  1. go into STEM, receive profit I took macroeco as well.
  2. I've done tests for it already. Amusingly, you cannot inject more than 5 units at a time. 5-5 water/potassium ratio only does a minor knockdown to IPCs. With 50-50 by way of beakers, it just blows the fuck out of the beaker and does minor damage due to the brute modifier. So, IPCs cannot process massive explosions or be powergamed for massive damage, outside of a measley 3 second stun.
  3. by the three, why
  4. IPCs not taking damage in space for awhile has to do with their heat level, not so much their brute mod. Unless they're not in a hardsuit, if that is what you're mentioning. That part is... working as intended, at least in terms of their intended design with the brute modifier. What I doubt is intended is the heat level taking 25 seconds to spike up in a vacuum. I feel like IPCs would get worked up much faster than that with no coolant or exposure to nitrogen (or, at least, for the components of the chassis or w.e. to extract sufficient nitrogen from the air to use as sustained coolant, perhaps? that's a lore justification for mechanics, anyway). Might want to tweak either/both the rates of 'body' temperature spiking and their temp thresholds. /datum/species/machine name = "Machine" name_plural = "machines" icobase = 'icons/mob/human_races/r_machine.dmi' deform = 'icons/mob/human_races/r_machine.dmi' language = "Tradeband" unarmed_type = /datum/unarmed_attack/punch rarity_value = 2 eyes = "blank_eyes" brute_mod = 0.5 burn_mod = 1 warning_low_pressure = 50 hazard_low_pressure = 0 cold_level_1 = 50 cold_level_2 = -1 cold_level_3 = -1 heat_level_1 = 500 //gives them about 25 seconds in space before taking damage heat_level_2 = 1000 heat_level_3 = 2000 synth_temp_gain = 10 //this should cause IPCs to stabilize at ~80 C in a 20 C environment. flags = IS_WHITELISTED | NO_BREATHE | NO_SCAN | NO_BLOOD | NO_PAIN | IS_SYNTHETIC | NO_POISON Just for reference point for stuff ..Although, I gotta ask. What's the point of having a burn modifier referenced if it's default to 1 anyway? Might as well cut both out to save a couple lines, for machines, anyway. 'Organs', or rather, 'critical components' are easy enough to code in. Need sprites for vocabulators, central processors, control clusters, etc., though. Also, viro code is a headache. Replicating that SPECIFICALLY for IPCs is... bleh. In-game, I feel like these synthetic viruses you're asking for will not be worth the trouble for in-game stuff. No idea, just my thoughts there.
  5. > Consider options.
  6. The percentage value for activating a Power is almost completely irrelevant, because block injectors always give you the activated trait. That's oddly inconsistent to my own data that I've gathered. I've injected myself with a block injector containing hulk before. On the first try, it hulked me. After I cured myself of hulk, I tried again with the hulk block. No dice. Tried this 3 more times with no success.
  7. I don't think you can be a space carp. That's an interesting suggestion that can be done easily, though. Elsewise, coding in more holograms for AIs to choose is easy enough. The problem is getting decent sprites for it.
  8. They still are programs inside of a chassis. They are robots. You cannot change that with any layer of paint or false fur/scales/skin.
  9. I can already see that being abused to give certain people brig time. No pls. IPCs should not be considered to be anywhere near people.
  10. ugh this is snowflakey and makes no sense, I'm sorry To basically describe the thought pattern with my judgement, I'll explain myself. Computers are very diverse and often intangible things. Once they're written in a certain way, it's difficult to change how they react in certain situations. Most computers are very simple, however. When they are written in a manner to respond to certain things such as a key phrase or even something as simple as, "Hey, server, are you there? If so, respond in 4 letters in this sequence: BIRD." And so, the computer, according to their written code, will be compelled to respond with "BIRD". Basically what I just said is that the computer responded to someone, but only because they were programmed by another person to respond in that manner. The matter in which computers can respond to people can be a little more complex for the sake of security. You might want to look up "Heartbleed" for instance. Humans are arguably masters of forethought and introspection in comparison to a merely close-to-sentient computer, humans WILL react to almost every single situation thrown at them. Computers are programmed to respond or react to specific situations, or have a fallback plan if they don't know how to react to it. Also known as a failsafe to avoid the computer from being stuck in a logical loop or crashing when it is needed the most. Some computers are complex enough in sci-fi to react to situations in more ways than just one. What I have a little bit of trouble believing is that a walking, talking intelligence has enough processing power to not only react to a multitude of different situations at one time... but to also write its own code. I don't think I can stress enough how unbelievable that feature is for any sort of machine, ever. A toaster will never be given the function to do more than toast things. A PC will do nothing but process programs and software for its users. An AI will never be programmed to do more than fulfill requests of its masters to the letter. But why? You might ask. Well, do you ever think God lives up in heaven, in fear of his own creations? That's how humanity feels what would happen if we gave toasters self-awareness and sentience. It would not bode well. Likewise, for this setting. What fuckin' idiot would think it to be a good idea to give a robot all these freedoms, mass-produce them and then unleash them onto the general populace?
