  1. Is solar power meant to be purely supplementary to APC recharging? Ive used it and even in bright lighting without moving it still drains my power very fast. (This is prior to the just announced power drain changes, so unknown if its still the case.)
  2. Consular aura farming has severely dropped after the introduction of bodyguards and aides.
  3. Cool guy, but more importantly for a dev they do seem to be pretty active in seeking feedback and making their stuff good. With the recent bioaugments PR which is a nice bit of content overall i've seen them actively go out and ask people who've used the augs on feedback for them, and they seem to quickly make changes to their PRs when an issue is found. Having more, and at that skilled devs is good. +1
  4. Saw casgam skratorou skrojo post on discord yesterday.
  5. BYOND key: UltraNumeron Discord Username: Character names: I have a backlog of many characters, though the ones I have played in recent times would be: Izhak Zhals'ic - Shaft Miner, Hephaestus. HEVEX MK2-226 - Shaft Miner, Hephaestus. Sa'zzhek Sarick - Security Officer, PMCG Eagle Corp. Zhories Rozho - Warden, PMCG Dagamuir. How long have you been playing on Aurora? Off and on for about two years now? Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? Aye, i went through the antag main washer when i was new and mucked that up a bit. Got a temp antag ban for a week after one ling round went sour and then got a player complaint for starting a locker cult as a gimmick (Which now looking back was very silly of me.) which got me antag banned for a while. Though I've appealed that now, and had quite a bit of success with both antags and non-antags now, as i know quite well where the lines are now and have had my gimmicks be pretty well liked now. Along with also not playing on-ship very antags much and getting some characters developed. I think in some sense this may even be a positive for playing HOS and command, considering it means I know quite well what things are like for antags and can work around that to ensure the round goes well. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame? To organize fun things for their department and the crew to do when nothing is happening to keep people entertained. Keep your department running well, while not overly disrupting those in it. When things are happening like antag gimmicks, to in a sense work with them to make sure the round goes well for everyone, while in the end doing your part to foil them as your job and the narrative demands. A balance especially important for roles like HOS and Captain. While also of course acting as a competent and likeable example for your department, ensuring things are being done properly. Along with of course responsibilities like managing round alert level and such. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them? To bolster the flow of the round and not hinder it, making it more interesting rather than more boring. To be helpful and kind to those who need it, and not be an asshole. And also to give other players and characters the opportunity to shine. So to do this id make sure to humor antag gimmicks, while providing foil to them as the round demands. Teach new players, and make sure there is competency in my department while not being overly stuck up. And to ultimately allow others to play their role and have their good moments, without hogging too much for myself. Along with of course the responsibility to be an example to other players, both oocly in being a good egg and following the rules. And icly in playing interesting characters that fit the lore and atmosphere of the server. Explain how the recent events in the Spur changed your character and how they came to be employed on the SCCV Horizon. The character is Yazhari Skalnac, a veteran from the contact war who fought on the side of the Hegemony. In the years after using the experience gained from the war to join the newly formed Fighters Lodge guild, working as a mercenary, often as part of and sometimes leading private security details. Gaining experience and education in this line of work during their time in the guild, and doing overall quite well on the job. In time joining the Freewater Forces, seeing them as a better fit compared to the increasingly Hephaestus centered lodge. With him eventually now getting a good spot dealing with security on the Horizon through the PMCG and SCC. Seeing it as a good fit for his talents. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Main one i am interested in is Head Of Security and it's what ill be trialing for. Though also id like to try captaining sometime, or playing consulars, and of course being the storyteller for some odyssey rounds. Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Aye I've read through all the ones I've expressed interest in above, and even those I did not. Along with pages such as the SCC page. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking: Yazhari Skalnac - Head Of Security Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Aye i read the whitelist rules and understand them, including that clause. Hopefully a clause that won't need to get activated on me though. Have you linked your BYOND account to the Forums? I think I have so at least? Been a long time and I'm not sure how to even really confirm that. Extra notes: Hope to be a good HOS, the command side seems fun and a good fit for me and i want to try it out.
  6. Yeah in the last few rounds there has been a bit much of a case of mechs showing up and wrecking mercs early. Which to be fair is in some part due to them having pretty janky defense mechanics, needing you to change targets and examine them midfight to actually disable and kill them.
  7. One thing that should be noted is, that a full ling/vampire gimmick for mercs is not particularly possible anywho if the items cost 20tc. Since they start with 15 each, at most three would have it (which would deprive the remaining guy of all tc) And so we would likely only see 1-2 of them if mercs do decide to include them in their gimmicks.
  8. I think this is slightly beyond my abilities to make myself, so set up a request on the discord requests board if anyone who knows code is willing to try their hand at it.
