He's the guy that does stuff and then asks questions. In addition to all the other stuff mentioned above, I say we let this application simmer a bit to see if he is responsive to changes and suggestions before putting it back on the flame and approving/declining it.

No one wants a resprited human. The reason people play IPC is become they sacrifice a number of different things to be capable of doing other things. Games don't counter every single benefit that a particular class can play. It's the reason why Team Fortress II is so much fun. Different combos lead to great/terrible results depending on the circumstance. If you start going around limiting IPCs, you might as well continue the hunt for the rest of the races as well.

Aetherscald's Dionae Whitelist Application
I_speak_money replied to Aetherscald's topic in Whitelist Applications Archives
Roleplayed with David many times and I've had quite the fun with his character. Very good roleplay from his part and I am fully confident that he is more than capable of playing this Diona character of his. -

I agree that the responses are rather strict. Whether he did it for mapping issues or whatever reason he may have, I don't understand what the problem is. The situation is completely isolated. There's no one there, but himself. The round time is ending. His actions did not affect the round whatsoever.

BYOND Key: (This is your Byond login/Ckey) I_speak_money Total Ban Length: (The total time of your ban. You can also note your remaining time, though it is not required) 4320 minutes Banning staff member's Key: (This is the staff member's BYOND key/Ckey who placed the ban) Bluespace_Cat Reason of Ban: (You can see this when you attempt to log in to the server) As a hostage spent the entire time asking for cuffs to be remove to "fix" a bomb, as soon as uncuffed opening the valve suiciding to kill the antag. Ban applied for logging while talking to an admin and poor fear roleplay. Reason for Appeal: (State your reason for why you think you should be unbanned) Okay. I head out to the Outpost to collect a stun baton. I see the nuke op, and almost instinctively go to reach for my welder and click on the airlock. Unfortunately, it took me some time to realize that it wasn't a welder that I was welding the door with, but a crowbar. He comes by and e-mags the door and seizes me as a hostage. He mentions some ridiculousness about how this increases his chances of survival. He then proceeds to attack me a few times afterward, and when I asked to be uncuffed, he punches me a few more times for saying something stupid. He strips me of a PDA and a headset (note: telecommunications and PDA server were already down at this point | EXHIBIT A), and shows me this bomb that he has messed up. The details are hazy, but I remember him saying that he needed this thing to be fixed and be able to detonate with a signaller. I believe he also mentioned that he would release me if I had fixed the bomb. Not too sure on that last part, you might need to check the logs. Anyways, I go on to say that yes that I will fix the bomb for him. Note: at this point in time, I could actually fix the bomb for him. I had a ace signaller in my PDA, as well as another signaller in the bomb that was in my backpack at the time. He then proceeds to say some stupid shit about trust or whatnot, and how eager I was to do the task before him, et cetera. point 1 - This was a simple transaction. I'd fix the bomb and he would let me go. I was more than capable to fix this bomb. He would uncuff me, and I would setup the bomb according to the way he wanted it. He did not uncuff me. I don't know what the hell he was doing on his side of the client, but he went on to talk some shit, yada yada. As he was dragging me elsewhere, I potentially realized that he was dragging me to my doom. I mention that his crew were already well on their way to leaving him behind and that this endeavor of his will get him killed. No feedback. Whatsoever. I'm talking to a brick wall. The people who were ghosting can also confirm this. He takes me into the storage room and proceeds to strip me down. He finds a stun revolver, the bomb, and some force gloves. He throws my stuff outside the airlock and goes off somewhere. During this time, I try taking the cuffs off. He comes back and tells me to fix the bomb (note: I don't have any of my tools on me, anymore. He's tossed them outside). He queries if I was up to any antics as I would need a remote signaller to get the job done. I continue to tell him that I have one. He says he's already searched me, yada yada. He points his gun at me and tells me to show me with his hands. My cuffs were off at this point and I was just standing there. There was no notification indicating that I can walk. If I even moved an inch, he would empty a magazine into me. I warn him this several