  11. Because they are manufactured servants. It is an absolute miracle that in 2400~ or so that they are given 'freedom' of any particular station-bound lawset, more so that they get paid to fulfill their primary function. I'm willing to suspend my disbelief a little just for the above description. But when it comes down to it, they are merely droids. They are designed and programmed to fulfill a specific function so that another human doesn't have to do it instead. Could you imagine how pissed off someone would be at their workplace if they show up and suddenly a droid sysadmin is ordering everybody around? Humans most of all absolutely despise being marginalized. Screw your catbeasts and your lizards for a second and think for a moment. Remember that the human race is dominant for a multitude of good reasons. I mean, hell, I'm the kind of person that engaged in Star Wars tabletop games. I played a lot of different types of droids. I really enjoyed all of them, and they all felt very iconic and identifiable in their own way. But I think that the general thematic in any sci-fi or sci-fantasy game is that the synthetics are generally servants to their masters. They fulfill one or a few functions, and nothing more, for their programming is still limited in this day and age in comparison to some warmind AI that can call down orbital death whenever it wants to, and summon robot murderbot legions to do its bidding. So, just to conclude my view on the whole "IPCs in command" thing. I don't think it should be a thing. At all. Because there is no reason why IPCs should act as entitled as humans do in any position of authority. The difference is this: It is believable that humans would act as they would. Imperfect, flawed, generally composed of assholes. Prideful. And so on. A robot would not act like that. They are creatures of logic and reason. They are constantly calculating probabilities and the math of smaller day-to-day tasks. They do not show emotion, and it is a giant stretch when they are told to emulate it, because a robot telling itself to 'fake' emotion is not something that can be done unless performed under very specific circumstances. IPCs and robot players. I ask you to do this. Just roleplay in a matter that makes it make sense. Be the tin can you were born to roleplay.
  12. I think it's a matter of: Would it add anything to bideo gaims? Would said bideo gaims be more, or less fun, with another mega-IPC feature?
  13. Do IPCs really need this?
  14. Hulk block has a 5% (!!) chance of manifesting upon injection. Also, a disability and a minor/major power can share the same block. You will probably get the side effect that shatters your limbs before you get hulk, tbh. The people who HAVE gotten hulk got very very lucky.
  15. Haha, well. I was a changeling earlier today with some neat genetic powers. With my own x-ray vision and illicitly procured sec officer ID, I see one of my own fellow changelings locked up in prison. I had figured that walking in, opening the door and saying, "hey, you're free" would be a sufficient enough tell that I was another changeling willing to help. Well, um, no, my head got lopped off in two successive arm blade strikes. Wordlessly. Was it fair? Not really. After that, the cell door was bolted and shocked by the AI (I don't understand the latter, considering the guy was in an isolation cell with no way to get out). The other changeling constantly butted up against the shocked airlock and was stared at by the entire security team like they were a circus freakshow. As far as I know, they were defended by staff as though they were 'creating additional roleplay' by rolling around in a 3x2 cell and taunting the security team behind a boltshocked airlock. Zzz. Quite frankly, I moaned. A lot. Because as another antagonist, I had a lot planned out only to be smited by another antagonist who planned poorly, murdered indiscretely and was definitely desiring to murderbone. Guess you can't win everybody, because that's how it is. Varying people will have their own opinions regardless of what precedents are set. One day, mass murder is going to be fine. In another, it's totes not ok pls ban them to oblivion. I have absolutely no idea what else to say on the matter besides that it's inconveniently inconsistent and it really shouldn't be that way. I feel like 'the rules' are just whatever the admin thinks they are at the time, in which case they're mere guidelines.
  16. I've made my case already why paperwork is a necessity, and I've made my case on how to have a decent conversation like a functional adult without having to shamelessly bring up sexual topics in a fallacious attempt to justify their own end of the argument. By being edgy. I imagine other people have made their cases as well, and it seems the overwhelming majority prefer most of the science departments be subjected to bureaucracy. Anyway, unless anybody else has something to add that's moderately interesting, I won't be poking any more holes in his argument.
  17. hERP dERP paperwork is oppressive and not normal, giant waste of time, completely meaningless oh gosh please stop forcing me into your paper-trail sex fetish if you are not self aware enough to understand when sex is NOT ok to bring up in a conversation when you want to be taken seriously, and also not self-aware enough to not be able to understand your fallaciousness of your arguments, then maybe you should introduce yourself to a community like SRS. they'll LOVE your allegories to how you got paper-raped today. But seriously, really? Comparing being 'forced' to do paperwork at your imaginary workplace is comparable to being imaginary 'forced' into a 'fetish', which can actually be defined as rape? You're marginalizing how actually bad rape is, I hope you know that?
  18. I am so sorry for the ad hominem right now, but you're such a joke to even discuss this with. Can you say 'back-pedal', 3 times fast?
