And that's totally fine. If you're the one who's going around teaching all the new apprentices over the CE, you're making a better impact on the round anyway. As long as you're doing something to make people enjoy the game, that's fine by me. No >:c This is a terrible idea, and it's a fantastic way to drive away newcomers with potential. This idea is exactly how to go about killing a community. I think the veterans need to do their part in the community by learning how to teach people instead of leaning tired over their keyboard and mentally stabbing themselves, lamenting over 'the good old days.' A few certain people also need to learn to stop being so goddamn salty.

I disagree. It makes certain players in the community who hold them somewhat important in their own right because they have that amount of IC power to change the way the game is played for certain people however they see fit. Whitelistees are important. The important thing is that they do the right thing and trek on whether for better or worse instead of bitching and complaining about everything. These people can do so much to help people out to learn the game and the atmosphere, but it seems that nobody even cares.

Self-explanatory, as we have an influx of custom item applications that are just resprites of existing clothing items. Intents and purposes are for anybody, literally anyone from the captain to the lowly assistant to grab some nice clothing that they missed out on at round-start. As it is a vendor, you will need to purchase them for variable amounts. You're a bum if you can't afford clothing, son. Not going to consider emagged equipment YET, because I'd still rather not have people wearing combat gloves and swat shoes just because the greyshirt and the tater are buddies. Will look into it probably spitting clothing out onto the floor rampantly and/or lifting the price requirements for traitors to help out the station bums. Will edit what needs to be put into the clothing vendor as follows, then see if I can make a pull request once everybody's satisfied with what goes into the clothing vendor. Read as: I will literally code this. General conventions/additional no-nos: 1.) EXISTING IN-GAME ITEMS ONLY. 2.) No department-related clothing. Scientist labcoats are the ONLY exception, as it's a science station. 3.) No formal corporation uniforms. We do not want Chuckle McFuckstick walking around in a Duty Officer uniform. 4.) Nothing that gives armor or any special advantages. Labcoats are the exception. 5.) No Syndicate clothing. Tacticool excluded. 6.) If it isn't something a civilian would plausibly wear, then it's a no. 7.) If you're looking for a custom item, you're in the wrong place. 8.) No, custom items will not be found in here unless explicitly requested by their owner. 9.) Serious requests/posts only. If you're here to shitpost, turn 180 degrees and head to the complaint forums. Will edit as I go along. What needs to be done: Get approval from Scopes. Do that on the 9th when you aren't tired. Vendor baseline coding. Duh. Adding every single civilian clothing item to the dispenser list. Adding costs. NanoUI? Maybe later Will update. Feel free to remind me what clothing items need to be added.

Foreseeably, applying, removing and modifying fingerprint strings of specific users to every single affiliated airlock with a person's job as they drop in or out sounds quite complex and difficult to realize. I still don't like this idea because I think it could be more trouble and annoyance than it's worth, sorry. I think the system we have at the moment is perfect. People do need to realize their ID is extremely valuable and that losing it will severely cripple their access to certain areas. Likewise, one person's loss is another's gain, and an antagonist can gain a lot from stealing an ID. Plus I also think 'stealing' someone's fingerprints sounds just as much as trouble and a gigantic hassle just to open the bridge. Most people are still going to be defiant shits with a gun to their head. A traitor shouldn't have to be reduced to an emag to open it.

Consider this, if it 'creates an influx of nasty nasty ERPers :c', then you report every single one of them and the problem with degeneracy is solved. And then you take pride in doing your part to remove crap. But if said people you're complaining about aren't actually doing anything wrong and you're screaming about space lesbians... Well, guess who is really compensating? Once again, derailing. So, socks? Or no socks? Because I'm pretty sure most of the arguments against it are out of the way, if I may be so arrogant and bold.

Nah, overlays tend to work better. We don't really need immersion. Just socks. Also, TK, since I saw your post interrupt mine. A jester is taken to trial in front of their community's councilmen. Several wisemen and women show up to either condemn the jester for murder of a woman. The weapon in particular was one of the councilman's swords. He was caught in the act, sadly for him, and ratted out promptly. As the jester was brought before the lords and ladies of the court, and read the jester their rights and what they have done and their possible charges, they give the jester the right to speak up for themselves. The jester retorts, "Well, I wouldn't have killed her if I didn't have access to that sword lying about." The present jury begins to mumblefuck about themselves, considering what the jester had said was, in part, true. Does it justify what the fool did, however? Whose fault is it really? The sword or the swordsman?

