BYOND Ckey: Kelnor Discord username: kelnor9781 Character names: Dumitra Moore, Minerva Galen, Ka'Akaix'Pilcg'Cthur, Jennifer Volvalaad Species you are applying to play: Tajara ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: (IPCs exempt) Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this species: To have a swing dancing Taj medic. But also to explore Tajara lore from the inside. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: Tajara are a young species, and they mature fast and die fast. Be more active, less patient, you only have like 50 years probably, that's half a humans, This one has to hurry and catch up to them. Exploit their lazzyness. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Rashel Arrask'chel Write a backstory for your character: Msai/Njarir, silver white. (Edit, I forgot to update the fur color when making a change in my head) Born in Little Adhomai to a first generation NKA transplant, I'm thinking her grandmother or grandfather was a very minor noble that just gave up and embraced Biesel. They'd be the Njarir influence, they met their partner in Little Adhomai, a M'sai . That or maybe her father/mother was the one that gave up, since they'd barely remember Adhomai and married the M'sai, and probably got disowned for marrying them. Could use feedback there. I can drop the minor nobility idea and make her straight M'sai. If I include the Njarir heritage I'd probably make her a M'sai mechanically and hide the hell out of her noble origins to avoid conflict (see below about the second rev and moving out of Little Adhomai.) It really comes down to how minor a noble can be, and I don't understand the lore well enough for that yet. Could use feedback here. Their Grandparents would have left before the second revolution, probably in response to rising tensions and fear. So maybe 2440ish? This'd put Rashel at about 18 year old now0 if her parents had her around 18-20? Her parents moved out of Little Adhomai after the second revolution sparked the unrest, moving to a rural part of Biesel. She would have been 2 years old then in 2451. In the countryside she grew up alongside other rural Biesellites, mostly human probably. This is partly why her parents chose a name that sounds similar to Rachel. She probably responds better to Rachel than Rashel by now anyway. Her rural upbringing made her good with a rifle, and as a hunter and farmer/rancher. Mostly ranching. They'd have raised Fatshouters to supply milk and meat to Little Adhomai. Her main connection to Tajara would be the festivals in Little Adhomai, her parents would take her there sometimes when delivering produce to the market, and every time there was a festival. She probably doesn't speak any Tajaran languages. Just basic. She'd speak third person when referring to herself (She, This One) because of her parents but I'm considering using first person possessives (mine, ours) to represent her more hyper-capitalist BIesellite view on possession of property? When turning 15 she joined the TCFL, then TCAF and was trained as a combat medic. And finally, the main OOC reason I want the WL and to make her. She loves Electro-Swing and owns some headphones How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character. (1 paragraph minimum) How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? (1 paragraph minimum) She's a second generation Biesellite, only her grandparents would have stories from Adhomai, but now that she's surrounded by Adhomian Tajara, I expect she'll develop an interest in her history. The recent democratic toppling of Dorn probably has paralells to Hadii I could explore too. Her partial nobility, if kept, could spark an arc about how her parents abandoned her responsibility, or how she's the enemy by blood of some Tajara aboard. I don't understand the lore well enough to fully guess how that'll go but it should be fun. Mostly she's just a Biesellite though so she sees this is a chance to get out of her bubble and explore the unknown (and the spur when we return) Her view on megacorps boils down to money == good things, because Biesel, all hail Miranda.