  9. Antag here, I respect crew fighting back and it does make for a better round then no pushback. Though yeah it is definetly alot better to have the crew use their own department gear and such to do so, rather than taking from the armory which can baloon pretty easily into a militia. It should also be noted that guns are not a good scare tactic against people who also have guns and armor. Because that is not intimidating someone with superior force but starting a firefight. Should also note the reason i chased you all there was because the hostage already managed to get away! A mishap with the field generator stunned me for a few seconds that they managed to escape with, and I found you coming at me in maint when i chased after so we had a scuffle. Which ended with me sedated and having dropped my guns and locked up in the containment chamber with the others now armed with my guns. From which i escaped with an energy sword i had in my pocket from my gear loadout and cut through the wall and took down the now armed scientist and retrieved my gun and pda uplink. From which the rest Fabian already said. Overall crew fighting back with their own weapons rather than the armories made it a pretty fun and interesting round with relatively fair combat against the crew! And Id have been happy to have seen you join the conflict too, just without need for armory guns. There was no security and i took their colleagues hostage with a gun and voidsuit, so the crew had right to do as they did.
  10. Basically, the suggestion is to remove changelings and vampires from the secret rotation, and making them 20tc items in the uplink that turn you into them. Similar to how psionics were made into an uplink item. Changelings and especially vampires are already a bit notoriously janky and ill fitting, so making them fit in autotraitor and offship antags however the gimmick demands would give alot more room for them to get good use. Along with this change giving them access to BC which would allow them to make announcements to start a narrative for the round and make their powers fit in it. While also allowing them to get things like chameleon kits to set their outfits and so on. I feel merging these pretty outdated antags into the uplink system would pretty much only improve them and the rounds they're in, and give room for more and better gimmicks. Along with allowing offships like burglars and mercs to make use of them in their gimmicks.
  11. Wizard sees fusion turn iron to gold
  12. It'd be nice if we had an antag popup window like other servers do. But in the end WYCI and this does the job enough for now.
  13. Serious discussion gets neglected because the channel is vaguely named serious discussion. It does not really imply much and elaborates only that it's a place to seriously discuss issues. Which, does not make it appear much as a place to talk about the game overall.
  14. Also while were at it, might aswell just add a mechanical discussion channel too. For talking about balance and gameplay and so on, since general chat is dominated by unrelated things mostly.
  15. Since the help server got merged with this one, there has not really been any place to ask mechanical questions about the server, so adding a channel for that (maybe some for specific departments too?) would be great. Especially since our wiki is quite outdated and our codebase is quite different from other SS13 servers. Learning in-game is nice though you do sometimes need to ask about some things beforehand.
  16. Yeah I agree that at the very least pain should not kill at high brain activity.
  17. Well yes, though it should be noted that the fracture already slows you down heavily and makes you keel over every few steps (Which i mean kind of makes sense you can still limp forward or crawl even if your legs busted) The issue here is not so much the complexity of the system but that the system has a common lethal outcome for conditions that would generally not be considered lethal. Pain should still be painful of course, but do we really want pepper spray, a broken limb or just already healed injuries to give you a heart attack from just something like pain? If a certain thing is not lethal enough without pain heart attacks, it should be lethal in a different way rather than tie such a commonly used system to it. And finally, I must disagree that admin intervention is a good solution for gameplay systems like this, often times the situation has already involved others and become part of the story and to have essentially divine intervention occur breaks immersion (and so is usually not done). While in situations that have not been involved in the story, while it can be useful it is still a bothersome crutch to a system to need it manually operated by an admin.
  18. Yesterday we had a round where I misfired a PKA mining, and had my foot fractured while otherwise being overall a healthy, strong Unathi. Then proceeded to fall over repeatedly every few steps from this advanced stubbed toe, the pain spiking and eventually causing a heart attack and killing me. And then later in the round observing and seeing a pair of antags get into a scuffle from which they physically recovered quite well with little left in wounds, but then proceeded to have heart attacks from the pain despite being mostly otherwise fine and even while having painkillers in their system. So while this may be a wee bit of an ided, I do feel its a discussion worth having since it is quite silly how lethal pain is here. Getting heart attacks from pain especially from things like relatively minor wounds is neither particularly realistic, nor does it serve much of a purpose to the story or gameplay of the round instead mostly just taking character out of the game from otherwise nonlethal injuries. Which I can kind of see making sense for it being intended as punishment for things like repeatedly tasing or stunning someone recklessly, it comes up too much from regular wounds and makes the usage of less than lethal weapons in combat overly lethal. So what are your thoughts? Is it still worth having pain be lethal, rather than just a system of feedback and stuns/knockouts?
  19. WIth how slowly tension builds before any violence breaks out usually with the server culture here, it's usually pretty simple to quickly see the main weapon types antags are using since they are quite few and buy gear in advance rather than having an armory. So its not too difficult to judge the situations armor needs. And on the other hand, security already outmatch antags in nearly every engagement and emerge with little to no losses, so a buff to their armor is pretty much the inverse of what is needed to have climactic fights with tension and consequence.