  19. Ckey/BYOND Username: Zidanyia Position Being Applied For (coder, mapper, spriter): Coder Past Experiences/Knowledge: Offered advisement on code stuff across /tg/code and Baycode bases. Medium-level competency with object paths, iconstates, projectile code, interface building. Extreme aversion to databases, plsnoputmeonsqlprojects. I can basically offer nothing but a promise to do work for whatever needs done, considering all of my original ideas died out one year ago when I took my first hiatus from spacemans. I worked for maybe 3 months as a unofficial coder, I just offered my services as a rookie, then I took a year+ long hiatus. I'm still pretty rusty but I'm willing to relearn stuff again. I know how to use and read github and DM. Examples of Past Work: Literally nothing I can prove, given that I had forgotten what my old gitaccount was called from one year ago :l I did, however, help fix the problem with the cargo shuttle controller sending the shuttle twice and eating itself as a result. Suggested a fix for the actual coder to make checks for the location of the shuttle turf. Preferred Mode of Communication (Skype, Steam, etc.): I'm kinda averted to sharing my skype. I also don't have a steam. Forum PM me to work out the kinks, possibly? Additional Comments: As I said, I don't have much to offer in terms of new ideas and such. I'm willing to work and clear up the backlog, though! Fun.
  20. Tishina, not Tenenza. I personally don't understand why mass murder ISN'T okay to begin with. The round revolves around the antagonist doing things, does it not? Why do we need to police and fearmonger antags from not killing a lot of snowflakes when clearly the entire intention of an antagonist is to create conflict? I'm not saying cultists should go around ripping the jaws off of people wordlessly, but they should certainly be permitted to do everything they need to do in order to complete their nonexistant objectives, as I've seen. I mean, heck, I think a huge part of why people hate being an antagonist sometimes is that they have nothing to work towards. Antags on other servers resort to mass murder either if 1.) they have a stupid objective like stealing IDs, so they bwoink admins ahead of time that their objective is shit and they're just gonna do whatever, or 2.) they've completed all of their rather easy objectives that they aren't going to get in trouble for, so they decide on making the round more interesting instead. I have no idea why antagonists need to be so adverse to killing people. They are not normal average workers, for one. They need to be willing to do anything and everything in order to complete their objective, right? Within reason so that it makes sense and that it's interesting.
  21. nope, you made a terrible analogy. I don't really see why ERP-rape has to be involved with discussing paperwork. Oh, it doesn't *have* to be. I simply found it hilarious to do so. I was making the joke that paperwork is a fetish that you're pushing on someone. Smart people got it. yeah ok rape jokes are TOTALLY traded amongst civil intelligent beings I seriously think you might have a problem here, but the point remains is that paperwork is of greater benefit to people than it is a curse. The reasoning behind you having a problem with it is honestly not going to sway anyone else into your line of thinking, especially since you compared paperwork to literally ERP/rape.
  22. You know there is an edit button, right? You don't need to post three times to respond to me. Heavy roleplay means to act realistically, sure. But is it realistic to tell your boss to say that it's none of his business and sound all indignant when told you can't speak Cat-spanic when he clearly intends for everyone to speak the same language so that nobody gets upset over it? You're not forced to do anything, you accept the consequences of what you play. Whether it be a catbeast, a walking tree or a buttbot. You accept your role in the setting, not anything more or less. I mean I kinda find it hard to believe you were forced into clawing people who upset your character. Most mild people I know just walk the fuck away and not get involved :/
  23. paperwork is actually there to create accountability and stop the backlog of 'he said she said my boss said' nonsense that comes with red tape. either shit gets signed to PROVE that it was overseen and APPROVED by the boss or you can forget about potentially blowing the station up and getting away with it because science. Anyway, what that Bokaza guy said. Agree with a lot of his points there. Bottom line, if you're not an antagonist, you have no business fucking around with powers and pretending your station is your personal playground. You are a fucking researcher, not a false god of the Tribunal. There is no Heart of Lorkhan, there is no divine part of you just by getting TK for yoself. You are all mortals here, and your entitlement only stretches as far as what you can offer for the rest of the station. god if only there was a space law charge that would allow us to lynch geneticists again
  24. heaven forbid you consistently act like a terrible being in-game and get a reaction out of people and other characters for acting terrible. nah but you probably shouldn't take it so seriously, considering that it's a game and all. Wouldn't a logical solution for your character be, for instance, to not give a fuck and go back to doing their work? Caveat one, it's a game. Caveat two, you're not really roleplaying a functional sapient creature by taking offense to everything and getting all mad about 2d spacemans insulting your character :/ still that spacevoidagent guy tho lmao "Ron is one of the most soft-spoken, peaceful and non-violent people I know, he's only beat the fucking shit out of people twice. He's a really cool dude, tho." Yeah, no, that doesn't fly, and it doesn't say much when most other Tajaran characters have a nasty reputation of repeatedly assaulting others.
  25. Isn't that the guy who made a shitpost in the Cats in Command thread? It was funny, granted, but it goes to show how much you shouldn't take certain people seriously. Either way, it looks like the boss indeed actually told the Tajaran personnel to stop speaking Siik'Maas over science communications at least twice very nicely. [22:36:30]SAY: Safiya Isra/XXTheFurryXx : what she say is none of his bussiness And that's all I need to point out. Right, toodles, I'll stop poking my nose in!
