  1. BYOND key: BLUNTFORCE420 Discord Username: percboofer Character names: How long have you been playing on Aurora? 2020? 2021? Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame? Heads of Staff exist to coordinate, delegate, and plug gaps in both mechanical and knowledge-based holes in their respective departments (provided it is reasonable knowledge for the character). Additionally, heads of staff with command-level privileges and access can, when used appropriately, enable or escalate antagonist gimmicks beyond the level of the mundane crew (think big picture merc gimmicks, etc.). They should also be communicative in pursuing this, as their ability to instantly communicate with other departments via the rest of command means they can better maintain departmental and crew cohesion, especially during times of crises, and help promote mechanically "good" play. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them? Being entrusted with command-level decision making power means that command-level characters should act realistically and responsibly within reason for their characters. Command players in particular should be toeing the line between enabling antagonist play without "throwing" the round for their department, promoting fun and good roleplay for those involved. As my trial character will be HoS, I will strive to do that aforementioned line-toeing as an extension of my normal sec play. Explain how the recent events in the Spur changed your character and how they came to be employed on the SCCV Horizon. The recent expansion of Hephaestus finds Meng Jie transferred onto the Horizon in support of its exploration efforts. Once an industrial shipbuilder from the Solarian Alliance, a freak assembly line accident cost him an arm within months of his fire. As fate would have it, he soon sought new opportunities within the company as a security officer, stationed on various backwater mining facilities to provide site security. Years would pass, and he'd rise in responsibility until he oversaw entire platforms, and to extend Hephaestus's influence within the SCC to new ground, there were few better candidates to send to the Horizon. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Head of Security Chief Medical Officer (possibly, due to Nov 2 ruling) Consular (possibly, due to two consular PR) Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes. I have primarily played security during my time here, and I understand the obligations, expectations, and responsibilities of the roles therein for purposes of my trial. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking: Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yes. Have you linked your BYOND account to the Forums? I think so? Extra notes: UTOPIA AOTY

  3. BYOND Key: BLUNTFORCE420 Total Ban Length: Permanent Banning staff member's Key: minimoosetm#0 Reason of Ban: Once again your name is inappropriate. You were literally spoken to about this a few days ago by Mel. I’d strike, but you won’t learn your lesson if I do. Reason for Appeal: I changed my nickname after getting struck on 9/16 to "Ridge Wallet, phd". I assume the permanent ban was applied two days later on 9/18 due to my discord name at the time. I do not have discord nitro and am not paying money for serverside profiles, and the username was mostly directly at my discord of IRL friends. My display name was and is still t0l, and my nickname in Aurora discords changes frequently with the meme of the month. I have had this username for at least one month, if not two, and nobody in any discord that I was in, of at least 24 before I was banned from Aurora general and the relay, took issue with my actual discord username, which you have to open my entire profile to actually see. As far as I am aware, nobody even commented on this until I was suddenly and abruptly banned while asleep at 3 AM EST. I will change my actual discord username back to percboofer as t0l is now taken and so is my ckey, and will try to police my auroraverse nicknames better in the future.
  4. I am proposing we merge the pharmacist and physician roles into a general chemist/GTR role named Medical Technician with an alt-title of Nurse (plus other suggestions). Why? Physician is the GTR role. First Responders can do almost everything a physician does, but they get to leave the department. Surgeons get to do everything a physician does, but do all surgeries. Pharmacists, when asked as I have been increasingly so in the last few weeks I've played, can do everything a physician does, but they get to make all of the chems. This is not a long affair, and my best times for completing all of the chems is currently hovering around 11 minutes using an old guide made by Vrow on my second monitor and a cryo mix guide from Ramke (with some practice). The issue is, Pharmacist does not have a real gameplay loop outside of making these chems, which are essential to the success of the medical department, without being asked to assist in the GTR. Physician also doesn't have a gameplay loop outside of being in the GTR treating patients, which all of the other roles can already do and then some. By merging the two, we reduce these gameplay loop issues, since the medical technician can make chems at the start of the round and remain on standby for people coming into the GTR for the remainder of the round. The primary issue with this that I can see is going to be existing roleplay for medical doctors. Going from Physician to a general "technician" role would be almost a retcon and deprive characters of the doctor title. Leaving it as physician would be fine, but traditional job separation on SS13 might make it so that physician players may not think making chems is part of their role. Tell me what you think. EDIT: I'd also support having 3 medical techs instead of 2 pharm/2 physician, just so it doesn't feel like medical loses manpower in dire emergencies.