times and he says to show me with my hands as to where the signaller is. point 2 - At this point, I realize that this person is unaware of the situation. My suspicions had already arisen from our previous interaction, but it is at this point in time that I realize that he's beginning to piss me off. There were multiple signallers on that Outpost: 1) ace signaller (PDA) 2) On the other bomb I figure that this is just a way of my time talking to him. I pickup the cuffs off the floor and put them on. He seems rather satisfied with this outcome. He pulls me along, and somewhere in the middle, my internet cuts out. I press replay game to relog. This has happened several times the past few days and is nothing new. I also suspect this is the reason as to why I logged whilst talking to Bluespace. Note: he had already boinked me twice, and I replied to those boinks and there was no output from him in a while (multiple chat boxes later). I come back on and see myself buckled to the chair. At this point, I'm fed up with this nuisance. He continues to harangue me about how he doesn't know how to fix a fucking bomb. This is elementary knowledge. Anyone should know how to do this. Whether he's a visitor from another server or not, this is a simple task to accomplish. I tell him once again, that this is a simple transaction of life and repair. My life for the repair of this bomb. He finally gets it and proceeds to uncuff me. I see a bomb on the table in front of me. I ask him whether this is mine or whether this is his. He tells me why it matters, and I told him that I could salvage pieces from the bomb (read: remote signaller). He informs me that is in fact my bomb. point 3 - I just won the lottery. This is my bomb. It's not the best bomb, but it's pretty damn good. What has his character proven to my character at this point? He's unpredictable. He's violent. He has little to no knowledge of the toys he's playing with. And guess what, now he has two of them. His and mine. Both of which will lead to catastrophic results. He already made clear to me upon first bagging me as a hostage, that he is a rebel amongst his team: "They wanted to go in peacefully" "FUCK IT IM TAKING HOSTAGES" "This is increasing my chances at survival". So what do I do? What does the Iron Giant do when the missile comes back flying at the town? What does Batman do when the nuke is less than a minute away from detonation? What did Casey Jones do when he noticed there was a stalled freighter on the oncoming tracks? They sacrifice themselves for the betterment of everyone else. One life versus the lives of those still on the station. And that's what Rusty Houston did. He grabbed the bomb, moved two steps closer to the operative, and activated that fucking bomb. Poor fear roleplay? I did my best, but you can only do so much when talking to a brick wall. Fixing the bomb and then killing myself? It didn't have to escalate to that. If had released me the second upon he himself proposing that idea , I would've reached for my PDA, handed it to him, and checked the signaller on the bomb, and been on my merry way. As time went on, the evidence was stacked against him. It would be unethical, inconsolable, and simply unthinkable to let him walk away with two bombs. Hell, with his interaction between me, who's to say he wouldn't just cap me right there on the spot? Huh? The dude was paranoid as fuck. He was jumpy. He was irrational. And he was dangerous . Let me reiterate: "They wanted to go in peacefully" "FUCK IT IM TAKING HOSTAGES" "This is increasing my chances at survival".

Death is a joke in this game. Firefights, explosives, breached areas to space... no one gives a fuck. At all. It's just another little icon that pops up there screen and they have a X amount of time do something about it before it becomes serious. Cloning? There are so many games that are built upon the premise of not dying. Dying should suck, real bad. If it incapacitates you from the round for thirty minutes, then so be it. People are always talking about roleplaying fear.. roleplaying anxiety. No, those should be real. You should fear for the life of your character when you hear shells drop and bullets fly. Make it as inconvenient as possible. Dark Souls style. Make it a pain in the ass to die. +1 on the healthcare. Another thing while we're on the topic of healthcare, permanent damage. There's none of it, unless you're considering amputations, and even then, you can get those replaced. When you survive from a firefight, you should be fucked up. Physically. Mentally. You shouldn't be able to limp to Medical, be pumped with chemicals, and then strap your helmet on for round two. In my opinion, medical is waaaaay too easy. Way to easy for the doctors. Way to easy for the patients. See previous points. Injuries.. death.. maiming.. it should be a pain in the ass.

