’s conscription weighed heavily on Sahi, suddenly being without that presence at such a young age taking a toll on her emotionally. She had little more than an hour to come to terms with it before being forced to watch her father be carted away in a carriage. His promise was of little comfort, its validity coming into question as the days went by. One day became two, and two became three, three became a week, a week a month, and a month a year, and so on. The lack of infrastructure made news of the war sparse and often outdated. As the revolution entered its first year and the news of  Rhagrrhuzau Hadii’s assassination reached her home, there was little hope that her father would return anytime soon. Sahi could at least feel at ease, knowing that the man who stole her father away from her was gone.

The lack of a father figure left her mother alone to earn a living wage and finish Sahi’s homeschooling. And in all, this left Sahi with minimal free time, being all too young to take up any form of work offered in the town. With this free time, she became more involved in her studies, distracting her from the rather depressing reality she was facing. She jumped from one subject to another, purchasing what little books she could afford on topics varying from geography to the sciences. Eventually, however, she fell back on that same topic, linguistics and Tajaran culture. It was also at this point where she delved into the Ma'ta'ke and S'rand'marr faiths, studying both of them with a particular interest. The prospect of religion was interesting to her in the ways it applied to society as a whole, and being unbound by her own faith she enjoyed looking at the two faiths from an unbiased point of view.

At a young age, she paid little mind to the subtle nuances of how people spoke, only taking note when all she had left to do was stare through a window at the town. Faint memories of the slight differences between the Nal'rasan her parents spoke continued to fuel her interest. The terminology and slang used by her father compared to the more straightforward and modern speech patterns of her mother growing more apparent as she grew older. Pairing this with the unique culture of the Ahmodan immigrants who her father worked closely with in the fishing business exposed her to many cultures and people throughout her lifetime. It seemed fascinating, and it was the break she had been looking for from the monotony of life during wartime. Years passed uneventfully as the distant sounds of war grew quieter and memories of her father and childhood faded. The only thing that reminded her he was still out there being the occasional letter.

To keep her attention away from the war, as the front began to form and the rebels transitioned into a real army, she started going about the town more frequently. When her mother wasn’t asking her to help keep the house in order or practice mathematics, she took to the streets. Sahi found herself engrossed by the various cultures and the small oddities they offered, though she could not do any more than observe from a distance. The thought of her father still weighed heavily on her, her studies being the only thing keeping her afloat in tandem with her mother’s support.

Finally, at 15, as the revolution had turned in favor of the Republican Army, the letters suddenly stopped coming. Fear overtook Sahi and her mother, the thought of losing him looming overhead despite their efforts to remain hopeful. This fear almost became a reality when a single letter appeared on their doorstep, the Kingdom’s seal holding it closed. It read…

“His Majesty and Field-Marshal Rrhazhal Zarkradar'Akhan of the Imperial Army desire him to express their deepest regrets that your husband, Lance Corporal Rrazul Khazka, has been wounded in action and transported to the Kaltir Military Hospital on February 3rd, 2458.”

There was a mixture of fear and relief clouding her mind with this news for Sahi. Relieved that her father was alive but equally worried about the extend of his injuries. With what little money the family could muster, they paid for a ride to Kaltir via carriage. The journey was more of a blur than anything to speak about, the harsh winds of an ending winter making it somewhat uncomfortable, to put it simply. They arrived some four days later, passing through town after town, the pair found themselves in Kaltir. It was the first time she had ever really left “home”, and despite the nature of the visit, she found herself dumbfounded by the grand city. Technology on a level she never thought possible, cars, factories, and even aircraft.

This wonderment was short-lived; however, upon showing up to the hospital, the severity of the situation was apparent. Sahi’s father was in a week but stable condition. The majority of his left leg had been blown clean off from the lower thigh down, bloodied bandages tightly woven around it. It was an emotional moment for her and her family, having not seen or spoken to her father in eight years, after what felt like hours of reunion, her father recounting stories of heroism and comradery during his service. But, not all was well. The financial repercussions of his injury became more apparent as time passed. While the Imperial Army would cover his initial treatment, the burden of replacing his missing leg and long-term care was well beyond what her family could afford.