  5. chatgpt write a court brief type beat memes aside there can be interesting peace antag gimmicks that dont necessarily have to escalate, but if you're waiting until transfer vote to pop off then yeah i think you should at the very least get a note/warning
  6. Type (e.g. Planet, Faction, System): Faction Short Description: A touch-up of the recently-approved and posted Frontier Protection Bureau lore to provide an expanded backstory for origins and (some) duties of both the Coalition Rangers and Frontier Marshal Service. How will this be reflected on-station?: It provides a better background/justification for the existence of Coalition-unique equipment currently in-game and also helps pave the way for depictions of Coalition forces in inevitable NBT gimmicks. Does this addition do anything not achieved by what already exists?: The additions simply serve to provide greater distinction between the two major branches of the FPB, provide a more concrete backstory for both, and better organize the lore. Also kinda-sorta makes it flow a little better. Do you understand that the project may change over time in ways that you may not foresee once it is handed over to the Lore Team? Yes. Long Description: Here Additional Notes: All changes were made with input and approval from Lucaken.
  7. Shelving this one. I'd probably get better mileage out of something else, another request to follow some day.
  8. The bag's one pixel taller and features contrasting zippers like on the older mob sprite in order to reflect the type of fannypack that you'd reasonably need to store and readily access forensics tools. The current appearance of the recolorable fannypack is smaller, flatter in appearance, and I'm pretty sure the belt-flipping option is broken as I've tried a couple times and it didn't work. If there's enough of a demand for it, I could see about making the regular fannypack be able to be worn on the hip, but I don't exactly foresee the character wanting to wear this thing any other way and figured this was probably the easier route to take.
  9. BYOND Key: BLUNTFORCE420 Discord Username: t0l#4888 Character Name: Tal Yahalom Item Name: brown waist bag Item Function(s): A belt slot item with identical storage capacity to the existing fannypack, only worn on the left hip and slightly larger in appearance. Item Description: A simple waist bag made from a sturdy brown fabric, featuring two separate zippered compartments for keeping tools, devices, and other small essentials in a single, convenient storage solution. The adjustable waist strap features improvised padding along the inside and is deliberately oversized to facilitate wear over bulkier outerwear. This particular example, noticeably weathered and worn, has certainly seen better days. Why is your character bringing this item to work?: Tal uses the fannypack currently to carry the bare essentials of the Forensics kit instead of lugging the entire box around, keeping his hands free. During code blue/red situations, he swaps the content for medical equipment for quicker access. How did your character obtain this item?: The fannypack was an item bought from a trader in the frontier, and later modified with a small belt pouch sewn onto the front face. What value does this item have to your character, and what story does it tell?: Tal wore this bag while working as a pirate hunter/"Ranger" in the Coalition, tasked with using basic forensic science to better track and catch various unsavory individuals along the Warpway. The sudden, violent nature of confrontations in this environment meant that he was forced to carry heavy weapons and wear EVA-capable suits while on the job, greatly limiting his carrying capacity. Conducting a majority of his work in the field, usually aboard freighters, the waist bag occupied empty space on his hip and allowed for him to bring the bare minimum of forensics equipment needed to do his job in a fairly unobtrusive manner. Sprites: Additional Comments: He's been "that fannypack investigator" since I made him nearly a year-ish ago, except I forgot custom items existed. tal_waistbag.dmi
  10. I imagined they'd start with a base of knowledge and then work under supervision to make sure they understand the practice and receive supplemental training based on where the gaps are, if any. I mostly didn't want to go all-in on starter packs in case I ended up being wrong. As far as their personal backstory goes, it'd probably be pretty mundane considering their line of work. They saw employment in numerous Zeng-Hu clinics in Mendell before beginning work aboard the Aurora, getting exposure to personalities from all walks of life. The types of activities they'd be participating in would be largely drug information-related and involve some degree of interaction, like counseling, as well as helping with medication management and using chemmasters to produce things. There's not a whole lot to be said about their time with Zeng-Hu, except that a few sour experiences with more outwardly racist individuals would definitely lead to them seeking work aboard a more permanent installation. Since they are a Bishop, the cost to buy their own freedom is extraordinary and it would be fairly unlikely to happen anytime soon. Of course. I envision them to be empathetic and positive, as much as an IPC could be with a veneer of robotic-ness to it, all to improve patient receptiveness and comfort, especially considering the diversity of the patient population. As an overall, they're fairly proactive with regards to their job, and eager to work. Yeah, I'm aware of this. The influence is undeniable, but at the end of the day they still are wholly different from your average human.