Dreamix's Head of Staff Application

Love all of his Roman-like characters as he is a good role player and adds his own unique twist when he comes to play. He has my a-okay. -
Everyone who is competent with BYOND code can take a crack at it to offload some of the burden this places on SoundScopes. Hell, I'll be taking to the books to see if I can write the code to implement this. What? No, the solution isn't more consoles. The solution is to remove then so that we don't need a lightweight version of the bridge. The lightweight version of the bridge should be a computer that with appropriate access levels or hacking should connect to the bridge's computer.

Peripherals ID module Necessary for logging into a computer Data Module Adds more data to the computer PDA Interface Module Allows the computer to interface with PDA attachments Restricted Wireless NIC A wireless NIC that is stuck to one frequency of operation Wired NIC If computers are all connected, this will give the computer an IP address to see and communicate with other computers in the network Wireless NIC Allows computer to interact with any other computer on any frequency Programs ByteSniff Packet sniffer. Allows you to sniff packets. ByteCraft Packet maker. Write your own packets. ByteWrite Word processor ByteConnect Direct connection to a computer. Any commands you run through your computer will be sent to another computer as if you were there PingPong Pings and records ping data The Explanation Consoles are pretty limited. You can do X amount of things on them and... that's it. Anything else, you'll need a new console which means. You'll need a whole new set of parts to build it, and then you'll need to find that pesky board somewhere for it. How goofy is that? Why do we need to go and waste time, resources, and energy to do all of that when you can easily have it all in one computer right where you need it. You no longer need to have a X by X workspace to have your secret lair consisting of Security console, Engineering console, X console for you to have oversight on the station. You can do it all in one. If your computer is damaged, you don't need to go egg hunting for a new one. Salvage some parts from the busted one, grab some new ones, and tada, you're good to go. Note: this revamp doesn't mean you get to be Bill Gates and change the schedule records so that you're the only boy in a classroom full of girls. If you want to start hacking into computers, it's going to take work. Real work. Port scanning. Packet capture, and duplication. MITM attacks. The works. You're not going to be able to connect to a computer, hack into the Captain's computer, and get all the access you need in 30 seconds. It's just not going to happen. Leave your thoughts, critiques, applause, whatever. As always, thanks for reading.

With the current console system, here's some issues you normally run into: Your console was destroyed? It's time to start anew. You'll need some parts to make the console, as can be referenced from the wiki, and you'll need the board necessary for the console. Security camera console? Security board. Shit is going down. You need to call Central Command for some reinforcements. You'll need to.. wait, you want me to walk through a war zone all the way to the Bridge, just so I can contact Central Command? Yep, that's what you have to do. Want to have a symbiotic connection with another department? Let's say, Cargo and Science. You could use the communications, but you would be super cool if you used those request consoles. No, it's not cool. It's clunky. It's goofy. If you manage to get the thing working, now, you'll have to assume that someone on the other end is actually noticing that blinking request console sprite, and then, they'll have to.. NO. NO. NO. Let's cut out all of this nonsense. Where's the WiFi? Where's the connections? Why does it have to be a pain in the ass to do something so simple? Well, we can make it simple. And easy. Simple and easy to use, as it was meant to be. Introducing.. the revamped computer system!