Xeno-Botanical Project Proposal for Safer K'ois Horticulture
Kelnor replied to Kelnor's topic in Personal Query Terminal
Update: I've done 6 trials with the following Protocol. Using the structure and vigor trait from Coco Leaf, transplanted into K'ois. Protocol: Force feed one monkey, Subject 1, with the modified K'ois strain's fruit. Tried variations ranging from half a fruit, to two fruits. Force feed a control monkey, Control Subject, with unmodified K'ois, the same amount as the modified strain. Using halves of the fruit as a quanta. Observe Response, optionally inject dylovene. Wait 20 minutes. scan both subjects, Metrics used: Time to respiratory distress, pain response, presence of and time till sporing events, presence and health of the mycosis organ during autopsy. The primary metric I've focused on is the presence of a Mycosis organ. Three of the six control Subjects grew a mycosis organ, none spored, all organs were necrotic at time of autopsy. Zero of the six Subject 1's exhibited mycosal growths. There's a 1.5625% chance of this being due to random chance. 3/6 chance of mycosis in the control subjects. Chance of my modified strain not causing a mycosis in 6 trials is: 0.5^6 = 0.0015625 --- Doctor Orelia Osteen, Zeng Hu Contractor, XenoBotany Department. -
Background: Being out of resupply range, the prepackaged K'ois available in the Kitchen could start becoming scarce, which would necessitate the growing of K'ois by Hydroponics. In my experience Hydroponics rarely grows K'ois and such this is likely a very atrophied skill for many. Additionally, sporing during harvest may cause issues with Vaurca participating in the Hydroponics Tray Program in residential. Though I'm unfamiliar with the details. Proposal: Produce a strain of K'ois that does not spore, and who's fruit will not root outside of a hydroponics tray or other sufficiently nutrient rich soil. Summary of Preliminary Research: Preliminary trials have gone well, replacing the structure prevents a sporing event in 100% of the trials I've run. The fruit produced is of a different structure than K'ois, and this has implications for Vaurcan tastes but no affect on the nutritional content. All fruit contain Phoron and K'ois with no nutriment or other contaminants. Identical to a normal K'ois fruit. The fruit will not root if placed in contact with a surface as normal. The fruit emits the same yellow glow as K'ois, I've been told it is pleasing by most vuarca that witness it. Direct consumption of the modified fruit by a non Vaurcan results in mycosis and a sporing event, 5 units of the fruit was insufficient to cause death in a monkey, 15u caused a sporing event followed by expiration. No rooting of the spores was observed, indicating it may be passing on the new genome, but this is unknown. Further trials should include an uninfected monkey to check for mycosis vector infection. Conclusion and benefits: It currently seems that havest sporing and unintentional rooting can be prevented while producing a nutritionally viable K'ois substitute. Addiontally, if the project is approved, the structure of the fruit is changed drastically, Vaurcan Marketing representatives should collect data on which structures would be most desired. This strain could reduce the risk of mishaps in Hydroponics, preservation of prepackaged K'ois for shifts lacking a Hydroponicist and growing of K'ois in Vaurcan quarters without risks of a harvest sporing event getting loose. It's worth noting having K'ois growing in their room, specifically the glow, may be beneficial to their mental wellbeing, which may be an avenue of research for someone else to follow up on. Alternative: Ensure training for Hydroponicist's k'ois procedure is being maintained. I believe, and may be wrong, that easy access to prepackaged K'ois may be hiding an atrophied skill. --- Doctor Orelia Osteen, Zeng Hu Contractor, XenoBotany Department.