Sahi and her mother were only able to stay in the city for a few days before they were unable to stay, the cost of renting a ratty inn on the money they brought being too much. A month passed before yet another letter arrived informing them that her father would be returning home due to his injury. In all, it was a bittersweet victory. Sahi’s family was back together but at a high cost, the debt of his treatment standing at just shy of 10,000 credits. The dilemma was worsened because he needed someone at home to care for him, unable to engage in most activities without assistance. Sahi was left the only member of the family able to work, as her mother was now required to stay home most of the day.

And thus, Sahi was forced into working at only 16, managing to find a courier job for a local newspaper. It was very low-paying, pushing her to adopt a second job on top of her morning delivery route, eventually securing a job through her father’s connection to the local fishing companies. Sahi found herself pulling carts of clams and other seafood from the ships to the market daily. She was sure that this was going to be the rest of her life, finding little time to continue her studies, let alone spend time with her parents.

Sahi continued this work style until the end of the war, three years later. Of which she and many other Tajara in the now officially recognized New Kingdom of Adhomai celebrated the Armistice of Shastar. The conflict that had driven a wedge in her family and life was finally over, bringing a little joy to the overworked and tired Sahi. A few days passed by, Sahi cherishing the short time she could afford to take off work. During this time, Sahi bartered with one of the fishermen she found herself working for, offering to work more hours in exchange for a ride to Bar’jar. The word was out that computers and something coined the “extranet” had made its debut in the larger cities, a few making their way into public libraries for free use. Sahi’s interests were not set on entertainment or curiosity, but an extranet site coined “WorkDay” by its founders. She knew little about the site other than that it could easily connect her with employers offering better-paying jobs.

    “And now they are here?”

Sahi nodded in response to the question, snapping out of the daydreaming state she had put herself in as she recounted her story.

“Hrm… He will admit... She has an interesting story to tell. Hardworking people are what Nanotrasen is looking for, after all. He has no doubts they will fit in well. He believes that they are capable enough to take up a job as say… A bookkeeper? This should accommodate for their interests and skillset.”

He paused briefly for a moment.

“He believes they would be best suited for off-world jobs, however, if that poses no issue?”

Sahi reluctantly held her tongue, stopping herself from immediately denying his proposition outright.

“That… Would work. However… Where would she be working?”

The Njarir would respond immediately, practically cutting her off before she finished the sentence.

“Biesel, over or on Mendell specifically. He suspects he can find her accommodations in district six. Would that be an issue?”

The mention of this ‘district six’ seemed to confuse Sahi.

“District 6… On Mendell? Isn’t it known for organized-”

    She found herself cut off.

“Crime, yes. He can assure them that it will not be an issue.”

Sahi’s ears folded back at the mention of crime, let alone organized crime.

“And… The political situation in this district? She knows that many of Adhomai’s radicals have emigrated there. She does not want to be caught up in the path of any ‘political messages.’ The recent protests over hosting elections were enough politics this month.”

She chuckled softly, rubbing the back of her neck.

“Rest assured, as long as they watch what they say when outside, it shouldn’t be a factor.”

Sahi nodded slowly, thinking as he spoke.

“Well… She supposes this is worth a shot. They have a deal.”

The Njarir nodded, standing up and extending a hand for a shake.

“He is glad. Allow him to get the paperwork. Welcome to Nanotrasen.”

What do you like about this character?

Sahi Khazka is an average NKA commoner, which isn’t as common as unlanded nobles on the station (from what I have observed). Alongside this, I don’t believe I have seen many Tajara who work in the service department outside of the kitchen and bar, let alone have interests in the fields of linguistics and culturalism. I plan to use the background (debts and past experiences) to create unique and interesting character interactions and set in-character goals. Paying to support your parent’s living and medical bills alongside yourself is not an easy task!

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

On a scale from 1-10, I would rate myself a 7. While I am confident in my roleplaying capabilities and expressing emotions through speech, I am heavily outclassed by others, primarily in expression through action.

    Notes

Parts that are hidden by spoilers are still part of the backstory, just hidden behind those to allow for a more condensed look!

Did I go overboard on the backstory? Probably. Do I regret it? Kind of. However, on a more serious note, I had to wing a good bit of this story and fill in a few blanks where I couldn't find information in the lore! I hope that this won’t cause any issues with the application process. As a final side note, I am aware I did slightly rush the backstory as I wanted to cut it off there to avoid turning it into a novel. This may have led to a general lack of cohesiveness throughout it, and I believe the cause of that is my sub-par creative writing skills and slightly rushed work.