Here's an idea. Use the complaint boards so that this passive-aggressive shit doesn't fester within people. If you have a legitimate problem, complain about it. Seriously, nobody's gonna think you of you less for it, and if somebody does, they have bigger problems on their plate than 2d spacemans. I mean, it's honestly kinda shocking you guys have FIVE different subforums for complaining about shit and nothing dedicated to being positive around here. You guys need to cheer the fuck up.

Iiiii'm honestly lost on how you guys want to do this. I'm aware of the premise (fingerprints, etc etc to open airlocks instead of just ID cards), but this already sounds overtly complex given that fingerprint strings are randomized each round. Furthermore, personnel are required to wear identification for, just that. Identification. So that you can holler at someone down the hall and say, "Hey, can I see your ID? Oh, hi Bob, didn't see it was you" rather than make the RP assumption that you know who the person is based on looking at how bald their head is. Edit: Okay, one thing comes to mind that are implemented into actual DNA-access security systems, but it's an overtly complex system that would be a waste of time to code. CPRNG. Ain't nobody got time for ciphers, though.

Breath deeply. Step by step. I'm going to respond both to you and Zidanyia to save text and effort. Hmm. 90% of RP is done through talking. Communication in its most basic level. More communication, more RP. What does communication allow as well? Teamwork. It does wonders to help enable it. Simply by having the older officers reporting in on what they are doing, will both help organize teamwork and help the quiet newbies learn what they need to do. Teamwork, regardless if the player belongs to the latter or the former, is something generally considered fun. A most boring activity can become fun if done in pairs. So, it would be in the interest of the former group, if they chose to play security, to help enable it. This is really not a debate about paperwork, or shitsec, or anything else at that matter. The whole point of the OP was a plea that communication is kranked up. So, yes, Dreamix, start by doing what I just outlined, if you really want to fix sec, as I was mearly pointing out that no one has the patience. So, let's not bother. I see 'mediocre sec' more than I see badsec here at Aurora, but uh, on the 'plea for communication'. You really can't fault people for not communicating. In the heat of the situation, a lot of people are too engrossed in the 'now' of it to consider communicating. You're honestly setting forth an awkward expectation for officers to be very specific about their situation and location when they're already RPing with somebody else and dealing with conflict. It's something you need to train people to remember. They need to learn how to communicate when things are getting nuts rather than tackling the problem by themselves. Up to you lot as whitelistees to set an example and teach, aye?

Quick to change your mind, there, bud. or reference, I'm thinking these new players need to be taught how to play Security, something no one has any patience for, these days. There are two types of players here, as I've seen for myself. 1.) People who want to have fun by any means necessary. These people commonly play in civilian positions and engineering. 2.) People who want to realistically/practically roleplay, and make a chore out of their position. These people fall into security/command most of the time. Bokaza, I think you and a few others fall into the latter. It's not at all surprising that you want to stop the influx of badsec flooding into your department. Nobody wants shitters in their department, ever. The issue is, it's not always that badsec CAN help it, most of the time they're just rookies and they're attempting to learn for themselves how to be a space cop. They're just here to play, they're not necessarily into the whole complex, in-depth mechanics of the RedTape system. A lot of newsec are from party 1, for that matter. They're just around to have simple fun, and there's nothing wrong with that, imo. Bureaucracy is like this. Either you love it, or you hate it. Very rarely is there an inbetween, but it can be agreed that most of the time it's a required evil. Consider the following. Party 1 will generally have more 'success' in their pursuit of fun, no matter the outcome. They generally do not care about the state of the round as it progresses or is likely to progress towards. They're just in it to partake in the fun, to be a piece of the story. They don't care about 'how much' involvement, they just wanna be part of it in some way. Party 2 will likely constantly worry about the impact their decisions will make, and stress out over worst case scenarios in their head without recognizing the current situation. They will often tell other people to 'stop what they're doing', but not typically tell why out of impatience, a sense of urgency or just being outright irritated from previous events. These people typically have the most amount of foresight among the rest of the playerbase, and know that their actions and other people's actions will carry weight... But often, they do not know how much. And because they do not know this, they will likely panic in one way or another, making brash and uncalculated decisions. It seems like, in the end, Party 2 will have a much worse time than Party 1 would if they were both to make a mistake. Consider the motives (albeit, very carefully) of the other party that you're addressing. Remember why the player is playing the way they do, and remember why you're playing the way you do.