It's not broken in the absolute. It has faults which I addressed in the first post of this thread. Yes, every option does eventually get selected. Key word is eventually. Next time there's a gamemode vote, watch the vote. Click on X gamemode, and repeatedly click your choice over and over again. Do that a few times. You'll see all the phenomena that I described occur over and over again. If my changes were to be implemented, the voting system would be changed dramatically for the better. The vote would be about something a majority of us all agree upon. Rather than having to follow some internal compulsion for a social contract amongst peers, we can choose the gamemode of our heart's content and hope other players feel the same way. Instead of a eh-eh-eh situation, it should be a yes-yes-yes situation.
-
If the vote counts are removed, the general consensus is that people will play with the safe option and hit 'secret' or 'nuke' as those are the two most popular. Okay. What's the solution to that? Make it all secret. Vote counts get removed. Autovote ends. Gamemode selection: classified. You don't actually know what gamemode it is until you see something that gives it away in the round or until the end of the round. If people want a secret inside of a secret, we can change that gamemode name to 'random', as that is what it basically is in its most simplest form. Others have suggested that some people play certain characters during certain gamemodes. The solution to that? As I mentioned before, we can add another tag that gives people a scale to estimate what kind of gamemode it is: action-packed, mediocre action, and little to no action. So if all is said and done, Joe McHonk goes to vote. He particularly likes heist, so he votes for that one. Autovote ends. Gamemode is not listed/classified but is listed as action-packed. He decides he's going to go with Urist McRambo, security officer, for this gamemode because he likes fighting antags. Tada.
-
Let us not derail this thread into just thinking that it's all about the vote-hopping. There are other factors at play.
-
That would also be sufficient. Round types: AP (action-packed), LA (little-action), NA (no action).
-
The issue is not a matter of trust. The issue is the way our mind works. Like it or not, at one point in time during your life, you were exposed to the herd mentality. And during that exposure, you also acted in a way that you would not normally act whether you feel that way or not. It's just the way it works. Secret versus non secret is a whole other issue that needs to be addressed appropriately, but with the removal of the vote counts next to the gamemode, that is essentially allowing for a pseudo-secret gamemode vote. No one really knows what vote it is, until the autovote ends. In that case, we can still classify that information until the actual game starts.
-
The gamemode vote. We've all seen it hundreds of times. Maybe even more. It is essentially the decision that we all, as a community, agree upon so that we can have an enjoyable medium of role-play for the following hours. But there's a problem with it: us. We're humans, we're not perfect. We are usually under the effect of some sort of psychological phenomena documented in someone's PhD dissertation. But the most prominent one we're exposed to is the herd mentality. What is the herd mentality you ask? Officially, herd mentality is the phenomena that describes how people are influenced by their peers to adopt certain behaviors, follow trends, and/or purchase items. How does that apply to us? Let me explain. The time for a vote is called. Some people select X gamemode. Some people select Y gamemode. Some people even select Z gamemode. But something particularly special happens, two-three more people select the Y gamemode. Suddenly, all of the other people who voted for their minority-gamemodes start switching into the Y gamemode. And here comes the division, some other people dump their votes into the Z gamemode. The division arises. Red versus blue. Y versus Z. Now, it doesn't matter if you wanted to play Heist or Ninja, but it's between Y and Z. An overwhelming majority pump their votes into Y and Z and hope for the best. Did you see what just happened? Did you see it? It's easy to miss, but I'll make it more clear. Suddenly, all of the other people who voted for their minority-gamemodes start switching into the Y gamemode. I've seen it happen so many times that I think I'm going crazy just seeing it happen. It's like clockwork. Nine times out of ten, this happens in the gamemode vote. In the most extreme of cases, everyone's vote is initially spread out through all the gamemodes, in which case the vote is actually the vote. But the majority of the time, the phenomena that was just previously mentioned happens. So what's the solution to this? Hide the votes. Just hide them. The visual presence of the vote numbers is essentially affecting the way people vote for the gamemode. Time for the next problem. Vote is 11:11 for either the X gamemode or the Y gamemode. And then there's that one fucking person who thinks s/he is the king. 12:11. 11:12. Those fucking vote hoppers. They're taking advantage of the previous problem. Want another solution to chop him down from his/her tree? Lock in the vote. Yep, that's right. Just lock them in. You want to play Heist? Alright, you're locked in for heist. That's it. No more beating around the bush between X and Y, it's just Heist for you now. Final problem. OOC vote manipulation. Hell, I'm even guilty of this. Remember the @@ Nuke nuke @@ spam crap that I pumped in OOC. Any time I managed to use some sort of odd symbol : (%, &, $, #, @, !!) along with the gamemode of my choice, nine times out of ten, the vote went through in my favor. Thankfully, it only took me two times of my crap before Doomberg put a halt on it, which I appreciate. What's the solution? Crank up the autovote from 75 to say, 100, and mute the OOC all the way until vote end. You know the part where the server starts talking math? Yeah, no OOC in that time period. By doing this, we're eliminating any possible chance within this game client of any vote manipulation/influencing. No more "@@ nuke baby @@"s or "%% heist time now %%"s for anyone to with or without intentions to influence the vote. So what's the point of all these changes? Why am I suggesting them? Why did I go out of my way to type up this post for you all to see? I care about the votes. The votes matter. I want the vote to be as accurate as possible. I don't want to play X just because 3-4 people wanted to play and everyone followed pursuit. I want to play X because a majority of the server actually wanted to play this gamemode. Thanks for reading, and as always, feel free to leave your appreciations, criticisms, or silence. Some of you have reached out to me to mention the people who always vote X gamemode despite everyone else's vote. My response? This isn't a perfect world. There's always outliers in the graph. Always. If Joe McHonk wants to always vote nuke, that's within his ability to do so. But for the rest of us, this system of changes if carried out correctly will make the game much more enjoyable.