Reporting Personnel: Janine Volvalaad Job Title of Reporting Personnel: Investigator Game ID: cA3-dnJt Personnel Involved: S'Athur Keshk, Janitor- Offender Zarvah Kir'Dynhsam, Bartender - Witness Time of Incident: 22:00 (Approx. based off my Case Report notes) Real Time: Location of Incident: Bar Room (Private area, not the lounge) Nature of Incident: [ ] - Workplace Hazard [ ] - Accident/Injury [ ] - Destruction of Property [ ] - Neglect of Duty [ ] - Harassment [ ] - Assault [x ] - Misconduct [x ] - Other Biesel Law Violation Overview of the Incident: Officer Jackson informed us over the security radio that Zarvah Kir'Dynhsam witnessed potential illegal drug use. I (Janine Volvalaad) moved to the bar to question the witness. Summary of her testimony is provided under evidence, she went to quarters before I could have her confirm and sign it. She informed me she witnessed an Unathi snort a purple powder, before leaving the bar via the aft Maintenance door. I collected fibers and fingerprints from the bar side of the door in question, the result was two finger prints. One of the fingerprints was a partial match for S'Athur Keshk, I located S'Arthur Keshk and observed that his attire and scale complexion matched the description. Janitor is also one of the assignments who's access could open the Bar room maintenance door. Based on this circumstantial evidence, a search warrant and blood test was authorized. Officer Jackson executed a search and found a bottle of Mortaphenyl pills. I then escorted Keshk to medical and Yekta Hartfort retrieved and tested a blood sample for illegal substances. The results indicated Keshk had ingested Sparkle. Keshk was arrested but due to an unrelated event, some confusion occurred. As such Mister Keshk's incident description is very inaccurate. There was not time to conduct an interview with Keshk. (((It was a wild ling round and during the search of Keshk in processing we found a syringe with mindbreaker and all kinds of other bad stuff, that looked like an Antag concoction. Sparkle might have been in maintenance but my OOC instincts say the syringe was antag related. The officer processing Keshk didn't know about my investigation and I think processed it like an antag charge maybe. The warrant was also never approved because the HoS insisted that I could just do the search because we were on blue. We were on blue for the lings, unrelated (probably) to Keshk.))) Submitted Evidence: (Ignore the signatures I forgot to reset my signature. Greyson Martins == Janine Volvalaad I neglected to add the mortaphenyl pill bottle to the manifest. I neglected to include the description of the Unathi's attire, a dark jacket made of what looked like leather. Would you like to be personally interviewed? [ ] - Yes [ ] - No Did you report it to a Head of Staff or a superior? Yes, Mari’ri Azumara Actions taken: An arrest was affected, however the incident description is in error. Additional Notes:

I'm chiming in because I was the security officer that got bullied there. It's still too early for me to endorse the app one way or another but that interaction was fine. He raised an eyebrow, I intentionally OOCLy ignored it because she was playing a video game. Mbong then lied about Slaughter ordering the "training." I forced Mbong to get Captain Level auth. We had an argument about whether the XO had this, as it turns out Mbong was lying anyway. She went with an injunction for the paperwork, which is fine, slaughter signed it, which was a mistake but it's fine, especially for a new XO getting played by an experience suit, it makes sense. We then got to do some funny RP of Mbong giving me Ettiquette training. Eventually Haller showed up mid situation, and watched for a bit, then shut down the injunction when me and mbong hit a brick wall and couldn't really continue without shouting the same thing back and forth. It was good fun and that situation shouldn't be held against Slaughter at all OOCly. -

I just don't see why this is a good thing. So sec throws scissors and then if the antag didn't save enough TC for the rock they just die, if they did, sec just dies. My issue is rock always beats scissors without a massive skill gap and that's not fun. -

I also just realized this is kinda mess up lorewise. Invading Elyra? Good news, just wear standard ablative and you can't die unless you get hit by artillery. (Exageration) I'm now imagining a firing line of Elyrans in Kevlar wrapped Ceramic plates standing in the open shooting ballistic armed Dominians in ablative doing the same and everyone's just fine. -

Well, the antags are still playing the game with weapon choice (somewhat.) but "The Horizon can always win" isn't really true unless the HoS is willing to burn 10-20 minutes swapping armor regardless of the fact that a transfer vote is about to happen and that the Antags didn't split their TC on energy and ballistic. They probably should split their buys too from a mechanical point of view, but then that screws with their Gimmick potentially (Sol Marines rocking even a few laser rifles would raise eyebrows. Merging armors could let the Antags choose weapons based on window penetration/injury/capability/lore or at least not worry about whether they're gonna get hard countered. And if we do really want this for, "the Horizon will always win" we should have 4 of each armor + something for the HoS preferably (even if it's just a plate for the chest carrier and a good helmet and standard limb guards? The HoS shouldn't have to worry too much about limb shots if they have 4 officers.) I caught some stray 7.62 once from across the dining room out of sight wearing standard HoS plate because i had a full team and died almost immediately. If we're going to make armor that important, I should at least have my vital organs protected. -