I see this all the time with research directors and new RnD folk. Almost every RD: "You're telling me you don't know how to make protopistols and borderline traitor weapons within five minutes? ITS SO EASY ALL YOU NEED TO DO IS USE A TOOLBOX, BREAK INTO THE TELECOM, GET THIS THIS THIS. You need to get good and get out of my face, I'm going to go be a pain in the ass for security and give every scientist a protopistol on code green for self defense :^) " "You're fired." the RD's a noob if they think they need to leave the science department to get traitor items. Joking aside, this is kinda why I don't teach people how to 'powergame' like that. You end up creating hostile and toxic mentalities just from spoonfeeding. It's awful how entitled people can get just by someone teaching them something that was really obvious in hindsight. I have never seen someone outright take another person out of the round for not knowing how to powergame, whoever is either 1.) making up this shit or 2.) actually perpetuating this stereotype by being a fuckboi themselves, needs to go get bent. But no, really. When it comes to new players, the best way for them to enjoy the game is to respect the Prime Directive of Vidya. Starelitists are completely forbidden from interfering with the internal development of foreign newbs and noobs alike. They are better off enjoying the feeling of getting to discover something all by themselves.

All due respect: Ew, no. The changes they're suggesting are not particularly inspired nor are they interesting (outside of axing the RNG word system, but even then there are better ways to do it imo). All that 'rewrite' does is redistribute power where it was sorely needed to begin with.

This is honestly a great idea, and it shouldn't be too difficult to code in the 'crusader' item replacers idea. Gives crew members an excuse to fight back against the cult if it ever gets too insane.

Scopes and I were planning on making the grenade case so that it can't spawn in if the player is a round start antagonist such as Changeling, Nuke, starting cultist/traitor. If they become an antag at some point throughout the round, then there's barely an advantage in starting with it because the player would have no rhyme or reason to consider using them for antag things until they become an antag. If we find out that they were gearing up the custom grenades in case they become an antag, then that's metagaming, and he loses his custom item. Any other concerns? Besides it being an unnecessary hassle to code in and still betraying of the custom item guidelines? Awkward precedent you're going back on here.

Take this from an antagonist perspective. Oh, look, this specific person gets free, instantaneous access to make a lot of dangerous grenades, just because they applied for it on the forums. They arguably have much more power over the round than any other chemist who has to actually run over to R&D, sign a multitude of fluffy forms in order to get one large grenade casing to antag with. The latter has to face the risk of being denied that, and will not be able to toss grenades with reckless abandon like the person applying for this custom item would. Does this seem unfair to you, or what? Anything that gives a player immeasurable, varying levels of power without having to work for it in a round is not fair, to me. It disrupts the natural game (im)balance in favor of catering to someone who wants a unique item. If you legitimately accept this, you're going to have to cope with a lot of people applying for idle items meant to perpetuate a fucking power fantasy, laughing like madmen as they ignore obstacles commonly encountered with normal gameplay. Anything that 'let's you skip a step or two' is not okay under any flag or banner of development. It defeats the nature of job difficulty. Next, someone is going to ask for a case of clean SE injectors to bring to work.

I am interested in what you have to pitch on that front. However, I advise sticking to the principle of K.I.S.S.: Keep It Simple, Stupid. The way I see it, there's little need to add fluff organs, the function of which only becomes apparent whenever they're damaged or removed. My personal suggestion is to add to the existing brain and heart (whatever the fuck it's called -- it's a heart) a bladder for storing the chemicals, eyes and maybe like a radiator unit? Update uno: It turns out, one reason why IPCs can't be flashed is their lack of an eye organ. So it looks like flash immunity wasn't even intentional, just a byproduct of something being overlooked. More to come. Update deux: Coming up with a neat name for IPC eyes is apparently difficult. Now taking suggestions. photoreceptors (eyes) central processor unit (heart? alternatively, possibly a motherboard?) radiators (regulating heat and such. battles with coolant intake to prevent the chassis from freezing over. likewise, coolant intake prevents the chassis from overloading.) coolant intake valves (for whenever an IPC decides they want to pump themselves full of liquid nitrogen for coolant to keep them, well, cool. doubles up as lungs as it has to do with body circulation.) more ideas when i'm not awfully tired.