  11. BYOND Key: BLUNTFORCE420 Character Names: Tal Yahalom, Melvin Chang, assorted others Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character: N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I personally think it makes a lot of sense in the context of Aurora's setting that many jobs are delegated to cheaper, lower-maintenance IPCs, with a corresponding shift in design over time that results in a number of highly-specialized synthetics capable of performing these tasks better than humans could. With Tau Ceti being a hub for mega-corporations, it only makes sense that a meaningful portion of the workforce is synthetic, and I want to be able to portray and be a part of that. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: I don't believe that playing an IPC is too far removed from a human, aside from clear mechanical differences, since they are not only creations of humans but largely operate in environments alongside organics. This coupled with their ability to learn means that while they will never fully imitate a human, their work environment will shape them and their personalities a lot more than it would to your average workforce-aged human being. The primary distinction between the two, however, is a set of guidelines such as the self-preservation clause, that while technically limiting, are still open to interpretation and as such grants opportunities to diversify roleplay provided that there is an acceptable justification for the actions taken. In addition, the ability to mimic emotions can be molded to provide roleplay that is situationally implausible for a human. The blank slate from which synthetics are drawn allows for a very diverse selection of jobs, character archetypes, and personalities that may not be replicated by a similar human character. A lot of the more dystopian aspects of IPC life are plainly out in the open, such as laws about damaging property, adding potential for deeper, introspective stories regarding discrimination and sentience. Character Name: ZH-Pestle Please provide a short backstory for this character (Approximately two paragraphs): Part of a more recent generation of Zeng-Hu positronics built by Hephaestus Industries and finished on Oran, Pestle, named for an instrument historically associated with pharmacy practice, represents the latest and greatest in pharmaceutical positronic development. Sparked by exposure to Bishop frames, Zeng-Hu executives believed that there was hidden potential in their subsidiary's product. Qualities that made them excellent in service roles would hopefully translate well to working in a laboratory, where accuracy is paramount to patient safety, and by extension, continued revenue. Utilizing the Bishop frame's capabilities for a much less elegant line of work than originally envisioned, Pestle is capable of quickly producing medication under duress with an incredibly small margin of error and acts as a valuable drug information resource for their fellow medical staff, possessing a wealth of knowledge that enables them to calculate complex dosage adjustments on the fly for any number of patients in a given wing. Other features found suitable for their line of work include automated medical record housekeeping--freeing up other personnel to conduct their own duties--and limited emotional emulation, along with multiple language comprehension to improve patient interactions. Manufactured in series, IPCs of this line were quickly trained and educated on the intricacies of pharmacy practice, destined for employment in one of many Zeng-Hu medical facilities across the spur. Pestle saw early work in numerous clinics across Mendell City, where they were afforded a fair degree of autonomy with regards to providing medication, individualized counseling, and other miscellaneous services relevant to the practice. While models of this type were intended to potentially fully replace the organic pharmacist, observations and feedback over the course of a few years saw them better served as assistants to supplement existing infrastructure, for which the high cost of a Bishop frame was not justified. Further production was cancelled, though existing units were allowed to continue to work as clinical pharmacists for Zeng-Hu, taking shifts wherever necessary to fill gaps in care. What do you like about this character? (Describe what you like about this character): This character effectively fills the criteria I laid out in the first question. They are a highly-specialized IPC that brings good capability to the workforce with plenty of potential to grow as they interact with other characters on the Aurora, and really more feels like an extension of my pharmacist character, who I felt had a number of shortcomings with regards to limitations of the role. With the added quirkiness of being an IPC, I'd like to get a little more in-depth with it, either through poses, emotes, or hopefully some more personalized patient interaction roleplay. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 10/10.