I concur with SenpaiShadow's opinion. Japak is an amazing role-player and it is always a pleasure stumbling upon Cessa ingame. I have the utmost confidence that Japak will be more than capable to play Diona. Not sure that my approval means anything, but I approve!

It just really doesn't make any sense that one of the Heads on the station, who are responsible in keeping their people in check, is anti-Nanotrasen. It would be like asking the neighbor that hates you so much to please watch your dog over the weekend. I don't know about you, but I would not trust that neighbor one bit to watch my dog. Now, instead of dogs, imagine having him watch the workhorse that is essentially the basis of the station: the scientists. Maybe you don't like your dog and want your neighbor to possibly do something to him/her. But the thing that makes you money? Not a chance.

It's right there on the tin. Add some more bluespace crystals to Telescience. I've gone full assault on R&D for the past few rounds trying as hard as possible and as fast as possible to get more bluespace crystals to put into Telescience. And what was the fruit of my labor for doing so? Nothing, actually. I've yet to actually make a single crystal from R&D. Xeno-bio tries its best, but ultimately, it's not there job to give me crystals. They're to experiment with different slimes and all the other cool things you can do with them. They aren't supposed to grind all the way to get some bluespace crystals as that is not fun for them (from what I understand), nor is it fun for me to wait on them. So basically, each round breaks down into two different scenarios: 1. There aren't any miners. You're shit out of luck unless you have a competent xeno-biologist who is willing to put up a grind for the unobtainium. 2. There are miners. With any luck, they're competent. If they aren't, you get the same result as scenario #1. Assuming they are competent, it will take them some time to procure the amount and type of resources that R&D needs. By the time the research levels are there or almost there, the round is pretty much over as someone is calling for the end of the shift. With the current amount of crystals limiting the power to 20, you can go some places. Xeno-bio.. the hallway outside research.. space.. and the outskirts of Medical. That's all fun and dandy, but those places get old real quick. "Hey Bill. Want to teleport down to Engineering and see what the boys out there are up to?" "I'd love to, Frank. But the problem is there aren't any fucking crystals anywhere ". Why not allow Telescience to reach farther places? Like Engineering? Or Cargo? You'll probably say that it's to prevent gank or grief or whatnot. For that rebuttal, I'll say to you that you don't have any confidence in our admin/mod team. They do a damn good job at filtering out the weeds from the flowers, and they deserve applause and showers of praise for keeping our server clean. Shoutout to all of you stationed in the Night's Watch. So, please. For the love of the Science team, the R&D people, the xeno-bio people, and the poor telescientists, add more crystals to Telescience! Thank you for your time to read this and feel free to post your input, approval, or criticisms.