I also think Riot/Standard/Military distinctions make more sense for escalation. We could also lock our military armor and weapons behind Red Alert or Captain access and lock out high caliber dangerous antag weapons if no command. Standard armor can be balanced to do decent (but not impervious) versus mid range pistol and 5.56 and normal antag energy rifles, you'll go down fairly easy if 5.56 hits you, but as long as your buddies pull you back you'll live. This means military level escalation requires a Captain or Command that can take the spare or order the AI with a Command Level Vote or two Command initiating Red Alert. For Odyssey, the ST can unlock the military armory without Command or to make it so the Command team doesn't have to steal the spare or have an AI (ICly it's a remote unlock from the SCC.) I also just realized, military weapons shouldn't be locked behind the access, just the ammo (so officers can train with the weapon without a Captain.) -
My main gripe here is going to be Ablative vs Ballistic armor and what that does to the round. I think it's a rock paper scissors mechanic that's too powerful. (all other things being equal, armor choice hard decides the outcome.) and should really just be removed (I have some other options too.) First, armor is bulky and hard to transport, meaning changing armor takes time, and usually happens after the standoff phase (since that's when you know what the Antags are packing.) There have been times I've ordered an assault when I know I should change armors, and we're all going to die unless the antag really really sucks, but my Command WL tells me now is the time to go, and it feels horrible. Second, since, imo, armor choice is so impactful, both sides commanders really should avoid engagement unless they have the correct armor, this is difficult for antags (they might have spent their TC already) and it's time consuming for Security (especially without a Warden) Armor choice just eats time, and adds annoying complexity. Third, out of all the things I have to deal with as a HoS, scouting the Antag's weapons is the least enjoyable for me, but also the most important thing (outside of commanding the actual assault) I could be coordinating officer deployment, or RP Negotiating with the Antag, instead of I'm asking officers to report their weapons and using binochs to try to scout theres. The only justification I can think of for this is to have the commander scout weapons and order the correct armor in first. Then use the wrong armor to follow up to add their guns while minimizing their exposure. I feel like, while that's kind of cool, why not just let everyone participate in the assault instead of just the officers that happen to have the right set (there's only two sets of each and four officers remember.) Also, I think it makes defense a bit too easy, mercs can just put their lasers up front, and if they see ablative enter, they can fall back and let their friends with 7.62 handle it, then by the time the Ballistic armor gets in behind, the lasers just step up and blat them. I must ask, why have a difference in armor at all? Especially when there's plenty of other (more fun, and meaningful) differences between Laser and Ballistic. My three suggestions: One: Remove the distinction between armors, just make them the same, the only distinctions being Riot (for protection against the kind of weapons crew reasonably might get,) Standard, good against concealable weapons, and anti-boarding (the best armor security can have against high caliber small arms without science/mining/whatever) Two: Close the gap a bit, I feel like winning against someone while in the wrong armor requires you to be much much better than your opponent, even to the point where the significantly less skilled player will likel8y win. I might be wrong about how significant the difference is. Three: Give Security Carriers, and the armory plates, plates are long and wide but don't take up much space. You need a bag to carry them, but they don't' take much space. This would make it easier to change armors in the field but see below why I think we should just get rid of the distinction completely I'm in favor one option one, since, imo, the other two don't really make sense, if we have to close the gap between the two armors, we should ask why the gap exists at all. There's already a huge difference in how ballistic vs energy works, I don't think enemy armor type needs to complicate the matter. And option three, would likely result in an officer at a barricade seeing the antag pull out a laser weapon, then swapping in ablative plate, then watching them pull out a 7.62, and switching back to ballistic, then they pull out the laser... you get the idea.

Tried to involve themselves in the peacetag, they didn't really have time, but the point is his CE didn't just hide in engineering and handled things before I had to worry about them. +1 from a Cappy point of view.