My first question is where Valeria got the impulse to protest? Was it innate in the programming? This seems like a fairly free action to take for an owned IPC.

The majority of their protest came from the fact that it was not their original tasking to handle the work and operations of other staff members (general practitioners, physicians, specialists). And, in doing so it ran the risk of inhibiting their ability to carry out said original tasking as a general practitioner, which was mostly notably working as a diagnostician and providing referrals (to hospitals, specialist, and treatment types).

33 minutes ago, The Stryker said:

Can you expand on this? How did Valeria form these friendships? How did it affect them (and their perception of the world), especially since much later on you go back to the idea of Valeria discovering friendship?

More over, how did Valeria move from simply focusing on work to deciding friendships were something to cultivate?

Much of their social interactions were derivatives from an attempt to emulate human societal norms to better fit into the workplace, which in turn held the chance of increasing productivity and overall allow the staff to feel more comfortable while working with an IPC. However, as they continued to develop these 'friendships', which originally held little actual value to the shell other than their possible benefits and opportunities they opened to further passively intake data about organic behavior.

46 minutes ago, The Stryker said:

What made Valeria feel or think to feel a particular fondness for Mayke, or more accurately, how did they think to convert friendship to fondness?

Maybe fondness wasn't the best word but I'll keep it nonetheless. Valeria grew close to Mayke for a variety of reasons. Not only had they been stuck in an insolated location with them for a prolonged period of time but they were also Valeria's best bet for self-preservation. And the last thing Valeria would want to do is isolate themselves further and greaten the risk destruction. So, this fondness developed further as this was one of the few times in Valeria's lifetime where the only thing there was to do was observe organic behavior and learn from it. Which, when first invited by Mayke to engage with the group, whether it be basic conversation, or storytelling, Valeria saw this as a friendly gesture from Mayke that should be returned. These offered a form of stimuli for the positronic brain that had not yet been thoroughly discovered or experience. Though unable to decipher exactly what it was but it provided the IPC a form of 'peace of mind', an assurance that the group and herself would survive the conflict. Which, all in all is something Valeria wanted to experience more of.

1 hour ago, The Stryker said:

Not quite as important, but what other effects did Mayke and the rest have on Valeria? Do they still keep in contact? Does this still affect the IPC?

As I touched on above, they introduced Valeria to various social bonds that organics develop when around one another often, and introduced her to what they didn't quite understand was the closest thing to real friendship they had ever experienced. This is something that Valeria would be left to consider and build on when not working after their departure. Despite doing their absolute best to stay connected with the group as an attempt to stay close, the months of separation causing one after another to slowly fade away. And eventually, no longer responding to the rather flat, straightforward emails that Valeria wrote, asking simple questions such as how they were, what they've been up to and similar things. With each person they fell out of touch with, the IPC would experience a renewed sense of confusion and 'sadness', something that they would grow to understand in a basic context. "Something bad has happened, I do not like this thing, this thing causes me some form of distress."

In all, with the references to emotion and the fairly human reactions, it seems that Valeria already knows about emotions. What changes if this character is a human?

I see where you're coming from, a lot of their reactions are admittedly too human for what is expected and I understand how that is very problematic. If I were to chalk this up to two things it would be her original programming, they were made to emulate a friendly out-going individual that patients feel they could trust, even if they didn't understand the meaning of anything they were saying in their first few months of work. Alongside this I believe the majority of their understanding came from witnessing it first hand in an insolated environment. Much similar to how a toddler picks up on meaning and emotions by watching their parents. And, when humans are cooped up with no where else to go for weeks on end they tend to become very close, which opened the path for Valeria to directly interact with it in a somewhat meaningful manner. (Being able to influence these, and maybe unintentionally develop their own.)

This of course would drastically change had they been a human because a human would understand the meaning behind all of this. A human knows when they are sad, angry, overjoyed, worried from a very young age, and often have a deep understanding of why they feel this way. But, this does not excuse my poor wording and story writing abilities. I admit that the final portions of this story were somewhat rushed as I had been working for an extended period of time and was doing my best to find a somewhat swift conclusion to the story.

All in all, I hope I answered these questions well enough, but I understand if these infractions are grounds for denial as they are quite serious due to the nature of IPCs and the limit of how human they can be. I'd also like to apologize if any of these answers are difficult to understand or outright wrong, I did my best to make a logical, well orchestrated answer but I am notoriously bad at things such as that.
